Commuters Herded Like Cattle As China Escalates Its Own "War On Terror"

Tyler Durden's picture

Submitted by Mike Krieger of Liberty Blitzkrieg blog,

I have often said that while 9/11 was a horrible event, our collective response to it has been the real tragedy (read my How I Remember September 11, 2001 post). A terrible event is no excuse to become such scared children that we would relinquish the basic freedoms our ancestors fought so hard to secure for us.

The only people who really benefit from an expansion of the surveillance state and a loss of liberties are the rich and powerful. With China’s economy in free fall and increased violence occurring, it appears the leadership there is taking a page out of our post 9/11 playbook. This is what the commute looks like at train stations in Beijing:

Screen Shot 2014-05-28 at 11.46.34 AM

This is what cattle in pens look like:

Screen Shot 2014-05-28 at 11.35.50 AM

Actually, the cattle have more space. Seriously though, this is all security theatre. As I have mentioned on prior occasions, I have never gone through one of those naked body scanners. Instead, I opt out for the TSA “freedom grope.” Why? Because I know it’s total bullshit and I’m not going along with it.

I fly from Denver to New York City quite a bit and you know what I’ve noticed. While every machine in Denver is now a naked body scanner, all of the machines from the security checkpoint I use in New York are regular metal detectors. I find this bizarre. If the number one target for terrorism can get away with metal detectors, why can’t everywhere else? Because people like former head of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Michael Chertoff, need to get paid.

More from the Wall Street Journal:

Already difficult commutes in China’s capital became even more punishing this week, as Beijing beefed up subway security checks in the wake of deadly attacks targeting civilians.

Hundreds of unhappy commuters stood in long lines across the city Wednesday morning to undergo enhanced security screenings, which now include body checks as well as bag screenings in several stations. At stations in the city’s north, subway staff said passengers had to wait between 20-30 minutes to get through the security line, up from about 10-15 minutes prior to the new screening requirements.

“This is such a hassle,” said Zhi Yajuan, 23, as she stood in line Tuesday at Tiantongyuan North Station. “It’s just going through the motions. They don’t care even if the machine beeps.”

Security measures have stiffened across China in recent weeks, following a series of violent attacks since the start of the year. In the most recent incident, 31 people were killed last week in an attack at a market in northwest Urumqi. In March, dozens were killed in an assault by knife-wielding assailants at a train station in southwest Kunming. Authorities have labeled such episodes terrorist attacks and attributed them to separatists in northwestern Xinjiang.

They better ban knives, and quick.

Additional security measures in Beijing now include helicopter patrols, while cities across the country have been further arming their police forces, as well.

I don’t care what kind of security you put in place, if some maniac wants to do something crazy they are going to do it. Personally, I have no interest in living in a society where everyone is scared of their own shadow 24/7. We are all going to die, stop being afraid and start living. Free.

I'm calling bullshit on this. I fly through NY very often. No fucking way. Those fucking scumbags ALWAYS give me a hard time when I'm opting out. This is for both domestic and international. AND to top it all off, the TSA agents at JFK are the lowest of the fucking low.

I remember the same problem in the Basque region of Spain when a bomb scare was announced in a crowded rail station. There was only one door and in the ensuing panic 100s were injured or killed trying to get through that door. The moral is; Don't put all your Basques in the one exit.

the chinese government is claiming that this is because of the recent meetings in beijing of the higher ups in government and putin visiting. none of my chinese colleagues know anything about the recent terrorist attacks. none of them have heard about anything regarding vietnam either. then again, most americans stil think 19 arabs with box cutters pulled off 9/11, so i guess i shouldnt judge.

I call bullshit. I've been through Melbourne and Sydney airports -- border patrol are even bigger bullies there than in the US. Complete with full body scanners and everything (based on I think 10 trips that I've taken between 2009-2012).

They bark orders at you like you're entering some sort of prison camp as you wait in the line with the non-Australian citizens.

Not making it about me, I'm just too well acquainted with this Aussie notion that Australia is somehow several steps above the UK or the US. Maybe because it's so far off on a distant corner of the planet that no one really has anything within their realm of experience to compare it to. Let me tell you, having lived there, it's no better and arguably worse.

LOL, Freedum, I also live in Western Australia, the Australian airports and security you talk about is in some weird alternative universe that exists in your head. Aussiekiwi, I truly regret not having made it to WA if this is the case because this was my experience in Melbourne / Sydney. You may have the benefit of traveling as an Aussie citizen and thus not be exposed to the sort of experience non-Australian citizens are at the border.

I think there are just as many problems regarding freedoms and civil rights in Australia as there are in the US or UK -- it is not a utopia, and that's the gist of what I am trying to argue here.

WA is relatively more relaxed, NSW and Victoria are full-on police states.

