US-NATO support to ISIS is channeled covertly through America’s staunchest allies: Qatar and Saudi Arabia. According to London’s Daily Express “They had money and arms supplied by Qatar and Saudi Arabia.”

the US has never had a counter insurgency strategy. their best idea is to arm the insurgents, give them uniforms, tanks, airplanes, and then defeat them on the battlefield. this is how in Vietnam a small group of insurgents in the mekong delta was pushed into the arms of uncle Ho in North Vietnam, who was in turn encouraged to seek aid from the Russians. (we couldn't invade North Vietnam because we were certain they would seek aid from China, as they had in Korea) its hard to see ISIS functioning as an extension of the arm them to defeat them military strategy, they are mostly carrying AK47s and RPGs. when the North Vietnamese rolled into Saigon they were riding in tanks. their success was in remaining off the battle field, but it was also obvious by then that the outcome of the war had been settled, and there was no military action taken against them. one knows that airpower could be used against these ISIS rebels but will probably not. the decision has been made here, possibly at the direction of Iranian backed positions in or around Iraq. Iran has indicated they are willing to commit troops to prevent further violence in and around Baghdad. the Sunnis there have been under the thumb of their leader since Saddam. Americans are tired of this war, and have no real course now but to watch the rest of Iraq liberated. Malaki will remain as mayor of the Green Zone, and the oil fields down in the boot, the Basra oil fields, that could be the one place the US will make a stand. the Iran hawks will something to say, but if the takeover of Iraq goes peacefully, they have less excuse. that outcome, the Iranian takeover, gives the Iran hawks, the neocons new fuel to restart the war at a later date.
