Government Stops Glenn Greenwald from Publishing His Big Snowden Revelation … But Others to Release ALL of the Snowden Docs

George Washington's picture

It’s been a dramatic day for whistleblowing news.

A month ago, Glenn Greenwald announced that he was going to publish his biggest story yet:  the names of those the NSA has been spying on.

Earlier today, Greenwald tweeted that he would finally publish the story tonight at midnight.

8 hours later, he tweeted:

After 3 months working on our story, USG [the United States government] today suddenly began making new last-minute claims which we intend to investigate before publishing

Many responded that it’s  a trap, and that the government is dishonestly and illegally censoring Greewald.

At the same time, Cryptome announced that all of the Snowden documents will be released in July … supposedly in order to avert a war.

As the Register notes:

All the remaining Snowden documents will be released next month, according to whistle-blowing site Cryptome, which said in a tweet that the release of the info by unnamed third parties would be necessary to head off an unnamed “war”.

Cryptome said it would “aid and abet” the release of “57K to 1.7M” new documents that had been “withheld for national security-public debate [sic]“.

The site clarified that will not be publishing the documents itself.

***

“July is when war begins unless headed off by Snowden full release of crippling intel. After war begins not a chance of release,” Cryptome tweeted on its official feed. “Warmongerers are on a rampage. So, yes, citizens holding Snowden docs will do the right thing,” it said.

“For more on Snowden docs release in July watch for Ellsberg, special guest and others at HOPE, July 18-20: http://www.hope.net/schedule.html,” it added.

Given that - from ancient Egypt to modern America - mass surveillance has ALWAYS been used to crush dissent, and that top NSA officials say the U.S. gov has turned into the Stasis, Nazis or Soviets, release of the Snowden documents showing WHO the NSA is really targeting (i.e. government critics, not terrorists) are of vital public interest.

I'll put one round of my 30-06 against 10,000 rounds of their 40S&W anyday.  In every day life, pistols are for "just in case" and in SHTF, they are for fighting your way back to your rifle.  There's more of us than there are of them, and WE are their logistical machine.

14.6 million licensed hunters in the United States as of 2013.  I usually post the link.  States like Penn have just under 1 million.  NY State haas almost 600,000.   How many of these hunters have 30-06/.308 scoped rifles?  I bet 70+% or .223 or some other variant.

Reach out and touch someone.

And how many of them would dream of using them against the US government? In any scenario?

In the last 100 years, the USG has confiscated gold, prohibited alcohol, and thrown people into cages for injesting the 'wrong' kind of plane, and the citizenry have done zilch.

logistical nightmare  (which is why they will only come for you last)

When the SHTF the entire world is quickly going to become a very different place. If I had to guess I would say that putting down civil unrest in urban areas will be their top priority because that is where the threads of societal cohesiveness will unravel first and in the most dangerous way.. After all with these sociopaths it's always about excercising power and control over the masses at any price.

If you are in a rural location and mostly minding your own business they will only come for you once they have "taken care" of the rest... which I think is a battle they will ultimately lose so you should be safe initially.  And if they do lose control it's going to be violent gangs (probably headed by well armed former cops etc.) that will be heading your way.

Make sure to keep your head down and don't have anything they desperately want and you should do OK. Oh... and carry a big stick just in case...

Yes, nightmare, but it is either that or outright collapse without a clampdown first, which is also a nightmare.  I don't see a way around it.  If we do get the clampdown scenario, the US will likely lose a huge chunk of its oil supply.  Industry doesn't work very well in war torn areas and the dollar will be shit.  Choices will need to be made - e.g. run the forces that are clamping down, or produce food. Even if everybody sits on their asses and does nothing, the sociopaths are in a no-win situation when it comes to maintaining control because of resource constraints.  But everybody who lives in a region that cannot produce enough food to feed its people is in a no-win situation too.

We live in interesting times, and they're going to get even more interesting.

If I were holding their cards I would opt for a global war first in an attempt to inflate out of the inevitable ponzi collapse and unify the nation while securing global resources if possible. This is their dream and only chance for success which is quickly becoming a longshot. They need to start this with the economy still functioning due to the insurmountable issue of global supply chain collapse if the banks go down first. (We saw a little of this when Fukushima stalled automotive and other production around the world when parts made there didn't get sent out). If the banks go down first the game is already over before it begins and every nation is left to make due with only what it has NOW. That is why I like pipelines and coal fired power plants and Columbia river aquaducts to California...

Oil availabilty is the top national interest while food production and access is the most important to the individual. The importance of providing farm credit and access to fuel, seed and fertilizer can not to overstated. (One knows this if they have been in the agriculture industry)

“Control oil and you control nations; control food and you control the people.”

~ Henry Kissinger

You can say what you want about Henry but he is certainly no idiot.

Which is why I am continually asking people a very important question:  "Do you know where your food was produced?"  I also tell them to start looking at the packaging of food at the grocery store to look for "Product of China."

Its a global economy that the neolibs built without ever thinking about sustainability in times of crisis. It will prove to be the death of the most dependant nations.

I will sorely miss the fruit and veggies out of season but at least our high agricultural productivity can keep us all alive and fed if they want us to be that is but California is going to need a secure supply of water.

I have several Chinese friends who will never eat any agricultural produce shipped from China. Growing your own and learning to preserve it is always the best option.

Now I just have to find a way to keep the fucking rabbits out of my kale...

Funny you mention that. Moments ago I sprayed my squash and cucumbers for those sorry sob's. Last year my great old neighbor hooked me up with the organic way to nuke them. Palmolive dish soap mixed @ ~1:8 in a pimp sprayer. Those exoskeloton bastards can't breathe through the soap. Smells good too.

Rabbits / kale - make a habenero mix and spray it down. Or a .22LR. That works too

Yesterday I posted a link from freedomoutpost. There was some fundamentalist Christian stuff, but what caught my attention was the video of UN vehicles being transported & even more so a UN jobs opening for demobilization & disarmament.  If you're curious. FEMA anyone?

Well... the doers meet every Saturday morning at the Starfucks 2 miles from my spread. If you shoot a ferrari, you got one. Other than that if you execute anyone in the gated communities around that cesspool, you got one.

Is this hard for you? Just head over to the country club, or yacht club, or courthouse. Follow the money.

Wouldn't it be faster, easier, and cheaper to simply publish the list of people they are not surveilling?

You would find that you would have no legal standing to challenge the government as those files are still technically "classified".

Global Zionism, right in your face but hard to see. Good luck everyone time is running out. ZH still pushing the "bumbling idiots" meme and not the reality. Financial collapse, ISIS, Ukraine all set to blow at once.

In unrelated news, Glenn won a trillion dollar lottery and has recently struck up a romance with Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise. His schedule is so busy as of late, he may not be able to get around to this.
