Putin Responds: "US Sanctions Will Boomerang And Cause Very Serious Damage"
It took just a little over an hour for Vladimir Putin to respond to the latest, most provocative and toughest round of US sanctions yet. The response, appropriately enough, came just after the BRICS summit in Brazil, where the world's developing countries yesterday announced the formation of both a BRIC bank and a $100 billion currency reserve to provide a liquidity alternative to the insolvent developed world's central banks. Here Vladimir Putin was asked to comment on the new package of sanctions against Russia announced just minutes earlier by Obama.
Putin's response: "We aren’t the ones introducing sanctions, you should ask them."
"Sanctions have a boomerang effect and without any doubt they will push U.S.-Russian relations into a dead end, and cause very serious damage, and it undermines the long term security interests of the US State and its people." he said to reporters while elaborating that said he needed to see the details of the sanctions to understand their full scope Reuters added.
And as was largely expected, Putin's next jab was right where it hurt: energy.
"This means that U.S. companies willing to work in Russia will lose their competitiveness next to other global energy companies."
Putin said the sanctions will hurt Exxon Mobil Corp which has been given the opportunity to operate in Russia. "So, do they not want it to work there? They are causing damage to their major energy companies," he said.
While we don't know for sure, we are confident that following the press conference Putin sat down with the rest of the BRICS, which command a population of just over 3 billion not to mention the world's fastest growing economies, and realized that for all the posturing, it is really a game of reserve fiat vs energy, with the US controlling the former, while the BRICS, and especially Russia, dominating the latter. And as long as the BRICS don't have their own monetary system, they will be reliant on the every swift (pun intended) whim of Janet "price-to-equity ratio" Yellen and her central planning kind.
We are just as confident that he and his peers are currently contemplating how to no longer be bound by the former ever again.
In the meantime, and to further distance itself from western reliance, Moscow ordered state officials to only use Russian-made cars. From Reuters:

Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said he had signed an order limiting purchase of imported cars for state and municipal officials - a move in line with Vladimir Putin's bid to increase self-reliance from engineering to defence, but carrying more symbolic than commercial importance.
Many Western cars are now assembled in Russia, but not the Mercedes limousine, the car of choice for many government officials and often used by President Putin.
In Soviet times, homemade limousines such as the ZiL and for lesser officials, the Volga were de rigeur. These have now largely vanished from the streets, to the chagrin of some who see profligacy and a lack of patriotism in the preference.
For now it is a political decisions:
"This will not influence the market at all, it is a political decision," said Vladimir Bespalov, an analyst with Moscow-based VTB Capital, putting the share of state-funded car purchases at less that 3 percent of the market.
But how long until this too escalates to other industries and other consumers, first in Russia but in the other BRIC nations, all of whom one can safely say appear to have finally had it with western/IMF-led global hegemony.

Putin was likely the leader Russia needed after Yeltsin, and unlike the US under The One, Russia is better now than previously. Great question...short term would say strength, but long term, no healthy economy can thrive on worthless fiat.

We need stability and fairness in the currency. A Dollar earned today needs to be able to purchase tommorow as what it purchases today.
If it purchases less tommorow then the saver loses.
If it purchases more tommorow then those whom spend it today lose.
A Inflationary scenario encourages spending and discourages saving. (The Government wants this as it generates Tax Revenue.)
A Deflationary Scenario encourages saving and discouarges spending. (Business wants this as it allows for Capital Growth and increases the money available for loans.)
When the Inflation and Deflationary forces are balanced then both business and Governments can prosper. Business can have access to liquidity to invest and Governments can enjoy a constant revenue stream. Within a cycle with boundaries this is the optimal solution.
However the Boundaries have all been violated and it is all headed to systemic collapse as a result. Both Government and Business are doomed as a result of blowing out the Boundary Conditions necessary for sustainability and...stability.
Stability is therefore the optimal choice.
Now this would be ideal. The problem is that it does not work in the Real World.
A Gold Standard may achieve it IF it was in congruence with value of money being set by the free market. But no Government on Earth will be willing to yield their power over that of the Printing Press.
Thus THERE ARE NO POLITICAL SOLUTIONS.

Most people watch western media, some even watch RT. But neither has been following the great Kiev military offensive launched two weeks ago aimed to cut off the rebels and close the borders with Russia, while taking the major cities. Well, it seems by most reports, and this can never be 100% sure, that Kievs forces have hit a huge snag. It may be, and I say MAY, that Kiev has just had it's ass handed to it in a major military defeat on three fronts. Perhaps Kiev will rebound and it's forces pull themselves together. But even Kiev TV ran a phone interview from a surrounded trooper in the southern Kiev force which is being pounded to pieces by the rebels. What I mean by this is that Obama is beside himself with rage because his Kiev army has failed. Obama expected to announce a victory this week, instead he may have to announce his Kiev forces have suffered a major battle field disaster. We will know for sure in the next couple days as Kiev forces fight to get out of the traps.
I am fairly certain that the huge amount of new weapons the rebels unleashed on the coup leaders army must have come from Russian sources via the border.

