Iraq Gives Obama Green Light To Commence "Kinetic Support" Against Al Qaeda

Tyler Durden's picture

It appears that the best diversion from Obama's latest bevy of scandals, including the VA snafu and the Bergdahl fiasco, will be yet another war, one which Iraq just gave the green light for. As the WSJ reported moments ago, Iraq has privately signaled to the Obama administration that it would allow the U.S. to conduct airstrikes with drones or manned aircraft against al Qaeda militant targets on Iraqi territory, senior U.S. officials said Wednesday.

The Obama administration is considering a number of options, including the possibility of providing "kinetic support" for the Iraqi military fighting al Qaeda rebels who seized two major cities north of Baghdad this week, according to a senior U.S. official who added that no decisions have been made.

Officials declined to say whether the U.S. would consider conducting airstrikes with drones or manned aircraft.

Wait, so the US is now the world's largest mercenary army, doing the bidding of defenseless, third-world governments (which just happen to be drowning in crude)?

Iraq has long asked the U.S. to provide it with drones that could be used in such strikes, but Washington has balked at supplying them, officials said.

Until now.

And just like that the war in Iraq, "Bush's war" according to so many, is about to come back with a vengeance this time under Nobel peace prize winning president, and what makes it most grotesque is that this time the US will be waging combat with at a military force that it itself is training and arming in neighboring Syria.

Which of course is good news for the military-industiral complex and US Q3 GDP, if not so good for millions of innocent civilians soon to be known as "collateral damage."

So let's get this straight...

The Pentagon wants to neutralize some troublemakers in Iraq with a few drones, something that just a few years ago it couldn't accomplish with tens of thousands of infantry and billions worth of ground and air support equipment. At the same time (or was that soooo last year?), it supports the same troublemakers a few miles to the west in Syria.

"The nobility is kept under the tsar’s thumb by an endless flow of handouts paid for by taxing the peasantry. Foreign policy is conducted to benefit the bourgeoisie with the opening of new markets as its main objective, while customs policy puts the Russian consumer at the mercy of the manufacturers. Finally, even the domestic activity of the tsardom is in the service of capital: the organization of industrial expositions, the construction of the Siberian railroad, and other projects of a similar nature are all carried out with a view to advancing the interests of capitalism."        Rosa Luxemburg

My Dad, who was a Colonel for the coalition in Afghanistan, told me that the hardest part of fighting with these middle easterners is that they dont wear uniform's and that every guy has an ak47. You will know at the last minute if a person is a "friend" or a "foe".

They even celebrate with shooting in the air. One could buy an AK 47 with 30-100 $ in Afghanistan.

The US led coalition will be like targets if they will keep up the ground operation.

The USA can bring on the air strikes, many will die. But I doubt these will do much to return control of these cities and provinces to the Empire. Just as Ukraine is finding out, launching missiles onto crowded streets and litering them with smashed bodies does little to win control. The rocketed city still holds Kiev's gangs at bay. Iraq is another sink hole of money and material. But that will not stop the nobel peace prize winner. We might also seek advice from George Bush, after all, it was he who said this mission was accomplished.

We still consider attacking Syria

Attacking Iran is on the table

Russia has been warned and troops and Air Craft deployed to Eastern Europe to send Russia a threatening message.

The defense secretary recently warned China to stop it's actions at sea in the South China Seas, or America would respond.

North Korea is on notice. Afghanistan still occupied and Taliban operating right inside Kabul.

Where does the empire of the Neo-con crazies end? They are up to their necks with the recent Kiev Coup and military advance to punish the east. So far Obama's legions of Right Sector thugs have advanced a few meters forward, and been punished heavily by the defense. The Nobel Peace Prize winner is promising money and weapons for the Kiev coup leaders.

Now Iraq has blown up in Obama's face, Al-Qaeda has taken the money and weapons the US provides via NATO member Turkey and using some of it to conquer parts of Iraq, parts with OIL. Yes, OIL, now we know why the US Air Force is going to go into action.

