Gaza Right Now: In Pictures

Tyler Durden's picture

The death toll among Palestinians from the Israeli offensive in the Gaza Strip reached over 500 on Monday, Gaza health officials said, as the two sides counted their dead following the bloodiest day of fighting so far in the two-week campaign. CBS reports the officials said some 3,150 Palestinians had been wounded. The IDF just announced 7 Israeli soldiers were killed today, raising the Israeli death toll to 25 (including 2 civilians). A glance at the stunning images below beggars belief that world equity markets (and Israel's) are shrugging at this escalating violence. We assume they 'believe' in the power of John Kerry.

And The IDF defends its actions...

And then there's this... an Israeli sniper killing a wounded gaza civilian...

It appears John Kerry's work is not yet complete...

These two sides will never reach a peace settlement because of their saying, why negotiate when you are weak cause you give up too much, and why negotiate when you are strong because you can have it all.

What the world needs to do is set up the land boundaries and then impose crippling sanctions on both sides unless they agree to the settlement.  Cut off all food, fuel, trade, flights, etc.

Only way to settle the issue.

During challenging times we are often admonished to consider, what would Jesus do?

The question is not really to consider what Jesus would have done, but it is to make you consider what should be done, and then to act on it, as Jesus would have: confidently, fearlessly, and with unconditional love.

In this situation, what should be done?  First and foremost, the Israeli military should summarily halt its assault and withdraw from Gaza.  That would be the first step along a long journey to 2025.  So before we consider anything else, let us pray for the spontaneous enlightenment of Israeli leaders to withdraw their soldiers before a great calamity befalls them, for they, too, have family who love them and want them home.  Let he who will not agree to a peaceful withdrawal of Israeli forces suffer alongside them when they do not, and then repent their folly in sorrow, so that they may be enlightened.  It is peace we must seek through love and understanding and this egregious violence must end.

By the holy light of the Christ I will it so.

Please join me in expressing love for brother Yehoshua who showed us all the way.  We honor him by knowing his teachings.  I love you.

I am Chumbawamba.

Just question it all and start from scratch. Who wrote the content of the old testament and what was their motivation? The tribe is behind it all and they played Rome like a fiddle eventually. How else you think they got so rich and influential over time? It's not because they're smarter or they married among their families and pooled resources. That's part of it. No, they were instrumental in coercing Gentiles into adopting a Jew friendly philosphy which granted Jews the right to usury which nobody else was able to pull off. It's all connected, bro.

One Tin Soldier Lyrics

Listen children to a story that was written long ago
'bout a kingdom on a mountain and the valley folk below
on the mountain was a treasure buried deep beneath a
stone and the valley people swore they'd have it for their
very own

CHORUS: go ahead and hate your neighbor
go ahead and cheat a friend
do it in the name of heaven
justify it in the end
There won't be any trumpets blowing
come the judgment day
on the bloody morning after
One tin soldier rides away

So the people of the valley sent a message up the hill,
asking for the buried treasure, tons of gold for which
they'd kill.
Came an answer from the kingdom "with our brothers we
will share.
All the secrets of our mountain, all the riches buried

Now the valley cried with anger,"mount your horses,
draw your swords"
And they killed the mountain people, so they won their
just reward.
Now they stood beside the treasure, on the mountain
dark and red.
Turned the stone and looked beneath it; PEACE ON EARTH
was all it said.

Phosphorus bombs are some nasty shit.  One reason to drop those -- kill people painfully.

Yeah it's Wikipedia, but:  "In April 2004, during the First Battle of Fallujah, a reporter from the North County Times described U.S. Marine mortar teams using a mixture of white phosphorus and high explosives to shell a cluster of buildings where Iraqi insurgents had been spotted throughout the week.[11] In November 2004, during the Second Battle of Fallujah, Washington Post embedded reporters stated that some U.S. artillery guns fired white phosphorus rounds that "create a screen of fire that cannot be extinguished with water." [12] Insurgents reported being attacked with a substance that melted their skin, a reaction consistent with white phosphorus burns."

Nothing like war to make the sociopaths glow with delight at the carnage.

It's a chemical weapon of area-effect. The MSM distinguishes it's use with a special term "WMD" when brown people use it. When "allies" use chemical weapons, it's just artillery shelling.

War has three primary objectives:  1) more power for the sociopaths, 2) wealth creation for the funders of the war/builders of the arms; and/or 3) it creates a legal right to kill and torture people.  In this case, I'm thinking that most of the motivation for the Gaza carnage is #3.

There is always "The King's Teaching"...

When is it permissible to kill non-Jews? The book Torat ha-Melekh [The King’s Teaching], which was just published, was written by Rabbi Yitzhak Shapira, the dean of the Od Yosef Hai yeshiva in the community of Yitzhar near Nablus, together with another rabbi from the yeshiva, Yossi Elitzur. The book contains no fewer than 230 pages on the laws concerning the killing of non-Jews, a kind of guide for anyone who ponders the question of if and when it is permissible to take the life of a non-Jew.

