US Current Account Gap Worst Since Q1 2012; Biggest Miss Since Lehman

Tyler Durden's picture

The US Current Account deficit was larger than any of the 40 'qualified' economists expected and missed expectations by the most since Q4 2008 (Lehman). Of course, this will be shrugged off as 'weather-related' but if weather can do as much damage as Lehman (sending the deficit back to the biggest levels since Q1 2012) then one has to wonder just how 'stable' this recovery is.

What is 'merica manufacturing again?  Aside from increasingly more financial "products" of mass destruction?

Fuck the paper-pushers, their "labor" (CTRL-P) is of no real value anyway...

Wishful thining.  Don't forget, we do still make cars, some even kill the same taxpayers that bailed out the company in the first place.

Now do people understand how important it is to let corporations FAIL!?!?

We still make cars (poorly) and then make sure to recall them after a few deaths.

You do. I do. We as a nation, however, have no clue why failing institutions need to have their backstop removed. Metaphors of movement a la Thomas Paine are all the rage these days: "progress", "forward", and the worst of all "growth."

The next crash will be big; want to take a guess as to how they are going to resolve it?

We manufacture food. What with getting God pissed and our mixing GMOs into the food stream we seem intent on losing that export as well.

Yes, that's my business, but it's still an energy-intensive process.  Take away the Haber Bosch process and you will see population drop in a hurry.   I have a hard time deciding on GMOs for several reasons. First, without GMOs, food would be considerable more expensive because of losses and waste.  Second, in most cases these are genes that were already in a plant somewhere.  Finally, humans are part of Nature and constantly evolving, how is this any different?

In any case, at the end of the day, some will eat and some will not.

Same as it ever was...

Exactly.  And why I buy from local farmers and process my own food.  At least I know what I am truly eating.

And for that we thank you.  You will need to do more as bankers will continue to claim ownership over land via fraudulent debt and usury, including the family farm.  Someday you may need to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with us and physically defend the real stewards of the land.  Be ready to do so, it will come, lest we are fed soylent green...

The local stuff is now pricing out the corporate stuff. Plus the customer service is really hitting the skids with all the kids who keep getting fired.

These are failing business models and it is they who need to start buying local as everyone stops buying at McDonlads and growing their own.

The money that should be saved by using GMO's is countered by the company that makes it charging more.  There is no win except for in the boardroom.

Bullshit.  A fucking monkey can be taught how to use a shuttle vector to introduce genes into a seedling.  it isn't expensive technology.   However, it does result in a significant increase in yield.  500% in some cases.

Another fool who thinks farming is "easy".

Have you ever actually produced the food you lived off for an entire year?  No?  I suggest you shut the fuck up.

1. GMO manufacturers are using GMO to create monopolies and limit who can grow food. Lots of Family farmers growing Non-GMO food other get sued by the GMO company for not purchasing thier seed. The Non-GMO plants get cross pollinated which instantly makes the crops "owned" by the GMO company. its like a women getting raped and getting sued because she didn't payoff the rapist for impregnating her!

2. GMO companies are inserting genes to produce insecticides or produce toxins in animals and humans, which increases health risks.

3. GMO companies are inserting animal and human genes to make crops disease resistant. This is completely abnormal and could result in new diseases that have severe ramifications in decades. The Plant and Animal kingdoms went their separate way about a billion years ago.

4. Increase yield is a distortion as most of these GMO crops have issues that required increase yield, More water, more fertilizer inputs, more pesticides/fungicides, etc. Its not as clear cut as you make it appear.

5. There is always the risk that they release the next Klebsiella planticola: http://www.donabee.com/health/klebsiellaplanticola.htm

6. Stop being an ass when someone disagrees with you! Just because you grow  your own crops does not mean your an expert. Even the GMO scientists are pretty much shooting blind.

The US doesn't care about deficits anymore. As long as countries still accept the US dollar the Federal Reserve can print 10's or 100's of trilions more.

The Federal Reserve's solution is to abuse it's reserve currency right and print like there is no tomorrow. A US dollar crash would kill the Fed's function.

There is a lot of truth to that and I suspect that the efforts of the Russians and Chinese to make their own currencies part of the reserve currency scene is also aimed at them abusing their new status so as to acquire materials and products for the low low cost of printing their own currency.

I keep on remembering the adage that the role of forecasters is to make astrology look respectable.

Other than that, no one expects the market to really do much more than shrug.

We have all cried wolf so many times only to see the sheep become more and more brazen.

But when it strikes, the abbatoirs will be working overtime.
