Goddam it. These people are under seige from every angle. You have no idea what is going on in the home of the unemployed and skilled American; they are dying inside. The rest are numb with fear or medicated (self or professionally) just to be able to face the day. For the love of God, have some sympathy...the program in place to disengage the middle class from reality is funded by the richest assholes on earth and they have thought of everything, and turned it into a science.
The view of the people today is changed due to this...their attempt to turn the direction from healthy lifestyle, solid values, the American dream is quite visible to those who watch the events unfold. This is a tactic and it is working.
So, that leaves you folks. Can you do anything else besides post comments? I truly believe that taxes are paid to put into place protections. To expect the citizenry to do the job of the police, military, politicians and the fucking religious leaders is a bit much. The election of the out-of-the circle-jerk-performance was a sign The Sleeping Giant is awakening. Never underestimate the Americans.
It's real simple. Both the Tea Party and the Occupy movement were infiltrated early on by those whose agenda was to drive each side to the extreme, where they would be so at odds with each other they would have no time to focus on the enemy. Then instead of one growing group of disaffected people from different walks of life, you have two much smaller, and shrinking groups of chattering nutcases that can be safely dismissed.
Easy enough to do for those with some understanding of human behavior. When people live in uncertain times they look for scapegoats. If you can steer their attentions to a suitable target you can get them to put all their energies there.
So, the folks who went into the Tea Party had no trouble getting those folks to see how the poor and unemployed and underpaid were the ones causing all the issues. The other team directed their sides attention to the rich, the religious, the socially conservative. And in short order both groups were so far apart they would NEVER be able to unite and form a REAL opposition. They'd both just be a bunch of squeaking extremists that no one should take seriously. (Just in case the newly-neutered movements should accidentally say something sensible...gotta cover the bases.)
OWS were largely minimum wage workers hired by left wing groups and unions. Even some of the conservative MSM covered this.

The movement may of faded away but the issue has not. Today the huge growth in inequality is a big topic across the country. Those who look closely understand that it is not the 1% at the top stealing the icing off the cake, but the much smaller .1% or .01% that are skewing the numbers and overreaching.
I contend the biggest reason for the problem is the massive growth in crony capitalism and corruption in Washington. Much of this can be attributed to the ability of those in control "changing the rules" and positioning themselves to benefit at every corner. In our busy and complex world we have found it impossible to watch all the moving parts. More on this subject in the article below.

The origin of recent TP was actually apolitical and had no interest in promoting either the bullshit Red Team or the equally bullshit Blue team. Vote for whomever you want, but first just "stop the looting and start prosecuting". The rest will straighten itself out.
So the people who infiltrated and co-opted the TP are the problem. They didn't want the light of truth and transparency to shine on the meat grinder / sausage making of government.

I had great hope for the OWS'ers, especially when the conventions occurred the summer after. I lived through the sixties and all that when on then, so felt OWS had a good point with wall street but they were no match for Homeland Security and the MSM complance. At least in the sixties we had a media that reported the protests every night on the 6 o;clock new, now we have FOX, CNN, MSNBS propaganda machines and idiot that believe anything they present as news.
It appears only violence will move TPTB, I beleive it is time to cash out and run to Chile, per Simon Black's advice. It is going to get really bad here in a few years, I saw the violence TPTB used in the sixties, I doubt they will be as restrained this time, as most of the cops had kids getting drafted.

