Meanwhile, In Argentina: Riot Police Unleash Tear Gas & Water Cannons In Buenos Aires - Live Feed

Tyler Durden's picture

With the nation teetering on the brink of default amid major inflation pressures at home and growing poverty (and Kirchner facing pressure into next year's election), today's loss in the FIFA World Cup final appears to have lit the blue touch paper. As RT reports, police used tear gas and water cannons to disperse angry fans in Buenos Aires. Following the mass gathering around the Obelisk during the game, fans clashed with riot police as the loss sunk in. There are no reports of civilian injuries but 8 police were hurt. Rio has also seen violence between Argentina fans and others (and Brazil's Rousseff has issued a calming statement).

As AP reports,

Riot police are firing tear gas and using water cannons to restrain a group of youth who are hurling rocks and vandalizing stores at a rally in Buenos Aires to celebrate Argentina's gutsy performance in a 1-0 loss to Germany in the World Cup finals.

Parents with young children could be seen running down streets after police, who at first remained on the sidelines, tried to take back the area near the city's iconic Obelisk after 9 p.m. local time.

Local media reported 8 police officers were injured in violence late Sunday.

The disturbances came after thousands of Argentines gathered peacefully at the Obelisk with families and neighbors to applaud Argentina's best World Cup performance in 24 years.

The Obelisk where fans watched the game...

Has become a riot zone...

And even in Rio there were problems after the match...

Perhaps fearing the same in Brazil, President Rousseff issued a 'calming' statement:

A letter written by Brazil's President Dilma Roussef was released on Sunday, suggesting the national soccer team to "take advantage of the lessons learned in the tournament to improve more our football, both inside and outside the stadiums."

The letter refers to the team's disappointing performance in the match against Germany, where Brazil was defeated with a score of 7-1, as well as in the 3-0 defeat against the Netherlands in the third-place match. Afterwards, the Brazilian team was harshly criticized by experts and fans.

Rousseff's message began saying that both the national team and the country's football "are greater than any other fleeting result."

"What will stay stronger in the heart of our people are the moments of joy that you gave us in this World Cup and that will  certainly guarantee us future championships," the letter said.

"Everyone of us, without exception, will know how to take advantage of the lessons learned to improve even more our football, both inside and outside the stadiums," she added.

Rousseff affirmed that "we, the Brazilians, did not raise the trophy, but we made the Cup of the cups. Without you, this would not have been possible."

"Our love and our gratitude for you," said the letter.

Ukrainians shell village inside Russia. 1 dead.  Russia says this act will be answered in kind.

"Naturally, this action will not be left without a corresponding reaction," the deputy foreign minister, Grigory Karasin, said in a radio interview on Sunday.

In the meantime Poroshenko goes all Israeli saying:

"For every soldier's life, the militants will pay with dozens and hundreds of their own," said Ukraine's president, Petro Poroshenko, after Friday's attack.

It's beginning to look more and more like Ukraine's putsch regime is under instructions to solicit a war with Ivan.

And of course you can count on the MSM to treat Russia/Putin as they do the Palestinians - as the aggressor even when they are not.

Please separate the two actions.  It is "alledged" that a Ukrainian mortar round struck a residential yard over the border in Russia killing 1 person.  This could have been done by the Ukrianians or by the pro-Russians trying to draw in Russia to finally attack in Ukriane to "save" ethnic Russians.

Petro Poroshenko made the statement about payback with "dozens and hundreds of their own" after a Grad rocket attack killed dozens of Ukrianian soldiers in an early morning attack.  We just knw the pro-Russians got all this stuff on E-Bay

just like the "Little Green Men" who attacked Crimea in March got all their "latest Russian equipment"  on the same E Bay site.

The Argies should tell that leftist bitch Christine Kirschner the same thing the Brazilians told half-Bulgarian marxist President Dilma Rouessef after Brazil lost and at the opening of the World Cup.   They chanted it for a LONG time both times.

http://www.mediaite.com/online/brazilian-president-world-cup-defeat-wors...

But not all Brazilians are happy being host to the World Cup; lots of money (billions) was poured into it. And with the devastating loss yesterday, many angry Brazil fans started this chant, directed at President Rousseff: “Ei, Dilma, vai tomar no cu.” That roughly translates to “Hey, Dilma, go fuck yourself in the ass!”

Freddie, a friend of mine sells capital equipment (made by a large US company) used in refineries and chemical plants.  One of his largest customers is Petrobras, which traditionally has had many good engineers working for them, very professional.

Dilma has been dicking around with Petrobras (mandating gasoline prices, employment, etc.).  This has started to affect energy supplies...