Although the book is not being distributed by the leading book companies, it has already received warm recommendations from right-wing elements, including recommendations from important rabbis such as Yitzhak Ginsburg, Dov Lior and Yaakov Yosef, that were printed at the beginning of the book. The book is being distributed via the Internet and through the yeshiva, and at this stage the introductory price is NIS 30 per copy. At the memorial ceremony that was held over the weekend in Jerusalem for Rabbi Meir Kahane, who was killed nineteen years ago, copies of the book were sold.

The book includes another conclusion that explains when a non-Jew may be killed even if he is not an enemy of the Jews. “In any situation in which a non-Jew’s presence endangers Jewish lives, the non-Jew may be killed even if he is a righteous Gentile and not at all guilty for the situation that has been created,” the authors state. “When a non-Jew assists a murderer of Jews and causes the death of one, he may be killed, and in any case where a non-Jew’s presence causes danger to Jews, the non-Jew may be killed.”

One of the dispensations for killing non-Jews, according to religious law, applies in a case of din rodef [the law of the “pursuer,” according to which one who is pursuing another with murderous intent may be killed extrajudicially] even when the pursuer is a civilian. “The dispensation applies even when the pursuer is not threatening to kill directly, but only indirectly,” the book states. “Even a civilian who assists combat fighters is considered a pursuer and may be killed. Anyone who assists the army of the wicked in any way is strengthening murderers and is considered a pursuer. A civilian who encourages the war gives the king and his soldiers the strength to continue. Therefore, any citizen of the state that opposes us who encourages the combat soldiers or expresses satisfaction over their actions is considered a pursuer and may be killed. Also, anyone who weakens our own state by word or similar action is considered a pursuer.”

Rabbis Shapira and Elitzur determine that children may also be harmed because they are “hindrances.” The rabbis write as follows: “Hindrances—babies are found many times in this situation. They block the way to rescue by their presence and do so completely by force. Nevertheless, they may be killed because their presence aids murder. There is justification for killing babies if it is clear that they will grow up to harm us, and in such a situation they may be harmed deliberately, and not only during combat with adults.”

In addition, the children of the leader may be harmed in order to apply pressure to him. If attacking the children of a wicked ruler will influence him not to behave wickedly, they may be harmed. “It is better to kill the pursuers than to kill others,” the authors state.

In a chapter entitled “Deliberate harm to innocents,” the book explains that war is directly mainly against the pursuers, but those who belong to the enemy nation are also considered the enemy because they are assisting murderers.

Retaliation also has a place and purpose in this book by Rabbis Shapira and Elitzur. “In order to defeat the enemy, we must behave toward them in a spirit of retaliation and measure for measure,” they state. “Retaliation is absolutely necessary in order to render such wickedness not worthwhile. Therefore, sometimes we do cruel deeds in order to create the proper balance of terror.”

Even though the authors are careful, as stated, to use the term “non-Jews,” there are certainly those who could interpret the nationality of the “non-Jews” who are liable to endanger the Jewish people. This is strengthened by the leaflet “The Jewish Voice,” which is published on the Internet from Yitzhar, which comments on the book: “It is superfluous to note that nowhere in the book is it written that the statements are directly only to the ancient non-Jews.” The leaflet’s editors did not omit a stinging remark directed at the GSS, who will certainly take the trouble to get themselves a copy. “The editors suggest to the GSS that they award the prize for Israel’s security to the authors,” the leaflet states, “who gave the detectives the option of reading the summarized conclusions without any need for in-depth study of the entire book.”

One student of the Od Yosef Hai yeshiva in Yitzhar explained, from his point of view, where Rabbis Shapira and Elitzur got the courage to speak so freely on a subject such as the killing of non-Jews. “The rabbis aren’t afraid of prosecution because in that case, Maimonides [Rabbi Moses ben Maimon, 1135–1204] and Nahmanides [Rabbi Moses ben Nahman, 1194–1270] would have to stand trial too, and anyway, this is research on religious law,” the yeshiva student said. “In a Jewish state, nobody sits in jail for studying Torah.”

When you freely elect members of a terrorist organization as your chosen statesmen, invite them to dinner and allow them to set up shop in your living room as their base of operations, at that point, you become defacto conscripted soldiers — you forfeit your right to be called a civilian.  And, you have wittingly made yourself a target.  In Gaza the death toll of civilians is the Hamas endgame disguised as a tragedy. Without civilian deaths, Hamas has nothing to show for its efforts.  Winning the PR war is the best Hamas can hope to achieve. Their weapon of choice is the cannon fodder of their own people.

That's stupid.  You've basically ok'ed every atrocity in history through a word game.  Declare a government terrorist and mom, pop and little johnny(muhammad) are fair game.

You can't lock people in a prison, police their every move and generally make life impossible and expect them to love you.  Stockholm syndrome may  be every colonizer's wet dream, but the palestinians have too much history and heart to go that route.  They chose the red pill.

Demographically Isael is fucked.

The Palestinians just have to stay alive.

