Disrespect for Authority
From Slope of Hope: Regular readers have probably divined that I don't have mountainous amounts of respect for authority figures. I tend to live on the right side of the law, so civil "servants' have never done me any good. My relationship with the government consists mainly of giving them taxes in exchange for - - ostensibly - - living in polite society.
I've been a victim of property crime before, including a burglary so devastating that it almost destroyed Prophet, my startup business. The police never figured out who did it. I've had stuff stolen from my car before. The police never solved the case. Indeed, I've only had two kinds of interactions with the police. One of them is them giving me traffic violations for the most minor offenses, pushing my insurance higher and fomenting even more contempt within me for these vastly overpaid authority figures.
The other interaction I've had is more directly related to the topic of this post. When I moved into my newly-purchased house in Palo Alto back in 1991 with my wife, we had one dog: a half Chow Chow, half golden retriever named Chelsea. He was a fantastic dog - absolutely gorgeous, and steadfastly loyal to the family. Long-time viewers on Tastytrade remember seeing a color portrait of him I have hanging in my office.
One day, a Palo Alto cop shows up on my doorstep to enforce some kind of order related to an unlicensed dog (which turned out to be owned by the previous owner of my house). Chelsea started barking at him, and this jackass with a badge pulls out his gun and points it straight at Chelsea's face, warning me he'll shoot him if my dog doesn't stop barking. I put my arms around my dog and calmed him down. The policeman left after he realized he was enforcing an order with a dog that wasn't there anymore.
I called the police department, where they house all these overpaid government employees, and told the sergeant precisely what I thought of the incident. Later that day, the cop comes back to my home, dragged there by his sergeant, and, hanging his head, sheepishly tells me he's sorry. Yeah, yeah.
Anyway.
I was reminded of this by this story from Salt Lake City, which tells of an officer that was looking for a lost child. For reasons wholly unclear to me, in conducting a house-to-house search, this "peace" officer shot and killed a dog. Here's a picture of this obviously vicious and terrifying beast:
Just to be clear, it's not like this police officer was politely sashaying down the street, whistling a merry tune, and the dog jumped out of a bush, lunging for his throat. The cop
shot the dog in a fenced, private backyard. Now the dog is dead, and the officer's punishment is that he's on Paid Leave, which I guess means he can jack off to kitten-crush videos in the privacy of his own home and get direct deposit from his fellow citizens.
All the owner wants is for the cop to get fired, which I think is letting him off terribly lightly. I think a million bucks from the police force paid to a humane shelter would be a nice touch too, but no one even thought of that. All the owner of the now-late Geist wants is for this dickhead to be fired.
If you live in Salt Lake City, know that a rally is planned for Saturday, June 28 at 10:00am in MDT at 475 South 300 East, Salt Lake City, Utah 84111. If you don't live there, but you want to invest one second of your time to at least express your support of Geist, and support for the officer to be terminated, kindly click on the Justice for Geist Facebook page.
Animals don't deserve this kind of treatment. Especially from a cop. Cops should spend their time ticketing people for going 26 in a 25 MPH zone instead to pay for their bloated benefits. Please click the link.

Good news will be that police drones vs. humans are coming soon so no worry about human mistakes and dogs unless they can jump 20 feet
There is a major problem with hiring and training of police officers.
1. Training: Officers are not taught how to intelligently defuse situations, instead they are taught to be confrontrational, to provoke people, and to use force as soon as possible. This is called "getting control of the situation." Simply moronic.
2. Hiring: Many of the officers have character/personality problems, which would result in them being criminals, if they had not be hired as police.

Cop to dispatch. "i have a fenced in dog that looks very threatening, should I shoot him"?
"Roger that"
Forget the dog killing, what about all the people killing the gun and badge thugs perpetrate on a weekly basis?!
Here the local einsatzgruppenof Albuquerque are seen gunning down a just woken up James Boyd:

Fuck the gun and badge thugs and the DC US' einsatzgruppen.
See my post above. It's counter-prodcutive to forgive or forget fucked-up behavior just because some other cop did something else more fucked-up.
authority does not imply morality, or even good judgement.
which is too bad. there are some good cops out there that want to do good. they're just screwed by the legions of bureaucrats and napoleons around them.
You hear about so many stories where dogs are befriended in Afghanistan because of their unwaivering loyalty to the servicemen who befriend them. My "adopted" soldier had a sort of white lab they feed and stayed in their camp. One night the dog started barking and wouldn't stop. Smart commander rolled everyone out and locked and loaded an hour before a major attack on their base. Dog ate REAL well thereafter. Regs prevented everyone from bringing him home. Sad end.
And this cop... Lost total respect for them because of events like this.
If we, the people, lobbied our city/town gov't to administer urine testing on every city/town employee and fire the city employee that test positive for , illicit, steroid use we could fire 75% of the police force and deny them pension benefits.
I worked for the city and I was subjected to two random test, which I passed, while I was employed.
Guess who they don't test? You guessed it...the police. Their union would object, but fuck them. Pee in the cup or else.
The bureaucracy has become independent of the needs and desires of the citizens they serve, and thus, unaccountable. Their interests are in building and retaining power and influence. What are the good citizens of this area to do, if in fact they are so motivated to exact blood from this turnip? The government has limited itself for liability (convenient), has protected itself from the whims of the public (via unionization and contractual favoritism), and demands whatever monies it can reasonably get away with under the guise of "public safety." Policing is no longer the domain of protecting and serving, it is the growing domain of fraternal criminality, fraud, and deceit. This officer (being counseled at taxpayer expense by his pro-union attorneys) will claim the dog was trying to bite him and that's that. Truth or not, the bureaucracy protects itself with magic phrases (hat tip - TrulyStupid) of immunity. End of investigation and thus the fraud and deceit of "public protection and safety" perpetuates itself. The system is designed by the bureacracy, enforced by the bureaucracy, and emboldened by the neutered governing body who claim to be "in charge" by virtue of an election.
Shoot a dog who can't tell the difference between a patrol officer and criminal and they'll handle it...but refuse to work the Gay Pride Parade and ask for another assignment? Then you just get the fuck out you gay hating bastard.
Wanna be nazis are easy to find...
The constitution forbids corporate militia, and for some very good reasons.
Palo Alto is a corporate entity. The police are paid mercenaries to "serve and protect" the corporation.
The police are an illegitimate entity and violate the constitution. They only exist because "we the people are too stupid and apathetic to eliminate them...even as they morph into a local weaponized arm of the federal government.
There is a SHERIFF, which is a constitutionally elected position and one for which the people elect and pay for the job of PEACE OFFICER, IE maintain the public peace.
I wondered where the term POLICE came from. Apparently it is an amalgam of POLICy Enforcement. The policy of the corporation, not the will of the people.
The REAL problem are MORANS who think clicking a FACEBOOK link will effect any sort of meaningful change in the face of tyranny.
This is happening too often to be coincidence. I suspect the police are being trained to shoot dogs upon the flimsiest excuse. We already know they can turn away police applicants who are too smart. I see this as conditioning - so when told they won't flinch from shooting YOU.
Honestly, It's probably got more to do with the fact that it's cheaper to pay the "per pound" price for a dead pet (aka "personal property") than it is to pay for a cop to be on disabiliyt after he gets bit by grandma's chihuahua. That and the fact that you have a certain percentage of cops who are basically inadiquate pussies who feel the need to overcompensate for their tiny penises by hurting the weak and voiceless.
That's part of it but you can't ignore the "conditioning" aspect. "I felt my life was in danger and my service weapon discharged multiple times." "Okay, officer, don't worry, you are a hero."
Thanks for the info. Liked and forwarded to 350 friends.
I hope that cop has a life of hell as I hope that for anyone who abuses or kills animals for no valid (self defense or eating) reason.
Oh and fuck the police. Fuck authority too. Authority is just an invention of the humans to keep them at the same level of your average worker bee or ant. A truly intelligent and "evolved" species wouldn't worship and be yes-men for people they deem to have authority.
Leads? Yeah, sure, I'll just check with the boys down at the crime lab...

I propose a new Website- Stories about Authority out of control and what can be done about it. This was a good story. He posted an action. None of the other horrible stories have an action associated with what is bad if not criminal behavior.
Go visit http://keepandbeararms.com/
They don't generally have actions, but at least they are documenting the abuses.
Don't forget http://www.policestateusa.com/ either.
How about the unarmed woman with child shot in her car on the steps of the US capitol last year? WTF!!! there have been about aa dozen of these stories over the past two yeaars. WTF and they get virtually no coveragae in the media. OUT OF FUCKING CONTROL
I'd click on the link but I don't use FaceBook. Sorry
Oh poor diddle doggie...
Seriously, though, stop whining about that (poor) dog, there are much more horrible stories out there, like this one: SWAT team in Atlanta, investigating a potential drug ''crime'' and thinking it's A-OK to throw a Flash/Bang grenade in the crib of a two year old!!
See here: http://www.salon.com/2014/06/24/a_swat_team_blew_a_hole_in_my_2_year_old...
And here: http://justiceforbabyboubou.com/
The freaking cops -- and I am trying very hard to stay polite here -- are simply out of control. Poor kid was in a coma, possibly crippled for life. Another family ruined, and all of this for what? No drugs were ever found at thelocation.
The SWAT team who did that should be sent to prison. Period. I hope the family sues them to freaking hell and back.
I live near Albuquerque. I know this. Don't you fucking dare turn back to walk back into a house while holding a *spoon,* else you might get shot. Want to be a schizophrenic homeless guy camping in the foothills? Fuck you, flash bangs to the face and bullets to the back for you. And don't even think about a rolling stop at a stop sign in Deming, else you might get an endoscopy that you get billed for, whether you are worried about pollips or not.
I will NEVER move back to the fucking USA. Not fucking EVER.
I will NEVER move back to the fucking USA. Not fucking EVER.
"No drugs were ever found at the location."
Dumb ass cops. Back in my day they all had a stash to drop just in case. Also a Saturday Night Special throwaway to justify a shooting.
The throw down gun scam hit the news in Miami. Probably because not every officer had one, so when it was needed a cop would get on the radio and call for "the sock." Magic tricks lose their thrill once the public knows how they're done.

Curbing Police psychopathy is not accomplished by forgiving completely abhorrent behavior because you found something you think is worse.
As you mention - this is a pattern of conduct - not a contest to find the winner of the "worst cop" award and focus only on that.
Some folks around here take their canine companions pretty damn seriously and using the state's authority to murder somebody's pet dog is completely fucked up. So is pepper spraying or tasing seated protesters. So is indiscriminantly tossing flash/bangs into houses. So is anally probing drivers after traffic stops. etc. etc.
Focus on the war, not the battle.
Prison would be to good.
One magic phrase absolves all cops and renders constituional protections invalid: "suspicion of terror"
