Ukraine Considers Declaring Martial Law In Donetsk, Luhansk

Tyler Durden's picture

As the bloody violence drifts off the mainstream media's headlines in the US - but escalates on the ground - it appears the situation has grown serious enough to prompt further intervention in the separatist-held south and east regions:

  • *UKRAINE CONSIDERS DECLARING MARTIAL LAW IN DONETSK, LUHANSK
  • *ACTING PRES. TURCHYNOV ISSUES ORDER ON STUDYING MARTIAL LAW

We suspect, following the over-running in Donetsk today that these actions will awaken Putin from his recent slumber... making this week's D-Day celebrations even more tense.

Minor distinctions, for what it's worth (which may be nothing).

US North did not overthrow the government (which technically is allowed under the Purpose of US Constitution - Declaration of Independence).

Ukraine's North overthrew the Gov, which technically is not allowed by Ukraniane Constitution.

The USA wants him dragged into a long term conflict on his doorstep that could destabilize his country if they get fed up with being in a long drawn out war.  The intention of the west is to destroy Russia economically (nuclear they can't without repercussions).  Why play into their gameplan.  Most of the success lies in picking your field of battle.  So why should Putin fight on their terms.  He can wait and do battle on his terms.  If he heats up the conflict even more than it already is there will be many more dead than now.  He can give them aid and let the USA and its coup goons make themselves look like the Evil IMF Goons they are.  It is a lesson for the world and it can only strengthen the Russians if they dont play the game the USA wants to play.

Eventually the little kids on the playground get fed up with the bully and unite to kick his ass.  When that happens the dollar is gone.  Putin just has to let the world see and get fed up with the bullying of the USA.

The US war industry needs a new enemy. Al Cia-da just isn't dangerous enough to keep people in fear. Americans don't see Syria or Iran as a real threat.

They can't depend on CNN and Fox News to sow panic anymore because nobody listens to them.

For some reason, they don't have the courage to stage another 911. I wonder why. They just stage these wimpy little false flags like Boston and Sandy Hook.

They've chosen Russia and China as the new enemies. Putin has to keep from responding to their provocations or he falls into their little trap.

When you have military aircraft firing on armed and unarmed citizenry, I think declaring martial law is more of a semantic point than anything.

As for the news drifting out of the mainstream - when your team, a trained regular force with mixed motivation funded by the IMF, is snatching defeat from the jaws of victory it is an unwelcome story.

Well, you have to admit, the Ukrainians have done a terrible job with this civil war - the story line's incoherent, the characters are thinly developed at best - bizarre cartoon caricatures at worst, and really the whole plot's just been dragging for quite some time.  I mean, the whole opening episode with the Crimea was compelling and it looked like it was going to be a barn-burner, but it's really fallen apart since then.  No wonder the media's dropped it.

That is the biggest mistery indeed. Had the independent regions received immediate support, more would be inclined to follow in their footsteps. Instead Putin urged Donetsk and Luhansk to postpone their referendums. Maybe he's taking it slow. Maybe the naval port was of primary interest and less value was seen in other regions. Maybe he want to maintain the buffer zone without risking unnecessary exposure.

When Stalin was pushing Nazi forces back west in WW2, he paused at Polish and Romanian borders. He knew that both countries harbored local Nazi collaborators and wanted the local militia and partisans to thin out their numbers. Many enouraging radio broadcasts were sent, yet no support action was taken.

As long as the separatists are putting up a meaningful resistance, Putin can wait, gathering his case. The information war is already won, as indicated by the total media blackout in the West. The new acting president as well as the interim one have war crimes on their hand worthy of a tribunal. What else does Russia need in order to advance?

Maybe they're waiting for winter. That's when things will get real interesting. Maybe he plans on delivering the final blow without firing a single weapon by switching off oil and gas. I quite honestly don't know what the strategy is. I was expecting a Georgian scenario, but it hasn't taken place.

It would also be a costly move on the Russian Federation, just the finanicals would be worrisome for anyone building forces on other borders like Syria and the ME in general.  Can the USA realistically fight on multiple fronts, today I doubt it and the sames goes for Russia, certainly.

