"America Deluded Us" Slams Angry Iraq PM, Will Buy Russian Jets Instead In War Against ISIS

Tyler Durden's picture

It was a week ago when we learned that in yet another diplomatic masterstroke, Russia's Vladimir Putin took advantage of the vacuum in relations between the US (which now wants its heretofore puppet prime minister in Iraq removed) and the Iraqi PM (who has been increasingly vocal against US allies in the region, namely Saudi Arabia, and US demands for a coalition government) and offered his "complete support" to the Iraqi leader. Yesterday the Iraqi leader has decided to take Putin up on his offer (especially since as we reported previously the Iraqi air force is currently made up of all of two "equipped" Cessna jets) and has announced he has bought used Russian jets which he will use instead of US fighter planes in his war against ISIS.

As BBC reports, citing Maliki, "Jets from Russia and Belarus will hopefully make a key difference in the fight against ISIS in Iraq." He expressed regrets over Iraq's contract with the US, saying their "jets are taking too long to arrive."

"God willing within one week this force will be effective and will destroy the terrorists' dens," he told BBC Arabic.

Mr Maliki says Iraq has ordered Sukhoi fighter jets from Russia, possibly similar to the one pictured.

In the meantime, the prime minister took another chance to poke the US in the eye, which despite sending "weaponized consultants" or whatever Obama calls troops and special CIA agents these days, has so far failed to deliver on its promised fighter jets to the civil war-torn country. Maliki criticized the process of purchasing US jets as “long-winded,” adding that the radicals could have been repelled if Iraq had proper air defense.

"I'll be frank and say that we were deluded when we signed the contract [with the US]," Maliki said. "We should have sought to buy other jet fighters like British, French and Russian to secure the air cover for our forces; if we had air cover we would have averted what had happened," he went on.

Maliki said Iraq bought second-hand jet fighters from Russia and Belarus "that should arrive in Iraq in two or three days." He was speaking to the BBC's Arabic service in his first interview for an international broadcaster since Isis - the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant - began its major offensive.

The prime minister also confirmed that Syrian forces had carried out air strikes against Islamist militants at a border crossing between Iraq and Syria. He said Iraq had not requested the strikes but that it "welcomed" them. "They carry out their strikes and we carry out ours and the final winners are our two countries," he said.

Ironically, this also means that, at least optically, the US is now alligned with Russia as well as Iran, Syria and Saudi Arabia in the "all against one" fight against ISIS which continued to consolidate its territory in Iraq and Syria.

What it really means is that Obama has asked, and is about to get $500 milllion more to arm ISIS and its al-Qaeda peers in Syria, which in turn the Iraq air force will now use Russian jets to bomb.

What is the definition of a proxy war again?

It's very valuable to continue to isolate Hussein Obama's criminal marxist regime globally.  We're already isolating them here in the states and we need to continue isolating them from abroad as well.

I was at a bar yesterday watching the US World Cup game (I don't follow soccer, but it was an excuse to drink in the middle of the day with some colleagues).  Place was full.  A couple of guys tried to start a "USA!  USA!" chant, and got only a few takers even though there was plenty of beer flowing.

Sorry to bust your fantasy world, but the USA is a reasonably decent football team, ranked 13th in the world, above Holland and France. They are now in the last 16, whereas England (invented the sport), Spain (current world and European champions) and Italy (four times world champions) are out because they just weren't good enough.

In Syria yes.....in Iraq no.....could change on whatever we feel like doing at any given time.

In more pressing news........we still haven't changed the name of the Washington Redskins.....and Nancy Pelosi is headed to the border to lead the children to the promised (by Obama) land, presumably with a gavel in her hands.

Of course, John Boehner is doing absolutely nothing....which is pretty normal for him.

Yes in that our prez is asking congress to authorize $500,000,000 to arm them with high tech anti-aircraft and anti-tank missles. No in that we are (supposedly) selling fighter jets to Irag to bomb the shit out of them. Go figure.

An American oil company big wig said in the 1970's (I think) that the best situation for them in the Middle-East was to keep the countries there at each other's throats - i.e. in complete chaos.  Things starting to make sense now?

you missed the sub-plot.  Turkey supports ISIS, at least in Syria.  Turkey would like its southern beaches back.  It hates Assad and also Iran (the big rival) except when it is selling Iran gold to massage the Turkish balance of trade.  Turkey doesn't like Kurds, who are fighting ISiS - except that there aren't any Kurds.  They are really "hill Turks", all 9 million of them.

Turks are Byzantines, and it means "too clever by half", for a reason.

The real solution here is for Turkey to treat the Kurds like we treat Texans.  Crazy folks but they have oil.  Invite them in. Give them six Senators if they want, and let them name military bases after local heroes.  Keep them far away from economic policy as they will do crazy stuff to push up energy prices.

Well for starters the Kurds are Indo Europeans who speak a language related to Persian/Iranian.

