I know you have more influence the smaller you get, but I really don't see their authority to rule either.

So I do what I can in my own way. BTW, NY will now never get another dime from me for a license to take the king's game.  Fucking website wouldn't work when I went to get a license.  Went without, got ticket (by officer Richard Head I shit you not), pled guilty with a plea for dismissal.  No dice. $25 fine and a $75 court fee.

NY will now never get another dime from me.

So I do what I can, but I will not consent to this system, from the local level on up.  The local system is as corrupt as the national one, just in different ways.

Not gonna argue the corruption point at any level.

I will say that based on my recent experience, you can get under their skin and get their attention in a hurry.

Our group stirs up action in the local area via candidate forums, informational postcards in the candidate's backyard and other such shenanigans.

It Works!

I had a legislative aid ask me in a face to face meeting to call off the dogs. What she meant was, we don't like you stirring up the grassroots and blowing up our email box.

To that I say, Tough Shiite! I asked her who her boss worked for, the people or the leadership in Tallahassee, she didn't answer.

I'm telling you setting grassroots fires is very effective in getting your point across and flexing your constitutional muscles.

Hey, DaddyO, I have a website platform that may interest you.

The idea is to have all the candidates answers to various questions, on the site, with simple arrow navigation to go to the next question or next candidate's answer.

The key thing is to pick good questions, like "Will you vote in favor of making ALL city spending public and transparent?" (ie: not just the above 5,000$ items, like they usually do, to hide the graft).  Just from that question, it is typically extremely easy for just about anyone to tell who is legit and who isn't, and also to hold them accountable afterwards.

And those candidates who refuse to answer get screwed since everyone sees then that they don't want to answer these questions...

It is also worth noting how journalism is worthless in really helping people decide at election time: not only are the journalists always suspect (all are biased), but there are generally way too many candidates for many posts and hence only the 'favored' ones get covered.

Anyhow, you can check out the demo here: http://betterinfos.com/CandidCompare (note: I only put sample questions and answers for the mayors, not for the other seats).  The project is open source and free to use/modify/etc.

But the key difference is that your approach does not make those answers available to voters.  What does it matter how many questionnaires you send to candidates, if no one can see their answers?

With the website I designed, voters can choose any question they care about and then compare the answers given by all the candidates...

Tue, 06/24/2014 - 12:22 | 4889664 DaddyO
DaddyO's picture

Oh contraire, mon frere!

We are tabulating the responses and will indeed make them public.

We do also ask these question publically in forums. You wanna see someone squirm, just ask a tough constitutional question in a public forum where 200-300 people can here your answer.

I'm not sure if you are selling your website or services as I didn't click the link.

Tue, 06/24/2014 - 12:35 | 4889694 Christophe2
Christophe2's picture

As I mentioned in the earlier comment, the site is open-source and completely free.  It can be hosted by anyone and modified by anyone, for free.

Honestly, I do not think it matters much to have a few hundred people hear candidates squirm for a moment in a debate, but I think it matters to have the squirm-inducing answers on a website for the duration of the election campaign.

Most people do not have time to make it to those public forums (at most 5% show up), but people do have time to browse a website at their leisure.  Also, it is easy to baffle with BS when speaking, but it is much harder to achieve this in writing, especially when each answer gets compared to the other candidates'!

If you only ever keep using the same techniques and approaches as before, then don't be surprised if you only ever get the same results as before...

How are you going to 'tabulate' the answers you receive?  It seems to me you need something like the website I created, which is a far cry from the static page you linked to, but whatever.

I'm not going to debate the usefulness of your website.

Suffice it to say that having public records of a candidate or elected officials positions is a good thing.

If your trying to sell or promote your website, I would recommend that you not be so antagonistic towards others who may file your site for future perusal.

But that's my .02 as a future consumer.

First you said "Here is our take on your idea.", followed by "I'm not sure if you are selling your website or services as I didn't click the link.", followed by "I'm not going to debate the usefulness of your website.".

LOL.  Next you'll tell me your hard drive crashed and you lost your emails...  But people are supposed to care about your local elections, 'cos you are really trying to change things, right?

DaddyO's picture

So you weren't happy with the fact that I said I had filed your website for exploration and evaluation at a later date?

You continue to be antagonistic to what end?

Not very forward looking in regards to getting your platform out there for others to evaluate and use, eh?

Now I could care less about looking at your site as a useful tool!

It was clear, nearly from the start, that you were and are NOT interested and that you are basically full of BS, so I don't feel any need to hold back from calling you out for your BS.

Other people who are honestly trying to make a difference through local elections may be interested in the project.  I have moved on, since I think elections are a waste of time, especially due to all the people like you who always get involved.

