GoPro Is Going Public: It Hopes You Don't Focus On The Following Chart
The clip-on camera company has filed for its IPO. GoPro, which will list on NASDAQ under the symbol GPRO, would, however, probably prefer you not focus too closely on its financials... sshh - EBIDTA -30% YoY for comparable quarter?
While everyone is crowing of the yearly growth... perhaps a glance at Revenues and EBITDA for Q1 2013 vs Q1 2014 will raise some eyebrows... (blamed on production problems - but not weather?)
As GoPro explains...this is not just a camera company...
GoPro is transforming the way consumers capture, manage, share and enjoy meaningful life experiences. We do this by enabling people to capture compelling, immersive photo and video content of themselves participating in their favorite activities. Our customers include some of the world’s most active and passionate people. The volume and quality of their shared GoPro content, coupled with their enthusiasm for our brand, are virally driving awareness and demand for our products.
To date, we have generated substantially all of our revenue from the sale of our cameras and accessories and we believe that the growing adoption of our capture devices and the engaging content they enable, position GoPro to become an exciting new media company.
Imagine the future...(two words - Eastman Kodak)

They are giving out bags of money on Wall Street. The GoPro guys might as well grab a few.
Easier than waiting 20 plus years actually earning the billion by selling stuff.
Before anyone invests in this thing, for the love of god please check with a pro camera crew as to the problems the GoPro has in industrial applications. Early adopters going back to high end stands + drone tech has replaced the "head-cam" on the bleeding edge.
Problems with GoPro you will not find in the prospectus:
1. On board memory and buffer has many of the same problesm that affected the early Nikon quickpic line around 2006.
2. Memory and resolution grid is capped due to proprietary sensors vs. Nikon & Canon: Since HD TV is all about clean 65 fps the product is limited right now to an expensive toy for low-margin sports.
3. Product is not supported by professionals due to unit weight/mass affecting performance: Unit is too cunky and has no following for wider margins sports such as NFL or Tennis where "first person" view would have upside potential. Formula 1 tried the product and it just can't keep up.
At best ? You are getting another Polaroid. Was Polaroid a great BUY ? sure, for the first 3 years of gogo returns. Do we all use insta-photo gel for our medical and personal lifesytles ? Nope.
On that note, this company would be a great bolt-on to Sony, after it falls down to a more reasonable multiple and is fit into the Zeiss platform. Kaz, ironically has the technology in the medical business unit to fix all of GoPro's problems, but GoPro refuses to deal, and hence, our current little IPO.
For my drone I bought the keychain-sized 1080p Mobius for $80. None of the GoPro memory buffer issues that will turn itself off for $400 when it's 1000' in the air. Mobius is hardly perfect but its true value is being an $80 HD camera that is slightly larger than a car key fob.
I wonder if idiots will bid up the price of GPOR after this news.
I want to make a youtube of me buying puts!
I'll send you my GoPro so you can film it in all its fish eye HD video glory.

But look at that guy on the skis - he's STOKED and hangin' loose.
I want to be STOKED, too.
I have no interest in watching people engaged in their favorite activities....unless it's porn < now I get it , strong buy ! >
Fisheye Porn.
That pig is gonna need a lot of lipstick to get anyone except a Muppet excited. Forget about deceleration, we are talking about DECLINING revenue, EBITDA, margins, and probably everything except fixed costs and marketing expenses, as they try to pump up sales and steal from future sales as much as possilbe before the Vampire Squid crams this pig right up some eager Muppet ass.
It's after reading articles like this I feel like I have stepped back in a time machine with the pets.com puppet.
I wanna see some NON-GAAP numbers!
does necties.com ring a bell?
I am so surpised that no one came up with a GoPro knockoff on Alibaba.com. Am I the only one?
I see this bullshit all the time, even on ZeroHedge.
The scale on the left side of the chart doesn't start at zero with the purpose of exagerrating a point.
They would make a mint if they marketed these as PoliceStateOnVideo cameras.
"Leave something behind for posterity, film the gun and badge thugs torturing and killing you--GoPro! And get the PoliceStateOnVideo.”
"Next time you see the gun and badge thugs beating someone to an unrecognizable pulp, you'll be ready with GoPro! Get the PoliceStateOnVideo.”
"Film the next false-flag bombing in real-time and hands-free with GoPro! And get the PoliceStateOnVideo.”
And with the NDX at 13 year highs, this doesn't look like it will have a happy ending.

Maybe the White House can bail them out.
All I want to know is if there are any stocks that trade with a similar symbol (just some guesses, GOPR, GOPRO, etc.). Good for a 10% bump when this one IPO's.
Eventually there willl be TV contracts and other exciting things.. GoPro has the potential, but right now, the sales numbers aren't that impressive
What better way to raise some working capital then to ask unkle Sam I mean Ben I mean aunt Yellen. For fuck sake!
Sorry but I am a cinema purist. This is Cheap, poor quality video which is fine for the masses but if you already have a crappy iPhone. Perhaps just create a strap-on for the users' pinwheel hat.
I have some of their products. They are cool! And I'm a professional photographer.
No affirmative truthing permitted here at ZH, buddy!
Greened for the contrarian.
ditto, except for the professional photographer part. nothing but good experiences so far with them, and the ability to click a bunch on at once is helpful for multi angle shoots. the clamp systems are great.
Yes they are cool toys but they are not pro. As a professional film-maker I will take a RED or an Alexa or even a BMCC
A great short. Yes they invented the genre and their products are OK, but they are no longer unique and price competition will kill margins.
When did duct taping a video camera to your forehead become a multi billion dollar business???
The REALpro move, and I know nothing about this GoHoe product, is to begin "capturing" the firing synapses of the user base
GGP Government Growth Potential. It is now the law that every debt slave must wear this GoPro (300 million Units Potential) to record each waking moment. The NSA can then review the content of the waking moments and pass the information onto the correct revenue raising authority. The revenues from all minor and major infringements of the law will help make you a better citizen. (note: Congress and Senate elected have the usual exclusions from the law)
