Iraq Gives Obama Green Light To Commence "Kinetic Support" Against Al Qaeda

Tyler Durden's picture

It appears that the best diversion from Obama's latest bevy of scandals, including the VA snafu and the Bergdahl fiasco, will be yet another war, one which Iraq just gave the green light for. As the WSJ reported moments ago, Iraq has privately signaled to the Obama administration that it would allow the U.S. to conduct airstrikes with drones or manned aircraft against al Qaeda militant targets on Iraqi territory, senior U.S. officials said Wednesday.

The Obama administration is considering a number of options, including the possibility of providing "kinetic support" for the Iraqi military fighting al Qaeda rebels who seized two major cities north of Baghdad this week, according to a senior U.S. official who added that no decisions have been made.

Officials declined to say whether the U.S. would consider conducting airstrikes with drones or manned aircraft.

Wait, so the US is now the world's largest mercenary army, doing the bidding of defenseless, third-world governments (which just happen to be drowning in crude)?

Iraq has long asked the U.S. to provide it with drones that could be used in such strikes, but Washington has balked at supplying them, officials said.

Until now.

And just like that the war in Iraq, "Bush's war" according to so many, is about to come back with a vengeance this time under Nobel peace prize winning president, and what makes it most grotesque is that this time the US will be waging combat with at a military force that it itself is training and arming in neighboring Syria.

Which of course is good news for the military-industiral complex and US Q3 GDP, if not so good for millions of innocent civilians soon to be known as "collateral damage."

They want a war.  They've let themselves be convinced by krugman et al are right.  To save ourselves we need to start a war.

If it's that easy why doesn't Assad ask Russia to start bombing in Syria?

Seems to some sort of common theme here.

This is rich.

Somebody thinks these people are better off now under new corrupt governments than they were under the old corrupt governments and/or that there is no common theme here.

Will they find the WMD on this go around?

My Dad didn't fight in "Kinetic Support II", he fought in World War II. It's war, and any attempt to define it some other way is BS and lies. When we drone bomb another country, it's also a war.

COSMOS's picture

Yep the WMD will be ours, be it chemical weapons or depleted uranium.

Now?  It's been that way for quite a while - at least since Roosevelt inked the deal to provide support to the House of Saud in exchange for access to their oil.

The US invasion and occupation cost Washington close to a trillion dollars and the lives of more than 4,500 of its soldiers.

Mission Accomplished

So let's get this straight...

The Pentagon wants to neutralize some troublemakers in Iraq with a few drones, something that just a few years ago it couldn't accomplish with tens of thousands of infantry and billions worth of ground and air support equipment. At the same time (or was that soooo last year?), it supports the same troublemakers a few miles to the west in Syria.

This has been the goal all along... Undo everything the US has done in the middle east in the last 60 years, while at the same time flooding the US with illegals to overload the system... This fucker in the oval office has 2 more years to finish the job since no one in DC has the balls to stand up to him...

Gaius Frakkin' Baltar's picture

Undo what exactly? The USSA's foreign policy has been an epic failure in the ME for the past 60 years. Illegal immigration didn't start with this puppet either. What you're witnessing is a century of greed, corruption, cowardice, hubris, indifference, and idiocy all coming to a focal point.

you forgot global warming, peak water, peak oil, and an asteroid heading our way all coming to a focal point.

What the USA (+ it's coalition partners) is doing in the ME, is flooding EU with illegal immigrants. I dont think their rafts can take them over atlantic ocean yet.

Money doesn't matter.  These guys print money.  It's about staying in power.

"The nobility is kept under the tsar’s thumb by an endless flow of handouts paid for by taxing the peasantry. Foreign policy is conducted to benefit the bourgeoisie with the opening of new markets as its main objective, while customs policy puts the Russian consumer at the mercy of the manufacturers. Finally, even the domestic activity of the tsardom is in the service of capital: the organization of industrial expositions, the construction of the Siberian railroad, and other projects of a similar nature are all carried out with a view to advancing the interests of capitalism."        Rosa Luxemburg

While Iraq is a worry, Russia best had become a major level of deep concern. They are giving the big fat hairy bear finger to Obama near Barbara Boxer and Pelosi's back yard:

Cold War II Cranks up as 2 TU-95 Bear Bombers Intercepted 50 miles from Northern California

Lore's picture

Actually, the incursion doesn't bother me one bit. It's actually quite amusing, thinking how such a thing makes a jingoistic psychopathic warhawk tremble and piss himself, having his cage rattled and being reminded that he is not God.  The article doesn't say how much time it took to intercept...

"Obama would never let America suffer a fate worse than 9/11, right?"

Who really leads behind the scenes?  Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men?  THE POOTY POOT KNOWS.... BWAHAHAHAHAAAA...

johngaltfla's picture

The fact that they were 50 miles off the coast to intercept a turboprop tells us that the tards in the Pentagon had to wait for "higher ups" permission to intercept. Normally we would meet them at 250 nm off the coast....

What is funny is that Obama could care less if we were invaded from Canada, Mexico, EMP'd or nuked; as long as his Swiss, er, Qatari bank account remained intact.

johngaltfla's picture

At least it is not just the US putting up with this Cold War bullcrap; a Japanese aircraft got buzzed again yesterday also....

With respect, I submit that it's important not to separate Obama from the rest of the herd of compromised political puppets. "Obama" is hardly different in any meaningful way from "Bush."  Presidents, like kings and popes and other officials, are merely figureheads for long-lived, bloodthirsty, unaccountable, psychopathic Establishment.

Let the Russians come. Putin's occupational government can't be much worse than the three ring circus in DC.

Incubus's picture

Putin's looking out for himself and his own.  That's more than we can say about "American" leaders.

Don't have any illusions about what would happen here in the US if Russia ever gained control.  The upside to it is that the hood culture would be eradicated in short order.

My Dad, who was a Colonel for the coalition in Afghanistan, told me that the hardest part of fighting with these middle easterners is that they dont wear uniform's and that every guy has an ak47. You will know at the last minute if a person is a "friend" or a "foe".

They even celebrate with shooting in the air. One could buy an AK 47 with 30-100 $ in Afghanistan.

The US led coalition will be like targets if they will keep up the ground operation.

SofaPapa's picture

"the hardest part of fighting with these middle easterners is that they dont wear uniform's and that every guy has an ak47."

My understanding of US history is that the British said much the same about the colonists during the US war for independence in the 1770s.  Replace an ak47 with a musket, and this story sounds awfully familiar...
