Israeli Tanks Are Rolling Into Gaza

Tyler Durden's picture

Residents in the northern Gaza Strip said they could hear the sound of tanks entering from Beit Lahiya as we noted earlier and now the Army has confirmed:

As NY Times reports, the military released a statement saying the goal of the operation was to "establish a reality in which Israeli residents can live in safety and security without continuous indiscriminate terror." Judging by the images and clips below, they are deadly serious.

Raw feed of the invasion from AP:

Hamas response was ominous:

Fawzi Barhoum, a spokesman for Hamas, the Islamic militant group that governs the Gaza Strip, issued a statement calling the invasion “a dangerous step,” and said, referring to Israel, “The occupation will pay its price expensively, and Hamas is ready for confrontation.”

Last window of opportunity for Iran to launch a massive missile attack against Israel’s military and strategic infrastructure, simply because they will be sent back to the Stone Age by the Zionist-Arab coalition in the coming months if the Islamic Republic doesn’t take preemptive measures.

Unlike the zionists and the U.S. (or do i repeat myself?), Iranian leadership does not think that way...

Abi Normal's picture

John, Johnny, John boy, you are fool on a fools errand.  If you think Iran does not have designs on the 12th caliphate, and the 13th Imam (just like ISIS but in a bit different way), you are as deluded as the rest.  You do realize Jerulsalem is the objective? Go ahead and hate the 'jooos' dudes, but you do not even have the slightest idea why.  Oh yeah, Zionists, Ashkanazi, and the like; maybe so, but it is not every Jew that feels that way, and they have a right to exist and protect themselves, in a state taken from them long ago.  You go ahead and defend the fake state of palestine, created by the Brits.

I get a good laugh at the wrong headedness of a ton of the ZH crowd, when it comes to this very topic.

Vote me down, whatever, you will see just how wrong you are someday soon.

the goal is too first secure a set of pipelines to europe through the middle east AFTER THAT  the price of oil can be dropped quickly and voraciously while the gulf of hormuz is shut down to destroy persian exports of oil via tanker.

persia no doubt will, if it is not already obtain new investment from china and russia into pipelines. it is possible russia may even relent to the chinese FINALLy building a transcaspian railroad if a pipeline is part of the deal mix.

a larely overlooked x-factor in all of this is potential violence in turkey organized by russian counter-nato espionage.

there's so much corruption and suffering in turkey---that russia may take its own stab at playing the 'turkish counter-spring' game that it watched and copied form the american playbook.

"Last window of opportunity for Iran...blah"

Iran will never be "sent back to the stone age." Rather, they, with their allies, will win and usher in a new world power. Persia will rise again as the eighth king:

10and they are seven kings; five have fallen, one is, the other has not yet come; and when he comes, he must remain a little while. 11"The beast which was and is not, is himself also an eighth and is one of the seven, and he goes to destruction. 12"The ten horns which you saw are ten kings who have not yet received a kingdom, but they receive authority as kings with the beast for one hour.…” – Revelation 17:10-12

Boy you're dumb...

Iranian military spending: $6.297 billion/year (2012)

US military spending: $682 billion/year (2012)

The US spends more than 100X what Iran spends on "defense." And you think they're going to conquer the world?

Oh, right, their allies...

Chinese military spending: $166 billion/year (2012)

Russian military spending: $90 billion/year (2012)

So, Iran and its allies spend a combined $263 billion/year (rounding up).

The US spends nearly 3X as much - throw in the rest of NATO for a more realistic picture.

HelluvaEngineer's picture

This reminds me of an anecdote.  America spent millions developing the "space pen" so that they could write in zero gravity.  Russians took a pencil into space.  Good luck.

John Wilmot's picture

ALL governments are extremely wasteful, so it's a moot point.

Relative military spending in the proper basis for comparison.

NidStyles's picture

No it really isn't. You honestly think a bunch of baby boomer curtail riding generals and a few hundred thousand millenials are going to be enough to take on the billion people of the middle-east? LMAO! I laugh in your face. Even if the Haj's can't shoot for crap, they don't need to shoot straight to roadside the entire invading force.

John Wilmot's picture

Yea, it really is. The sinews of war really are infinite money.

The number of people in your population available for military service is entirely irrelevant if you can't afford to arm and supply them. A billion Muslims with AK-47s is worth less than one F-16 which can bomb them to smithereens with impunity. Get a grip. This Islamophbia is absurd: and I say that not because I'm opposed to discrimination, but because I'm opposed to stupidity - and any further needless wars facilitated by that stupidity.

He never does John, all he does is mumble and end with I'm Chumpsterwombat or something like that, its just low IQ and the innate desire to say his name over and over and over.  It adds to his feelings of grandeur.

Tyler has kept him around these past 4 years since he feels sorry for him and everyone needs a towel boy and a used piece of ass that is leathered and tough, in a sweaty fight club lol.

Then he comes in with another account to gang up on you due to his feelings of insecurity and inadequacy due to his erectile dysfunction...blames it on the cops who roughened him up a few years ago, he is still trying to get a case in federal court in San Francisco.  Says he was racially profiled as a white gay man.

Quite the personal vitriol there, COSMOS.

As someone who has read both your posts and Chumblez, I wouldn't be so harsh on him.

Something about pot and kettle.

; )

Ps- not that I disagree with much of either of your posts, but, COSMOS, your holding a grudge doesn't look good on you or anyone else for that matter.

COSMOS's picture

No Grudge Seeker, Chump started it, he picks fights and the runs behind the ropes to Tyler for protection.

It is the fight club after all.  I am just giving him a reminder that if he dishes then he must also take.  You can't punch and not expect a counterpunch.  Especially a 'radio personality' like Chump should know that radio is another form of media and media is a dirty business ;)

chumbawamba's picture

lol, when did I run under Tyler's apron, praytell?