Although full-body scanners are not ubiquitous in Australian Airports yet. If "randomly picked" you cannot opt out or they will take you for questioning and make you miss your flight and can ban you from flying for 24h.

For the last time, we are talking about domestic travel. We are not talking about your problems at the border. STOP MAKING THIS ABOUT YOU!

Australia has a massive tourism industry, do you think we would really set up internal harassment checkpoints, to harass the tourists every time they moved? Maybe at the border they harass people. I don't know. But the article is addressing domestic travel. So keep on topic.

If there's an article on border security then your stories would be quite relevant. Here they are totally off topic.

it works like this ( remember lots of people and lots of trains):    You buy a ticket at the ticket hall at the end of the train station on the outside.   In front of the train station is a large square where lots of people are waiting along with the usual hawkers.   You get in the line to get into the departure station and show your ticket at least  once.  Then you proceed to the departure hall for your train, this is where all the passengers on your train are waiting.  When your train enters the station everyone lines up like in the pictures and proceds thru the gates where you ticket is viewed several more times.   This allows you to get to the platform and on the train.

If they didn't do this there would be hundreds of non paying passengers on your train and they are harder to get off than to prevent from getting on.    I highly reccomend a trip to China.

Though the defensive measure would be how packed it is - the knifer wouldn't be able to get much leverage lol... and brave commuters could restrain the person better.

Actually if you've lived in China you'll realize the rails and lines are there not to control people's lives but to prevent a mass shoving and cutting into the line, which is customary in China.  This happens at bus stations, airports etc. too.  No big deal.

China has 1.3 billion people and moves them quickly and efficiently, and without being harrassed by trailer trash TSA employees. China-bashing reporters will take a photo of an atypical situation and report that it is the norm in ALL of the country. Such is the Yellow Press. And BTW, China's economy is NOT in free-fall. This is just the hope of Americans who see their hegemony failing.

The only people who really benefit from an expansion of the surveillance state and a loss of liberties are the rich and powerful.

Actually it is the State which benefits from the expansion of the surveillance state. If you are rich and powerful you might be able to buy protection and favors.

OK and who owns the state?  The rich and powerful who not just "might" buy protection and favours.  Dead cert guaranteed.

Any further confusion?

"I have often said that while 9/11 was a horrible event, our collective response to it has been the real tragedy "

Yep. Cheney and Rumsfeld won that one

Too true and hardly just a "horrible event", it was an obscene inside job and nothing to do with Osama bin Laden + 19 arab non-pilots.

The author of this piece should do some research and cease implicitly supporting what he superficially objects to.

If he bothered to visit A&E for 911 Truth, for instance, then he would (possibly) soon realize that the entire "war on terror" is as big a deadly farce as the "war on drugs" and all else the MIC touts in the MSM.

Thank Jerome Hauer for giving the Mockingbird Press the 9/11 culprits' identities in under an hour. I've seen liquor store hold-ups that took longer to "solve".

Solve it? Easy.

19 Wahabist nutjobs who hate non-Islam, funded by back door Saudi Royal Family oil money, take advantage of tertiary small airports in the USA and hijack planes.

Islam has been at war with non-Islam since about AD610. Note that date is just a few weeks before the USA began pissing off Muslims and forcing them to do this due to faulty Foggy Bottom policies. (sic)

Since no one, anywhere, had ever hijacked a *commercial liner* to use it's PE and KE as a weapon, no one thought it would happen.

They then chose two of the three buildings world wide that don't have an internal structural support system, fly the aircraft into those structures, and cause their collapse.

If only society had not reacted so fascistically to the events.

I asked my partents how many buildings fell in NYC on 911.  They said 2.  The propaganda machine has succeeded.

Whenever I see this security theatre nonsense I'm reminded of this great presentation from US Cyber Command (yeah, the pros don't buy the theatre either).

http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=v0JHDr1oT0Y

Fact is, humans are SMART. There isn't any protective measure you can design that can't be easily bypassed, in 100 different ways, by sufficiently motivated individuals. So the key to security is to design around the motivation (remove it), not to try and catch attackers in the act. Prevention of disease is always more effective, cheaper, but less glamorous, than treatment of an established disease.

Security theatre is not prevention, it's not even treatment, it's just kids playing doctors and nurses.

Just so that we can be clear, any terrorist attack by muslims in china from here on in is a CIA false flag attack.

Because everyone knows how dumb muslims are, and will do precisely what the CIA tells them, all over the world, every day, without question.

I have not seen the cattle pens on any of my trips to China. They may be there, but what I saw was orderly and respectful people. Yes, they are afraid of the government and the government is afraid of the people... but it is generally orderly and respectful (except for the pushy old ladies and drivers of course).

Just as in the US, the people may go through the motions of looking as if they are cowed and compliant ... but underneath they could decide to change if the situation indicates a need for a change. The government workers are for the most part people too and they know something is not right, so they generally practice a form of subtle noncompliance.
