Hot On The Heels Of Its China Breakthrough, Russia Set To Build Eight Nuclear Power Plants In Iran

Tyler Durden's picture

Before anyone suggests that all Russia is focusing on is China at any and all costs, consider that as we have been saying since 2012, perhaps just as important to Russia (and China) strategically is Iran which has already lashed out against the Petrodollar on numerous occasions in the past, not only for its vast oil reserves, but for its even more strategic location in the heart of the Persian Gulf.

To be sure, the Eurasian crescent of Russia and China would be made all that much stronger if the two nations had a toehold on the Straits of Hormuz, and were able to shut traffic - either tanker or military, with the US Fifth Fleet located in Bahrain - into the Gulf at their bidding. Which is why it was not surprising that not even 24 hours after Russia and China announced the "holy grail" energy deal, that RIA reported Russia is already preparing to lock in the Tehran regime with a deal to build not one but 8 (!) more nuclear power plants in the country.

From RIA:

Moscow may sign an intergovernmental agreement with Teheran this year to build eight new reactors for nuclear power plants in Iran, a source close to the negotiations told journalists Thursday.

Two reactors could be built at the Bushehr Power Plant and six reactors at other sites, the source said, adding that the talks were in their final stage.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said earlier this week that Russian-Iranian cooperation will continue despite international turbulence around Tehran. Putin said that Russia and Iran are not only neighbors, but also long-standing reliable partners.

Iran’s only nuclear power plant near Bushehr came online September 2011 and began operating at full capacity a year after. Moscow handed over operational control of the Russian-made plant to Iran in September last year.

A deal, it goes without saying, that would have China's explicit and implicit blessing.

And cue the US foreign department collapsing in an apopleptic fit of sheer powerlessness, if many, many "costs" for all those involved.

ZH is good (despite their delusional belief in a "free market", which is about as real as unicorns), but there are some good news sources out there. Just gotta search for them because they are not being broadcast in the MSM.

Real news and information must be sought out because nobody is gonna just "give" you the facts. They are far too inconvenient for the powers that be.

I look forward to uniformly peddled lies and a hysterical speech or 2 by Binyamin Mielikowski aka Netanyahu complete with childish props.

This is good news to me for the following odd reason. In what I guess is a propaganda campaign, I've seen a couple of articles talking about the eventual showdown between Iran and Russia. The logic was somehow the US is aligning themselves with IRan which would put a wedge between Iran and Russia.

I figured the chances of that were on par with the chances of me growing a 4th ball. This essentially confirms that.

Aside from helping Iran, Russia is helping build 2 nuclear plants in India as well, announced just now. So much for Western nuclear prowess. This is what happens when you try to sanction a large country. Now so many countries have been sanctioned and so many are unhappy with American hegemony/interference/drone attacks/lack of support due to ever increasing US debt, that they have started working as a large group on their own WITHOUT THE US, outside the traditional US/UK/EU/NATO influence.

21st century here we come! Get ready for the ride in front of our eyes where power will shift faster to the East than anyone can imagine. Civilizations always migrate towards where the money is plenty or resources are greater or opportunity is maximum. The new axis will revolve around a country that starts with a C and ends with an A and in major role will be the country whose name starts with R and ends with A. While supporting roles will be played by Iran, Venezuela, N. Korea, Pakistan, Afghanistan, ex Soviet States, most Latin American countries, most African countries, several Middle Eastern countries and several Asian countries. Guess who will not be invited to the party: several Western countries!

It seems the debt laden Western countries have chosen to fight against some big adversaries instead of working with them and look all set to lose game, set and match.

"Carney was a tool but had the largest steel marbles on the block. The “steely” was the most sought after and traded of all the marbles, and Carney was a grand collector.  Myths were born from his ability to bully smaller kids into trading their one or two heavy spheres for ten or twenty smaller and bland marbles.  At one point I was certain that he had all the steelies in a 1 mile radius.

The afternoon laughter was usually broken by his emergence from the alley and into the field where we kids met every Saturday for the traditional game of marbles.  With his girth and weight he would trample the smaller of the lot and settle at the highest edge of the ring.

Everyone hated playing with Carney because you would never win, even if you did.  It was a lose-lose proposition which many refused to participate in.