Final failure from too much "success" from

The theoretical definition of "plutocracy" is government by the wealthy. However, the current situation is that the source of the "wealth" of the plutocrats was the ability to make "money" out of nothing, while that fraud was enforced by governments.
We all suffer from having our society being almost totally dominated by the biggest bullies' bullshit stories, so that the language that is widely used and generally understood by people is BULLSHIT. Hence, there are no good labels for the established systems. I tend to refer to them as a runaway fascist plutocracy juggernaut, BUT, there is no generally understood language to label the situation where the control over the government is captured by the best organized gangs of criminals, which were able to apply the methods of organized crime to the political processes, sufficiently to reduce all politicians to political puppets, who perform for the masses of muppets, ALL of which operate WITHIN the established systems of lies backed with violence.
The root problems are the ways that society is controlled by Huge Lies, with the political economy being based on enforced frauds, while those are backed up by murder systems operating death control through the maximum possible deceits.
The deeper problem with respect to the superficial view that "the plutocrats have won" overlaps with HOW that happened, which is that civilization was controlled by lies backed by violence, WHERE THAT VIOLENCE NEVER MAKES THOSE LIES BECOME TRUE, BUT ONLY DRIVES THE SOCIETY CONTROLLED BY THOSE LIES TO CONSTANTLY BEHAVE MORE INSANE, AND SO, HEAD TOWARDS MAD SELF-DESTRUCTION.
The triumph of the oligarchical plutocrats is actually the triumph of controlling society through the methods of organized crime. However, as advances in science were on an exponential growth curve, and still are, to produce technologies which became order of magnitude, after order of magnitude, more powerful and capable, those abilities were primarily employed to make society become even more scientifically controlled by lies, backed by scientifically amplified violence, which, paradoxically, scientifically drove society to become even more insane!
My personal view is that the so-called "occupation" movements were always silly controlled opposition events. In order to have any sufficiently meaningful changes would take a series of intellectual scientific revolutions. Unfortunately, that is practically the same as wishing for a prodigious series of political miracles. As controlled opposition, mostly the "occupation" movements were full of the typical kinds of reactionary revolutionaries, or Black Sheeple, who continue to promote the same old-fashioned false fundamental dichotomies, and related impossible ideals, which always make the opposite happen in the real world, which, of course, is consistent with them being controlled opposition groups.
The Big Problems with the ways that the industrial revolutions were developed and directed were that those were in the service of the social pyramid systems, which were always based on backing up lies with violence, which became an even greater superstructure of legalized lies, backed by legalized violence, as the entire civilization was pumped up and up by the harnessing of inanimate energy sources, such as shown by finding and consuming as much petroleum as fast as possible. Everything that the industrial revolutions actually did was based on the basic ways that society was controlled by enforced frauds, which made and maintained attitudes of evil deliberate ignorances towards almost everything, such towards social polarization and destruction of the natural environment.
The "success" of the plutocrats is based on enforced frauds, making "money" out of nothing, to "pay" for strip-mining the Earth's natural resources. The "success" of the plutocrats is based on almost everybody being forced to live within systems of legalized lies, backed by legalized violence, which constantly drive civilization overall to behave in self-destructive ways. The "success" of the plutocrats is based on them, and almost everyone else, operating through attitudes of evil deliberate ignorance to what they are really doing, outside of the fundamentally fraudulent financial accounting system that they are operating within.