I wouldn't be suprised if they try to send the troops back.

If SHTF stateside, Washington DC/Banksters don't want sympathetic military folk to overthrow them.

If they view the military as dangerous, they may want to ship they off to the other side of the world where they can't rebel against Washington/Bankers if the SHTF.

How many more American lives or further trillions of dollars in treasure must be sacrificed before the use of nuclear weapons is deemed prudent?

IMHO, nuclear weapons are not a deterrent unless People think they WILL be used to counter provocation or attack.

-And those weapons have cost the US Taxpayers a hell of a lot of money to build and maintain over the last 50 or so years.

"As it turns out, the war against ISIS is not what the establishment media in the West make it out to be. On Wednesday, Maarouf told The Independent the fight against al-Qaeda was “not our problem” and admitted the mercenaries he leads with U.S., Saudi and Qatari help conduct joint operations with Jabhat al-Nusra, seen as the de facto al-Qaeda branch in Syria. Maarouf told the newspaper he does not have a problem working with al-Qaeda so long as the objective is the ouster of the al-Assad government."

US Executive Hubris is out of control. They never finish things and don't go back and fix things. Not to get off track, but like ACA when Social Secuirty & Medicare needed fixing.

Iraq has oil well, pipelines, trucking, airports, seaports = all of these will need to be protected. Seems better to protect them at least from the air, before attacking Syria or Iran.

I tend to see foreign wars as a loss overall. We didn't get anything from the Vietnam War, except it forced us to develop a new scheme for funding future wars.

Europe & China want Oil from Iraq, they need to step up militarily or convince us to abandon Iraq. I hate what we did to Iraq. Maybe an Air War with covert forces & Mercenaries can win protection for the ports & oil & Trade.

Obviously it is a mess with Ukraine nearby almost.

I can just picture greedy psychos wringing their hands under a light in a dark room planning world domination.

Jack - I have believed for years that the purpose of the Iraq war was to put that region into perpetual chaos.  Iraq has at least the third largest source of crude oil.  The best way to keep it off of the market is to create unending war in the region.  Mission accomplished.

Benny NetanYahoo needs a free fire zone extending a few hundred miles in all directions.  Chaos also keeps the crude in the ground for collecting in the future.

Where does the empire of the Neo-con crazies end?

It ends where it ends and it ends when it ends. No one knows. But what is sure the end is a stream of blood.

1) Internal fights for the power

- Then option a) The NeoCons do loose their power, the truth come in full to the light. Then the masses have to be pleased by bringing the evil doers to "justice". Which means under present US conditions, death sentences after death sentences till the public opinion shifts and enough heads were rolling.

or option b) The present system makes the final step and  morphes into a full fledged Nazi terror system which means each wrong word can be the end. Just like in Germany during the last years of Nazi Germany. The Volksgerichtshof (Peoples Justice Court) alone was sentencing thousands of Germans to death (in average 10 death sentences per day during the last two years) . Often just for making a joke in the public or for example saying that the war is lost or reading or listening to "enemies propaganda". Of course to help or hide a Jew was clearly death sentence for all persons involved. Despite that hundreds or thousands of Jews were hidden by Germans.

Excerpt form Wikipedia about the Head Judge Robert Freisler:

"The number of death sentences rose sharply under Freisler's stewardship. Approximately 90% of all proceedings ended with sentences of death or life imprisonment, the sentences frequently having been determined before the trial. Between 1942 and 1945, more than 5,000 death sentences were handed out, and of these, 2,600 through the court's First Senate, which Freisler headed. Thus, Freisler alone was responsible, in his three years on the court, for as many death sentences as all other senate sessions of the court put together in the entire time the court existed, between 1934 and 1945.