Eventually a small grouping of kids joined together and began to avoid Carney altogether.  They would randomly change the location each Saturday and start earlier in the afternoon.  With each passing weekend Carney became more upset and angry over missing the games, not because he couldn’t expand his collection of steelies but because he was left out of the game altogether.

A method of separating Carney from his steely collection was soon devised.  For each weekend which he wished to play, he had to trade back one large steely for smaller and less valuable marbles.  Though not pleased about this at all, his choices were simple now that a group had taken up defense against him.  One, he could continue to bully and unfairly trade with the other kids in order to expand his already large steelie collection.  Or two, he could trade fairly and still be allowed to play the game with the others.

With the kids no longer divided, Carney’s choice was clear.  The feeling of isolation and being left out was more impactful than the feelings of unwarranted reward.  For what was the real value of his steely collection if nobody else wanted to play a game that involved them.

Never once in our childhood understanding of events did we question the fact that the real value of the marbles was provided by the parents who would give us the assorted bags and send us on our way.  So focused on beating each other and transferring marbles amongst ourselves that we never thought to consider where the marbles were actually coming from.

As we continue on into adulthood there isn’t much that changed.  Marbles are replaced with money and we have no idea where it came from.  We just seeked to acquire more of it and trade with it."

Starts with a C and ends in an A?  Oh Canada!   LOL!  Canada actually is well positioned as a mini Russia with resources.  I agree with the rest of your analysis.

The oil and energy between Russia, Iran and neighboring countries is staggering and Russia has the pipelines.  If Putin is smart, he will treat these countries as partners with him.  Using mutual respect.

My guess is Germany will pivot towards the east.

LOL.

I wish it would be Canada because overall it is a very nice place.

However, Canada gets a HUGE erection for Israel plus is anti Iran. If you didnt know Canada was the only country in the past few months who wanted to visit Iran but Iranians made it difficult and actually had to pass the request through Parliament - just for the Canadians - to visit Iran. Wtf! Rest all the countries have been visiting at a speed of few a week with no Parliamentary approval required.

Canada may have the resources but has always been under the shadow of its biggest neighbour which is turning into a negative for the future to some degree.

Only with India, I see them as some sort of business friendly.

In Afghanistan, Iraq etc, Canadian forces were fighting to bring democracy and freedom and find WMD's. This did not go well.

As far as China is concerned, Canada is busy selling its large oil and gas assets to the Chinese so it is a one sided relationship. Money does go a long way.

73% of exports and 50% of imports happen from just one country - USA.

Canada is slowly losing its usefulness on the international stage. It has rarely gone against the wishes of its US Federal masters. If China and Russia band together, Canada will not have any major role to play but will continue in it's past glories nonetheless. The Queen will not let such a large wasteland go to waste!

Of course, when the US goes spreading nuclear tech around, it's not in any way controversial.

Iran that has reliable power and does not have to rely on selling crude for cheap only to reimport refined for $$$ (because someone keeps blowing up their refineries and crying about alternative energy solutions)... is an Iran that gets to break free from the petrodollar entirely.

Two things...

01.)  Iran using nuclear energy... you have to ask... why?  My answer is the actual supply of in ground oil is dramatically less than what OPEC states in their estimates (read:  The Long Emergency).

02.)  The Central Banking Cartel will unleash hell upon the earth should Russia and China join up with Iran and other middle eastern countries to side step the petro dollar.  They will plunge us into WWIII.

Number 1, maybe the Iranians are planning for the future.  Why burn oil or natgas for electricity when there are other options?  As a bonus, they get to piss off their oppressors.  Or maybe it's a ruse to get the bumbling West to make more foreign policy mistakes.

Number 2 is well underway.  It makes me wonder whether the Saudis will change teams.  They see the US crumbling, quick loss of the petrodollar would send the US into chaos.

Maybe because Russian/Soviet nuke plants have not historically been reliable.

Also, if Iranians were smart they would instead build a Petro refining plant so they could supply themselves with their own gas rather than having to import it despite having a crpload of their own oil they export.

Dr. Jim Willie talks about how the USA and probably the UK will throw the Saudis under the bus because:

1. SA oil fields are shagged out.

2. USA and UK are stealing the Saudi gold in London.

Jim Willie says you will see the USA slowly make nice with Iran and throw the Saudis under the bus.  Saudis pivot to China which is happening already.

