Couple Fined $746 For The Crime Of Feeding Homeless People In Florida Park

Tyler Durden's picture

Submitted by Mike Krieger of Liberty Blitzkrieg blog,

It is a well known historical trend that as discontent and dissent spread within a society, the power structure will look to demonize unpopular or weak minorities in order to deflect frustrations away from the true culprit, the power structure itself. Many feared in the immediate aftermath of 9/11 that Muslims would serve as such a scapegoat, and indeed in many ways this occurred, although not to the extent that many feared. In my opinion, it is homeless people that are being increasingly demonized and treated as subhuman. I think that if we want to see how the state and crony corporate status quo will treat everyone in the future, all you have to do is look at the current “war on the homeless.”

If you think about, the homeless actually serve as the perfect scapegoat for a former American middle class slowly being driven into serfdom. Still completely mesmerized by the religion of consumerism, how is a population losing its freedom and financial well-being supposed to feel better about itself. The easy answer is to look at an even more destitute class and treat them like the “elites” treat everyone else. Like a superfluous and unfortunate outgrowth of humanity.

I strongly believe that it is just as important to show compassion for the least fortunate within society as it is to fight against the incredibly corrupt establishment. Failing to do so makes you no better than they are.

From ThinkProgress:

After feeding the hungry in a Daytona Beach park every weekend for more than a year, it’s just as easy to imagine Chico and Debbie Jimenez given a ticker-tape parade as what they actually got: a slew of citations and a permanent ban from the park.Chico and Debbie Jimenez, a husband and wife team, aren’t handing out food in the Florida heat every Wednesday because of a court order or for a paycheck. They do it because they believe helping the poor is their religious duty.

Every Wednesday, the Jimenezes feed more than a hundred people a hearty lunch with dishes of chicken patties, macaroni salad, and fresh vegetables, among others. The meals are entirely funded by private donations and staffed with volunteers.

However, Daytona Beach is one of a handful of cities that enacted ordinances barring individuals from serving food in public. Last week, nearly a half-dozen police officers showed up at Manatee Island Park, where a long line of people had queued to get a meal, and served citations to the Jimenezes and volunteers.

According to the group’s Facebook page, Chico and Debbie, along with four volunteers, were each given multiple 2nd degree misdemeanor citations. The fines totaled $373 per person, $2,238 for the group. The police also permanently banned the group from Manatee Island Park. “We both have made a lot of good friends in the park and are devastated that we are banned the Manatee Park forever,” Debbie wrote. “I am heartbroken.”

Can’t arrest a single banker, but police sure are good at stopping citizens from feeding the hungry. Sick.

Daytona Beach is just the latest city to crack down on groups that feed the poor in city parks. Other recent examples range from Birmingham to St. Louis to Raleigh to Philadelphia to Orlando. A 2010 report from the National Law Center on Homelessness & Poverty identified more than a dozen other cities with restrictions and found an uptick in the number of new ordinances.

The Jimenezes, who both left jobs more than a year ago to focus on ministry full-time, were upset about the developments, but told the News-Journal that they planned to challenge the citations rather than pay them. “We are ‘ NOT Criminals ‘ and feeding ‘ Hungry folks ‘ is not a crime,” the couple said.

I’ve written several articles on this theme in the past. I suggest checking them out:

The Homeless in NYC Are Now Living in Tiny Spaces in the Frame of the Manhattan Bridge

Illinois Church Told by City Officials it Can No Longer Provide Homeless People Shelter

South Carolina City Implements Law That Requires a $120 Permit to Feed the Homeless

Acting as a decent human being is increasingly becoming criminalized in America.

To update George Orwell’s famous statement for modern times:

In a world of universal narcissism, being a compassionate person is a revolutionary act.

While it is true that there are a lot of scammers among the homeless and beggars, it is up to each individual giver to determine who and how they will/will not help, NOT THE GUBMINT !!!

@didyoujustpullt...Just replace the word "homeless" with the word "banker" and you're somewhat right. What a useless screed. I have worked with homeless shelters for years and bicycled 15,000 miles around the country raising money and awareness for a shelter in my home town. Yes, about 10%-15% game the system but that is far less than the amount of government workers and banksters that game it. In my hometown 40% of the homeless are children under 10 years of age and that is very nearly the national average. You sir are totally and utterly wrong.

