Fukushima Seawater Radiation Rises To New All Time High
The mainstream media may have long forgotten about the Fukushima tragedy (as it certainly goes against the far more popular and palatable meme of a Japan "recovery" courtesy of Abenomics) but that does not mean it is fixed or even contained. Quite the contrary. As a rare update from Japan's Jiji news agency reminds us, on Friday radiation at five monitoring points in waters adjacent to the crippled Fukushima No. 1 power station spiked to all-time highs according to the semi-nationalized TEPCO.
The measurements follow similar highs detected in groundwater at the plant.
Why the surge in radioactivity? Officials of Tepco, as the utility is known, said "the cause of the seawater spike is unknown." This is the same Tepco which for years lied that there is nothing to worry about in Fukushima, which arbitrarily hiked the maximum radiation exposure threshold as it saw fit, and which with the blessing of the government, has given the "all clear" to return to the crippled town. So, for anyone who doesn't believe the official Tepco party line that the cause is unknown, you are not alone.
From Japan Times:
At one sampling point in the port, between the water intakes for the No. 2 and No. 3 reactors, 1,900 becquerels per liter of tritium was detected Monday, up from a previous high of 1,400 becquerels measured on April 14, Tepco said.
Nearby, also within the port, tritium levels were found to have spiked to 1,400 becquerels, from a previous high of 1,200 becquerels.
And at a point between the water intakes for the No. 1 and No. 2 reactors, seawater sampled Thursday was found to contain 840 becquerels of strontium-90, which causes bone cancer, and other beta ray-emitting isotopes, up from a previous record of 540 becquerels.
At two monitoring sites outside the port, seawater was found Monday to contain 8.7 becquerels and 4.3 becquerels of tritium. The second site was about 3 km away.
The story here is well known for those whose judgment hasn't been clouded by bias - Japan, which is suddenly starved for electricity and which has to import record amounts of LNG to substitute for nuclear power, in the process sending its balance of trade to record lows, as imports soar and exports do not, will use unprecedented amounts of electricity to keep the radioactive fallout contained behind a wall of ice. An oddly perverted circular reference if there ever was one.
Tepco is struggling to reduce contamination at the poorly protected plant, which was damaged by the March 2011 earthquake and tsunami. Measures include plans to build a gigantic underground ice wall around the plant to keep the daily flow of groundwater from entering the cracked reactor buildings and mingling with the highly radioactive cooling water in their basements.
The ice wall project is expected to cost ¥31.9 billion and will put a massive burden on the power grid when completed: It will need about 45.5 million kilowatt-hours of electricity to operate, equal to annual power consumption of 13,000 average households.
The project involves freezing the soil into barricades 30 meters deep and 2 meters thick for a distance of 1,500 meters around the buildings housing reactors 1 through 4. The soil will be frozen by sinking pipes into the ground and running liquids through them at a temperature of minus 30 degrees.
On Friday, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and contractor Kajima Corp. demonstrated a miniature ice wall to reporters at the site.“
We can confirm the frozen soil’s effect in blocking water,” a ministry official said afterwards.
The department aims to begin construction next month. But the Nuclear Regulation Authority has not approved the plan, saying its backers have so far provided insufficient reassurances about public safety. International nuclear experts have also expressed concern about the effectiveness of the plan.
Considering the surge in radioactivity in the port water, we, on the other hand, can confirm the frozen soil is having no effect in blocking water. But considering the mainstream media is about 3 years behind the curve when it comes to Fukushima, one will first need to catch blinky somewhere in the middle of the Pacific Ocean before the very serious people admit this most simple observation.

But the US ambassador just visited the reactor and said everything is ok! Whats that? MRS Kennedy has systemic lymphoma? Oh shit!

New all time high radiation levels. Let's buy it.
Well, Godzilla has to be born somehow! America ain't gonna destroy itself... err, wait!
Congressilla!
Seeing as Fukushima is pouring out tonnes of contaminated water every day - and will do for the foreseeable future - increasing marine radiation readings seem entirely predictable.
"... the cause of the seawater spike is unknown."
When I was about six or seven years old, my grandmother caught me stealing candy. I think my reply (wide-eyed innocence) was something like "the cause of the candy being there is unknown."
As a child, I thought she bought it, but as an adult, I know she just allowed me to save face.
The Bible imparts useful advice on what we, as a society, need to do; namely, put adults in charge:
When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.
The bible is one such childish thing.
"... new all time highs ...."
That's good, right? Bullish?
I guess it's like the house prices, and stawks ... it never drops.
Is it time to dive all in and Buy The All Time Irradiated High?
Yes, it's a generational opportunity, get all the toxic assets you can, before you are priced out forever.
I love High....feels so Comfortably Numb.......

