WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Washington Post said on Saturday a study of a large collection of communications intercepted by the U.S. National Security Agency showed that ordinary Internet users, including Americans, far outnumbered legally targeted foreigners caught in the surveillance.
"Nine of 10 account holders found in a large cache of intercepted conversations, which former NSA contractor Edward Snowden provided in full to The Post, were not the intended surveillance targets but were caught in a net the agency had cast for somebody else," the Post said.

well, our nation's birthday and authur -- a storm fit for a king -- have both passed over cape cod, leaving in their wake a litter of confetti and wind-strewn detritus, respectively. and they both bring to mind an insoluble quandary that pits janus against most of the rest.
i can but only continue to defend my position, as i've yet to see anything emergent that could either soften or assuage my resolve. most are still stubbornly convinced that what's needed is a savior; someone or some movement to restore something that was particular to a specific people and developed under favorable (though temporal) conditions.
i long for a destroyer. none of this shit's worth saving. whether it be fiat-banking, corporateocracy, the police/security/spying apparatus, our vacuous and depraved 'culture', the vilification of and hostility to good & decent citizens, our system of institutionalization...i mean 'education'...the triumph of mediocrity through the the authority of grid-like bureaucracy, the total subversion of media, poisonous frankenfoods...on and on and & on & on it goes. and it's all irrevocably tethered together; and you still want to salvage it? are you all suffering from collective delusion?

not long ago, i came across the queerest of discoveries. it seems that arsenic addiction and abuse was rampant in victorian days (and for a lil while afterward). strange, i know, but it seems to be true. i did some research on the matter and i came away with three conclusions.
1) people, on the main, are impossibly stupid -- and, by and large, they have always been so.
2) the effects of mild arsenic poisoning sound interesting, and janus would be interested in trying it...and, i suppose that its atomic # being 33 did in some way stoke my curiosity.
3) the world is now properly prepared for the introduction and chronic consumption of what is sure to be the most popular soda in all of history -- Arsenic Cola!

Now I am starting to understand your writing style Janus. Talk about stream of conscience. Very James Joyce. I respect what you are saying. I really wish there was a way to go unfuck the system but there isn't. I like following procedures as to how to fix something. There is no procedure for fixing human nature and that is what drives us damn near to batshit crazy.
There is a reason we all congregate on WB7's boards and that reason is that we see things as they are. They tell us the sky can never be blue but we know it can be because we have seen it. There is no question that WB7's board attracts the best bloggers.(of which I am not) But there is a reason we follow him and each with our own strong abilities. And maybe we are not always the same but still we make the same points in our own way. It is our way to tell everyone else to FUCK OFF. If that is what it is going to take then so be it.

I really wish I had a solution but the only thing I know is that we need to keep going no matter how tattered and torn we get becuase one day it might matter. Of note, this sort of resistance has been done before throughout history. It just seems that we, humans, seem to need to keep doing the same thing over and over again to each other throughout recorded history.
You only get to live a for a little while in the entire scheme of things. That vision of the grand scale is our personal hell and we see it for what it is. Can we make people less stupid? I am not sure we can. I tried twice and could only offer a napkin to wipe the spittle from the electorates mouths.

you make a fair point. but i should note that causation and the empirical specificities of this or that thing are not my concern. let's say i'm using cloward/piven as a canard, or possibly even a foil -- inasmuch as they're (it's) fresh on ZHealots minds. additionally, there is a great deal of validity in my association. by that i mean to say, if you think that corporatocracy and mendacious think-tankers are independent entities, or that they haven't for long colludeded against americans, their liberties and their outsized wages, well, i'd say your thinking on these things is naive and simplistic.

