US Amphibious Warship With 550 Marines Enters Persian Gulf

Tyler Durden's picture

Following the arrival of the US aircraft carrier CVN-77, the ironically named George H.W. Bush, in the Persian Gulf, another US warship, LPD-19, the USS Mesa Verde also entered the Persian Gulf moments ago.

Its cargo: some 550 US marines.

Mesa Verda has entered the Gulf to "provide the commander-in-chief additional options to protect American citizens and interests in Iraq, should he choose to use them." Pentagon Press Secretary Rear Adm. John Kirby said in a statement.

"USS Mesa Verde is capable of conducting a variety of quick reaction and crisis response operations. The ship carries a complement of MV-22 Osprey tilt-rotor aircraft." He said.

As CNN reported earlier, this comes after President Obama ruled out sending ground troops to the militant-assaulted country. The USS Mesa Verde is a San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock, a ship designed to carry an expeditionary force across the sea and deploy landing craft and helicopters.

Will the marines be offloaded in Iraq? Surely not: after all Obama, rushing to catch AF1 to Palm Spring last week said he didn’t intend to send ground troops to Iraq again, two years after pulling out American troops from the country. And Obama never lies about stuff like that.

He'll send them into Syria instead!

Close, 550 marines is force enough to cover an urgent retreat should that be necessary. And that's just years after State Department acquired and developed prime real estate piece in Baghdad, soon to be Al Qaeda worldwide headquarters.

knukles's picture

We have been treating them very well, so why not prime real-estate.

Just like the Romans' incessant battles against the northern tribes (Gaels, Celts, Goths, etc...)  Once they got a toe-hold in lands not-there-own, it was a constant drain on their man-power and resources.

Same here today.

What I want to know is - where are the war-protesters?  How long does our imperial hubris go on?

knukles's picture

The protesters were almost always predominantly the left of center types.
Gosh, can't be criticizing the Messiah who you Voted Twice for...  Would be bad form to look as if you're agreeing with the Tea Party and Libertarian types.

Cicero wrote widely of the Rot of Rome.
Fascinating reading in that just "the names were changed to protect the innocent"

Chossudovsky thinks the US is running or instigating this conflict. He thinks it's not odd at all that the US funded and trained ISIS. Stay tuned, I guess.

The USSA has military everywhere, and manuevers such as this are designed to intimidate and encourage an attack.  The FED's military is itchin' for a big, big war....  And never forget, Putin's bankers are part of the same club.  They bankers win, regardless of which nation loses...

Did you happen to miss the fact that OWS was ruthlessly crushed by Obama and his henchmen?

>> Would be bad form to look as if you're agreeing with the Tea Party

Help me out here, when did the Tea Party ever protest anything military?  Tea Party war protestors?  I must have missed it.

Take look into Ron Paul and you will find that answer.

I'm thinking the plan is more about covering up 'everything' with some heavy ordinance once the capital falls.  Trying to clean up every little thing that needs removed one by one is just too wasteful when one shock and awe event will serve so many additional purposes as well.

HardAssets's picture

Will the marines be ordered to attack 'our good Al Qaeda', 'bad Al Qaeda', or to protect the drug biz (ala poppy field guards) ?

Being a 'dumb stupid animals to be used as pawns for foreign policy' - Kissinger's words - today is do damned complicated.

Well....Obama was around 14 back then (born 1961) and too busy surfing porn on his iPhone to notice the carnage over in Vietnam.

Of course I'm not too sure exactly where he was born....but they sell iPhones to anybody so it didn't matter.

Feels very much the case now doesn't it - at least since the Ukrainian coup in February!

A slow march to War - which will certainly be upon us before the year is out - or perhaps just in time for the Centenary 'celebrations'!! (June 28, 1914).

Is Poroshenko lining himself up for a reprisal of the Archduke Franz Ferdinand role perhaps?

Kids will ask in future - why did we go to War to save the Chocolate King mum?

Because the President declared Chocolate the National Fruit.

Russia protecting Russians in a former Russian territory with a shared border is "naked aggression".

The US protecting Americans in a formerly US occupied war zone halfway around the globe is fuck...who knows,  "clothed aggression" ?

Well, if Bambam was 14 in 1975, and he was surfing porn on his iPhone, he's one fucking smart dude, because the Internet wasn't around until the 1990's, and the iPhone wasn't around until 2005.

Other than that, I agree with everything you say.

I was expecting a wedding picture with my first wife...

greatbeard's picture

>> a wedding picture

Funny shit.  I had one of those floating around (mine, not yours) for the 30  years since the divorce.  It finally went to hell out in the pole barn.  It was a great big 12X16 or some silly size.  God, the innocence of youth.  Funny thing is, I knew I was making a huge mistake but I got engaged to shut her the fuck up and keep the pussy rolling.  I figured in a year and a half were sure to split up.  Stupid me.  On the bright side, the marriage only lasted three years and I was never that stupid again.  I just broke up with a 24 year significant other and it was oh so simple.  She moved out, came back, packed her shit, I loaded it up in my 7X16, set her up in the new place, kiss good by, and it was over.  This time I kept my house, my bank account, and no double attorney's bills to pay.  Marriage, like most of you know, is a scam not to be repeated.

shovelhead's picture

You got far. Look up statute for time limit to file.

Most states recognize common law marriage after 5-7 years. Some of those then go for 50/50 split.

Men...Paying for vajayjay since... forever.

MachoMan's picture

It's always interesting to me when people of multiple failed marriages claim that the union itself is flawed, rather than face the reality of the common thread of each marriage.

greatbeard's picture

>> common thread

Hey, I never said I wasn't the problem.  Still, I see no reason to pay two attorneys to give half of what I own to some woman.  Why point the finger of blame?  Take your ball and move on.

MachoMan's picture

If you can accept your failures, then it makes perfect sense to avoid fees of all sorts, including attorneys (who are usually the only ones who win in the deal).  I would question why I wasn't more inclined towards self improvement and ensuring that I was no longer the common denominator in failed relationships, but to each his own.  If you're perfectly happy in shallow relationships, then power to you, but most people aren't.  You may find that life is better with more sound attachments.

PS, depending on your jurisdiction, you should only have to cough up half if she's been married to you throughout your entire earning career; what you bring to the marriage, as well as any gifts or inheritance, are likely your separate property, subject to the rules on commingling.  In short, depending on your situation, you may have the option of firewalling most of your assets from a prospective spouse without having the conversation of a prenup that will eventually ensure your divorce.
