President Obama To Dictate His New 'Executive Action' On Immigration Reform - Live Feed

Tyler Durden's picture

It's been a busy day for President Obama and he needs a win... a bright shiny PR moment, surrounded with immigrant children explaining how he is the Pied Piper that will save them all from the despotic servitude they come from. In an unplanned press conference President Obama will address his immigration reform at 1450ET through executive action. No lesser man than Cantor-buster Dave Brat opined that the President's policies "sound nice", like "the Kids’ Act, the DREAM Act, the ENLIST Act," but did little to address the growing influx of children. “The reason we have those thousands crossing the border is because of poor policy in the first place,” Brat added. We are sure Obama disagrees - besides, this has to be good for GDP, right? - The Broken Border Fallacy.

Live Feed

And then there's this...

As NYDailyNews reports,

President Barack Obama will seek more than $2 billion to respond to the flood of immigrants illegally entering the U.S. through the Rio Grande Valley area of Texas and ask for new powers to deal with returning immigrant children apprehended while traveling without their parents, a White House official said Saturday.

Obama looking to Congress for help with what he has called an “urgent humanitarian situation,”

Obama will also ask that the Homeland Security Department be granted the authority to apply “fast track” procedures to the screening and deportation of all immigrant children traveling without their parents and that stiffer penalties be applied to those who smuggle children across the border, the official said. Obama’s requests were reported first by The New York Times.

Meanwhile, Pelosi said immigrants’ cases should be handled on a case-by-case basis.

“We don’t want our good nature abused by those who would misrepresent what’s happening in the United States on the subject of immigration to affect how we deal with a refugee problem,” she said.

Let's see now: The gubmint thinks catching illegal immigrants and treating them better than what they had at home prior to returning them to their country is a good deterrent to prevent even more illegal immigration.

I wonder when the Obama logo of the sun coming up over the valley will start being worn as an arm-band during these speeches.

It's sure to be accompanied by the OK Obama® salute: right arm fully extended forward (kind of like the way they did it in those old black & white newsreel clips as seen on The History Channel (...where the past is history)) except with the thumb and index finger touching at the fingertips like an 'OK' hand gesture, while simultaneously clicking the heels together smartly (unless wearing golf cleats) and loudly saying "OK" in a manner reminiscent of a boot camp soldier responding "yes sir" to his drill instructor.

"President Obama created an American utopia that young mexicans and hondruans risk their lives to reach, so yes he "created a problem"."

I suspect a major factor is the War in Afghanistan. With the removal of the Taliban, poppy production has soared. As a result, Heroin consumption in America has greatly increased, at the cost of an equivelent decrease in Cocaine consumption.

With the quantity of Cocaine consumed in America dropping nearly 50%, the revenues have collapsed. Honduras has been the biggest loser in this transition, with an astronomical homicide rate for several years running now.

Meanwhile, the financial system has shut out the drug lords, who are no longer able to launder their money and spend it into their local economies - like that Mexican drug lord who had $18 Billion USD in paper bills stacked in his mansion.

Whether increased immigration is an intended consequence or unintended side-effect of the Afghan war, who knows.

Troopers say the impact of the crash killed Diaz' passenger, Luiz Ruiz, 28, of Asheville.NCHP says it appears the doors of the car pushed inward and crushed Ruiz.

Troopers say instead of stopping, Diaz kept driving for almost 11 miles and abandoned his car with Ruiz' body inside on the side of I-26 near Upward Road. A trooper found the abandoned car on I-26 around 6:30 a.m. NCHP says after leaving the scene, Diaz called someone to pick him up.

Duh, going the legal above-board route is only an option if you're a multimillionaire and want to deal with endless bureaucratic bullshit. Destroy the price discovery mechanism. Destroy the ability of markets to clear. Destroy free trade. Destroy private commerce. If people are too stupid to see how everything they've asked for from the government, and everything they failed to deny to it, in the last 100 years led them to this state, they duly deserve it.

Cloward Piven.

You just turn them the fuck away at the border and make them Mexico's problem...