Well, I would have to say I had an interesting day today. A good day. It all started when we took to the kids to a parade and that was alright. Yesterday, I had heard on the AM radio that there was B-17 in town. I am a bit of an aviation geek because I just love everything about flying. While at the parade that B-17 flew over twice and it was so cool. Think about it; when is the last time that you ever saw a B-17 pass overhead? Sure you have all heard of them but you rarely see them.
I was wearing my old Ron Paul rEVOLution T-shirt, my ZH ballcap and my "Republicans Against The War" button, which carefully covers a small stain, while in attendence. I figured that if I was going to to go then I would go all in. Good grief there sure were a lot of cops at that parade. I, of course, would be a target but managed to avoid that and the kids and I didn't make any issues other than smoking my hand rolled cigs right there on the curb. People got weird about that. But what are you going to say to a guy wearing a Ron Paul shirt and ZH hat who is a smoking a hand rolled cig on Independence Day? Just be default you can fuck off! People just moved away from me even though I had showered, with soap, just a few hours before.
Trust me, I really hate this kind of parade shit but sometimes you have to take one for the team and in this case it was the kids. But I kept seeing that B-17 flying overhead though. That plane was calling my name. I knew that I to go see it. A flying museum? Really? I am a sucker for museums because I just have to go see what it was all about. So we did go over to the regional airport and saw a bunch more cops but got by them without incident because I needed to see that plane. We got started on an old Stearman trainer bi-plane who owner was really protective being as we had kids with. As we got to talking, he got way more freindly. Especially after I noted that his radial engine had been rebuilt and was not even leaking oil. Anyone who knows anything about radial engine knows that they leak oil...and a lot of it. That was a very nice plane.
My Ron Paul shirt and button attracted attention from the EAA volunteers. I would say that it was positive attention. These aviation enthusiasts are not young men and they are all veterans and volunteers. They do what they still do because they love it and they pour money into their old planes. I saw that the Stearman's exterior had been recently redone and I had to ask how much that cost. 17 grand for that job and he did some work himself. I didn't even want ask about the engine rebuild cost!
On to the B-17. It is a labor of love for these guys and I fully respect them for keeping the few of these birds flying. This bird is named Aluminum Overcast and it even has a wiki about it. That plane is unbelievable in so many ways. That plane was so amazing and we got to go inside and see what it was like. It is no 747 to say the least. Now that I have seen the inside with my own eyes, it was no luxury liner. At this point I was stopped by another EAA voluteer who asked if my Ron Paul shirt was too old now. He was friendly though and said he liked Ron Paul. He just wanted to talk about the state of America these days and I will leave it at that.
Once we got inside of the plane, you really got the feel of what it must have been like. It really had to suck hind tit to try try to fight in one of those planes. Yeah, they have plenty of guns, which of course I had to play with even though it said "Do Not Touch" on them but the range is limited. I sat at the radiomans's station and I wanted to play with the radio for some reason. I really didn't want to touch anything though. I didn't want to break anything.
The best thing that happened is when I went into the cockpit and found another EAA volunteer. He was an old man and we got to talking. Turns out he was 94 years old and a pilot of a B-17 on bombing raids over Germany. Once again my old ratty Ron Paul shirt gave me some credence. The man realized that I knew what was going on because I asked why one engine was different than the other three. Hey, not many folks would notice that type of thing. We talked more for a bit after we had shaken hands and he looked me straight in the eyes and said "Keep doing what you are doing and thank you for showing interest". I shook his hand again and thanked him and do you know what? He gave me a pat on the back. We don't get that kind of thing too often.
Berfore we left I had to ask man how much it costs to fill this plane up and he said that there were two 400 gallon tanks in the wings and two 300 gallon tank in the back. I had to ask if it was running 100LL fuel.(100LL is 100 octane low lead aviation fuel) and he replied that, no that the engines were meant to run 114 octane high lead gasoline. He also said that those engines will burn an average of 200 gallons of fuel per hour. It boggles the mind to consider how much going to war actually costs.
So a few hours ago we take the kids to go to the fireworks display. St. Cloud does not tax subsidize the fireworks... it is all from donations. It's a damned good show too. The one problem I had is that I couldn't see the fireworks for all the flashing red and blue lights. The cops were everywhere and fucking with people who were doing nothing wrong. Sirens and shit blaring all over and they even brought the State Patrol. Pulling people over for no reason and asking for ID. We don't need that shit around here. Hey what about the local cops? They won't do anything unless something serious happens. Never saw a St Cloud cop anywhere, it was all state patrol going full Nazi. I have no problems with the local cops and they seem to do their job well. It makes a guy wonder if it was all worth it just to get to this point where the state steps in everywhere. It makes you wonder if all of those guys who died, supposedly for our country, did so in vain. I would hate to think that way but let's be realistic. I see what I see with my own eyes and will not write otherwise.

I will bite on this one. Do I need to post my resume somewhwere on ZH to let everyone know what I have already done? I really don't think you are off point by your post but I do beleive that you may have misunderstood. I have some pride in the fact that I was part of the Ron Paul Revolution. I, and a few others like me, took it to the extreme and became officers in the GOP. You want to talk about a procedural fight? We carried on until 2012 and gave it go again. That is, in my opinion, being very hardcore.
I am not sure what else you want me to do. When you try to fight agsint the machine you are up agaisnt the wall bigtime. I was a Treasurer so I saw where the money cam from and where it went. You can not lie to me and tell me any different and that fact is scary to a lot of politicos and CEO's. Don't piss on my leg and tell me it is raining.
For what is worth, we destroyed the Republican party in 2008 and 2012. How do you think you have BO running ths shitshow. We knew the guy would spend. ANd that is the only thing that we can do because we understood the bonds and bomb markets. Now look how it goes. Gotta buy a t-bill right?
It all points to the real problem which is central banking. To your point, yes, the corporations are a huge part of the problem. Look at any of of their human resources departments for example. What a hive of nitwit crabby old incompetent women. Let me get this sparkling clear for you, ALL RON PAULERS LOST THEIR CORPORATE JOBS, myself included. They got rid of us and thought that by cutting off our funding that they would stop us. Well, they did stop some in this way but I am still going.

I can not even think of one person who still works for the same company they were with at the the start of the campaign. Not one single person made it through.

Problem is for many, they do not now how to deal with it is the "security" of their current lives are threatened economically or socially. They are not used to standing up fr what they may believe in, they are too used to waiting in lineand doing what they are told.
Obama says the USA is a nation of laws, too many ofthem as far as am concerned and too many people are following the laws blindly and not questioning whether they benefit them or society at all.

He's a had a devil of time raising as much money this time around as he did last time due to his failure to come even close. The darned free market, unlike government work, requires performance to keep the money flowing.

As I remember, and I am on just about every Democrat and Republican money raising list that exiasts, the Republicans raise money saying that they are going to cut government size, spending, regulations and taxes. Never happened. Government grew including spending and regulations(!) when the GOP controlled the Presidency and both houses of Congress.
Now you want me to give money to a a big government Harvard professor on his promise that it will only be used to get money out of politics. Now that sounds like a "Dream Act," all too likely to wind up a Nightmare Act. The idea of electing left wing loons whose "hearts are the right place" but who will ultimately find they need to stay on and on and on, all in the name of fighting the "good fight" against all those "other" politicians does not sit well. Remember the Term Limit movement to elect citizen office holders who would move on after only one or two terms. That sure worked out well (sarc). Few who ran on term limit platforms ever stuck to their promises of limiting their terms.