I am suprised you are in the UAE and you don't understand Shia and Sunni.  It sort of sucks that Iran became islamic because the Persians are pretty amazing.  Anyway, this Sunni and Shia sh*t has been going on for 1300 years(?) or so.  The Shia have been getting it from Sunni Saudis and nobody likes the Saudis.  In fact, more than a few people think the House of Saud are non-muslims from Iraq installed by the British bankster family.

I would argue that the Persians (Shia) are pretty tough hombres and are smarter than their counter parts in that part of the world.  I would be losing sleep if I were a shiek or prince in SA or the UAE.

The US should be having a building boom of nuclear power plants.  Replace these old GE clunkers that dot the land.  I'd rather trust a brand new power plant then some 50 year old design.  Bring jobs to many and allow us to at least have electricity as oil/gas peak and production slips off.   We should also be figuing out ways to use "waste"...the amt of energy in nuclear waste alone could probably power us for decades or centuries.   Nuclear power (as long as you don't build them on fault lines/tsunami areas) provide huge amts of reliable baseload power without using fossil fuels (not totally true..need a lot of fossil fuels to build/maintain/extract uranium)....  Wind/solar are not the answer.  Coal will be the go to, because oil/natural gas will skyrocket in price in the years to come (and become less available).

Disagree. Nuke power plants are the greatest existential threat to mankind - worse than bombs. Much better solutions exist beyond wind and solar.

under cold war rules we would bomb those nuclear plants, and if a few russian scientists were blown up that was too bad (or better yet we get israel to do the deed for us) i suppose the russians will offer to monitor the input and output of material to guarantee that no plutonium is left behind. and they believe in non-proliferation unless maybe somebody is pointing nuclear weapons at them (think Nato, EE) so its a backhanded provocation, but less backhanded than the Cheney doctrine. the new cold war, new rules or tricks, for old dogs.

The invasion of the Sudetenland and countries neighboring Germany were the first steps in WWII. You see, it was claimed that Germans were being discriminated against and threatened.  The invasion was a "rescue" operation.

The Invasion of Georgia and now Ukraine by Russians is purported (by Russian State Media) to be to protect Russians from supposed harm by their yesteryear cousins, the Ukrainians.  Russians in Crimea, claimed RT News, were being attacked by Ukrainians.

I suspect Putin gave a little *giggle* when he directed the Russian Media to spin the story of the invasion as one of a "rescue operation".

Do you think Hitler giggled, too, or did he just give a satisfied smile?

Dear DC US,

Some wisdom from the Stones:

Well, I saw her today at the reception
A glass of wine in her hand
I knew she would go meet her connection
At her feet was her footloose man

No, you can't always get what you want
aaaahhwaw
No, you can't always get what you want
aaaahhwaw
No, you can't always get what you want
aaaahhwaw
But if you try sometime, you just might find
You get what you need

And I went down to the demonstration
To get my fair shares of abuse
Singing, "We're gonna vent our frustration
And if we don't, we are going to blow a 50-amp fuse", yeah

And no, you can't always get what you want
aaaahhwaw
No, you can't always get what you want
aaaahhwaw
Well, no, you can't always get what you want
aaaahhwaw
But if you try sometimes you just might find
You get what you need, baby

And I went down to the Chelsea drugstore
To get your prescriptions filled
I was standin' in line with Mr. Jimmy
And man, did he look pretty ill

We decided to have a soda
"Whatcha favorite flavor?", "Cherry red"
And I sung my song to my friend Jimmy
And he said one word back to me, that was "Dead"
I said

Oh, you can't always get what you want
aaaahhwaw
Oh, you can't always get what you want
aaaahhwaw
Oh, you can't always get what you want
aaaahhwaw
But if you try sometimes, you just might find
You get what you need

Oh, you can't always get what you want
aaaahhwaw
You can't always get what you want
aaaahhwaw
You can't always get what you want
aaaahhwaw
You can't always get what you want
aaaahhwaw

And I saw her today at the reception
In her glass was a bleeding man
And she was practised that the art of deception
I could tell by her blood-stained hands

Oh, you can't always get what you want
aaaahhwaw
Oh, you can't always get what you want
aaaahhwaw

Oh, you can't always get what you want
aaaahhwaw
Oh, you can't always get what you want
aaaahhwaw
Oh, you can't always get what you want
aaaahhwaw
Oh, you can't always get what you want
aaaahhwaw
But if you try sometimes you just might find
You get what you need