Sure. I spent 25 years in the healthcare software industry and left just as soon as the (un)Affordable Care Act was passed. I guess I could have continued on making lots of $$$ but my conscience couldn't deal with it. I wouldn't say it gave me a "warm fuzzy feeling" but it has opened up my eyes to the true state of this country which is pretty dismal despite what the government and media would have us all believe. You ought to climb down from your ivory tower and go out and see for yourself.

They must all be crazy drug addicts • In January 2013, 610,042 people were homeless on a given night. Most (65 percent) were living in emergency shelters or transitional housing programs and 35 percent were living in unsheltered locations. • Nearly one-quarter (23 percent or 138,149) of all homeless people were children, under the age of 18. Ten percent (or 61,541) were between the ages of 18 and 24, and 67 percent (or 410,352) were 25 years or older. • There were 57,849 homeless veterans on a single night in January 2013. Sixty percent were located in shelters or transitional housing programs, and 40 percent were in unsheltered locations. Just under 8 percent (4,456) were female.

Alcohol and drugs.  Cigarettes and anything else you can smoke.  Panhandlers everywhere.  There's an increase, it seems to me.  Unemployment and people giving up explains a lot of the turning to something, anything, that helps deal with what seems like a hopeless reality.

"If multiple groups feed at a given park or area, homeless people tend to congregate in that area, and not leave, effectively confiscating it and turning it into a campground that other citizens can't use."

Good. Maybe that will be an incentive for you to fix the problem, instead of sweeping it under the rug.

Drug Addiction is a symptom of Mental Illness as they are self medicating. (I call the self medicators, "Doctor".)

While I will agree that some of the homeless are "criminal" and "fugitives from justice" in many cases that is not true. Many do have warrants for "illegal camping", "Disturbing the Peace", "Drunk in Public", and a slew of "Nuisance Crimes" that the Police are so happy to charge them with. However they work to make homelessness, itself, the crime under the nuisance laws.

The truth is that most chronically homeless are mentally ill as no person, in thier right mind, chooses to be chronically homeless.

Oh I have helped the homeless. But my help is NOT ENABLING. I offer them WORK. Most do not want to work. The last guy, who turned out as a petty thief piece of crap was so full of excuses for not working it was sad. "It is too hot", "I was in jail.", "Something came up.", "I can't because it will affect my disability. (Funny. How is $10/Hour under the table going to do that?), "I have PTSD." etc.

Work, or the willingness to work, provides them with DIGNITY.

On the other hand I will sometimes pay them a "Troll Tax" as many will look out for you as they do not want thier "meal ticket" screwed with.

Hopefully you are being treated for your own mental illness as you were chronically homeless in LA. While currently you may be in remission, the disease can still reappear and cause you more trouble, wreak havoc in your life. There is no cure for mental illness.

In the winter they can sleep in old gyms, get food from local supermarkets that distribute their stuff instead of throwing it away. Social workers talk to them and make them feel like human beings. In England they get on the dole; become heroin addicts and crash in un-occupied dwellings; and it's a lifestyle; and it's intentional. and that's not a rant or a fairy tale. It's good to become a Heroin addict, because then you're "officially sick" and all the state paid "helpers" help you to more free stuff. Even people who like heroin, become heroiin addicts, they even pretend to be heroid addicts. all this is real. What's the answer? Victorian WorkHouses. round em up and incarcerate them and make them work; very low recidivism; no motivation.

Fundraisers, campaign support, source and donate useful equipment.

Now I fear the police.

It got revealed a few weeks ago in little old Merced California that a few citizens that when to a county commissioner meeting had the sheriff do background investigations for them merely addressing elected officials in a public forum.  How long has that been going on?

That IS a police state folks.

It's these crazy stories of police abuse and wonton harassment that led me to cut support for this segment of the Deep State.

Between the militarization of local police, the emphasis on hiring PTSD combat vets to patrol neighbors and local government searching for every method to tax, harass and otherwise attack the local gentry that I just can't support what is going on.

This is the direction of local governments. They seek more and more absolute control over what citizens are allowed to do. You need THEIR permission to do most anything. Here in this small northwoods town of 3,000 people, any citizen with a tree on their property that they seek to trim or cut down, must call city hall and get an inspector to come out and approve the trim or cut down. A fine is imposed for anyone touching their trees without clearing it with the city hall. Oh! There is much more, but this is one example. On the Federal level, we know our government does not allow any computer use, email, phone call, google search etc. without allowing government full access to every key stroke. This is called keeping us safe, which is a fucking lie. It really means, every citizen must now take care in what they think or do, as government is watching and the police state can at any moment choose to use that information to round up the citizens who show lack of loyalty to neo-con war mongers and neo-liberal 1% 'er money printers.

