Hot On The Heels Of Its China Breakthrough, Russia Set To Build Eight Nuclear Power Plants In Iran

Tyler Durden's picture

Before anyone suggests that all Russia is focusing on is China at any and all costs, consider that as we have been saying since 2012, perhaps just as important to Russia (and China) strategically is Iran which has already lashed out against the Petrodollar on numerous occasions in the past, not only for its vast oil reserves, but for its even more strategic location in the heart of the Persian Gulf.

To be sure, the Eurasian crescent of Russia and China would be made all that much stronger if the two nations had a toehold on the Straits of Hormuz, and were able to shut traffic - either tanker or military, with the US Fifth Fleet located in Bahrain - into the Gulf at their bidding. Which is why it was not surprising that not even 24 hours after Russia and China announced the "holy grail" energy deal, that RIA reported Russia is already preparing to lock in the Tehran regime with a deal to build not one but 8 (!) more nuclear power plants in the country.

From RIA:

Moscow may sign an intergovernmental agreement with Teheran this year to build eight new reactors for nuclear power plants in Iran, a source close to the negotiations told journalists Thursday.

Two reactors could be built at the Bushehr Power Plant and six reactors at other sites, the source said, adding that the talks were in their final stage.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said earlier this week that Russian-Iranian cooperation will continue despite international turbulence around Tehran. Putin said that Russia and Iran are not only neighbors, but also long-standing reliable partners.

Iran’s only nuclear power plant near Bushehr came online September 2011 and began operating at full capacity a year after. Moscow handed over operational control of the Russian-made plant to Iran in September last year.

A deal, it goes without saying, that would have China's explicit and implicit blessing.

And cue the US foreign department collapsing in an apopleptic fit of sheer powerlessness, if many, many "costs" for all those involved.

As a side note, recall that General Electric was the genius behind Fukushima and the reactor facility design.

General electric's CEO, Jack Welsh,  is famous for saying:

"Ideally you'd have every plant you own on a barge" -- ready to move if any national government tried to impose restraints on the factories' operations, or if workers demanded better wages and working conditions.

COSMOS, Putin and Obama are playing a game where we are being used as pawns for shadow oligarchs.  Try to keep that in mind.

Not sure how to respond.

Shiites and Sunis = BAD.  Fundamentalist Religion = WORSE.

You give a side reference to Reagan's stupid arming of the Mujhaadeen.  Good point.  It should NEVER have happened.

Reagan was one of those ass-licking politicians who serviced the Christian right.  There are many to take his place today in the Libertarian and Republican circles.

The Christian right of the 1980s thought Islam was good when compared to Godless Communism.

Christians have no moral compass as they believe in inherited guilt, mass punishment, human sacrifice and worse, vicarious redemption.  Do not trust any politician who claims to be a Christian or of any religion for that matter.

No matter what crap you got around a nuclear reactor, when the shit goes critical there ain't nothing man can put around that thing that keep the angy nuclear genie in its bottle.  The best bet you got is several cooling options and backup systems.

Fukushima has proven that containment vessels don't work. They didn't contain anything, blew apart right away. All 4. During normal operation, all the tritium gas (radioactive hydrogen) that builds up is vented to atmosphere anyway, with no filtering. Hence the cancer clusters around NPP's.

Now, from an external standpoint, it might protect against a dive-bombing Cessna, but not a full-sized commercial aircraft, or a launched missle or two.

So, at this point, what does it matter, what difference does it make?

Sadly true.

The USA traded expediency for American Values and decency for many years now.  And the folks who authored this trade did so with no regard for the wishes or long term consequences of the American people.  And the political figures involved are often revered to this day and their advisers received promotions and high paying private sector jobs as a reward.

As a result, the USA has very little moral credibility to stand on.  Yet, the crimes of the USA pale in comparison to other great powers such as China and Russia.

USA and its crimes are significantly worse than anywhere else in the world, the media and history books omit it.

Most of the crimes are covert.  You think those GMO foods aren't genocide?  The vaccines that sterilize people?  Those depleted uranium rounds that have killed millions, agent orange, cancer 'treatments' that kill millions, environmental destruction.  The list goes on and on, US is a royally fucked up place.

Lets look at the teams: Russia/Iran/China vs US/Israel/Canada/Europe

Furthermore, most of team Israel and its satellite states are full of immigrants and disillusioned populus, many of whom are simply too obese to fight a war, and many have no loyalty to the country.  I wouldn't fight a war for Canada, our government is full of crooks.  What are we fighting for?

GMO food?

Pharmaceuticals?

Vaccines?

Debt slavery?

The right to circumcise defenseless babies?

Because these are the holy grails of America right now, pumped and pushed by the MSM as 'good'.  The CIA/Banksters can eat a dick, I hope Putin rounds them up and sends them to jail for their crimes against humanity.  If these assholes had won, we'd have a genocidal world government right now, killing everyone they can to 'save the planet'.

Ya, we see who our leaders are, and what they have planned.  I welcome Putin, at least he values life.

Thats not true. America always keeps its word in the name of freedom. Look at the Native Americans, look at the blacks after slavery, (and the reason they fought the civil war), look at their tender loving support of foreign regimes, look at all the massive civilian populations they carpet bombed during WWII. And now America is in the gentle controlling grip of Zionist Israel, that should really turbocharge all that goodness.

The only reason we are not all world government slaves right now is Putin. He might not be an angel, he might even be bad, I don't know, but at least if he is negative and against the negative NWO, two negatives multiplied are a positive. I am rooting for Putin and his emerging axis to slow these fuckers down.

"There was nothing wrong with the design of Chernobyl. Human error, and poor judgement."

Fuck that. Their reactor was a pile of shit. It had a positive void coefficient, so the reaction goes FASTER unless it is controlled. To make it worse, it used a graphite moderator instead of water. The runaway reaction made the graphite catch on fire and release huge amounts of radioactive smoke into the air. You couldn't design a shittier reactor if you tried.

The really scary part is that lots of these Chernobyl design reactors are still in service.

This  is exactly the point. The US can bomb and destroy all infrastructure including powerplants just as they did in Iraq and Lybia. But not nuclear plants, because the nuclear fall-out is going with the wind and nobody can stop it. They bomb Iran but the wind blows it to Turkey or to the US/UK colonies around the gulf or Saudi, Egypt, Israel.  These nuclear power plants are going to protect Iran somehow.