IF there were movements that were not merely more controlled opposition, continuing to operate within the frame of reference of the biggest bullies' bullshit view of the world, then those would start using unitary mechanisms. They would address the deeper issues that money was necessarily measurement backed by murder, as the most abstract form of the ways that private property was claims backed by coercions. They would work towards better dynamic equilibria between the different systems of organized lies, operating robberies.
The central problems that we actually have are that history selected for societies to be controlled by the maximum possible deceits and frauds, throughout all of its realms of death controls and debt controls. The established systems actually operate those, while their controlled opposition somewhat reveal those social facts, but then to typically collapse back to the same old-fashioned bullshit ideologies and religions that assert there should not be any such death/debt control systems.
The established murder/money systems set up by the oligarchical plutocracy operate through the maximum possible deceits and frauds, while in the public spaces they only have to face various forms of controlled opposition against them. Therefore, the established systems face their greatest enemy from themselves, due to the paradox of their final failure from too much "success." The oligarchical plutocracy has lost control of the world, because their control was based on maintaining the attitudes of evil deliberate ignorance that they originally made. They are as trapped within their own systems of enforced frauds as are everyone else. Those systems, as a whole, are becoming MAD self-destruction, with the social polarization even being more trumped by the destruction of the natural world.
The actual situation is that the plutocrats are NOT "winning." Rather, they are destroying their own future, at the same time as they destroy the future of everyone else. Within their systems of enforced frauds, it is practically impossible for more radical truth to emerge and become effective. Since the actual death controls are done through the maximum possible deceits, and the actual debt controls are done through the maximum possible frauds, we are unable to do those better. That is especially the case because the controlled opposition groups, symbolized by such as the "occupation movements" do NOT provide better death or debt controls, because they are not able to think about those any better.
The impossible ideal of OWS, which I fell for hook line and sinker, was a little known aspect of OWS known as the National General Assembly. In a nutshell, the goal was to create a shadow congress where the delegates were elected via online polling. It would have required an electorate of at least 10,000,000. As Stud Duck refers to in his comment below, the outcome of the Assembly was a petition for redress of grievances as per the First Amendment. Citizens United topped the list. The idea was that if the petition was not responded to satisfactorily, these delegates would then run in the 2014 midterms and the 2016 general election.
Funny thing is that the goal was to have the grievances addressed, not remove TPTB. I had this fantasy of Obama coming on tv and telling the country that this Assembly was something he felt the people should do and help make it happen. Laughable I know, but the plutocrats missed a great opportunity to come to the table and by helping The People resolve their grievances, help themselves too. The failure of the NGA, and especially the disgusting way TPTB dealt with Occupy, helped wake me up to the fact that the plutocrats are out of control insane!
The fighting that went on at OWS.org is reminiscent of what goes on here at ZH but similarly I met a lot of interesting people, and what motivated me to slug it out is the same thing that motivated me to participate here, namely the "the social polarization even being more trumped by the destruction of the natural world." I look back at OWS and figured it did a small part to move the world along. Given that The People failed, I find it no surprise that the bullies are about to (perhaps?) meet their match in a gang known as BRICS. Moreover, my guess is that BRICS will be "OCCUPYing" Paris at UNFCCC COP21.
I try to imagine all the work you have done Radical Marijuana to move things along (like the E.D.A.s) when what you write here at ZH is probably just a drop in the bucket. I think the ball was dropped at OWS the way the ball was dropped with the EDAs. Sad, and blah blah blahing on ZH is about all any of us here at ZH are left with, but I for one will hold my breath until Paris!