This is what government has become. The VA is not a place to treat veterans, it is now a place to provide high paying, low stress administrative jobs for government employees. Bonuses for making veterans wait. The record funding voted for the VA has resulted in lack of care, but hundreds of new high paying administratiove jobs, with bonuses and early retirements. The system is fucked, yet voting has no effect.

Pure religion is to care for the widows and orphans in their affliction... absolute evil is the idea of outlawing it.  "For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me" - Matthew 25:35  There is no clearer command for the believer in Scriptures than this.

To my Christian brothers in Florida - you should be lined up handing out food and willing to be arrested and jailed in protest - that would end this nonsense.  Whose law are you more afraid of - God's or man's?

I can understand the desire to minimize the impact destitute people make when compassionate people create a pattern of behavior that seems to encourage a greater participation and reliance on their generosity.  It's no different than this administration’s efforts, and in fact is but a microcosm of it.

I find it incredibly ironic the late Walt Disney's favorite song was "Feed the Birds" from Mary Poppins (and the demise of "Mr. Banks") given what the Disney empire has developed into, especially around the Orlando area.  Dealing with pigeon crap is the least of the worries their headlong race into "profit" has left in its wake.

This isn't about denying charity to the homeless, its about protecting the state funded and controlled non-profit industry.

GW Bush's "faith based charities" program was designed to pervert religious institutions into promoting state political policy, specifically mass immigration.

Faith based charities  was a firehose of cash to local groups to support mass immigration, that was the hook, "we give you cash you support our agenda, you owe us".

independent charity displaces state control.

From  http://hushmoney.org/501c3-problems.htm

When a church accepts the 501c3 status, that church:

  • Waives its freedom of speech.
  • Waives its freedom of religion.
  • Waives its right to influence legislators and the legislation they craft.
  • Waives its constitutionally guaranteed rights.
  • Is no longer free to speak to the vital issues of the day.
  • Becomes controlled by a spirit of fear that if it doesn’t toe the line with the IRS it will lose its tax-exempt status.
  • Becomes a State-Church.

The church in America today is, by and large, not speaking to the vital issues of the day. The church has been effectively silenced.

In theory, yes. But I know of many churches that continue doing all the above with ( so far), no loss of that status. I also know of one (so far) that lost that status for not obeying it. In general, there has been a lack of enforcement - so far.

I speak from experience, and they will ride tax exempt status until they are forced off of it. All bark, little bite - so far.

But I am certain that will change.

They will reject those in poverty and those who starve as they practice every kind of self-interest and commit the sin of gluttony.

These days are upon you children. As the human race wanders helplessly, in confusion, where nothing satisfies, they will grasp at anything which they believe will fill the void. This void exists because they do not follow the Truth or pay allegiance to my beloved Son."

Without the mark of the beast no one can buy or sell. Is this just another step towards the ultimate control of citizens?

When people are fined for feeding the homeless, you know something's in the wind.

When a rancher is fined for taking a dozen homeless people to his ranch to live, you know something's in the wind.

When the police either shoot or beat to death street people and walk away from it free, then you know something's in the wind.

Rumours (only rumours right now) that FEMA is rounding up homeless people to put them in FEMA camps, you know something's in the wind.

Rumours (only rumours right now) that in order to get Obamacare you'll need an implanted chip. This will mean that without that chip you get no medical care (I'm sure the treatment of people without the chip, even for cash, will be made a crime). The next step will be using the chip for everything else such as buying and selling and ID such as driver's licence and opening up a bank account.

These are the first steps towards complete control of society by the Luciferians.

The 'american' middle class is cleaning houses.
This time, it is on a town level. So the tale of the federal government conjuring anything up and down does not work.

'Americans' run a business of extorting the weak, farming the poor. And the 'american' middle class excell at it.

Running a business of extorting the weak, farming the poor goes as far as the weak has value to be extorted, the poor to be farmed.

Usually, when an extorted or a weak has no longer value, the extorter/farmer deals with that case by simply dropping out the weak/farmed so that they die of attrition. It costs nothing.

Seems that once again, by common ways of actions, 'american' nature is exposed.
No cause for them to behave differently from common extorters/farmers as 'americans' are extorters and farmers.

They deal with issues the way extorters/farmers do.
