Will We Never Learn? (2002 Edition)

Tyler Durden's picture

"The tragedy for all of us would be if the Fed's and the Treasury's and the Congress's reverence for people who make a lot of money left us unprotected against some sudden revelation of the truth that becomes obvious only in hindisght... that a lot of them don't know what they are doing..."

Well we now know that it is not reverence for people who make a lot of money but control by people who make a lot of money and who in turn can harness the judiciary, the FED, the NSA and every other resource of the nation to ensure that they continue to make money and retain control.

Have we ever learned in the past?

The next crisis is already brewing. All we are waiting for is the Fed to tighten a little.

Every other time QE ended, a major crisis erupted

Remember the "high priests" who read the furture in scattered bones and demanded human sacrifice to "appease the angry Gods"?

They all became Economists in the modern world.

They know exactly what they are doing and they are doing it well.

Maybe not exactly, but generally speaking, definitely.

One need only look at the behaviour of the past 5 years to see what has happened. Clearly, the MSM has been bought off, a very large portion of the populace is in denial and hiding under the covers, another large portion of the sheeple are just too busy working and foraging for their daily bread to really pay attention (not by accident) and let us not forget the intellectually challenged among us who worship their Obama phones and unrestricted SNAP cards and cry "Racist" at every corner while the propaganda machine stomps on dissent and some very lucky and very well connected people are making, literally, billions for themselves and living like gods.

"Do you begin to see, then, what kind of world we are creating? It is the exact opposite of the stupid hedonistic Utopias that the old reformers imagined. A world of fear and treachery and torment, a world of trampling and being trampled upon, a world which will grow not less but more merciless as it refines itself. Progress in our world will be progress toward more pain."

By the way, the truth has never been more visible and available. The only problem is that the vast majority of the sheeple have never been so apathetic and pathetic as they are right now.

I see your point, but I think the larger problem is a complete lack of free speech.

The mass media are far too overpaid, lazy, and stupid to rock the boat by telling the truth about those in power.  If you are a kleptocrat, a bankster, or a welfare hoochie momma, these are the good old days.

The lack of free speech is definitely an impediment but the populace still craves junk. Junk food, junk toys, junk entertainment.

I doubt it Fonz, remember China will need to consume from within to keep their machine rolling along so a revaluation of the Yuan against the USD makes on hell of a lot of sense.  Middle income in China is appx 5k USD, this need to be more along the lines of 20k and China's reliance on the export machine that spans the Pacific becomes less of a necessity (if at all).  It would also mean that the Russian gas becomes less expensive to them, winner winner the general's chicken dinner.  Think where currencies can go, not where they are, and think of how they might advantage current account balances with trading partners not who they currently advantage.  Trade deals might be in local currency and not USD but no one seems to be saying that the value of said currency on a global scale will remain static.

The mass media cannot handle telling the truth. It would mean having to look themselves in the mirror and admit they are complicit in the horror that is to come.  They are traitors and greedy bastards, just like the politicians and bankers.  They helped to elect the farce that rules in Washington and refuse to expose it for the evil it has become.  They are just as guilty.

One significant finding of modern studies is that a person's brain seems to commit to certain decisions before the person becomes aware of having made them

Consciousness is the quality or state of self-awareness, or, of being aware of an external object or something within oneself

Some people are doing things because they are programed (trained) to do them. Like dogs..

Also, at what time do we start talking about this ?

Triage  is the process of determining the priority of patients' treatments based on the severity of their condition. This rations patient treatment efficiently when resources are insufficient for all to be treated immediately.

Alledgedly Greenwald is going to provide the complete list of US domestic surveillance targets within the next 4-6 weeks. That certainly would meet the "sudden revelation of truth that becomes obvious in hindsight" criteria.

The only catalyst to get the USSA citizens off their ass will be a 911 revelation.

Oh, there's a catalyst that will cause change alright.

It's not USSA citizens and 911. It's when a list like that comes out and every political mover and shaker is on it, along with federal judges, the Supremes, etc. My guess is we'll see actual change at the NSA after this comes out -- oh, they won't stop snooping on Susie Homemaker, but I'm quite sure this will be the opening for some sort of congressional oversight in charge of preventing NSA oversight over congress. It'll be the perfect cover for hundreds of blackmailed congressmen to get even, and the NSA's only out would be to leak information about them that would prove the case that NSA needs to be reined in. It looks like lose-lose to me. Maybe Snowden really was a CIA mole intended to take NSA down a few notches after all...

"Diarmuid O’Flynn knows right from wrong. He is not bamboozled by the double speak of Plutocratic Crony Capitalists. He does not think that we deserve the raping we got from the Bankster/Politcal/Political Advisor classes- feeding their addiction to money and power with the blood of suicide victims and the suffering of those facing hunger, emigration and homelessness. Ballyhea Says No campaigner, Diarmuid, is inspiring others across Ireland to wake up from the sucker punch daze of the past few years. Ballyhea Says No is an ongoing grass roots, people power, peaceful protest started in a tiny village in Southern Ireland. History does not repeat , but rhymes .

Who are the the new poets of money ?

Who sings the iambic pentameters of the cash register ?

What uncharted credit lands lie over the wine-dark seas  ?

Gold and unsecured notes .

Promises yesterday and and tomorrow , but no performance today .

My word is my bond , but there is a discount for cash .

Whats there to learn ?   Greenspan never saw a crisis where he couldn't cut interest rates to bail out the Elites.   And the US escaped a housing bubble with ONLY 20 million homeowners underwater.   The Bernank was a learned student of the Great Depression.   See how well that turned out, we never fell into a depression under his chairmanship of the Fed.   And I have full faith and confidence in the new chairman Mr Janet Yellen./s

The study of economics is often baffling and confusing. Many economic theories exist but many are full of holes and conundrums. Much of how people react to a policy may have to do with timing and perception instead of reality. Economics is full of loops that feed back upon themselves and unexpected pitfalls based on expectations.

All this can become quite abstract. Economist predict events that never tend to unfold as expected or planned. Many of the "modern monetary theories" in use today have not been proven over time, but reflect an attitude that we can control  economic cycles better than in the past. More on how few people really understand this very important part of our lives in the article below.
