Obama Responds To Iraq Request For "Kinetic Support", Says Ready To Take Military Action

Tyler Durden's picture

As we reported yesterday, Iraq, realizing it has neither the capacity nor the willingness to engage Al Qaeda's ISIS "spin off" did what every other oil-rich regime in such a situation does: asked Obama for "kinetic support." Moments ago Obama gave his response:

  • OBAMA SAYS "I DON'T RULE OUT ANYTHING" WHEN IT COMES TO HELPING IRAQ DEAL WITH INSURGENTS
  • OBAMA SAYS US HAS AN INTEREST IN MAKING SURE JIHADISTS DON'T GAIN A FOOTHOLD IN IRAQ
  • OBAMA SAYS THERE WILL BE SHORT-TERM IMMEDIATE ACTIONS THAT NEED TO BE DONE MILITARILY IN IRAQ, US OFFICIALS LOOKING AT ALL OPTIONS

And here is why, as we predicted yesterday when faced with not only but two brand new scandals, the VA farce and the Berghdal "extraction" fiasco, the most likely outcome is war:

  • OBAMA SAYS IRAQ `CLEARLY IS AN EMERGENCY SITUATION'
  • OBAMA ADMINISTRATION SAID NOT CONSIDERING GROUND TROOPS IN IRAQ
  • OBAMA SAYS US IS PREPARED TO TAKE MILITARY ACTION WHEN ITS NATIONAL SECURITY INTERESTS ARE THREATENED

So the US is about to unleash hell against the same Al Qaeda extremists it was arming across the border in Syria? Score one more for US foreign policy. Meanwhile, the one person who benefits the most from rising crude prices, that would be Putin for those who still don't get it, is laughing all the way to the bank.

Update: good news - the US won't be fighting Iraq's war alone. Here comes.... France:

  • 'FRANCE'S FABIUS SAYS INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY MUST DEAL WITH IRAQ SITUATION URGENTLY
  • FRANCE'S FABIUS SAYS JIHADIST SURGE PUTS TERRITORIAL UNITY OF IRAQ IN DOUBT AND IS MAJOR RISK FOR REGIONAL STABILITY
  • FRANCE'S FABIUS SAYS INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY MUST DEAL WITH IRAQ SITUATION URGENTLY

Funny how France is so generous when pledging the aid of the international community and not, for example, that of France.

Apparently there was complicity with sympathetic sunni military officers in this case which to me means it is being blown out of context very likely, or being done as some sort of show to advance the boogeyman status of ISIS and therefore minimize what they call al-quaeda. It is mind bending.

As for that french fuck fabius speaking, he has been one of the most virulent supporters of ousting assad, therefore he has supported ISIS's rise to power in Syria. It's funny to watch these fucks panic when their experiment goes awry. Turkey declared a need for an emergency nato meeting yesterday after a bunch of turks in mosul got kidnapped, yet Turkish Military intelligence has been running terrorists since the war started and before.

Sow the wind and reap the whrilwind you criminal fucks.

"It's funny to watch these fucks panic when their experiment goes awry."

I think your prior comment "It is mind bending." is dead on. Until the picture becomes much clearer we need to remember that ISIS funding came originally from Saudi and Qatar and much of the weaponry directly and indirectly came from the U.S.

Including those shiny new Mosul attack helicopters and $400 million in cash and gold.

Now if those helicopters are used against Assad we should ask just where in the world those terrorist pilots were trained...

In the immortal words of Admiral Ackbar: IT'S A TRAP!

The shi'ite Maliki government asking the US to intervene on their behalf against a sunni miltant group (funded by the Saudis and Qataris). No downside there!

The question that needs to be asked is why isn't Iraq asking their new best buddies (and fellow shi'ites) the Iranians for air support? Or the Syrians for that matter? They could team up and crush ISIS. Could it possibly be they want to widen the divide between the US and their traditonal Sunni allies in the gulf. Christ, it's like no one in the National Security Council has a basic understanding of Islamic geo-politics.

We are arming and supporting the Islamists in Syria. We have established training camps for Al Qaeda in Jordan, Libya, the Sinai desert, and Turkey to assure constant flow of Islamist killing machine.

Iraq's leaders will be sorry to ask us to bomb their enemy the Al Qaeda? We may end up bombing the other side, and say oops! Sh't happens! Our Islamist thugs are currently fighting our formal armed military in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq, and Egypt. How crazy this picture? We helped Pakistan/Egypt/Iraq military become very powerful, then, our neocon goons advised us to do "CREATIVE CHAOS"? Set the place on fire along the sectarian line? Saudi / The obvious good foreign policy for America is to cooperate with all nations against Islamic terror. However, that can only happen if the US has leaders that cares about its interest? For decades now, America has elected leaders that works on Saudi/Israeli agenda.