Crimea was a great win, for now. And the people there are the only pro Russia foreign people not to suffer heavy losses. Take Iraq 1 and 2, Libia, Syria and now EUkran. The people are given just enough in Syria and EUkran to fight to a standstill. Almost as if Russia is using them to drain the opposition financially by fighting (and dieing). There have been comments in interviews where people in EUkran expressed confusion and dismay at the way Putin allows them to be killed when he can easily stop it. (No fly zone for example.)
Iran has been forgotten in the media. If Iran is attacked all Russia will do is give them enough help to avoid being quickly overrun but their country will devolve into chaos and destruction just as the others have.
Being Russia's or Putin's friend has limited benefits it seems. Thus far.
Putin has not been proactive and his best moves may take years to develop into something that have effects. In short Putin has been asleep and finds Russia in a poor position to act. No effective counter to SWIFT, no pipeline to China or backdoor route to Europe.
Many of the moves of Obamas handlers seem stupid but they have put the ME in chaos and Putin has been ineffective. If Putin had been proactive Lybia would and others would be selling oil without using the dollar. At every turn Putin has missed the opportunity to be the one directing the events.
Interesting perspective. I think maybe Russia when Putin found it was a much bigger mess than most of us in the US ever knew. We have a huge industry here whose existence depends on American's fear of Russian domination.
Most of the available assertive moves Putin could make right now would draw Russia into a carefully prepared trap, which Russia may not be able to overcome. Therefore the best thing Putin can do is to wait, growing Russia's strength, waiting for Washington's allies to lose their nerve, and for the complications to overtake American gambits.
The American strategy seems to come straight from Zbigniew Brzezinski's books, along with Kissinger and Wolfowitz. A good atlas showing resource deposits illustrates it pretty well. The US has used many different methods to pulverize the cohesiveness of society in nations on top of strategic resources, on the paths those resources have to travel to get to market, and around the perimeter of Russia and China, but also the EU. Aghanistan has a lot of resources, but also sits on the path of the long-planned pipeline from Turkmenistan to Pakistani ports. Iraq we all know about. Libya has been a major energy supplier to Europe. Pipelines are planned from Nigeria north to the Mediterranean, and look where "Islamic Terrorism" has suddenly taken hold, with US pressure to intervene. Syria has oil, and sits where a pipeline from Qatar would go on its way to Europe. All around Iran the US has created fiery chaos, relegating a planned pipeline to China moot.
No doubt Putin is waiting for it to get cold in Ukraine, and for the Ukie Nazis to lose any semblance of popular support. No doubt he's waiting for something to shake loose in Syria before getting more involved, if he has the spare resources to do so. For all the bluster, nobody wants to attack Iran and Putin (and Iran) knows it. Meanwhile Putin builds alliances, posits alternatives to US dollar-based hegemony, and lets the US alienate its allies and force nations to turn to Russian-led coalitions.
I don't think Obama's handlers are stupid so much as they are utterly amoral, and they realize the US economy is teetering on the brink. Decades of over-spending and over-extension have left the economy in tatters and the military in a shaky state. The financialization of the US economy is a sign of collapse, not strength. The US elites know they have to go for broke, and soon, or they'll lose the moment and the power to dominate globally. If Putin can outwait them, perhaps they will over-commit and destroy themselves without his having to risk raising a finger. That's why the US had to foment the unfolding disaster in Ukraine. If that doesn't go the US' way, and soon, Putin wins by the age-old Russian trick of waiting for winter.
I have no illusions about Putin. He came up through the KGB, and when the Soviet Union collapsed, he became the most ruthless muscleman for the Oligarchs in a notably ruthless country. Anyone romanticizing or idealizing Putin is being either very foolish or willfully blind to who is and how he has gotten to where he is. The enemy of my enemy is not necessarily my friend. I also agree that beyond winters time considerations, that time is a consideration due to the US economy possibly having a near term financial crisis of some significant level. Which takes us back to the US/allies forcing the issue, and I thnk if Putin gets more distracted by Ukraine that Iran becomes into play. The difference I see with Iran is that the invading CIA proxy army will need greater air support. But other than believing Iran is going to come into play I have very little vision of how that would actually unfold.

I'm just a poster, Im not spreading pro-Russian articles on a daily basis. I love how everyone here is so quick to jump into a conspiracy until it involves the site they call home everyday.
