US Set To Alienate Angry Germany Next, As Crackdown Shifts From BNP To Commerzbank, Deutsche Bank

As we reported over the weekend in "By "Punishing" France, The US Just Accelerated The Demise Of The Dollar", following the record $9 billion fine against French BNP, the outcry has been fast and furious, with virtually everyone in the local chain of command, from the CEO of Total to the head of the Bank of France (and ECB member) Christian Noyer, all saying that the US is now clearly abusing the reserve power of the dollar and it is time to move away from a dollar-based reserve currency (how that jives with concurrent French demands for a lower EUR is a different, incomprehensible matter entirely).

It appears that having pushed France forcefully into the Russia-China Eurasian, and anti-US camp, the US will now do the same with Germany. Because after infuriating the German population by first refusing to return their gold contained (the legend goes) at the New York Fed, and then with scandal after spying scandal, most recently involving the CIA directly soliciting a German double agent, now the time has come to "punish" Germany's largest banks for the same kind of money laundering that BNP was engaged in. As the NYT and Reuters report, the time has come to shift away from the BNP scandal and focus on what will soon be the Commerzbank and Deutsche Bank fallout.

According to the NYT, the money laundering crackdown is "bound for another European financial center: Germany. State and federal authorities have begun settlement talks with Commerzbank, Germany’s second-largest lender, over the bank’s dealings with Iran and other countries blacklisted by the United States, according to people briefed on the matter. The bank, which is suspected of transferring money through its American operations on behalf of companies in Iran and Sudan, could strike a settlement deal with the state and federal authorities as soon as this summer, said the people briefed on the matter, who were not authorized to speak publicly.

The contours of a settlement, which the authorities have only begun to sketch out, are expected to include at least $500 million in penalties for Commerzbank, the people added. Although prosecutors were still weighing punishments, the people briefed on the matter said that the bank would most likely face a so-called deferred prosecution agreement, which would suspend criminal charges in exchange for the financial penalty and other concessions.

It's not just Commerzbank - a settlement with the smaller bank will merely pave the way for the punishment of the biggest bank of all (in terms of groiss derivative notional held): Deutsche Bank.

A potential deal with Commerzbank — which is expected to pave the way for a separate settlement with Deutsche Bank, Germany’s largest bank — would pale in comparison to the case announced last week against France’s biggest bank, BNP Paribas. The French bank agreed to pay a record $8.9 billion penalty and plead guilty to criminal charges for processing transactions on behalf of Sudan and other countries that America has hit with sanctions, a rare criminal action against a financial giant.

As NYT adds, correctly, "The Commerzbank investigation features an added twist: The bank is 17 percent owned by the German government. It is unclear whether — as in the BNP case, which led French authorities to intervene on the bank’s behalf — the settlement talks could inflame diplomatic tensions between Washington and Berlin."

Of course, since this is the ridiculous "scorched earth" diplomatic policy, if one may call it that, of the Obama administration, nobody is surprised any more that the US president is alienating one former ally after another.

As we first observed a few weeks ago when we revealed JPM's involvement in all of this money laundering, "some critics have questioned why American authorities have set their eye on European banks. The answer, authorities say, is that American banks by and large avoided processing transactions for Iran and Sudan. But American banks are not immune from touching dirty money. Citigroup’s Banamex unit is under investigation for processing money linked to a drug cartel. And in January, JPMorgan Chase reached a roughly $2 billion deal with the authorities over ignoring signs of the Ponzi scheme orchestrated by Bernard L. Madoff, who held accounts at the bank for over two decades."

Not only that but as we wrote over the weekend, the bank that was instrumental in facilitating BNP's money laundering for nearly a decade was none other than JPM. One wonders if JPM also "unwittingly" was the bank that made German money laundering around the globe possible. Did we mention unwittingly?

Still, while one can debate the idiocy of US foreign policy, eager to push European allies into the willing hands of Russia and China at the worst possible moment, when regional and civil wars and conflicts are suddenly breaking out across all key geopolitical hotspots, one wonders: in the case of BNP, the "fine" was as a result of French unwillingness to halt the Russian amphibious warship deal despite US demands. So it would be curious just what the US blackmail against German banks is for: one really does wonder just what punishment Angela Merkel deserves behind the scenes in the eyes of John Kerry et clueless al, to punish her and Germany so blatantly for the entire world to see.

One thing is clear: if the US thinks that Germany will continue to consider America its BFF and make zero contingency plans for when the alliance with the US finally crashes and burns, it will be truly surprised when the Eurasian alliance of Russia and China finally announces its final, all-important, missing link member: the manufacturing and export powerhouse that is Germany itself.

Chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes) are capable of extreme violence. They engage in inter-group, sometimes lethal, aggression that provides the winners with an opportunity to enlarge their territory, increase their food supply and, potentially, attract more mates. Lethal violence between adult males also occurs within groups but this is rare; to date, only four cases (three observed and one inferred) have been recorded despite decades of observation. In consequence, the reasons for within-group lethal violence in chimpanzees remain unclear. Such aggression may be rare due to the importance of coalitions between males during inter-group encounters; cooperation between males is also thought to be key in the defense or advancement of social rank within the group. Previous accounts of within-group lethal violence concern victims who were low-ranking males; here we provide the first account of the killing of an incumbent alpha male by a coalition of adult males from the same community. We found no clear evidence that the alpha male's position was under threat during the months before the lethal attack: the male dominance hierarchy was highly stable, with low rates of male–male aggression, and there were no significant changes in social interactions (i.e. grooming and aggression) between the alpha male and the other adult males. Germany will keep siding with the US as long as the US keeps the Petrodollar afloat and can exert pressure on the Bund. When this goes away, and the US cannot either pay for its military presence there, nor exert economic pressure on Germany, is the point when Germany (and all her "client" states) will go Eurasian and quickly.

At this point it will be interesting to see if Poland learns from history, or makes the same mistake again.

And Merkel is very chummy with Putin and is probably fed up with Obozo and his gay politics fucking up NATO.

Actually history doesn't. It does seem rather odd that in the 90's we were never going after Japanese banks when they had their back against the wall.

I get the feeling the EU isn't going to be around for much longer. They're more beholden to the petro dollar with that currency than anyone.

Given that the USA has the bulk of all their is wiping out there refinery has Tesla's, plus has energy costs that are in fact falling, plus have private energy companies that are scaled, plus a Federal Government that is all about the drilling, plus a war effort where we're barely containing the extremist we really don't care anymore, plus...

That is a confused mess disabledvet, really abstruse. Where you get your info. on the EU eludes me, it cannot be MSM in the US which couldn't find Berlaymont on a clear day. The EU might not be around but then neither will NATO and the US will be able to roll up its bases and that building site in Clay Kaserne in Mainz-Kastel can be repatriated to the NSA, and the $30 million shopping centre being built in WI-Hainerberg can be mothballed.

This is not a game the US can win. It simply does not have the ability to hold together its postwar order any longer. It is insolvent and top-heavy with institutional ignorance embodied in John McCain on one hand and Kerry and Nuland on the other. It is Amateur Hour and we thought Jimmy Carter and Andrew Young were hick........

The fact is the EU will probably survive because there is nowhere else to go. Britain is hardly relevant as it is a giant colony of the US run by puppets in London much as the Norman Overlords ran the place after 1066. Germany is tired of being occupied ....the Soviets left and went home.

With GPS being so deviant nowadays and some areas not even showing up maybe we should switch to GLONASS now that Russia and China are merging their GPS systems ?

still seems to be all by design to me.  These events may be part of the plan to instigate WWIII between us and our European ex-allies. 

The traitors in our government, the puppets of the globalists, may be thinking the sheeple are so retarded by now that they will believe the government story that we need to go to war against Europe because Russian, Germany, France, China, etc. are all waging monetary war against the American dollar which is causing all of the sheeples hardship, loss of jobs, lower wages, higher prices/inflation, etc.

The globalists, in their sick and twisted way, would love to see a war between us.  The formula has always worked in their favor before.  They pitted England and France against each other...the examples go on and on throughout history.

And only very few people know and understand how the .01% ruling banksters are always the ones behind the wars (Remember:  All Wars Are Banker Wars), and they always win and prosper and gain more power and wealth no matter who wins or loses the wars, right?  They have always survived behind the scenes to live on generation after generation in hidden rule and power over the rest of the matter what.

So maybe they grow bored of the current world set up and finally want to see America implode and lose a major war.  Maybe they just want to put us to the test after so many years since WWII to see how we would do against Europe, China and Russia all at once?  Who knows?  They win no matter the outcome and even if they want us to win and we lose or the other way around it matters not to them.  It's all part of the world-wide game to them.  We're just pawns in it.  Entire continents are pawns in their game, so what do they care? 

I mean, it's blatantly obvious America is being squeezed in the vice now from every single angle imaginable, are we not?  They're deliberately cornering us, and they know what happens to a trapped, cornered, desperate animal.  So maybe they want to see what our D.C. sociopaths will eventually do or what the American people will do when finally pushed too far.

And it's obvious that this same plan is being enacted against Europe and the Middle East as well. 

Maybe they know that they've created a fat, bloated, spoiled, ignorant, diseased society and they feel we need a kick in the ass and a punch in the face to wake us up and get us back on course again?  Who knows?  Maybe there are some good globalists who want to see us lean, mean and strong again?  There might actually be certain globalists in power who are on our side against the evil globalists who want to see us lose.  It's their game and maybe that's how they play it.  No hard feelings between them in the end no matter who wins or loses.  They reset the global playing board and start over again for the next 100 to 200 years. 