YOU are the one who is trying to get people to still believe in elections, only clearly it doesn't seem like you want to change anything significant, you just want people to keep their 'hope' in that BS process.

Each side agreeing to allow the other a few small 'wins' to please their bases, but ultimately agreeing not to take it too far. CON-gress. Come on, you douche-bags, start indicting people for contempt of Congress. A good place to begin would be with the black Nazi, Eric Holder. Lock the fucker up.

Really, this will not happen. The Repubs are waiting until October to release the Krakken and win every election on the slate, take the Senate by storm and start impeachment hearings early 2015. That would be my game plan, at least, though with Boehner knocking down a quart of bourbon a day, one wonders if there's any plan at all.

We need change or collapse; either will do just fine by me.

But, hurry the fuck up!

It's like they don't even bother anymore because they know the fix is in no matter what they do.

Koskinen claimed the IRS limits it's 90K employees to 6,000 e-mail messages because it can't afford the storage costs out of it's $1.8B budget for IT...

Google Apps for Government gives every user 30GB of storage with redundant distributed backup for $50/user/year. This service could be implemented across the IRS in a matter of days/weeks and would cost a total of $4.5M/year which amounts to .0025% of its budget.

Agreed... it's going to be interesting to see how this pans out for Trey.  IMO they could not have picked a better candidate for this and I think there are very high expectations of him.  To say he has his work cut out for him is an understatement, but what if he 'fails to produce what we are wanting him to produce'?  It's obvious that the admin and their crony friends are doing everything humanly possible to hide, coverup, etc., what seems to be the truth about this whole thing, but what if Trey can not crack any of these and ends up just telling us the same thing that this admin and the MSM has been saying?

With as adamant that Trey has been regarding the corruption and scandalous nature of this IRS, what if he ends up being 'forced' (either through findings, or other means) to admit that there really is not a smigeon of corruption...?  Will that spell the end of Trey? Is he a fall guy?  We already know that Boehner has not been real fond of Trey...

Congress keeps saying he is a liar, but then Congress still has not ordered an IT forensic team in to investigate. It is oh so easy to go in with some portable hard drives and grab copies of everything before it gets scrubbed further.

Yeah, and why do I get the feeling that they will never order that team?

Because those emails most likely contain information damaging to BOTH sides. And both sides know it, so those emails will never be permitted to be 'found'. The Republicans will shriek about this, and the Democrats will let them...the show WILL go on for the cameras. Each side will be permitted their few minutes before the cameras to stake their position and collect the 'brownie points' from their side for saying all the right things, knowing that no inconvenient evidence will arise that makes them look foolish.

The Dems will allow the Repubs to make an issue of the emails, in return the Repubs will work with the Dems to make sure those emails STAY lost. Each side will be allowed to make their appeals to their respective bases, but at the end both sides will 'reluctantly' agree that there may have been something there, but we just couldn't prove it.

Afterward's, in Boehner's office, the Democrat and Republican leadership will relax, share a couple of bottles from Boehner's private stash, and congratulate each other for playing their respective roles so well.

Like the Warner Bros. cartoon where the sheepdog and the wolf do their day-jobs of being on opposite sides, then clock out on friendly terms, and say, "See you tomorrow."

I think there was something like two million emails lost during "Plamegate".  What goes around comes around.

What exactly is "Plamegate"?  Is that the reporting of Valerie Plame as an employee of the CIA? A position that was under her picture in Washington's "Who's Who", an annual publication? Or is that the "scandal" regarding a woman whose husband used to routinely brag at PARTIES that his wife worked for the CIA? Or is that the woman, sitting at a desk in Langley, whose "identity was reported by Robert Novak?

congress has the right by law, to place anyone in contempt of congress into jail for 12 months. that law is on the books since 1857 and is rarely used.

do you know why a crooked piece of shit legislator(s) will rarely hold anyone in 'contempt' and almost never place anyone in jail ?

because crooks don't want to actually place other crooks in jail lest the same tactics be used upon themselves. -----thieves code of honor.

...and he is another dirt bag attorney from the Ivy League.  So when Hillary wins in 2016 they will just move this douch bag to some other Department.

ISIS Supporters Invite Lionel Messi to Join Jihad After Goal Against Iran

When Lionel Messi scored a 91st-minute goal to give Argentina a victory over underdogs Iran in Saturday’s World Cup game, he seems to have picked up some unlikely fans.

Iran’s Mehr News Agency, as translated by the Brookings Institution’s Hanif Zarrabi-Kashani, reports that online supporters of ISIS, the Sunni militant group currently fighting in Iraq and Syria, congratulated Messi for defeating their Shiite enemy Iran and invited him to “join the jihadist call.”