The more pertinent question is, when did you ever throw down?  You're still butthurt because you just can't respond to my arguments.  Not because there isn't one, necessarily, but you just aren't the woman to do it.

I am Chumbawamba.

edotabin's picture

Oh come on..... To say that the US is invincible because we spend a ton of money on defense is not a very bright thing to say.  It leaves out countless factors. That black hole of a plane (F35) is just one example. What about the 2.1 trillion the pentagon couldn't find? They could be spending half the budget on hookers for all we know.

Besides, it is quite obvious that the political class and military are mid-level management in this world.  They may be extremely powerful entities but they are still mid-level management.

Vietnam = invincible?

Iraq = Invincible?

Afghanistan = Invincible?

When you go to war, you go for a damn good reason and bomb the living shit out of them. You kill, destroy, decimate and obliterate. You don't go pussy-footing around with lawyers and embeded idiots to make it look like a fucking reality show. Perhaps however, we are not fighting real wars anymore. Perhaps we are using the military as a tool to prod certain outcomes in a certain direction which the higher level management desires.

Meanwhile everyone is kept on the hamster wheel to pay taxes while the debt continues to go sky high.

Seek_Truth's picture

Exactly, edotabin!

History is littered with smaller, "inferior" armies who destroyed World Powers, only to fall centuries later because they got fat and complacent.

Egypt was conquered by Assyria, Assyria by Babylon, Babylon by Persia, Persia by Greece, Greece by Rome, and soon the US Empire will meet its fate.

edotabin's picture

Edotabin? Cool comment but this guy's got a really fucked up ZH username.  I can't spell that. Hmmm let me copy and paste it.   LOL

And yes, agreed on history 100%

No, Iran will win because it is prophesied.

You don't have to be convinced now- you will see it happen soon enough, mocker.

effendi's picture

John, have you never heard of getting the maximum bang for your buck?

The US will spend 10-20 billion dollars building an aircraft carrier group and another 10-20 billion on aircraft and parts.

China or Russia can spend a few hundred million on subs and hyper-torpedos and that aircraft carrier becomes an artificial reef in the first day.

Paying contractors a million dollars per missile (who will then pay their subcontractors $80,000, as occurred in the missises on Bagdad in '91) is a waste of money. Especially when many of the critical components (like chips) are supplied by China.

Does it really cost $600,000 a pop to make a fancy jeep? (and then let ISIS have it)

The US has not had a full toe to toe war since 1945 with a major adversary. China can afford to lose a few hundred million dead, can the US stomache even 50 million dead?

John Wilmot's picture

The MIC is the same in every country - every government vastly overpays for all the gear it buys.

As for what gear the US chooses to buy: Yes, Russia and China are arming for a real war, while the US continues to spend money on carriers, Littoral Combat Ships, and counter-insurgency nonsense which is useless in a real war. Why? Because the US military is already vastly superior to the Russian or Chinese militaries. Russia and China are trying to catch up in order to defend themselves from the overwhelming American military power, while the US has such a lead over all potential rivals that it can afford to spend resources building crap that's only useful for fighting goat herders in central Asia. But this is a CHOICE. If and when a real threat emerges, the US and allies have more than enough resources to handle it.

General Tzu speaks to you:

It is said that if you know your enemies and know yourself, you will not be imperiled in a hundred battles; if you do not know your enemies but do know yourself, you will win one and lose one; if you do not know your enemies nor yourself, you will be imperiled in every single battle. - The Art of War

edotabin's picture

You know what? You're right!  It was the MX and Pershing II missiles that brought down the Soviet Union! Yeah! Rah-rah-rah !

chumbawamba's picture

50,000,000 is almost 1/6th the US population.  I doubt we could conscript half of that, even with a Chinese threat.  The US couldn't handle 10,000 deaths in any confined period of time.  The only reason 7,000 deaths between Iraq and Afghanistan have gone unnoticed by Americans is because they were stretched out over a decade.

I have no idea what the fate of this nation is, but at this point I can't see it being all that good, certainly not in the short term.  People need to try harder.

I am Chumbawamba.

John Wilmot's picture

You're talking about conscripting millions of Americans for a war with China?, consult a map. That large blue patch is called the Pacific Ocean.

Unless the People's Liberation Army is composed of mermaids, they're entirely irrelevant.

Seek_Truth's picture

Snarky John,

You need to educate yourself.

The Western Alliance will continue to push for war with the East, in order to slow down/prevent (they think) the demise of the world's reserve currency, and to exploit ME petrol reserves and other natural resources worldwide.

Hower, due to:

1- modern anti-ship weapons (ie, Shkval:

2- anti- aircraft systems (s-400/s-500:

The modern tactics of establishing naval and air superiority will be null and void in WW 3, requiring a fall back to the ancient tactic of boots on the ground.

With Iran, Russia, Syria, China, and possibly India allied against NATO, what do you think the odds are in that kind of war?

"And the four angels, who had been prepared for the hour and day and month and year, were released, so that they would kill a third of mankind. 16The number of the armies of the horsemen was two hundred million; I heard the number of them." - Revelation 9:15-16

I know who will win and who will lose.

chumbawamba's picture

You don't know jack fucking shit you god damn amateur.  They're already here, buying up the foreclosures forced onto the American people so the Chinese could have an asset to park their dollars.  I'm on the front line every day you piece of shit.

As a former a10 pilot, I ask you - how's that F35 working out for you, smart guy?

John Wilmot's picture

Terribly, it's a complete waste of money.

They ought to have kept the F-22.

We don't need a fighter-bomber for killing peasants on the other side of the world, we need an air superiority fighter for protecting our own airspace.

What's your point?

edotabin's picture

And AGAIN you miss the point entirely. You're on a roll.