Maybe they want to make sure this all happens.  Hegelian Dialectic style.  They want a certain outcome for America or the rest of the world; so they scheme to destroy it and bring us to our knees, take away what's left of our Constitutional rights, etc.

So they seem to be purposely creating the economic collapse to create the chaos and the implosion of society, to mandate martial law, to then act as our saviors and protectors while rounding up all us non-Marxist patriot "folks" who stand in their way, and then to recreate the society and enact their form of socialist/fascist, tyrannical state controlled government worse than anything from 1984.

Or you can just go on thinking they're these bumbling fools like the 3 Stooges and "don't know what they're doing" and are "incompetent" and "idiotic", etc. etc.  But I wish that none of you would think that anymore in case you still do.

They've been planning this for well over a 100 years.  Hell, they've been planning this since the Constitution and Bill of Rights was created!  Luckily, the genius of the Framers and their words were such a solid obstacle to those who would try to conquer the republic that it has taken well over 200 years to bring us to this lowly point.

I forget where I read/heard this -- but the United States would start a war in Europe between NATO and Russia before it loses Western Europe to solidify their support. 

I always kinda wondered if this was the reason for the Ukraine cluster fuck, and the reason why Putin won't intervene anymore.

7 kingdoms - 7 continents; the geography of the kingdoms is basically the geography of the Earth.  And each kingdom's culture depicts similar cultures that in habit the Earth's regions and continents.

Rulers in power and those who want power all conspiring to take power and land from each other.  Killing each other and using armies to fight their battles, etc.

Game of Thrones is an allegory for the game the globalists are playing with our world, don't you think?

Let's not forget this massive illegal immigration invasion being perpetrated against us to flood our country with millions of sick, poor, uneducated people who will flood the social welfare system and speed up the economic implosion.  Not to mention instantly creating and racial crisis to compete against Americans.  Not to mention so many millions who will be coerced by the scum, sociopaths in D.C. to vote for them while voting away our Constitutional rights.

Let's not forget that while they may try to blame Europe and Asia for our own curreny crisis, that it's actually the NON-Federal Reserve who has printed Trillions of worthless dollars and along with the government and banksters helped allow Quadrillions in other debt and derivatives that can never been covered...thus imploding the currnet world economic and governing structures.

Let's not forget the crisis of law going on where lifetime "Supreme" court judges rule against our Constitution and allow all this shit to go on, such as the un-Constitutional "obamacare" law.

Let's not forget the MIC and the militarization of our local city and state police and sheriff's offices with weapons of war and military vehicles that can only be used against the internal populace of America, especially when the system creates enough chaose and instability due to the things I mentioned above which will them give them the "authority" to use all that shit against us and suspend our Constitutional rights and rule of law. 

We have a judicial crisis, and Constiutional crisis, a governmental crisis, and humanitarian crisis, an economic crisis, and quite frankly to top it all off they have and are deliberately creating a massive racial crisis in America.

I can go on and on, but I think it's evident what has and is being perpetrated against us. 

A coup d'état has been perpetrated against the United States and it's citizens.  It happened long ago in small steps over a period of decades.  And it's finally starting to manifest itself overtly as these traitors are actually kind of starting to lose control.  They're still in control at all the highest levels, but this is getting very big and probably enough out of their control where yes, I will say that some of them are stupid and they do make mistakes along the way.  The globalists and certainly their political puppets certainly aren't perfect in their plans and they certainly don't win all the battles that are going on in this grand global game.  But up until the last several years they have been seriously kicking our fucking asses!

I think we've seen a big change in this war game since the end of Bush and the beginning of the obama regime.  For one, I believe thanks to the internet we've been able to reach many more millions of people than we ever could have previously.  The "info war" momentum has definitely swung to our side especially over the past 5 years or so and that has been astoundingly critical for us.

I believe this development has set the globalists back as far as a decade in their plans.  But they know how to regroup because they're the masters at this game and we have a lot of catching up to do.  Plus we just don't have the power they do.  We mainly have the sheer size of population on our side and a fair amount of guts and guns as well!

There was a guy named Norman Thomas who ran for president 6 freakin' times in a row for the Socialist Party of America up until 1948.  He finally quit running after all those years and this is what he said about it:

We've got a very big fight coming in this country.  It very well could be the next civil war.  I hope people are ready for it, because it's very apparent that the powers that be are gearing up for it one way or another.  They may have to nuke us before it's all over because I highly doubt that once most American wake up that we're going to go down without a helluva fucking fight.

I used to think Alex Jones was nuts a few years ago.  However, after reading ZH and the DT I began to realize how cooked our financial system really is -- and then I began to remember advice given to me by various people over the years.  

