I have that and it doesn't always work. You can block plugins for ZH or you can stop the page before in completely reloads which doesn't allow the ads or plugins to download.

Ghostery, kill the ads, beacons, etc. I'm running Firefox with TOR on a SSD laptop...no problems even w/TOR latency.
speaking of that..Is there anyway to block the advertisements that display between the article and the comments?

I'd not worry much about MRAP's and the like. Most local yokel jurisdictions won't be able to fix them once they break. I'm in the USA and I'm pretty worried here.
In Derry (London Derry) Ireland the locals have an interesting solution. In their case the problem is drug dealers. If the local IRA has a problem the dealer is informed a few times that his conduct will no longer be tolerated. After a series of clear warnings action is taken against the dealer. Sometimes it is physical.
The police do not get out of their vehicles in Derry so this is all 'community action'.
I wonder if, as the police become increasingly political (ie militarized and hostile to 'civilians') this kind of response to local problems will not become the norm.
Change the term from 'drug dealers' to 'police' and the solution writes itself.
Sometimes in Richmond, CA, the police don't get out of their vehicles because they just might be outgunned. Better just to let the natives shoot it out, first.