Finanicals are at the heart of holding back for sure, if someone owed you 2,000,000,000,000+ US$ in backdated fuel allocation, invading them is the easyiest way to wipe that debt slate clean as they'll use it right away as an excuse to not pay a tyrant.

Only real outcome I see is a long drawn out Proxy war.  Here in the UK, my local military base has been so busy since April, even as I write this; a Chinook is flying over with some serious looking hardware.  They've been training with lots of chopper flights at night and I guess soon enough Euroland will be awoken in need no doubt and those guys will be off to defend something, not sure what as from those pictures I've seen in Donetsk, they're to late...

Could definitely be about money. Look at what $5bn bought the CIA - a country out of control. What does the $17bn IMF loan buy? Nothin. Few more months of gas with funds going straight to Russia.

The lessons of Afghanistan and Chechnya must still be friesh in Russian memory. The first one contrinuted greatly to the USSR insolvency. The 2nd one proved that just like in US - Korean conflict, it made more sense to conquer the land economically. Russia and Chechnya are on speaking terms 10 years after the war. With Afghanistan 25 years later - not so much.

The West will be more cooperative when the cold weather hits. That's why it is important for them, as well as for Kiev to act now... yet what can they do realistically?

Sending aged equipment to be shot down by the poorly armed separatists for pennies on the dollar? Sure, the casualties are significant on both sides, but if viewed strictly in terms of spending, Ukrane spends 1000:1 trying to control the Eastern territories. It is already bankrupt, relying solely on US and IMF handouts.

Georgian troops had all-American combat geat and even then they were squashed within a week. If the same gear (of which there is some) makes it to the front lines, the Western strategy will be irreversibly exposed. So they keep sending the last remaining piles of junk.

There are British tanks on the ground. There is Lithuanian UAV support, but both are forced to stay far away from the action. All the West can do is train Ukrainians for suicide missions. The Neo-nazi's got beheaded shortly after the coup and now they're raging out of control, attacking pro-Russians and pro-Westerners alike. I have friends living north of Kherson and almost on the border near Lviv. They are afraid - afraid of the instability that they recall was last present in the early 90's. They don't even say which side they're afraid of. It's just not safe with all the thugs running around.

The joke going around is that another Maidan or two and whole of Ukraine with the exception of Kiev will beg for annexation. The capital is a very different place from the rest of Ukraine.

I thought a few weeks ago that maybe this whole thing was starting to settle and a major war was avoidable...

but it's looking like I was wrong.

first-

#NATO  has taken steps to enhance the defence of Allies following #Russia ’s illegal military intervention in #Ukraine . As part of the measures, NATO has deployed AWACS planes over Poland and Romania, sent ships on patrol to the Baltic and Mediterranean Seas, and deployed additional fighter jets to police the airspace over the Baltics.

then-

BRUSSELS -- NATO's top official says the alliance will finalize a package to reform and modernize Ukraine's armed forces following Russia's annexation of the ex-Soviet republic's Crimea territory.

NATO Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen made the announcement on June 3 following a meeting of defense ministers from NATO's 28 member countries in Brussels.

"In the weeks to come we will finalize a comprehensive package of long-term measures to make Ukraine's reforms more effective and its armed forces stronger," he said.

Rasmussen declined to give details about the measures under consideration, but said he was encouraged that in addition to NATO assistance, individual members of the alliance have volunteered advisory and technical assistance, as well as material support, to Ukraine.

also-

U.S. President Barack Obama says the United States plans to bolster its military presence in Europe by sending in more troops and equipment.

At a joint news conference in Warsaw with Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski, Obama added that he was calling on the U.S. Congress to provide up to $1 billion to support the effort.

The move comes amid concern among NATO's Eastern European members in the wake of Russia's threatening moves in Ukraine.

Russia's response?

another large scale war drill in the west and this time they are rolling the Iskander nuclear capable missile systems to the Polish border...

looks like the last few weeks were really just the calm before the storm, the deep breath breath before the final plunge.

at the very least Washington and NATO seem determined to push Putin to the point where he has no choice but to strike first. in which case the resulting war could be billed as "reactionary" and "defensive" and sold to the public as such, you know "we didn't ask for this" type of thing much like WW2. of course, Russian military doctrine supports a nuclear first strike in such situations and Washington knows this, but hey if you have to burn a few million serfs in the pursuit of greater geopolitical ambitions so be it.

it's not like they haven't done it before.

hedge accordingly.