So we spend 2 billion more to bankrupt the system when it is cheaper to let the militias who want to enforce the border backstop the DHS through community policing of the border (which it should be in the first fucking place).

I doubt that any of these illegal border crossing minors have identification on them.

Obama should simply inform the Mexican Government that ALL will be immediately returned to Mexico under the assumption that they are indeed Mexican Citizens without papers.

Mexico can deal with the issue of it's domestic law breakers and it's border problem.

All of this has been an "in your face" agenda from early on. While you have to give them credit for their accomplishments thus far, I still think their main effort is to solicit some egregious act that can be firmly put on the heads of conservatives (not republicans for they are their needed foil). An act of violence that can be used to advance:

Gun control

limits of freedom of speech, especially by right wing reactionary groups and talking heads obviously fomenting violence

capital controls to stop funding for domestic "terrorist" groups

implementation of US military forces for domestic security

further unrestricted governmental growth on all fronts

its war after all.

All Employment Growth Since 2000 Went to Immigrants

Number of U.S. Born Not Working Grew by 17 Million

By: Steven A. Camarota and Karen Zeigler

"Job Americans Don’t Do? As we have seen in Table 2, immigrants made gains across the labor market. Looking at broad occupations as shown in that table makes clear that there are tens of millions of natives employed in the occupational cat- egories where immigrants have found jobs in the last 14 years. Thus, part of the reason immigration is likely to adversely impact the employment of some natives is that, contrary to the assertion of some, immigrants often do the same jobs. In an earlier report we examined all 472 civilian detailed occupations as defined by the Department of Commerce. We found only six were majority immigrant (legal and illegal). These six occupations account for 1 percent of the total U.S. workforce. Many jobs often thought to be overwhelmingly immigrant are in fact majority native-born. For example, 51 percent of maids and housekeepers are U.S.-born, as are 63 percent of butchers and meat processors. It is also the case that 64 percent of grounds maintenance workers are U.S.-born, as are 66 percent of construction laborers and 73 percent of janitors.23 It is simply not the case that there are jobs that Americans do not do.

Over the last 14 years employment growth has not come close to matching natural population growth and the number of immigrants allowed to settle in the country — legally and illegally. What employment growth there has been has all gone to immigrants. This is the case even though natives accounted for two-thirds of the growth in the working-age population (16 to 65). Though there has been some modest recovery from the Great Recession, there were still fewer working-age natives holding a job in 2014 than in 2000; and the number not working was 17 million larger in the first quarter of 2014 than in the first quarter of 2000.

With a near-record 58 million natives of working-age (16 to 65) not working and 10.5 million working-age immigrants not working, there would seem to be an enormous supply of potential workers already in the country. Although there has been a slight recovery in recent years among natives, the employment rate (share actually working) shows a long-term decline over the last 14 years. The share of natives holding a job is well below the level in 2007 or 2000 for virtually every education level, race, gender, and age. Equally important, the labor force participation of natives (share working or looking for work) shows no improvement at all since the jobs recovery began. If employers are looking for college graduates; young workers; less-educated workers; older, more experienced workers; or practically any other type of worker, the potential supply would seem to be enormous.

Some may think that immigrants and natives never compete for jobs. But a majority of workers in virtually every occupation are native-born. Immigrants have made gains across the labor market in lower-, middle-, and higher-skilled jobs. Thus the idea that there are jobs Americans don’t do is simply not supported by the data.

While the extent to which immigrants displace natives from the labor market is debated in the academic literature, there are several things we can say based on the last 14 years. More than one million new immigrants arrived in the country every year since 2000. The long-term decline in employment among natives is certainly supportive of the research showing that immi- gration reduces employment among the native-born. In contrast, the last 14 years challenge the argument that immigration on balance significantly increases job opportunities for natives. There is no question that immigration has not stimulated the economy enough to create job growth among working-age natives and prevent a dramatic decline in employment rates and labor force participation. There is certainly no question that high levels of immigration go hand in hand with a profound deterioration in native-born employment.