Now, NONE of the comments appear anymore in the archives. Too bad, so sad, since often the comments had better information available than the original article did.

Indeed, acethinker, I "deal with it" by thinking out loud about "the entire history of the world," because writing is a tool to help thinking, as an "acethinker" like you should recognize. Given that there appears to be "no solution to the fuckedupness that is the current state of humanity," thinking about how and why that happened is about the only consolidation available.
Nobody is forced to read anything published on Zero Hedge. Every other person who is publishing anything is also merely repeating their own song and dance routine, regarding how they think about those problems. Obviously, certain basic themes are repeated over and over and over again in various Zero Hedge articles, and so, I too respond with my typical thoughts on those matters. A few people that read my posts, I suppose, commiserate over the "fuckedupness that is the current state of humanity," as they have replied.
Anybody that has actually done any politics knows that what politicians do is repeat themselves almost ad infinitum. My posts on Zero Hedge are rehearsing my political speeches. As things get worse, faster, more people are being forced out of their old comfortable habits, to begin to think more radical thoughts. I have the vain fantasy that I may be able to catch some of those waves, which are coming with the rising social storms that are on the horizon of history. (Although, it is way more reasonable to expect that I will be wiped out instead.)
The runaway "fuckedupness that is the current state of humanity" is extremely difficult "to deal with," especially if some of the worse possible scenarios, which are all too plausible, turn out of happen. My basic view is that the debt insanities ARE going to provoke death insanities. I attempt to create a system of understanding that can continuously cope with that scenario. I "deal with it" in the best way that I can, which is to encourage some improbable series of political miracles to catalyze the social storms and runaway death insanity situations that we appear all too probably to be actually heading towards.
One thing that this article above was right about what that none of the old-fashioned kinds of protesting are doing any good, but rather, tend to become mere flotsam and jetsam, floundering under the rising tsunamis of social changes, as the mainstay of current historical events is fascist plutocracy building a fascist police state, which will nevertheless still fail to actually resolve the real problems.
As many other previous articles have outlined before in Zero Hedge, the ending of the American Dollar as the global reserve currency will have devastating effects upon the majority of ordinary Americans! In my opinion, the American economy is being deliberately destroyed, while there are no effective ways to prevent that from happening. Therefore, one expects that the foreseeable future will become more and more average Americans being provoked into desperation. After all, the only ways that the plutocrats appear to have actually prepared for the future is to prepare to impose democidal martial law. However, that is practically guaranteed to spin out of control more than one can imagine ...
Meanwhile, of course, there is a long list of other potential man-made and natural disasters, which could pile up on top of each other, within the foreseeable future. There is NOTHING that society as a whole is doing to prepare for those sorts of events, other than prepare for democidal martial law. In that context, my view is that it is imperative to try to remember "the entire history of the world."
Nobody who reads Zero Hedge articles consistently could doubt that the American economy has gone past debt slavery into debt insanity. Nothing in the "Occupy Movements" that I became aware of proposed any realistic solutions to that debt insanity situation. Personally, I can not imagine anything else than the debt insanities eventually forcing death insanities. Therefore, I think it would be best to try to understand how and why that happened, so that when it happens we may be able to catalyze those transformations, so that they PERHAPS do not get as bad as they otherwise would, and we MIGHT be able to recover better from those events.
At present, the established systems have NO SOLUTIONS to the debt insanities, than MOAR debt insanity! Most people who think about that suggest that will eventually destroy the American Dollar, for instance, check out previous articles from Ron Paul or Kyle Bass, etc.. Some conclude that is being deliberately done. Although that is not clearly found in any of the main articles, that view is found in many comments.
Many agree that the debt slavery becoming debt insanity process is on an exponential growth curve, which means that the psychotic breakdowns, and collapse into chaos, are not too far away in the future. If so, then the most probable result is that the debt insanities ARE going to provoke death insanities. However, nothing that I was aware of being publicly presented in the Occupy Movements, nor any other significant protests that I became aware of, actually addressed the issues of the possible death insanities in ways which have a better overall theory of death controls, within a better overall theory of artificial selection. In that way, "the entire history of the world" IS recapitulating itself!
None of the old-fashioned kinds of political protests, such as the "Occupy Movements," did anything to stop the runaway debt slavery turning into debt insanities. Nobody who refuses to face the basic facts that money is measurement backed by murder, or that the debt controls were backed by the death controls, is going to be able to fully face the facts that runaway debt insanities are going to provoke death insanities.
Of course, there actually WILL BE SOLUTIONS "to the fuckedupness that is the current state of humanity." I believe that the only theoretically possible better solutions would require enough people understanding the problems better, regarding "the entire history of the world," that created the situation we are now in, where those "SOLUTIONS" ARE going to become death insanities, because there comes a point where the prognosis of a terminal illness is to die ... Then the issue is whatever MIGHT be born, or emerge afterwards?
At least on Zero Hedge there are some people who are aware of that problem, although none that I am aware of proposing plausible solutions, since the only genuinely plausible solutions are those which I have outlined above, of attempting to ride through the tsunamis of debt insanities provoking death insanities. IF so, then having a better understanding of "the entire history of the world" is the best way to PERHAPS mitigate the death insanities, or PERHAPS recover from those better.
Since none of the old-fashioned kinds of protesting are able to stop the debt slavery having already turned into debt insanities, those old-fashioned ideas are quite useless to deal with the death insanities that are probably going to be provoked. In that context, I bothered to respond to this article above, at length, because I believe it is extremely important to recognize that there is no kind of old-fashioned protesting that is going to stop the already established debt insanities being on their exponential growth trajectory.