The ignorant unwashed don't know, prevented from knowing, and don't want to know. Hence the presstitudes are in bed with foreign agents who run Washington. Washington is an occupied territory, and its trillion dollar defense work to defend others. As long as there is no free media, the foreign powers will keep running Washington, as the sheeple sleep. Saudi /Qatari money is flowing to feed that fire to exterminate Christianity in the ME! Somehow, our Muslim president is happy with that scheme, as well as his predecessor "Christian Bush"! Forget about the stupid 300 million sheeple, who got no way of knowing this because of our disinformation and lies from the mainstream press.

i'm sorry but you should add the Sunni, Shia and Kurdish qualifiers to your statement regarding which groups are where and which are being supported (officialy and unofficially).  the Shia gov't in Bagdad is falling againt the Sunni ISIS. the Kurds beat back ISIS in Kirkut and will carve their own territory.  Iran ca't let any of this happen.  Iran supports the Shia and don't want more trouble from their Kurds (Turkey has the same concern about the Kurds).  i think that this one has the potential to spread quickly into the full blown partition of Iraq.  the US is limp and only can provide some air support.  the real sparks will be between KSA and Iran over the southern partition.  KSA wants pipelines.

this is about the war to cause permanent chaos and civil war in Syria.

the neocains failed in their first attempt to get a war against Assad and this is the second attempt

step 1) get their AQ allies in Syria to attack Iraq

step 2) get request from Iraq government for US warplanes

step 3) use those warplanes against Assad

They took our money, arms, training, etc., told us all the Wet Dream stuff we wanted to hear -- to justify our budgets and careers -- and then told us to FOAD.  How ironic.  But I guess our Banksters in Hew York knew this all along, and planned/sponsored accordingly.

When will the US taxpayers do the same?  When will Sheepmericans protest, or let the guillotines roll?

Give 0zer0 a break. He just learned about Civil War in Iraq when he saw it on CNN. He has now given his "I am outraged at this tragedy unfolding on tv" speech. Next he will form a commission headed by Joe Bite Me to study the problem. Followed by a speech about establishing Red Lines. By the time 0zer0 gets his red crayons out, Iran will have thousands of Republican Guard Troops entrenched in Southern Iraq. Soon after, the US Embassy in Baghdad will be aflame, US diplomats will be taken prisoner, sodomized, have their heads cut off and their livers eaten. 0zer0 will blame the entire mess on a Bush video, and then go play golf and attend mulitple fundraisers. Within a month, Iraq will be well on the way to being partioned into Shia-Iran Southeast, Kurd North, and Sunni West. The ultimate goal being to use all those captured US heavy weapons and aircraft for the Sunni West Insurgents to turn and destroy Assad. Saudi Arabia and the West is going All-In on getting those pipelines through Syria to Southern Europe in a bid to Neutralize Putin and his Ukraine gambit.

Although, the Chinese view of things is much better than ours.  They let America spend a ton of cash, bombing the people we just got done spending a decade bombing -- then after we've pissed off essentially everyone, they come in, hand out some MREs, rebuild spending a TON LESS than we did bombing, and they make friends.

This is beyond comprehension. So now when the President places troops BACK INTO IRAQ with liberals finally understand how farcical this is and what puppet figureheads these people are?

No the response will be that "Bush did such a poor job in managing the first illegal war that the President needed to go in and repair it"

So we went in around 2003 because they were afraid of links to Al Queda..there were no links to Al Queda..so we toppled their government..murdered millions of innocent civilians and have a genration of Iraqis who were born into knowing nothing but war and death from the "GREAT LIBERTY BRINGING AMERICAN NATION" and all their peace bombs that have wiped out their families.

Now we have Al Queda in the nation...potentially the same Al Queda faction growing throughout the Middle East that we have been giving funds and arms to in Syria to attempt to topple their government and have spent the past decade doing nothing but aggresively killing Middle Easterners and giving them a common goal to unit against which is the foreign invading empire of the EU/US coalition and incentive to exact even more revenge.

Now we have the true definition of blowback by creating the the very thing that went in to exterminate and did not exist in the first place.

This is nothing more than the need to feed the war machine arms beast..they could not go into Syria, they could not go into Iran because Russia has their back along with China, Could not go into Ukraine..Libya is over and done with with horrific results...SO BACK TO THE CLASSICS...BACK TO IRAQ.

Gotta keep McDonnell Douglas, Grumman, Boeing and all the other death merchants in Taxpayer loot...and it is no longer paying off with resources because they could not achieve all their other manufactured false wars they made an attempt at..death throws of a dying paper tiger.

AND ALL THIS IN THE NAME OF FREEDOM AND PROTECTING OUR LIBERTIES WHILE OUR FAMILIES AND CHILDREN ARE TREATED LIKE ANIMALS AT THEIR AIRPORT IN AN INTERMENT CAMP TO PREVENT TERRORISM..MEANWHILE THE BORDER IS OPEN TO ANYONE ON THE MEXICAN BORDER AND WE ARE DRIVING THEM IN AND FEEDING AND CLOTHING..