Then, in December of last year I was studingy for the bar exam and going to a breakup with a girl friend.  One night -- I couldn't sleep and found a few week old YouTube upload of the Alex Jones show.  I watched it to help me fall asleep -- and the next night, I watched that days episode, and the episode the next night, and the night thereafter.  

Come to find out the guy is actually a genius, and is a prophet.  He connected the financial crisis with the militirization of the police, the erosion of our civil liberties, ammo purchases, 9-11, etc., etc., and now I listen to his show daily.  Now, in heinsight, I can see how the advice I had been given by various people over the years is the same stuff that Alex Jones is talking about now.

I say this because your post reminds me of his show day before yesterday.

Actually Merkel has been in China the last few days and has signed different trade agreements with them, including VW factories there.  Reading it carefully the Euro is mentioned not the dollar.  China just signed trade agreements in yuan with France and Luxembourg too.  All of it from the horses mouths.

Sorry but I don't see how the fine is any worse than the money grabs made by the EU and France in so-called anti-trust suits.  For example the contrived charges against Microsoft's so-called monopoly, or France's suit against Google Maps claiming they shouldn't offer a "free" service (which is paid for with ads).  The modern French basically just mimick and whine when it comes to innovation.

Besides, European banks were made whole through money funneled through AIG care of US taxpayers.  The US is basically just getting back some money they already gave these banks.  Protesting this is just ludicrous.

Bad news is sometimes good news.  I do not want to see war between US and Russia over Ukraine and if 'our' NATO allies won't support it, we (hopefully) won't get war.  So on with the alienation between US and our (hopefully former) allies.

This is great - the German banks have mostly recovered from slipping on the "Fettnäpfchen" that was the toxic CDOs and MBSs from the USBanksters (formerly highly rated by the formerly highly rated rating agencies), and now:

the US wants to shock their (former) ally's financial heartbeat because of a failure to salute the US regs on international finance - i.e. dealing with folks formerly known as naughty. Not to mention that at the same time the US is supporting only the nice but not naughty yahoos in MENA, causing endless consternation and handwringing in .DE, and not to mention all the Spy vs Merkel drama.

Hey bring it on. It is all endlessly entertaining. Where is Marc Rich when you need him. Oh yeah, he died...

Sometimes some of us are really thick. Between all the daily squabbles and "gotta do now" hurry-ups, we fail to think of the absurdity of some of the events going on. Who the heck is the US that they can assess such penalties against foreign banks doing business as they please, a trait very common to the US and its banks I would note? Further, what kind of chains (I know, but still) does the US have on these people to hold them to a decree of the US? It is like the silliness of the FATCA penalties... if everyone were, no not everyone but most were to say "bugger off" and take your penalties with you, there would be nothing done for the bully is toothless. The US cannot afford to have everyone turn their backs on them so, they would back down as all bullies do when confronts by forces larger than they.

Is all the leadership of Europe in the midst of a personal sex change so that they'd all back down to this bully?

it astounds me how many people, ( understandably ) blame, and are outraged at o'bama actions, ( or non actions ), and of his adminisration, and have had over 6 yrs to come to the realization he was picked, and place as americas leader, for being anti-american.

the fed., and the few that sit around the bildenburg table, ( the same ones responsible for the eu ), have placed o'bama in power to set in motion the americas,( s., n.america, and canada.

the fed. will sooner than later have the majority control of the money in the world, the people around the table, it's their job to make the 3 or so billion extra people they proclaim the world has in it.

as were seing money can buy the disappearing of many, many of those extra billions of humans, when applied at the right time, in the right place.

This looks like more evidence of my theory that there are multiple factions vying for primacy.  It would appear the western (US) banksters are using the US gov't to inflict pain on rival crime families (Euro Banksters).  The opposite perspective could be that those who have effectively taken over the US gov't by the quiet coup of electronic elections and FSA bribery are using the banksters to accomplish the diminishment and isolation of the USA.

Germany has been setting up banking arrangements with Russia and China to trade in Rubles and Yuan (who needs the US dollar anymore?).  German businesses have been warning Merkel not to sanction Russia, since Russia is one of their biggest customers and German businesses have huge investments and high hopes for more in Russia.  Germany recently tapered its demand for return of its gold, effectively writing it off as unrecoverable.  Merkel is reported to have told the EU to give lip service to US demands to act hostile to Russia, but to avoid any real action.  

  When President Xi of China made his royal tour of Europe recently, the European government leaders were falling all over themselves to ingratiate themselves with China and sign up trade and banking agreements.    

  At the same time, the collapsing demand in austerity-plagued Europe and the failing US is cutting into German exports.  Germany is already shifting its focus to Eurasia, the US is trying to grab as much as it can before Germany is gone.
