Residents in the northern Gaza Strip said they could hear the sound of tanks entering from Beit Lahiya as we noted earlier and now the Army has confirmed:

As NY Times reports, the military released a statement saying the goal of the operation was to "establish a reality in which Israeli residents can live in safety and security without continuous indiscriminate terror." Judging by the images and clips below, they are deadly serious.

Anyone firing rockets in Gaza can't help but do it in the vicinity of civilians, because there are civilians EVERYWHERE. On a related note, think about the Israeli's announcement prior to the bombing campaign that the Gazans should evacuate (which was much ballyhooed in the media as a sign of their humanitarianism). Again, Gaza is a CITY, very densely populated, whose borders are hermetically sealed by the Israeli army. So, just where the fuck are they supposed to evacuate TO?
So there is no need to place missles in Mosques, hospitals, or shools. The missles could be in any building next them. So like you say there is no need with it being so dense. So why do they put them in schools, Mosques and hospitals?

I surely don't know (either whether they do that, or why if they do), but as the other poster suggested, it might be that you can't fit a rocket launcher in a studio apartment. If the day ever comes when the US no longer finances the Israeli war machine, that war machine will still be vastly superior to anything else in the neighborhood. I'm very much in favor of eliminating all foreign aid immediately, but the unfortunate reality is that when Israeli dependence onthe US ends, the Israelis will most likely become even MORE brutal and aggressive: because they won't have to worry about public opinion in the US anymore. They'll go medieval (or should I say biblical) on the neighboring Arabs.