What the IRS scandal is all about is the ability to remain anonymous.  The ability to do what they want to accomplish is easily doable under other laws, ….. without remaining anonymous.  The key here is the destruction of laws which govern the ability to track the movement of campaign funds.

Once you allow “religious organizations” to funnel funds from point A to point B without accountability, one exposes the system to “offshore” funds having financial influence in American political elections.  I can think of a few countries when given the possibility to elect the President Of Their Choice; what little independence remains within our political system will be wiped out.

With the Citizens United decision recently made, it became desirable to hide funds (hiding who was buying favor actually) by use of the 501(c) nonprofit organizations, 501(c)(3) educational , 501(c)(4) social welfare, 501(c)(5) unions, 501(c)(6) trade associations.  These are all tax free under proper circumstances.

The tax free certification only allows you to advertise same and perhaps would interest more donors to contribute.

This is a tempest in a tea pot and is a distraction from the real problems, current and past, foisted upon us by Congress et al.

New York Times reported at the time:

Almost all of the biggest players among third-party groups, in terms of buying television time in House and Senate races since August, have been 501(c) organizations, and their purchases have heavily favored Republicans....

They include 501(c)(4) "social welfare" organizations, like Crossroads, which has been the top spender on Senate races, and Americans for Prosperity, another pro-Republican group that has been the leader on the House side; 501(c)(5) labor unions, which have been supporting Democrats; and 501(c)(6) trade associations, like the United States Chamber of Commerce, which has been spending heavily in support of Republicans.

End Snippet

If you ask me, this is about Netanyahu being able to funnel Sovereign State Funds into his friends (Mitt Romney) campaign.  Romney would be great for Israel and very bad for the US.  Worse than “W” if you can imagine that.

This is not judgmental, but informational.  A religion(s) specific to a specific country which is not specific to the specific election; is non-sequitur.

From Wikipedia:

Judaism is foundational to the history and doctrine of Mormonism. Jews and Mormons both agree that keeping commandments is essential to their religion. Jews and Mormons both agree that Moses was a prophet. Jews and Mormons both diverge from a literal interpretation of the Tanach (Biblical commandments). But as they diverge: Jews and Mormons disagree about the specifics of what is commanded and how commandments are received. Mormons regularly receive commandments anew through personal revelation according to the authority, dominion, and worthiness of the individual. Jews inherit a scholarly tradition of commandments and eschew any contemporary revelation as presumptively false.

The Latter Day Saint movement teaches that its adherents are either direct descendants of the House of Israel or adopted into it. As such, Mormonism regards Jews as a covenant people of God, held in high esteem and respected in the Mormon faith system. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) refers to itself as philo-Semitic in its doctrine.

Studies have shown that Jews generally view Mormons more positively than any other religious group,[1][2] despite often voting on opposite ends of the political spectrum. Explanations for Jews' high regard for Mormons is speculated to come both from their solidarity with other historically abused religious minorities and the philo-semitism of Mormon theology.

Snippet from Haaretz

http://www.haaretz.com/news/features/how-kabbala-shaped-mormon-faith-1.4...

Smith had one purpose, to renew the Israelite nation of yore. For this purpose, prophecy was renewed, priestly orders were established, and temples (not churches) were built. Even the polygamy of the Patriarchs was renewed. Smith wanted to build "Zion" on American soil. Smith spoke of a new society, where people would share their property, and were faithful to the true Bible coming from the lips of their leader. The same leader, Smith, pretended to rule this utopia as a “prophet, priest and king” entrusted by God to be responsible for the fate of his subjects.

In 1844, after they were chased out and expelled from Missouri, tens of thousands of Mormons moved on to Illinois. There, Smith established the city of Nauvoo, which grew rapidly and soon numbered more than 10,000 inhabitants, approximately the size of Chicago at the time. Smith himself was the city's mayor, and when the harassment of the Mormons began again he announced his candidacy for the U.S.presidency. in elections scheduled that year. His secret plan was to annul the separation of church and state after his election and to establish a kingdom of priests, with himself at its head. Several months later, he was killed in a lynching.

In his book, Harold Bloom writes that “If there is already in place any authentic version of the American Religion then, as Tolstoy surmised, it must be Mormonism, whose future as yet may prove decisive for the nation and for more than this nation alone.”

Religions have a right to be whatever they want to be.  We have a right to be free from what they want.

This is the uniting of two religions which are severely undemocratic in nature, complaining about the abuse of democracy.  It is not about emails!  It is about religious governance.

If you want to overthrow a nation, first democratize it.

The real reason why these so-called pro-democracy critics and activists are now hammering against Putin is because they want to go back to the Robber Baron era of Yeltsin so that they can steal again, and steal even more today from Russia.

In the infancy of societies, the chiefs of the state shape its institutions; later the institutions shape the chiefs of state. ~Baron de Montesquieu