I agree entirely Marcusfenix. This isn't going away. Why waste a good opportunity for war???

I feel for the Ukrainians as they think they are fighting for their homeland and freedom (some of them are I know) who, are just normal people who have been forced into this war because of the US Hedgemony Corporation.

Putin in my mind seems damned if he does and damn if he doesn't which, if I'm correct makes it a VERY dangerous situation.

Option #1 Does he nip this in the bud and take over the Ukraine up to the Dneiper River?? What is really in it for him if he does that?? Not much that I can see. He will set off WW3 and be painted as the aggressor who started the whole oncoming war. Maybe??? this move could work as some type of buffer for his military and country in general by using the captured land as a defensive zone of some sort but, I am not savvy enough to know that.

Option #2 He does nothing! If he chooses this option he is giving the US and NATO all the time they need to build up their forces and time to work on strategy. If he chooses this option in time he will look weak maybe to his own people and politically lose support. As well, if NATO does instigate a "Bay of Tonkin' like event and NATO make the "Honourable Move of Regrettable War with Russia" what option will he have left but Nukes?? None! as I see it.

I am just a pleb but I feel that with modern weapon systems and a never ending US Dollar the longer he waits he is damned and if he acts aggressively he is damned.

The only other option maybe? is to fight a guerilla war in Ukraine which may keep the NATO Hyena's at bay but cause him and his people untold and never ending pain.

I see the US/NATO holding all the cards. They are all Hearts Kings Queens Jacks and Aces plus a few up the sleeve. They own the media hence the commentary, they own time at this point anyway and, they are all planning a vicious act of treason against all humanity but, they are also driving this whole thing.

Putin, in my mind can't win in any way. But, I hope I'm wrong and, I hope Putin isn't pushed in to a corner where he feels that Nuclear weapons are his only real option.

They are running out of time, and if Putin was prune to 'nip it in the bud', he would have acted in Kiev long ago. If he wants to draw in NATO into exposing themselves completely, he merely sits back and waits... it takes most people alot of catalyst to realize the mess they're in and react as 'guided' by self-interest against those seeking to take them back to the 'good ole days' of being peons. At this point, Putin has to allow those people enough time to feel the pain, allow Kiev/NATO to force feed them with BS and anal probes until they squirm like the Russians did in the 90s. Putin knows how to utilize the silent persuaders if he so chooses to release some of the pressure in the cooker at times. I would be suprised if there weren't some free lance types leading a helping hand currently in the East and in the not so distant future, Kiev itself, just in time to welcome in the new oligarch of NATO's choice. In short, bleed them dry. This is what the USofA has done countless times in its history, recently in Iraq and elsewhere with their black op agents of chaos, Al CIAda and its many friends on the false flag front of global domination. Time is running out. Hard to get an exact fix on that date, was hoping for this year, but it seems I was a bit greedy and next year, the end of the cycle, will have to do.

Chaos isn't only man-made, Big Momma has a cyclical cleanup crew ready and always willing to do what's necessary.

Against this background, the Americans easily force the signing of their version of the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership, a trade pact, which turns the EU into an appendage of the U.S. economy. Negotiations about the treaty are going on right now and, for the Americans, the entry of Russian troops in Ukraine would be a huge gift. Sanctions against Russia would destroy European business and trade barriers with the U.S. would finish it. What we have at the end: EU in a state as if after a war; the United States, all in white, joyfully absorbing European markets on which they have not and will not have competitors; the Russian Federation - not in the best shape. Does it seem to anyone that someone in this situation is the fool (???), and that that someone is clearly not the U.S.? By the way, it is not necessary to take into account the arguments to the effect that European politicians would not allow economic suicide. Euro-bureaucrats are not capable even of this, as practice shows.

Bombshell from the Saker:

"Very interesting admission by a senior US diplomat: Russia "betrayed" the NWO"

http://vineyardsaker.blogspot.com.au/2014/06/very-interesting-admission-...

It has been my point all along that Putin is a pimple on the ass of the NWO globalists. That's why George Soros writes articles demonising him and all the Zionist media is on the "get Putin" campaign.
