I am, and I am fortunate enough that I will never, ever have to go to a VA hospital. I have heard so many horror stories of ineptitude squared at those fucking places, except for the one near Washington DC where the big wheels are treated.
And the attack on Phoenix, AZ is already happening, if you are concerned about your freedom - don't look now, but the first, second, and fourth amendment to the Constitution are already gone.

reply: Well, son, yes, I hear it's hard to get a date if you're uneducated and unemployed... though I suspect it's even harder to get one if you've got PTSD and are wandering the streets, homeless, like many of our veterans. On the other hand... some of the modern prosthetics are kinda cool.... I can hear you can pick up an egg now with some of the better replacement hands. That's doubly troubling. It's not as if there is any reason to go to college unless it's STEM.
And perhaps not even STEM. I know several undergrad engineers who were told they won't be considered for entry level positions unless they get a masters. STEM is probably a better choice than liberal arts for sure, but still subject to the supply and demand of labor.

As a veteran, I feel I can speak honestly about this. For every true wounded warrior there are 10 'disabled' vets that are mooching off the system. Just more pigs at the trough. This cartoon calls out congress for its profligacy, but there is a cultural rot that enables this country's slow implosion. No one talks about it.
Not sure if it is 10-1 but most people know at least one 'disabled vet' that can build an addition onto their house, construct a very nice deck, grow a well tended garden, go hunting and fishing - but cannot 'work'.
As a Vet myself I also see the same. I have also experienced a lot of criticism and resistance as a result as well. Some people are rather pissed off at the whole situation.
The side issue of cheaters though valid doesn't address the larger issue of NO JOBS in this evicerated carcass of a phoney economy.
Myself as a veteran, that many veterans I worked with were filing for disability, while not doing their current job and "working" other jobs. The fraud is rampant.

As a combat veteran (the Bell helicopter war), and a psychologist at a VA hospital, i can tell you first hand that you're right. Everyone feeds at the government teat (myself included, although my excuse is that I provide an essential service to my fellow veterans). When my wife, a realtor trying to get a listing, asked me to call the husband, I did it. He told me how to apply for a 'service connection' and brought me to a DAV office right inside of a local VA hospital, where, for the fee to join, I was told they'd help me complete an application for service connection. All I had to do was 'act depressed' for the psychiatrist, complain about PTSD, and I'd get a service connection. Then I could keep appealing to increase the amount I'd get every month.
America has become, not the land of the free, but the land of the racketeers. It's happening at every level of society. It's very sad.

What we really need is to put 110% into care for all disabled or wounded vets. They deserve that. What we can no longer afford is to provide (nearly free) healthcare for non-disabled vets, Native Americans, elderly, poor, illegal immigrants, etc, etc. Along with all the other government entitlement payments, the recipients will be the ones that get hurt the most when the currency and economic crash come.
The Army- Where you go to have medical experiments done on you by people who are not even doctors.

While petitioning the White House is futile in the extreme and completely pointless, do you seriously doubt that the US is a "State Sponsor of Terrorism"? A question for cartoon lovers:
A few years ago I saw a cartoon about the Fed and gold: showing Germany and other nations their gold. One after the other visitor, who checked if his gold was there, was brought into the room with the gold bars and the FED's personell was changing the plate with the country's name according who was about to enter the safe.
I believe I saw it on some PM-friendly blog. Does anyone know this cartoon?

Borrowing money from the people whose ass you're aiming or posturing to kick is just not sustainable. When the nation is broke, defaulted, isolated, war, at least internationally, reverts to a cash-only prospect.
So the isolated nation, its "leaders" thereof, will turn inward on itself, its citizenry. Figure a state-fielded army underwritten per head at a denarius a day.
But unlike such attempted bullshit at other times in history, there will be five million angry able-bodied men, fathers and sons, mercenaries of their own underwriting, with rifles, eagle eyes and a thousand rounds a weapon, lurking in distant shadows like old-time woods robbers in wait for the state hirelings, each muttering no one fucks with his wife and kids, his mom and brothers and sisters.
They will stand as the last stand. They represent a last hope of a nation or a world. Five million active "Continentals" (if you will) -- men, if defined as men only by their commitment -- would be enough to stir up the downtrodden and timid to a cause and an aim actually worth sacrificing for: the defense of their home and people; the repossession of their stolen inheritance.
To the Thief, I tell you now: Someday you will nod, and I will kill you, or my son will kill you, or his son... in remembrance, emulation and vindication of the Five Million still to come, the Five Million among us.
