A Quarter Of Europeans Are At Risk Of Poverty
Wondering why the extreme left (we are not happy and need moar bailouts) and extreme right (this European 'union' thing is not working out so well for us) have become so euro-skeptic? Perhaps the following chart from Bloomberg Brief's Niraj Shah will clear up any questions. The ratio of people at risk of poverty or social exclusion in the EU increased by 0.5 percentage points in 2012 to 24.8% or 124.2 million people, according to figures updated this week. The risk increased most in bailed-out nations Greece and Cyprus, where the rate rose by 3.6 and 2.5 percentage points, respectively. The Netherlands had the lowest risk at 15%.

damn it must suck to be bulgaria
ALL of euroweenies are at risk of poverty!
It surprises me that the Czech Republic has relatively few poor people. Or maybe there are bad statistics being used...
Or Romania for that matter. Just goes to show what happens in countries where there is a lot of theft and corruption. Coming soon on an even bigger scale than it already is now in the USA once the dollar is relegated to the continent when it loses reserve status. Then the middle class will find out just how poor it is when gas is 8 dollars a gallon and they are raped by the health insurance companies courtesy of Obamacare.
Pure and simple corruption means that money is stolen from the taxpayers and it ends up in hands that did nothing to earn it. Look at TARP. Wall street insiders got their grubby little hands on it, and Bernie gets to make a quarter of a million dollars over a dinner speech as he gets paid with the same money he doled out to his buddies.
I know some people from Romania and they tell me Corruption there is rampant, and its just as bad as in Bulgaria. They have their own homegrown oligarchs and everyone steals. People go into the national forests and cart off semitrucks full of stolen timber (they will even steal timber off of private property if you are not there 24/7), houses are broken into and cleared out of not just valuables but even all the funiture and clothes.
If its not nailed down they will steal it.
Of course expect the same if not worse here in the USA. What ticks me off lately is ATT they have been charging me for these phantom data charges that take me over my plan limit and then I get charged penalties. I know what I use my phone for, when I say to them what is this web data where is it coming from or going to they say we cant tell you that for your own protection. I guess I should just call the NSA they would be able to help me more.
Anyways did a little digging on the internet
Barry Davis, an attorney with Thornton, Davis & Fein, P.A. in Miami, the firm representing Hendricks, said the suit was filed after an independent computer engineer verified the overcharge claims made by AT&T customers.
The engineer spent two months testing about a dozen different smartphones and found that AT&T iPhones and iPads consistently overstated data usage and billed for "phantom data traffic," Davis said.
http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/att-lawsuit-data-charges-shows-customer...
so obviously ATT is stealing from me. Like that white lines song by grandmaster flash goes "a street kid gets arrested..."
Yeah so everyone is stealing like crazy here in the USA. If a corporation or the govt does it or commits other crimes its OK
So its not a cop shaking me down yet for twenty bucks to let me out of a ticket like in Mexico or Europe, but its a corporation shaking me down by pilfering my money through overcharges.
Dont matter if you are on the physical asphalt roadways or the fiber optic lines of the information superhighway, you get ripped off.
Check your phones iCloud settings. If they are on, your phone is syncing more than you think thus the data transfers.
Yeah did all that a few months back. Stuff is still happening. I am ticked off that they can't tell me where this data is coming or going to. How the heck am I supposed to either find out whats doing it on my phone, or if they are doing these phantom charges. One time there was a 120MB data movement and one hour later 30MB data movement on a day I did nothing with my phone. Can't stand being pilfered a few dollars here and a few dollars there. So many freakin dishonest people and companies, you have to watch everything like a hawk.
Case and point I was getting a stereo installed, now if it was a simple install they would charge you like 50 bucks if they had to do more work pulling the radio (like taking out dash pieces) and adapting the connectors in the back, they would charge like 70 bucks because the installation took them longer. So they were like you can leave the keys and come back in a an hour. I was like its ok Ill stick around. Turns out he used a special key on either side of the old stereo to slide it out (no dash problems) then there was no problem with the wiring. When the charges get run up the guy charges me 70, I was like no I was watching you, it took less than half an hour and you didnt have to do any extra work. Even with all his fidgeting and moving around he didnt go past the thirty minute mark. So I got into an argument and eventually the manager came down and I told him what was up.
Again just people nickeling for twenty bucks, and it ticks me off.
Cause you are a business you can rip me off a little here or there and walk away scott free but when a kid steals from me he ends up in jail (the way it should be of course, and where the business guy should be also). That is why I say they shoul d of brought criminal charges against the GM execs who knew about the safety issues and decided a few payouts for some dead customers were cheaper than a recall. That is murder in my book.
Anyways moral of the story there is a crapload of corruption not just on the BIG Trillion and Billion dollars scale, but also Joe Schmo around the corner. So dont tell me the USA is not any more corrupt than some African or East European country.
By the way I guess the down votes are the thieving little car radio installers LOL
Just cancel your data plan. They're spying on you through it anyway. Do you like the thought of them spying on you?
I think I am not alone when I say that most things are a complete scam nowadays. The answer to the data issue is probably "Ghetto PCS". Truly unlimited usage. Why mess around with limits and so much 4g and then so much 2g and horsheshit? Besides the outright theft you mentioned, all the apps download/update crap on their own so a lot of your bandwidth is wasted by all the bloatware they stick on your phone.
I agree 100% Czech Republic should be near Italy. There are plenty of poor and homeless people in the main cities. The minimum wage is around $US 350 a month, the avarage before tax wage being around $US 1,100 a month (about $800 clean in hand). It's a bit hard to see if these stats are trustworthy, but I tend to agree with the article as such.
I'm half Czech and visit every year.
You clearly dont know what your talking about. As far as politics goes the Czechs lead the way. They are prideful. They recently impeached their prime minister on the fact that his second in command spied on her ex-husbands family. Can you imagine anything like that happening in America?
They are also the most agnostic nation on the planet.
They also kept their currency, which has held up pretty well.
And the number of BMW's, Ferraris, Porsches I see on the streets of Prague is staggering.
So next time, dont talk out of your ass.
to be replaced by Ukraine in the near future.
So this website is pro-right its good to see that. I'm not liking where this website is going.
Pro right left doesn't matter everyone is a slave and I like how Stratfor is a zero hedge read I would change that if you want to keep credibility. http://share.pho.to/#5o54C
don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out
I read GF's latest piece on Romania as he travels through the former Soviet states. He's subtely presenting the neo-con propaganda concerning Ukraine.
A recent piece indicated he was born in Hungary and his Jewish family had some very difficult times during WW 2. I find his insights interesting but he has a hidden agenda he's pushing via his newsletter.
Who is CF and what is the link?
COSMOS Who is CF and what is the link?