Buy Tepco, they are gonna shoot up bigtime when they collect on their intellectual property rights as we glow in the dark.

Man I sure hope this 'frozen wall' keeps out the White Walkers - they seem pretty nasty.
Antarean glow water anyone?
There is a horrible curse on that family. Probably well deserved, but still.
Please walk on through, nothing to be seen here. Domo arigato.
"Please walk on through, nothing to be seen here. Domo arigato."
Yeah, we should be thankful to Fukusima Abe for all he has done for us. What a great guy to have in your corner. Brings tears to my eyes when the POTUS volunteered US servicemen and women to die for Fukushima Abe.
"LET THEM EAT GLOWING CAKES!"
If Tsukagi Burns had never hired Homero, this problem would never have happened.
I'll have the spicy glow in the dark tuna rolls please.
Should be a boon to the fishing industry, what's left of the tuna will soon be floating to the surface.
"what's left of the tuna will soon be floating to the surface."
Thats quite alright. They still have dolphin.
Dolphin sushi, anyone ? The POTUS would probably have enjoyed that as well.
I'll have the spicy glow in the dark escolar rolls please. Fixed it for you.
I understand glow in the dark bloody diarrhea after a delicious meal is one of the best ways to die.
"Do not worry."
Unfortunately, Stoicism doesn't make radiation go away.

I thought the original plan was to remove the rods which was no small feat in and of itself. I believe some were bent and the supporting structures damaged.
So, how long do they theoretically have to freeze the soil; ten thousand years? Is there a second part to the plan?
You know, I haven't heard a thing on the nuclear rod disposal process. I just did a search and could find nothing. Anyone have an update?
.
Ssssssshhhhh! You're not supposed to remember that.
Good news, everyone. Porapaganduro Bonarinyu Asahoru University is conducting preliminary studies on a permanent solution* to the Fukushima unfortunate incident. Very soon now we can put all concerns behind us and prosper.
*Advanced research has suggested that, theoretically, the radiation can be wished away.
Actually, I don't think it's all that difficult. One just needs to walk around Europe and pick 'em up off the ground.
If you believe the lies/.gov truth, and believe the actual photos/photoshopped propaganda, the rods are just about completely removed/burned up long ago and there's really nothing left.
Every once in awhile something about it gets posted at Enenews.com. The bigger issue is that they're running out of workers, as the site becomes too radioactive and the existing homeless/qualified employees are dropping like flies. Once they abandon Dai'ichi - and they will have to soon - then it'll all burn and take out Daini with it (the other 'great unknown' just down the street).
Within a few years we'll have almost a dozen NPP's fully uncontained and burning out of control for billions of years - straight upwind of the North American continent.
Imagine an invisible fog surrounding your home. Every day that invisible fog gets thicker and thicker. Someday, even though you can't see it, it will get so thick you can't breathe, and you and everyone around you suffocates. That's Fukushima radiation.
Enjoy what time you have left. None of this is ever going to get better, other than our state of mind if we work on it. We may all die of radiogenic leukopenia, but I hope we die with a clear conscience. If not, get started on cleaning your shit up.
OK, NTI, I get all that, but what is the downside?
"Within a few years we'll have almost a dozen NPP's fully uncontained and burning out of control for billions of years - straight upwind of the North American continent."
One could possibly believe that this whole scenario wasn't an accident. Count me in that category.
...and burning out of control for billions of years...
sigh.
"One could possibly believe that this whole scenario wasn't an accident. Count me in that category."
I'll throw MERS in there, too.
" That's Fukushima radiation."
You're gonna make a lot of people nervous !
Have you forgotten Japan is our ally ?
The POTUS has already volunteered us to sacrifice ourselves for them. Of course, if they do rub us all out then they will have to die for themselves./sarc
Fuel rod removal: Fukushima’s most dangerous operation yields first successes (21-Nov-2013)
Video of Fuel Extraction from Pool 4 (28-Nov-2013)
I wish there was some way to sideline the vapid, YouTube-uploading boobs who persist in taking scant bits of information, ripping them out of context, and weaving them into wildly hyperbolic radiological collapse porn with a focus on everything and anything that might, possibly, conceivably, at some point make things the slightest bit more hellish than they are already. To my mind, it's even less helpful and more irresponsible than the most deceitful, deranged "Global Warming" catastrophism.
Dangerous Phase: Fukushima's radioactive fuel rods to move to safe storage (RT, 26-Mar-2014)
Based on the March story, they still haven't removed the rods or , al least, they haven't removed all of them. Thanks for the source update.
Well the only thing that can save us now is another global ice age.
Oh, wait...
Well, at the moment the Japanese govt. is working on a plan to freeze the Pacific Ocean so the contamination won't reached the US./sarc

