Governor Perry Deploys 1,000 National Guard To Border, Denies "Militarization Of The Border"

Tyler Durden's picture

It appears Texas Governor Rick Perry has grown weary waiting on the President to dictate the next steps in the immigration debacle and taken things into his own hands. As The Monitor reports, an internal memo from another state official’s office said the governor planned to call about 1,000 Texas National Guard troops to the Rio Grande Valley - at a cost of about $12 million per month. State Sen. Juan “Chuy” Hinojosa exclaimed, "all these politicians coming down to border, they don't care about solving the problem, they just want to make a political point." However, state officials were careful to point out that "this is not a militarization of the border." Nope, not all...

As The Monitor reports,

Texas Gov. Rick Perry plans to announce he will activate the Texas National Guard at a news conference Monday in Austin, said state Sen. Juan “Chuy” Hinojosa, D-McAllen.

Hinojosa did not have details of the effort, but an internal memo from another state official’s office said the governor planned to call about 1,000 Texas National Guard troops to the Rio Grande Valley — at a cost of about $12 million per month.

..

The troops will join the Texas Department of Public Safety in its recent surge to combat human smuggling and drug trafficking amid the influx of mostly Central Americans illegally crossing the Rio Grande. Perry, Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst, and Texas House Speaker Joe Straus announced the $1.3 million per week effort last month.

State leaders approved funding for extra DPS troopers to fill in gaps in Border Patrol coverage in the Valley as the federal authorities were overwhelmed with an influx of children and families from Central America. The state officials feared Mexican drug cartels might exploit the situation to move their own drugs and human contraband while Border Patrol attention was turned elsewhere.

...

“All these politicians coming down to border, they don't care about solving the problem, they just want to make a political point,” he said.

...

“This is not a militarization of the border,” the memo states. “The DPS and the National Guard are working to keep any drug and human trafficking south of (U.S. Highway) 83 and with the goal of keeping any smuggling from entering major highways to transport East/West/and North.”

...

“It is not clear where the money will come from in the budget,” the memo states, adding that Perry's office has said the money will come from “non critical” areas, such as health care or transportation.

I guess this answers ZH's Perry/Obama caption contest.

While I am a strong supporter of border security (particularly the Mexican border) I wouldn't trust either of these douchebags farther than I could throw 'em...

Perry would like to be President.  He should have activated the National Guard Months ago, maybe years ago.  For that matter every Texas Guard unit could have done their annual training by patrolling the border throughout the entire year.

Note to Perry:  Why did it take you so long to act deciseively?  You aren't ready to be President if you react this slowly.

nothing to be alarmed about

Absolutely. This is strictly a political move. Someone is just eyeing a few moves ahead on the chessboard. If it were real, I would have been done long ago. I am sorry for those deployed, they must know they are participating in a farcical show.

Too bad he can't deploy the Marines or the flow would stop tomorrow.

Deploy the tanks and call them "welcome wagons."

Do you really think this is going to last? Would anyone like to take odds on how long it will be before Obama "nationalizes" the Texas National Guard? Do you really believe that Obama won't do everything in his power to keep the flow of illegals coming? It's the center-piece of his Cloward-Piven move. Nothing, and I mean nothing, must be allowed to get in the way of that. Everything else is secondary.

Look I'm ok with legal immigration as long as the labor market can support it (Which it can't right now.), and the people immigrating are willing to support freedom and the constitution (Which they have no idea of and only care about goodies, and working for 1/4 the prevailing wage)

They should have done this years ago, they need more troops.   If .gov is worried about my "security" why has the border been open for decades? (suitcase nukes, pneumonic plague anyone)  If .gov cares about me being able feed my family why do they keep depressing the labor market with even more workers.

Build the fence already.  Secure the border.

Of course when your country is controlled by a bunch of Globalist Oligarch puppets, it doesn't happen.

potato's picture

They want you to come to the conclusion we need military along the border.....and in a band 5mi from the border. No, actually 10 mi. Hell, 100mi from border just to be safe. THAT, that is an occupation. 80% of usa lives 100mi from border.

SMG's picture

I only want them there to stop the current invation and they build the gosh darn fence alread.  They wanted 4 billion for the current flood, and that would be recurring.  The fence would only cost 2 billion ONCE.

Of course our Satanic NWO Slavemasters and their puppets don't want that, it really in their claws.

exi1ed0ne's picture

I have a fence, and the neighbor cows and horses get through it at least once a year.  Anyone smart and motivated enough to get that far will make short work of a fence.

SMG's picture

Then it's a crappy fence, build a better one.

exi1ed0ne's picture

A fence is designed to slow an attacker, not stop them, in the hopes of increased detection time. Good luck keeping an eye on hundreds of miles of fence in time to do anything but repair the hole.

No amount of security will keep out a determined attacker, and walls work both ways.  It doesn't take much to turn a fortress into a prison, so be careful what you wish for.

I'd pitch in some personal funds to get National Guard on the border.

The President is MIA along with the Federal government.

LEGAL immigration is what is KILLING the old America.
Legal immigration is now almost totally from Asia, Latin America and Africa. All of these groups are HOSTILE to the founding stock of this nation. Just look at Silicon valley now, started by Whites now being taken over by Asians. Supporting LEGAL immigration is SUICIDE for Whites.

The problem here is you assume that those people in government, namely the politicians actually "Care" about you. They don't. All they care about are those little numbers that are on the voting ballot each election to justify them having to sit there and do very little. Hispanic immigrants are a unique kind of immigrant as both the Democrats and the Republicans can directly benefit from their political affiliations and beliefs. One the one hand you have a group of people that often vote for expanded welfare services (which directly benefits them) which helps Democrats. On the other you have a socially conservative, low-skill workers that benefit Republicans on social-conservative issues.

Obviously the losers here are poor white people and a vast vast VAST number of Blacks. I'd even argue that illegal immigration single handidly is destroying any prospects blacks have for work, or getting out of the ghetto.

This is mostly from just observation as an immigrant to the US living in Los Angeles.

SF beatnik's picture

You'd think the blacks would raise hell over this.

Maybe the media propaganda has them flim flammed.

SF beatnik's picture

The fence doesn't haven't be expensive. Six-foot chain link would do. It only needs to delineate a no-man's zone of land mines and straffing machine gun fire.

What took him so long?

Mostly because it doesn't matter much.  He's still forced to turn them over to be put into a camp and put on a bus to be brought into your hometown anyway....

I'd be impressed if he'd turn them around and not turn them over.

The only good that could come of it is if he finds one with a prayer rug and an pocket full of anthrax.

Who's the real threat here anyway? A bunch of Mexicans who just want to pick apples for a few dollars, or the mass of Americans with guns and uniforms willing to murder you when ordered to do so? The same Americans who grab your nuts at the airport, read all of your fuckin emails without your concent, and flashbang babies in their cribs...

It is not America, but the DC US.

Americans and the American country bear some responsibility, but we are not the instigators.

MassDecep's picture

The responsibilities being what? The whole voting systems is rigged and owned by Obama's boss's They make it look like a close election and and rigg the important ones. They may throw you a few bones here and there to keep you believing, but when they want their man, they get em. Now a days, both candidates are "their man".

kchrisc's picture

"The responsibilities being what?"

Responsibility for not thinking and not taking personal responsibility to maintain our freedoms.

Not a big fan of conservative or liberal only news, but I think this has a lot of truth in it. As we the sheeple have had our collective heads up our asses since, I don't know, the 50's, we need to recognize that we are responsible for more than our (percentage of world population) share of suffering on this planet.