The Hamas charter directly calls for the obliteration or dissolution of Israel.  Can you name any country that states the destruction of another country as their raison d'etre? They are an avowed and acknowledged militant organization (aka terrorist).  I'm not randomly labeling them as terrorists as you suggest -- they openly and proudly declare it!  And, they care not for their own people.  Case in point: Hamas builds tunnels solely for military purposes and to transport and launch their rockets.  Using them as bomb shelters for the people of Gaza has never entered the Hamas leaders' minds.  They willingly and directly use their people above ground as shields and fodder to win the PR war and play to the liberal media.  Those Gaza civilians who openly support Hamas are complicit conscripted soldiers -- not civilians.

Tue, 07/22/2014 - 01:14 | 4986754 Quus Ant

That's stupid.  Hamas is a resistance movement that enjoys a "majority" approval-   That does not mean all palestinians agree with everything Hamas does.  It means they were given a choice between two groups and 44% chose Hamas (maybe because they knew Hamas weren't Israeli stooges).  44% voted for Hamas.  So every Palestinian is a terrorist.

Do Flechette bombs descriminate between voters?  How about white phosphorous bombs?  Snipers?  Does Israel only bulldoze Hamas voter homes?  Or steal only Hamas voter water?  Does the blockade only malnurish Hamas voter children?

The American resistance was a militant force.  A terrorist movement.  The resistance to SA apartheid was a militant force.  A terrorist movement.  So says the oppressor.  So says you.

Here's what you support:

now it's you that's playing word games.

beatscape did not say all palestinians are terrorists, that is you being dishonest and trying to put words in his mouth.

what he did say, is that those who support hamas, as well as those who house their rockets and other military equipment, are legitimate targets.

to be sure, there are palestinians who don't support hamas, and who don't house hamas or their rockets in their homes, and these people should clearly be left alone in peace.

it's a tragic situation, but what would you do if some people a few tens of miles away were shooting rockets over the border and putting the lives of your family at risk, worrying if every day was going to be your last?

At the very same time, I don't think the House of Saud are long for this world, either. uh, nope.

israel just discovered massive natural gas reserves and cut a deal with putin and europe to divy up the spoils. they have a substantial navy and everyone needs the gas. tamar and leviathan.

also israeli's use less gas per capita than americans or saudis or pretty much anyone, even in europe.

they have a small as hell country where the military has a sufficiently sane strategic policy of not allowing at least some of the pirvate profiteers to milks the public by treating them like fat pigs consumers encouraging them to burn gasoline.

in the u.s. gasoline consumption is down, prices are up, and the gov wants you consuming gasoline as much as you can .. not so much in israel. cars , gas , licensing--all crazy expensive. people car pool , use scooters bicycles and walk more. it is also warm there, but there is overall mindset lik eeurope.

high gas prices own't threaten israel. israel, like the united states,---the biggest threat is itself and stupid elitist oligarch policy. essentially a culture of greed like the united states---centered in a few wealthy families, located in a few wealthy cities.

Apparently it does...

Here is the threat:

The threatening of wild, irrational violence, in response to political pressure, has been an Israeli impulse from the very earliest days. It was first authoritatively documented, in the 1950s, by Moshe Sharett, the dovish Prime Minister, who wrote of his Defence Minister, Pinhas Lavon, that he 'constantly preached for acts of madness' or 'going crazy' if ever Israel were crossed. Without a 'just, comprehensive and lasting' peace which only America can bring to pass, Israel will remain at least as likely a candidate as Iran, and a far more enduring one, for the role of 'nuclear-crazy' state.

Iran can never be threatened in its very existence. Israel can. Indeed, such a threat could even grow out of the current intifada. That, at least, is the pessimistic opinion of Martin van Creveld, professor of military history at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. 'If it went on much longer,' he said, 'the Israeli government [would] lose control of the people. In campaigns like this, the anti-terror forces lose, because they don't win, and the rebels win by not losing. I regard a total Israeli defeat as unavoidable. That will mean the collapse of the Israeli state and society. We'll destroy ourselves.'

In this situation, he went on, more and more Israelis were coming to regard the 'transfer' of the Palestinians as the only salvation; resort to it was growing 'more probable' with each passing day. Sharon 'wants to escalate the conflict and knows that nothing else will succeed'.

But would the world permit such ethnic cleansing? 'That depends on who does it and how quickly it happens. We possess several hundred atomic warheads and rockets and can launch them at targets in all directions, perhaps even at Rome. Most European capitals are targets for our air force. Let me quote General Moshe Dayan: "Israel must be like a mad dog, too dangerous to bother." I consider it all hopeless at this point. We shall have to try to prevent things from coming to that, if at all possible. Our armed forces, however, are not the thirtieth strongest in the world, but rather the second or third. We have the capability to take the world down with us. And I can assure you that that will happen before Israel goes under.'

The concept of identifying a group of people to a clear, segregable ethnic lineage after 2000+ years, is plain fucking stupid. Be it me, the Palestinian or the Jew next door. I've heard of more than one genetic study claiming the Palestinians have the strongest (or at the very least equal) genetic link to the Israelites of Roman times, which makes this whole conflict and ongoing racism of both sides quite hilarious.

Both sides are so far down the road of hatred, violence and mistrust, that that conflict will remain the cancerous breeding ground and rallying call for global terrorism for at least my lifetime.