What is wrong with this picture here..Would Al Queda not just dress as Pablo Sanches and walk in from Tijuana if they wanted to get into this nation??

Get the fuck on the ball media..oh wait..your mission is to just keep the American zombies watching Kim Kardhashian..Iggy and worrying about manufactured Rascism. When this market collapses...AINT NOTHING GONNA SAY US..

agreed - I took off the ole headphones to read this seriously, as it were...  good stuff.  The thing is we went full retard years ago... the American public seems to be like the proverbial frog int he frying pan - I dunno if its too much sugar, fluoride, or Justin Bieber, but few give a fuck about the shit show.  In fact, most of those left and right who give a fuck about anything really just want more free shit or coercion from the federal government...  "free health care" or keep fags from getting abortions...

Pessimism is unfairly derided, I think.

Once you accept that things are hopeless, you have the fresh feeling that comes from not bullshitting yourself.

I've always wondered why this terrifying force has never unleashed even a primitive bomb campaign on American malls or Starbucks.   It's not as if they couldn't get their hands on dynamite or even simple pipe bombs and, as you point out, there is ZERO stopping them from feeding cadres of suicide bombers into the US via Obama's own forced entry of illegals for political purposes.

Events are truly unfolding at every increasing speeds.  How long can the financial and credit markets continue gliding along glibly?

I figure whatever Obama and his "team" decide to do will make matters worse.  That's pretty much guaranteed.  Once a situation deteriorates like this one has, it ain't getting fixed.  When your national army dumps its uniforms and runs you're pretty much finished.   Some drone strikes aren't going to change that.  He's not going to send troops and what would they do anyway?  Secure Baghdad?

The ISIS guys have been slowly staking out territory for many many months in Iraq.  They have been slow, patient and methodical.  It's not as if they just showed up yesterday and took over Mosul.

At the same time, Obama is sending sophisticated military hardware to the same crowd in Syria.  That's easily moved around.  Any equipment sent to the Iraqi army, stuff that might make a difference, could easily fall into ISIS hands as well.

No good choices, so any choice will be bad.

This is the most confused, chaotic and disorderly series of events I have ever seen in following politics and international news in 50 + years. I cannot begin to think of a policy that could lead the USA to miss these events. How did we not know that the guys we were trying to arm were about to invade Iraq? I do not belive it is possible. Why would we now not aid Iraq?

I sense duplicity and betrayal. I have to suspect that some US force is behind this...that or utter incompetence.

Tell me how satellite imagery did not detect thousands of troops moving. We can tell when the Russians back off the border with Ukraine and we can't tell when AlQ is moving?

Why do we even pay for intellegence? Why do we pay Congress. Congress has completely abdicated all responsibility and has allowed the CIA or executive branch to run wild. Americas is falling apart.

Open borders, chaos in a world we pretend to control...Obama sits tight. Congress is all scared of what the NSA knows about them. What a mess.

The only thing that makes sense it they want Iraq to implode and disintegrate, and get carved up into 3 countries. Kurd North, Shia South, and Sunni West. All 3 groups get huge caches of heavy USSA weapons. Iran is strengthened, which completely neutralizes Israel from ever starting any conflict with them. This also keeps Russia and China happy. The Sunni radicals can then use the heavy weapons to take out Assad and eventually control Lebanon and Jordan. This opens up the pipeline through Syria into Turkey and Southern Europe, which provides a counterweight to Russia Ukraine fiasco. Finally, Turkey. The Kurds control the vast oil riches in Iraq. and are strengthened which provides leverage for the West over Turkey to toe the West line. If Turkey doesn't the West will encourage the Kurds to start a civil war in Turkey. Nato be damned. This is the redistribution of the Ottoman Empire 2.0.

"But, could be this is all intentional.  Start a few conflicts so they can finally flush the existing financial system down the toilet and reset the currency and/or watch the USD implode."

A cycle always completes itself.  As Mises noted, there is no preventing the final collapse of a debt fueled boom.

The day the U.S. became the world's only super power was the day of the beginning of the end.  Once ascended to the top of a mountain, the only direction is down.  With the ascendency of Russia and China, we are now a multipolar world again.  The U.S. is off the summit.

The world is in unrest, without anyone starting any conflicts.  China, Japan, Europe, the Middleast, the kids coming across the U.S. border from central America- look all around you.  Unrest.  The global depression is unfolding.

Also Obama has just stated that "doesn't rule anything out" does NOT include "boots on the ground" and is not being considered.

So what does that leave exactly?  Drone strikes, bombing campaign, cruise missiles?  But these ISIS guys are spread all over the desert.  Cruise missiles and bombing are good for hitting facilities not marauding bands of nomadic fighters.  I suppose he'll have to destroy those oil facilities in order to save them.