Bollixed,
I wish he could have stepped back for a moment...
Me too!! So sad...
I think that the human race has been murdered by TPTB and this poisioning of the oceans is just the ripple of a start to an explosion worldwide of cancers and radiation exposure related deaths.
The people of the world, who care about feeding their famalies and seeing their children grow up should arrest, disarm and execute all of the power elite each in their own counry. And start over with humanitarian concerns foremost. I know I'm dreaming and oversimplified....But a few good people in every country could make it happen, we hope, cause that's it....if they are not stopped....we are so fucked.....I think we're already fucked anyway!
Most definitely population control and why TBTF are living in their S American mountaintop compounds and remotely rigging markets same as it ever was.
No, their lungs - and their children's lungs (not that they care) - are full of aerosolized enriched uranium and plutonium, too. They can afford a more luxurious slide into a radioactive death, but they're no healthier than anyone else. There is no 'cure' for what we now have in our bodies - with more entering daily, at increasingly stronger levels.
Soon 'medical care' will only consist of lethal pain meds, until there is no one left to make them. It will start in the Northern Hemisphere, but rest assured the Southern Hemisphere is fully contaminated. The radiation circles the globe every 40 days. This planet is completely saturated.
Global planetary suicide by 'peaceful' nuke. The scientists who control the Doomsday Clock didnt' even see this coming.
Hey, doomster. Get yourself a Geiger counter and operate it. Getting lots of clicks? No?
Stop spreading bullshit. Yes, Fukushima is serious. Could it get even more serious - like REALLY serious - if they fuck up the rod removal? Yes. Is it killing us all as we speak, now? No.
So fuck off with your lies.
Doomster <-- Well put

Yes, I make this up as I go along.
Yes. CHERNOBYL baby images.
As for the lots-of-zeroes Bq of cesium-137, and the absolute 'certainty' if a single particle is ingested - what's the likelihood - as a US, Canadian or European person - of ingesting one of those single particles?
Rather higher than any of us want it to be. And I'm sure that Fukushima will lead to tens of thousands of premature deaths. But killing us all, now, as we pound our keyboards? No, plonker.
It will take place over decades, as the infant population either shrinks, or the children are too deformed to work and pay taxes.
This is a slow burn to Hell. In living, YouTube color, and we will be forced to watch.
At least the "greens" will be happy. After all, it fits their depopulation agenda, and more than anything else, it's "SUSTAINABLE."
You're right.
"Moreover, our results are consistent with the previous human results after the Chernobyl accident, in which infant mortality rate increased sharply in West Germany and in the United States."

Why frozen walls when slurry walls could make a permanent solution? Slurry walls are established practice and don't require continuous electrical input.
Well... ummmm, just between you and me, they're using frozen walls because "frozen" is orders of magnitude easier to pronounce than "slurry".
Was there a reason cement coffer damming would not work?
A giant wall of ice you say? So when the irradiated white walkers march on civilization, who will take the black to defend us?
Don't they need to keep this shit cold & wet to stop it bursting into flame and off-gassing even nastier, more motile shit?
Wahoo, let's build ice barricades on the ring of fire...I'd like to meet the rocket scientist that came up with this idea.
Say hello to Godzilla and the 3 headed monster while you're excavating for me.
man that was some tangy sushi
Fukushima seems to be tracking well with the stock market. Very bullish........
Funny how the corporate media has all the resources to inject more daily climate-propaganda into the buzz-saw, but can't keep up on a known and expanding ecological horror in Fukushima Prefecture.
$100MM for Godzilla.
$0.01 for cesium, iodine, strontium and tritium.
Now, this is one very big real issue Humanity is gonna have to face.
Hence the bullets and machine guns. It isn't just about $30 for a loaf of bread. It's about $30 for a loaf of bread that's radioactive, washed down with radioactive water full of fracking chemicals.
TNTARG face?? not--
You underestimate the power of denial.
Living (and perish) in denial is always a choice. It's what lots of people around the World chooses, Many types of denial. Does not work for me, though.
Radiation keep yang up
They should just build a cement wall if they are going to lay pipes like this to make an ice wall.
Evacuation of California = bullish