Even if one ignores the last 14 years and believes that immigration stimulates the economy to create a net increase in jobs for natives, then the same should be true when natives are added to the workforce by moving from not working to working. Some may respond that natives do not want to work. But the U-6 employment rate indicates that millions not working do, in fact, want to work. There is also anecdotal evidence that many natives simply have given up looking for work because the job market is so bad. When this happens, they cease to show up in the U-3 or even the U-6 unemployment rate. Moreover, many natives currently not working were doing so as recently as 2007. Given the abysmal employment and labor force participation rates, particularly of the native-born, it is difficult to take at face value assertions by employer groups that workers are in short supply or to justify the dramatic increase in immigration levels in the Schumer-Rubio bill (S.744)."

No, unfortunately it is more base than that. As we see with Obamacare, the Republicans like power as much as anyone else. They just can't admit it publicly as the left does. They have to couch it as compromise while giggling to themselves with glee at their new found fortune. They are very content as the minority party. They can stamp their feet loudly at every unconstitutional injustice, claiming no part of it, while enjoying the perks of their power and position. The left enjoys having them along because they are such an easy dupe, taking the blame for just about every malady of society. They were holding the Democrats back, allowing programs to go forward but always restricting the spending just enough to prevent the program from reaching its "potential". The left just simply loves them.

No, the Republicans are very pleased with where they find themselves today, the loyal opposition. Only fearing the conservatives from pointing out their complicit contributions. The Republicans will fight to destroy the conservatives far harder than any Democrat. Most of them have safe seats, money paid to ensure they don't have to do anything except make noise, and they are not going to let a bunch of noisy conservatives start making people demand accountability and action. It ain't going to happen.

What politicians say they'll do and what they do are two different matters - regardless of party.  Obama and Boehner are masters of that strategy.  You can count consistent honest politicians on one hand.

Obama is the Republican's punching bag.  They let him stray away from the Constitution so they have a argument to make at election time.  Meanwhile knowing they can use the powers created by Obama when they have the office or house or senate.   Bush was/is Democrat's punching bag.

In terms of damage over the years to the country and the USD it's pretty well even money on R's and D's.  Both parties are FULLY damaged goods.

Personally I believe both parties follow an agenda set by their masters the corporate empire, and BS the public like a sleezy con men.  So in that regard, R's probably admire Obama when he gets his banker/criminals off the hook.  Shame on the majority of American's that are so gulible to let this go own for 100+ years.

EDIT Republicans need to support Amnesty so their MONEY donors can hire 'off the books labor'.  That is why there are cycles on amnesty grants and never border protection by either party.  Illegal immigrants is good for business - particulary hotels, agriculture, and sweat shops.  BOTH parties need illegals.

Anglo-Dutch business philosophy is to reduce costs through lowering labor costs and off shoreing, and stealing third world resources, to increase profits, it is a lot cheaper than innovating on a regular basis.  Illegal immigrants fit the model, as slavery fit the bill the century before.

Let me make sure I have this straight. Am I to understand by this that President Obama is trying to get out in front of the populist backlash concerning immigration by announcing this plan to round up and deport illegal alien minors? That is the so-called "optics" motivating his speech, correct?

Now why, I ask you, would anybody believe this for a moment? The Democratic Party is the universal public face of open borders ideology. They own this problem lock, stock, and barrel. I'm one of the ones who still happens to believe that it does make a difference which party you vote for, and I'm calling on all Republicans to stick this to Obama and hammer it home. Do not take this lying down. I think the American people are sick to death of illegal immigrants and will rally in droves behind any Republican candidate who is serious about closing the border.

Do not fall for Obama's optics. Stand up and say that you were for closing the border long before he was for it. Say, "Heck, I was for closing the border when he was still shipping AKs to drug lords." Obama has given us more than enough to dirt to smear him with. Now it is time to make him own it, for crying out loud.

Hold Obama responsible, you Republcans! DO IT!

The backlash is here.  The statistics are attrocious.  The borders must be shuttered and the illegals sent home.

The frontiers are full up and there is no more free land to homestead.

There can be no stabilization of demand until there is stabiliization of supply = wages cannot rise until the supply of labor is stabilized.