The original turks were Altai peoples (not Indoeuropean) different mountain range than the Caucus mountains.  If you look at some of the first sultans, their features were asian.  After much mixing with the byzantines yes the turks have now quite a bit of European blood but they still speak an Altai non IndoEuropean language.

Too many people it appears a struggle is occurring to unseat America as the words most dominate nation. Too many proud Americans who see the world from the unenlightened and possibly undefendable position the United States has a right to be in control it is both threatening and frustrating to see control slip away.

It is threatening to think the country might quickly fall to the position of a second rate power mired in debt with many of the options we have come to see as our right suddenly ripped away. It is frustrating that in many ways the country has become its own worse enemy guilty of political inaction and squandering its power through a series of bad choices and missteps. Food for thought

You buy Boeings and you find Americans can take it over in flight whenever they want or possibly have a system to even blow it up on the ground remotely

You buy they Fighter or cargo planes and find it can be used against you itself by non availability of parts, destruction by various means. I am positive that the drones also can be taken over and used against you. If Iran could bring down an American surveilance drone intact, imagine what would happen to a nuke equipped drone.

Americans are oblivious to everything or perhaps they have been dumbed by their media to such an extent that they cannot think.

anybody with capital I got a 100% return for you:

"Much hoopla has erupted since Kurdistan sold a $106 million load of crude oil to a buyer in Israel. Here was justice at last for the long-suffering Kurds, forgotten in the 1916 Sykes-Picot agreement that divided the Middle East and seemed to give every other major nation its own home, including some nations not previously considered nations.

That is the 50,000-foot view, though, and wholly neglects the fate of the first tanker to set sail with Kurdish oil. (The Israeli sale was the second shipment.) The United Leadership left the Turkish port of Ceyhan on May 22. But a combination of US and Iraqi threats have sent it zig-zagging since without a buyer. The US says that Kurdish oil sales carried out without Baghdad’s permission will worsen Iraq’s political crisis.

After that, the Kurds got smart and sent their tankers on other routes, using diversionary methods to sell their crude. But that has done no good for the United Leadership.

First, the tanker headed to Europe with the idea of selling to Italian and perhaps German refiners. But it made a swift change of course across the Atlantic when no buyer apparently would take the chance of a lawsuit. The ship got some 200 miles (320km) on its way toward the Gulf of Mexico, but then, off the coast of Portugal, made a U-turn when a buyer apparently surfaced in Morocco—the Samir refinery in Mohammedia, according to the Iraq Oil Report (paywall).

On June 3, it reached the north African coast, where it has sat ever since, anchored at sea 31 nautical miles (57km) northwest of Rabat.

At one stage, according to a Bloomberg report, the Kurds attempted to sell the oil at the firesale price of $56 a barrel, a little more than half the going rate. The Kurds have angrily disputed the report, but the impression of desperation has sunk in. The United Leadership also at least temporarily shut off its transponder in a possible attempt to prevent tracking, but its location as of yesterday was available at MarineTraffic.com."

Wet lease and Dry lease  The jets themselves are totally useless without russian pilots.  it would take months to get a squadron ready for war possibly more than a year.  One imagines, russia is sending its own military "specialists" with this deal...Cough cough, wet lease deal?

If Iraq has no military pilots with fast jet experience, (cessnas at the moment, two of them), it would probably take 3 years plus to get to the operational stage.  This looks more like a russian detachment paid for by Iraqi oil money.....Unless Iraq is planning on using Iranian pilots?

Christ the plot thickens.  let's just call it a Russo/Shiite air offensive...

PS Don't forget the huge logistics chain behind each aircraft, munitions, engineering, servicing lines.  The ONLY way this is effective is if Putin sends in an entire detachment.  Not even a proxy war, this is the real thing.....

In 1543 Francis I King of France asked the Barbaresque pirate Khyar ad din Redbeard to come attack Nice, a city belonging to rival emperor Charles V, in the context of the Franco-Ottoman alliance officially signed in 1536. This siege was seen by him as strategic ploy to harass the Emperor in his Italian conquests and countered in the South  the two pronged Imperial-English alliance launched in the North of France of this phase of the Italian wars.

This caused extreme angst in the christian world to see the INFIDEL help the greatest christian king-- monarch of eldest daughter of the Papal church-- in his never ending fight with his alter ego the Emperor of half of Europe and all of New World.

Pope  Paul III was outraged and insisted that Francis I pay amends to the christian religion (which he did by massacring 3000 Vaudois protestants at Merindol in 1545 to appease the catholics) --we were at the very beginning of the religious wars in France --.

Now to Iraq. We have all the makings of a change of "unholy" alliance in current Iraq and the upcoming further aggravation of the internal religious divide between Sunnis and Shias in the region; which includes also the Turkish/Kurdish/iranian confrontation. It  could become an eighty year war as for the Ottomans in their territories of the Low countries (1567-1648).

What the Muslims did not learn during the Renaissance and the Enlightenment, having forgotten their past heritage of the Abbasid House of Wisdom;  they may have to re-learn during the 21 st century.

History rhymes and she can be a bitch with the face of a Nemesis.