Fuel fragments from the exploded reactor (#3 I think) have been found in Eurpoe...that Plutonium enriched MOX fuel...with a half life abliout as long as our planet has been around....so they must be in N America as well, but we hear nothing. Seals, sea lions, fish are dying off the Pacific coast, and the scientists mention they aren't sure why, but maybe a new disease, or food issues or whatever, but never a mention that is's more likely fromthe posoning of the Pacific. See great coverage of the issues involved at http://enenews.com/. The commenters there are very knowledgeable too, but trolls are there as well.
A full biocollapse across the Northern Pacific and North American continent, within 3 years of initial Fukushima eruption. A concurrent explosion in Infant Mortality Rates, before we see the same in 'healthy' teens and adults. Millions of humans have died after 3/11 that are above the norm in 2/11. Rates that are only going to go up.
2/11....3/11....9/11...7/11, it's the phytoplankton that comcerns me. If that gets killed off, well then, sayonara to life on the planet.
Smok'em if ya got'em.
Yes, it's hard to breathe without oxygen.
The undeground ice wall may - may - keep radiation from travelling laterally but water has a way of finding a path around, over, under or through any obstacle. And the ice walls will not prevent radiation from traveling down, down, down and then, when deep enough, laterally. And finally, has anyone used Google Earth to look at those hundreds of tanks of irradiated water that the geniuses of Tepco have constructed on hilsides for miles around ground zero? Now imagine just a moderate little quake, and those millions of gallons creatng a reverse tsunami and finding a path to the sea - which of course they would, being on hillsides above a valley floor that leads directly to the ocean. Oh, and probably sweeping all those nasty fuel rods still in those ruined reactors into the sea along with the reverse tsunami.
7-11 looking for a new flavor for their slurpee.
Will an atomic brain freeze hurt worse?
So the core is melted and hot, they put water into it to keep it from melting down. This water is warmer and radioactive when it leaks into the sea. The sea is salt water, salt water and the soil it is in needs to freeze at below 32F say 24 F. The warm water will re melt the ice soil and we have to start again.
My tuppence worth, if the geeks have invented pocket protectors to protect their shirts from pen leaks, I am sure we can invent a Fukishima size pocket protector to stop this leak. Patent pending ........ I claim it first.
Again the geeks save the world
The ice wall is uphill from the reactor cores, so the hot water should not exist. The ice wall will, in theory, keep the ground water from flowing into the reactor complex, so that should reduce or eliminate the water flowing into the ocean.
On the other hand, all the steam and what not is happening with all the ground water flowing through and cooling it; once they get the ice wall up, that may cause the temperatures to rise in the complex.
Yawn. Fukushima happened 3 years ago. Sure, it's a problem but it's not a threat to life in the northern hemisphere or on earth as a whole.
Actually I believe the radiation in both cesium 137 and strontium 90 increase during the 1000 day to 5000 day window. Its only going to get better.
"Long-lived radionuclides such as Cesium-137 are something new to us as a species. They did not exist on Earth in any appreciable quantities during the entire evolution of complex life. Although they are invisible to our senses they are millions of times more poisonous than most of the common poisons we are familiar with. They cause cancer, leukemia, genetic mutations, birth defects, malformations, and abortions at concentrations almost below human recognition and comprehension. They are lethal at the atomic or molecular level.
They emit radiation, invisible forms of matter and energy that we might compare to fire, because radiation burns and destroys human tissue. But unlike the fire of fossil fuels, the nuclear fire that issues forth from radioactive elements cannot be extinguished. It is not a fire that can be scattered or suffocated because it burns at the atomic level—it comes from the disintegration of single atoms."