This of course does not include all the other stupid Socialist crap she does (pals with Maduro in Venezuela, etc.).  Kirchner in Argentina does the same kind of stupid shit, used to pal around with Hugo Chavez...  Now, all over Miami you see "SOS Venezuela" on emigrés' cars...

No, the lack of a report does not mean no injuries.  It only means the information was not reported.  For a similar instance, the Chinese did not report deaths in Tianamen square: therefore there were none?

So the media in Argentina is 100% controlled by the government like in China?  That may be true, but I didn't have that impression.

Do you know the facts?

Regardless of the facts, my point stands.  I'd prefer to live somewhere the police are not aggressive, not militarized, and as incompetent as possible.  Not because I'm a criminal, but because I don't want to be prey.

I watched the match at the house of a local pastor, with 30 Argentines, in the central of Cordoba in Argentina.  I walked home from Duarte Quiros to Colon and south into Alberdi at 10:00PM.  There were no crowds, no mobs, no riots.  If you know anything about Argentina, you know that I was literally in the very center of the country.. all day... This is such complete bullshit.  You completely biased reporting on Argentina calls into question your reporting on a host of other matters.  Tyler... I suspect that you have investments here that are not paying what you think they should pay.  If you don´t like it, then Sell and quit your bullshit.   You curse others for selling their book... but you are doing the same thing.  You may be too good for Wall Street now that you have found your Austrian School corruption, but you are still acting just a Wall Street prick

The attitude of the country is pensive and reflective.  For the first time in long time, they have something to be proud of.  Most people here are proud of the team and understand that the world saw, in the World Cup, a country that is competitive and capable of organizing itself in a competitive endeavor with the best countries in the world (which would be Germany).  There were celebrations here, but they were orderly and contained.  I know... I was actually here... instead of being pissed off that my overseas investments were not generating the return that I had hoped for.

Just ridiculous Tyler.  I watched the match on Duarte Quiros in Cordoba at the house of a local pastor with 30 people.  I then walked home across Avenida Colon to Alberdi at about 10:00 PM.  If you have any idea of Argentina at all, you know that I was directly in the center of Argentina, in the 2nd largest city.  There were no riots... no breakdown of order.  In fact the whole city was much better behaved than any North American city in the same type of situation (and yes, I have been in Pittsburgh when the Steelers lost the Super Bowl, in Chicago when the Bulls won the NBA championship- where automatic weapon-fire filled the night for hours in South Chicago, in New York when the Yankees lost the World Series, in Columbus -twice actually- when Ohio State lost the NCAA championship game).

I talked to more than 50 Argentines tonight about the game.  They all more-or-less share the same attitude.  They are proud of their team.  They feel that the match was evenly played and that Germany won by captilizing on an opportunity where Argentina failed to capitalize on several opportunities in the first half.  They feel that they have shown, both to themselves and the world, that they are capable of organizing (it is a very important concept to them here, they feel they have lacked the capacity to "organize" themselves... a sort of perspective they have adopted from German immigrants) a competitive team for the most competative international event.  It is the first thing in many, many years that Argentines have to be proud of, and they are genuinely proud of their team, their nation, and its efforts in this international competition.

I am now certain that you have assets here... not just your friends, not just the angry American woman in Buenos Aires.  You criticize Goldman Sachs for talking its book... how are you different?  Grow up.

The article reports factual events - picture evidence included(!) - which anyone can interpret as they wish. Was it a nationwide outbreak of civil unrest?? I don't think so but the article doesn't allege it was. They referred to Beunos Aires, not Cordoba. Did you miss that??

All of these sports benefit billionaire football club owners and leagues like FIFA or the Olympics or other major sprts like the NFL.  Taxpayers get screwed over and the masses are manipulated like bread and circuses.

The poor Brazilians and Argies have pride in their teams because many have a shitty existance at least in poorer Brazil.    These games are really pretty meaningless but they can be used to control the sheep.

The Germans have a hell of a team with a lot of talented young guys.  Argentina played exceptionally well and almost won.  Messei was swarmed on by the Germans.  The Germans played great offense but also a smothering defense.   The German goalie let in 4 goals (?) in the entire World Cup? Schweinsteiger was the playrer of the match.

There used to be a saying, "Rich as an Argentinian."

Then they caught the socialism bug.  Apparently it is a fatal degenerative disease.

Once people get addicted to loot (because free things arent free, they must be looted), there's no turning back before extinction.

This is what, their 40th bankrupcy since adopting socialism in the early 20th Century?

Really now, I thought they caught the capitalism bug (they sure are acting a lot like the USA in their economic measures), only difference is they dont have a reserve currency.

Argentina caught the socialist bug 70 year ago with Peron.  Sadly, it seems the alternative is crony fascist capitalism where scum mega billionaires push for more border invasion.