Freisler was known for humiliating defendants and shouting at them. He was known to be an admirer of Andrei Vyshinsky, the chief prosecutor of the Soviet purge trials, and reportedly copied his demeanor.[10] A number of the trials for defendants in the 20 July Plot before the People's Court were filmed and recorded. In the 1944 trial against Ulrich Wilhelm Graf Schwerin von Schwanenfeld, for example, Freisler shouted so loudly that the technicians who were filming the proceeding had major problems making the defendant's words audible. Schwerin von Schwanenfeld, like many other defendants in the plot, was sentenced to death by hanging. Among this and other show trials, Freisler headed the 1943 proceedings against the members of the White Rose resistance group, and ordered many of its members to be executed by Fallbeil, a shorter German version of the French guillotine."

Besides the Volksgerichtshof there were plenty of other courts and "Special Courts" turning out death sentences by the 10 thousands. The Volksgerichtshof was only the "flagship court" for special propaganda purposes.

And the most notable  thing is that just a very few judges or state attornies (2 or 3 in Nuremberg and that was it)  committing all these crimes against the Germans were brought to "Justice" under the occupation of the Western Aliies.   Freisler died in a bomb raid but 99 % of his colleagues made a career in post war West Germany.

Sheehan's 2008 campaign against Pelosi went down in flames. Like the rest of the true-believer self-righteous anti-war marching morons, she found out the hard way that nearly the entire "anti-war" movement existed only to stoke anti-American hatred and bash Bush in order to put flaming far-left Communist-in-all-but-name Democrats in power, not end wars and bring peace.

As with all the other fools in that movement, the Democrats had long since used Sheehan up as their whore. The only difference is that she scraped the bowels of their party a bit harder than most while they were busy dumping and flushing her. She's got a bit of company in her useful-idiots-flushed-after-they-outlived-their-usefulness cadre, by the way: Keith Olbermann has also lost his seat in the media spotlight, and by the looks of things, Michael Moore will soon be joining them after his wife gets done reaming him in a very nasty divorce.

Yes, in numerous ways.

Obama just announced he was going to increase arms shipments and support of Al Qaeda rebels in Syria.  These happen to be the same Sunni jihadist's who just captured Mosul and Tkrit.  Brilliant.

So we're supporting the side we were fighting, and we're going to send in air support against the group we're supplying, which is fighting against the government in Iraq we set up.  Peace?

Thanks conscious being.

What I saw was an elected leader deposed by a court with a follow-on military coup.  From what I heard she was unpopular with the monied in Thailand because she increased subsidies to rural areas and rice growers.

I've never been to Thailand so perhaps I am uninformed.  It seemed reckless for a court to remove the Prime Minister and throw the nation into chaos.

From the outside it seemed it would have been better for them to have reprimanded her in some way, versus removing her from office, and allowing the election/political process versus the military junta to settle things.

However, as I said, I have not been there and am observing from the outside and from what I see on MHZ and other outlets.

Obama, however, is a complete dope; an arm of the M.I.C. and the banksters, a liar from day one and a charlatan.

I wish the people of Thailand the best, and hope they can return to order and a non-military rule and peace without Kleptocrats, Plutocrats, Oligarchs, and banksters running the show.

Come to think of it I wish the same for the People of the U.S., of Europe, of China, of...

No. No, they won't. The leftists will never abandon their Messiah over something so unimportant to them as a war. The only thing that could get them to abandon him would be if he were to swing as far to the right as he does to the left right now; as in, he'd have to be secretly ordering drone strikes on abortionists while having military engineers construct a huge wall across our entire southern border and coordinating with the IRS to have every leftist think tank and propaganda mill in academia given a severe audit.

I need to check my Russian sources, but if that is video released by the Self Defense Forces, then this is big news. I noted after the last phosphorus round went off, some tracer fire come in from the left. Since I can't read Russian, I am limited in my sources. I follow the "South Front" facebook page. They give daily summaries and videos. I think the white phosphorus is banned in cases like this. But Israel and the USA both use it, so Kiev is under the orders of Washington and Tel Aviv, so it makes sense those thugs would get these shells from the NATO and use them.