Sniffing your own farts again...
...until the whole reactor collapse into the weakened ground.
The thingt about threat to life on earth is that you should be alarmed before it happen. Not after.
Is this the possible problem with the cost increase with the price of shrimp and the disease that has caused that increase?
Unlikely, I think. The ocean currents should be carrying the waste towards North America, unless there are prevailing winds carrying stuff in the air that far off course. In the water, the radiation would have to go across the Pacific, down south along South America, then back along Antarctica, up the east of Australia to get to South-East Asia.
Somebody is running this show as stupidly as can be imagined. Ice does not slow down nuclear reactions. If you can't operate a nuclear plant how long can you run a refrigerated ice wall with no sides and no bottom? It is designed to leak out the sides, bottom and back. So what's the point? Then, they are "burning" the waste. IT DOESN'T BURN! They are only breaking it into smaller more ingestible particulates and propelling it into the air! The radiation is so powerful it kills robots! To leave this shitstorm as it is fulfills three agendas:
1.) Provide cover for other leaks
2.) Provide cover for US Military use of Plutonium tainted Radioactive Uranium 238 in its arsenals
3.) Advance the neo-Malthusian depopulation agenda.
Now you know. What will you do about it?
Arnie Gundersen at Fairewinds has been an excellent source of info and analysis of the meltdowns. This is his report on new radioactive water leaks at Fukushima from three months ago! Apparently Tepco is just getting around to reporting it or perhaps there are even more new leaks.
Quite informative. Video is nine minutes long with good graphics and the usual solid Gundersen presentation.

Fortunately, thanks to modern media control, the threat of nuclear pollution has been eliminated.

Revelation 16
"So the first angel went and poured out his bowl on the earth; and it became a loathsome and malignant sore on the people who had the mark of the beast and who worshiped his image. 3The second angel poured out his bowl into the sea, and it became blood like that of a dead man; and every living thing in the sea died. 4Then the third angel poured out his bowl into the rivers and the springs of waters; and they became blood.…"
Well, if anyone was worried about a shortage of tritium, they can rest easy now, in case for example Japan might want to build some thermonuclear devices.
When life hands you some glowing lemons, make some self-heating lemonade!
Fuel for fusion reactors, since we have all these old fission reactors that need to be decommissioned and replaced, and we haven't found a solution to the waste, and the breeder reactors all turned out to not work properly. So, let's go to even bigger, higher powered nuclear reactors as a solution. Because going to a low energy future is a fate worse than endangering all life on earth.
In order to understand the power of media and governments working hand in hand to control the population's thoughts, you only need to look at Fukushima reality and look at Fukushima media coverage. Today, you would think Fukushima was in cold shut down and clean up was well under way. Minimal health hazards are now controlled and people are being encouraged to move back to their homes.
What media doesn't tell you is that the three melted cores are still not under control, and they don't even know where the cores are. The physical means to clean up the melted cores does not exist. The spent fuel pools are all damaged, and some are ticking time bombs. People can't get close to the real problem areas because they would die in minutes. All that is being done is a massive water pumping exercise to prevent spent fuel fires and to prevent the cores reaching critical mass. No clean up is being done, because the reactors can't be cleaned up, even robots would be fried if they tired to work on the reactor cores and surrounding materials. Debris that belong to the cores themselves have been found many miles from the reactors, small amounts of core material blown into the sky during the exposions. All that spent fuel needs to be moved and safely stored away from the damaged pools, this is being attmepted, but little to no coverage of what is happening reaches the public.
In short. three melted cores, no clean up. A number of spent fuel pools in damaged condition, some attempt to clean up, but all pools vulnerable to any further earthquakes or structural collapse. Untold millions of gallons on high radioactive water spilling into the seas non stop and more gallons flooding into the wate table, and this will follow the underground channels wherever they may lead. The future means that most every Japanese person will end up working at the site at one time or other, because they are radiating too many people, and most constantly find new workers. Right now they ar running through homeless, criminals and unemployed elderly folks.
Media can ignore this event, but the event carries on at it's own agenda. Credit Government and Media for their ability to silence reality, to cover it all up, and put a happy face on this.
GE...we bring good things to life!! And we own a lot of news stations!!

There is a silver lining though. Japanese fish exports will soon reach a record high, and this correlates nicely with the record sizes of the glow-in-the-dark fish. :-O