Well he was responding to the comment about stratfor. You can do a internet search and figure out who GF is. This is a test of your intelligence.
earnyermoney I find his (GF) insights interesting but he has a hidden agenda he's pushing via his newsletter..
-----
Yea, his agenda is to sell a newsletter. Other then that, he has very little influence and importance.
Just a quarter? Seriously?
.
No kidding. When I clicked the link to this article I was thinking that the number of Europeans at risk of poverty had dropped to 25 percent and that this was a Goldilocks green shoot sparkly beam of sunshine happiness.
But hey, if it's up to a quarter, they still have a long way to go before catching up to the US of A.
wonder where the US would be on this chart? 92 M unemployed, 50 on EBT, sounds like 1/4 to me....
is that a nickel plated quarter?

apparently not silver either...

Be more interesting if they advised what constitutes poverty by country.... with the size of the social safety nets over there I imagine the line is pretty damn high. US line for a family of four is 23,850 this article made me look it up... be interesting to gross up the food stamps and all of the freebies I bet you its north of 40k... no taxes paid. I see the single mom welfare cliffs here, but not a normal family.... Somehow I have trouble seeing 3K a month no taxes as being poor......... Guess that explains the $150 sneakers on the poor kids....
Apart from having better economies, in countries with low risks the social benefits are high. The largest part of tax collected goes to social benefits. In higher risks countries the benefits are low. But how long can low risk countries maintain this system of benefits? For this taxes need to increase but that won't make the working people happy.
And the leftists/Keynesians want us to be more like the Europeans. What a bunch of scum.
It's also about what one badly needs. Many Dutch people are in desperate need of money always since they are addicted to all kinds of fast lane cheap nonsense. Still they're never satisfied although make the false claim very easily. It's all just lies, greater lies and of course ... statistics. HELLO Animal Farm.
My neer-do-well grand-uncle in Sweden was the family's black sheep, living on the dole; he also had a summer house.
Can someone please define what "in Poverty" Means?
Is it only having 1 Ipad , 2 mobile phones and only being able to take 3 foreign holiday breaks a year?
Poverty to me is missing 3 main meals a week, choosing between heating or eating.
So please define what is Poverty in the context to this article.
There are several countries in Europe with 25% plus unemployment. That has to be untenable, the puzzle is why there hasn't been serious revolt yet. Rioting, yes, but actual revolt not yet. So far, TPTB have done an effective job of brainwashing the people (through complient MSM) that what they need is more EU and more Eurozone, not less. They also point to the inevitable dislocation from any post Euro reset to frighten the masses into sticking with the Devil they know, despite that fact that being untethered from the Euromonstrosity would in the medium and longer term enable a return to previous levels of relartive prosperity. Meanwhile the panem et circenses go on and on.
At the same time, for those not yet fully suckered in, i.e. UK, we're told that to leave the (flat on it's arse) EU would mean inevitable economic calamaity, even as the EU's share of our trade ever-diminishes. Never once do they ever manage to come up with any explanation or detail on where some remarkably precise figures (480,000 was spouted recently by the Lib-Dem party) come from. This of course is because they talk pure bullshit. If anyone seriously thinks that if the UK left the EU then suddenly the EU members (and/or their industrialists) would wish to stop or restrict trade with the UK (Note big balance of payments towards EU/Eurozone) then they are deluded.
Happily, eurosceptic and anti-Europe parties are gaining ground fast, with UKIP doing well in recent UK elections despite sham parties beign put up to stral votes and very biased MSM coverage. Admittedly, some of those parties in mainland Europe do appear to have some unpleasant leanings which could store uptrouble.. That, however, is likely to be a reflection of broad disgust with TPTB policies and abuses, and therefore inevitable.
Finally, out of all this and the hardship TPTB and US/EU have caused, I find it remarkable that there is so much introspective and Byzantine inward-lookingness at a time when a brave, outgoing direction is needed with real leadership. I imagine anyone showing a glimmer of true statesmanship these days would be seen as a dangerous liability by the vested interests.
These are the kinds of numbers that seed World Wars..nuff said.