Anyone wonder if the CIA is involved here? ISIS - She was worshipped as the ideal mother and wife as well as the patroness of nature and magic. She was the friend of slaves, sinners, artisans and the downtrodden, but she also listened to the prayers of the wealthy, maidens, aristocrats and rulers.[1] Isis is often depicted as the mother of Horus, the hawk-headed god of war and protection (although in some traditions Horus's mother wasHathor). Isis is also known as protector of the dead and goddess of children.

The name Isis means "Throne".[2] Her headdress is a throne. As the personification of the throne, she was an important representation of the pharaoh's power. The pharaoh was depicted as her child, who sat on the throne she provided. Hercult was popular throughout Egypt, but her most important temples were at Behbeit El-Hagar in the Nile delta, and, beginning in the reign with Nectanebo I (380–362 BCE), on the island of Philae in Upper Egypt.

You are showing a keen lack of knowledge with your comment about the SU-27 and the Eurofighter Typhoon.

Eurofighters are more maneuverable, better equipped and better weaponised than the SU-27, especially the export versions.  Typhoons use the best AAMs in the industry (meteors), Brimstone and Storm Shadow. Far better than F-16 also.  Admittedly they would struggle against SU-PAK, but at the present time they are leading the pack.

For the record, Typhoons beat F-22 Raptors in recent training.

Deluded?  Wow, can you imagine, a foreign 'leader' feels deluded by Obama?   Think more like Putin - dumb fuck - and you won't get deluded again.

Deluded - how does he think our servicemen and women feel?

Deluded - how does he think every American feels when they pay their tax bill and watch as the Russian, Chinese, and Iranians take over ever asset in the country.

Deluded are the > 1/2 the voters of this 300+ million strong US of A who were deluded by the fuck - twice - each time 4 years apart.

Deluded - The other slightly less than <1/2 of all voting Americans who never cast a ballot for the fuck head but realize that he deluded the rest of the voting public while he's fucked the rest of us harder than his favorite Chicago bathhouse bitch.

Deluded - The Nobel Peace Prize voting members.

Deluded - Anyone who has believed a single fucking word that's ever come out of Obama's mouth or the mouth of anyone speaking for him in the past decade.

Deluded by us - that's a fucking hoot.  We should stop deluding the world into thinking all Americans are ike Obama.  have the fuck impeached and convicted and then have Caterpillar as our next contractors in Iraq. We have them level and pave the entire fucking place from one-end to the other and push every living person to another part of that shit hole of a world we've help devolve.

After paving is done, and every 'citizen' is given the choice of fleeing to Syria, Turkey, Iran, Saudi Arabia or Jordan (yes, Jordan, the country we haven't heard much from, but will probably be in the middle of another civil war any day now), we take over all the oil well and recompense ourselves 100X over for every dollar we spent there.  Then, we use additional proceeds to provide $10,000,000 for every mortally wounded soldier for life care, $5,000,000 to the family of any fallen soldier, a signing bonus of $50,000 to anyone who served there (per tour), etc.  After we pump the rest of their oil, we let them have the place back.  It will be like the US Government giving out rights to the wild west.  Don't worry, we'll be nicer than Israel, we'll allow you thr 'right of return.' We can do our own little Iraqi Homestead Act - as soon as there ain't an ounce of oil left under the country - give it a decade or two.

Where's General Blackhead when you need him?  Oh, that's right, he's dead.  Oh well, there might be one 5-star guy left that hasn't been dismissed by Obama who can orchestrate the takeover of a country we've already run rough-shod over twice int he past 25 years, especially when we don't concern ourselves with collateral damage.

A small point is being missed here, as BBC reports, citing Maliki, "Jets from Russia and Belarus will hopefully make a key difference in the fight against ISIS in Iraq."  Belarus.

I would say it is most likely to be second hand Belarus aircraft that are now on their way to Iraq. Similar to this deployment http://en.itar-tass.com/russia/723406

Select a type from the list below but I would go for the SU25 Frogfoot (think A10 without the Gatling gun) for ground attack along with perhaps SU24. Can't see the need for a SU27 yet.

http://www.milavia.net/airforces/reports/belarusian-air-force/

As for pilots, choose between Syrian, Iranian and Belarus, all fully trained on the aircraft types. Maintenance can be done in Syria or Iran, no problem. Many Iraqis. perhaps now retired used to work on these planes when they were in the Iraqi Air Force before the planes were destroyed by the US or flew to Iran. How about the Iranians giving back to Iraq their MIG29/SU25?

There are lots more options for the Iraqis with Russian aircraft than with US types. THey may not be as capable with the latest US/Israeli flown aircraft but they may not have to face them.

I think in the past few days - Iran has released some of those planes.  If Syrian pilots are trained for SU25s - I am sure many will volunteer.  Syria wanst these ZATO ISIS rats exterminated.  IRaq in Al Maliki has already given Syria the green light.    The SU25 is more than capable and is much faster and manuverable than the A-10.
