Someone Decided To Buy $1 Billion eMinis In 1 Second At The All Time High

Tyler Durden's picture

Someone decided that 1436ET was the perfect time to buy $1bn worth of S&P 500 futures (10k contracts) in 1 second (and $1.8 billion in that minute)... this flush of volume is the largest minute of the day and lifted all equity indices and ETFs in one magical move. As a result of the order, bonds rallied even as and VIX is higher on the day.

10k contracts in 1 second and 18.6k contracts in that minute...

and Bonds rallied...

That's the spirit!

We have exceptional markets...

Relentless101's picture

Markets are high and freedom is low. Sounds awefully socialist if you ask me.

Does this qualify as "Momentum Ignition"

This market is so fucked up. My only hope is the gold bars I have in my basement.

0b1knob's picture

There are two sides to every trade.  If somebody bought 1 million contracts then somebody else sold (short?) 1 million contracts.

Time will tell who is smart one in the trade.

gh0atrider's picture

The SEC does not find any conflict of interest regarding this trade as we have naturalized HFT bots in the United States.

rocker's picture

That leaves the Fed with a few more billions to spend this month, right ?   LOL

BuddyEffed's picture

I'd gander that the Belgium consortium and it's partners are buying just about everything that needs some splaining.

SAT 800's picture

Generally speaking with a chart like that it would be existing shorts that did the buying; in the form of stop losses, which are execut ed as market orders when triggered, and locals and smart money that did the selling; so I would expect that the sellers will be taking profits at lower prices within two or three days  replying to ob1knob

BC6's picture

Pretty soon we're talking about billions ... oh, wait.

mt paul's picture

these are not  the E-minis

you are looking for....

SAT 800's picture

Actually they are the E-minis I'm looking for; cause I'm 4,000$ out of the money on my shorts; and I think this means we're going to have some kind of move down in the next few days.

Headbanger's picture

Then cheers!

Who says they can't print money by buying equities?

Hell, they probably buy and sell paper Gold all day.

Now, now, they were just spending the dough they got from selling all those gold contracts this morning. At the bottom.  Perfectly understandable if you are a 'market maker'.

If S&P continues to go up, great trade.  If S&P goes down, Goldman will reverse it.

disabledvet's picture

Goldman? They're just a partnership.

If the S&P gets hammered a thousand points tomorrow everyone there will simply abandon ship. The only thing those clowns are good for is a trillion dollar liability.

The irony is that we have tons of capital available...hundreds of billions actually. The misallocation over the past 6 years has been truly extraordinary.

"More than sufficient to blow up the State of New York."

I guess the Personal income and Spending reports to be issued at "8:30" tomorrow were released early