OWS was orchestrated by big money as a way to open a valve to release tension. It quickly became a joke with "protesters" feasting on gourmet food and having no real goals. OWS exposed the ignorance of those who claim to be against the system. Their hypocrisy was immediately revealed as they used diesel powered generators to charge their iPhones and laptops to document their own hypocrisy. When it became clear that they were so comfortable that they wouldn't go away, they were swept aside. There was no resilience which is why they were so easily defeated. OWS was a canard. Its quick demise showed just how weak any opposition to the status quo really is.
OWS changed the national conversation. The Powers that Be were genuinely frightened and worked hard to control it and shut it off, ending in a coordinated national police action..
It was a rehersal, for us and for them.
Interesting posts...especially on the co-opting of genuine/passionate participants as 'controlled opposition'. No doubt there are many strategies in place by TPTB to neuter, diffuse, exhaust, divert any genuine attempts to effect a grass-roots or ground-up change to the deeply deply embedded system that skims so much from so many for the direct benefit of so few. I posit that similar (but opposite) strategy as say, Maidan, where genuine public grievance with the corrupt Yanukovych government was 'hijacked' or at least 'led by the nose' by US funded NGO/fascist actors.

I read at the time that he was the son of a prominent family, possibly named Greenburg, who have been active in making and disseminating 'opinion forming' publicity and possibly policy. I've just spent an hour searching for ANY reference to the guy's identity, using every criteria I can think of, and nix. Looks like the net is scrubbed of it. Like many here on ZH, I have no idea how and when the reset will become obvious. I believe it's way far more advanced than most of us can comprehend. This weekend's reading was on the dynamics of the social/economic/environmental feedback circle that can't be squared without a dramatic widening shift of human (and consequently omniversal) consciousness. His conclusion "encouraging us to enjoy life despite the catastrophe he fears is coming" reminded me of Guy McPherson http://guymcpherson.com/ who presents one of the most dismal views of the future of any environmental scientist.
Of course, I tend to say that economics is the dismal science, and ecology is dismal science squared, while combining economics with ecology results in dismal science cubed.
In that long interview with Catton that you linked, at about the 31:35 mark, Catton makes the correct points about the ways that specialization of labour has become like the human systems have people who act like species. However, he does not carry that through with enough of the rigorous and radical examination of those "species."
If one looks at real death controls, backing debt controls, then it becomes clearer how social pyramid systems are systems of organized crime, conducted by 'specialized' people who back up lies with violence, that are what control society to behave in criminally insane ways. Of course, those who thus ended up being controlled are equally components of the whole human ecology system. Those who dominate the political economy by frauds, which are enforced by governments, co-evolved with those who adapted to live within the enforced frauds.
As always there are at least two deeper levels here. First, there are the deceitful death controls, and second, there is the necessity for death controls. The same analysis applies to money actually being measurement backed by murder, as money existed because measurement and murder actually existed.
The genuinely "better" resolutions require that there be some people who can operate some better death control. Current problems stem from those who "specialized" in warfare, and then finance, were most "successful" by being most deceitful and fraudulent, and hence, the "success" expanded to control the opposition. The current problems are death controls done through the maximum possible deceits, opposed by those who who promote the various impossible ideals about that.
Not all specializations were equal, although certainly human civilization was largely about specializations, that made society become similar to some ecologies, in which there were different species in their niches. In those ways, the study of biological evolutions applied to understand human cultural evolutions.
Given life, then the death controls direct ways that the life evolves, and that may equilibrate? Human civilizations became hyper-complicated because of ways that natural selections became internalized as intelligence which was applied through warfare and finance in the maximized deceits and frauds as being most "successful." The degree to which that was triumphant resulted in their controlled "opposition" being neutralized. Instead of political debates about better death control, we have the death controls done via maximum deceits, "opposed" by those who assert there should not be any. Therefore, we face that double whammy set of dilemmas!
The most necessary thing is better death controls, BUT the degree to which the best death controls were done via deceits, which also wrapped their "opposition" in, makes genuinely better resolutions of our problems become practically impossible, in current politics! Theoretically, we NEED better artificial selection, which necessarily has better death controls as the core to that.
