Key Piece of Video “Evidence” for Russian Responsibility for Malaysian Plane Shootdown Debunked

Today, Mish debunked one of the main pieces of video “evidence” claimed by the mainstream media to prove that Russia was behind the shootdown of the Malaysian plane over Ukraine:

Jacob Dreizin, a US citizen who speaks Russian and reads Ukrainian provided this update three hours ago.

Hello Mish,

On Friday, the Daily Mail, one of the major UK tabloids carried photos and video of what was alleged to be a rebel “Buk” launcher heading back to Russia.  The article carried a claim from some Ukrainian source that the launcher was missing several missiles after having shot them at the Malaysian 777.  The article was prominently linked to the Drudge Report, and so was probably viewed by several million people.

Today, this meme made it into Uncle Sam’s official narrative, as per the following New York Times excerpt:

On the CBS program “Face the Nation,” Mr. Kerry referred to a video that the Ukrainians have made public showing an SA-11 unit heading back to Russia after the downing of the plane with “a missing missile or so.”

The video referenced by the New York Times was, in fact, posted on the Facebook account of the Ukrainian Interior Minister. The allegation was that the launcher was crossing the border with Russia.

However, going by the billboard and other features of the scenery, Russian bloggers and news sources claim to have identified the road in the video as having been taken in or near the town of Krasnoarmeisk (“Krasnoarmiysk” in Ukrainian), which has been under Kiev’s control since May.

In fact, the billboard is supposedly advertising a Krasnoarmeisk car dealership.  Also, one of the structures in the background is said to be a construction materials store on Gorkii Street, Krasnoarmeisk.

Please note that this town is (very roughly) 120 kilometers from the Russian border and 80 kilometers from where the Malaysian 777 went down.  And again, it has been under Kiev’s control since May.

At least one other clip of the “Russian Buk” that has been made available also suggests that the Ukrainians are showing their own equipment. I’m still working on researching that one for you.

Video in Question

It is beyond incredibly sloppy for Ukraine to release such a video with a clear billboard of something in Ukraine-held territory, purportedly showing a Buk missile launcher headed back to Russia.

And we are supposed to believe Kiev? Kerry?

Please be serious. If you are really interested in the truth, you do not resort to such easily disproved and sloppy bullsheet.

This is – of course, not the first piece of video “evidence” trumpeted by the MSM which has been debunked.

They do the same thing in the stock market. Like on the dis-information and ignite the momentum to drive things in whatever direction you want. These early releases of false information get the whole world against Putin, via momentum, but we still wait for the correction at the bottom of page B-23.

SilvertonguedAngel's picture

I agree that the intent of the dis-information campaign is to pull 'the whole world' against Putin, I don't agree that it has worked indeed it apears to have back-fired. Who do you think has switched sides from Putin to Obama because of this plane crash? Certainly not any of the leaders of any of the BRICS nations.

And then there's the curiouser and curiouser story of Carlos, the Spanish air traffic controller working at Kiev's tower, who was following MH17 in real time. For some Carlos is legit - not a cipher; for others, he's never even worked in Ukraine. Anyway he tweeted like mad. His account - not accidentally - has been shut down, and he has disappeared; his friends are now desperately looking for him. I managed to read all his tweets in Spanish when the account was still online - and now copies and an English translation are available.

These are some of his crucial tweets:

"The B777 was escorted by 2 Ukrainian fighter jets minutes before disappearing from radar (5.48 pm)"
"If the Kiev authorities want to admit the truth 2 fighter jets were flying very close a few minutes before the incident but did not shoot down the airliner (5.54)"
"As soon as the Malaysia Airlines B777 disappeared the Kiev military authority informed us of the shooting down. How did they know? (6.00)"
"Everything has been recorded on radar. For those that don't believe it, it was taken down by Kiev; we know that here (in traffic control) and the military air traffic control know it too (7.14)"
"The Ministry of the Interior did know that there were fighter aircraft in the area, but the Ministry of Defense didn't. (7.15)"
"The military confirm that it was Ukraine, but it is not known where the order came from. (7.31)"

Assuming Carlos is legit, the assessment makes sense. The Ukrainian military are divided between Chocolate king President Petro Poroshenko - who would like a d?tente with Russia essentially to advance his shady business interests - and Saint Yulia Timoshenko, who's on the record advocating genocide of ethnic Russians in Eastern Ukraine. US neo-cons and US "military advisers" on the ground are proverbially hedging their bets, supporting both the Poroshenko and Timoshenko factions.

NOZZLE's picture

Escorting, more like trying to mask their presence in its shadow only to appear at a crucial moment to bomb more civilian targets with phosphorus bombs.

Dewey Cheatum Howe's picture

Yes there has been reports of fighter jets shadowing civilian planes to hide from radar detection before bombing targets. What makes this more interesting as someone posted here before is that supposedly they've been spoofing civilian airliner identification signatures which if you were doing bombing runs would probably require the Ukrainian air traffic controllers to be in on it with someone remotely turning these things on and off at the same time to not arouse suspicion.

pazmaker's picture

If all this is true... about the Carlos guy and what he tweeted, I think the logical conclusion would be the Ukraine was using the Malaysian commercial airline to piggyback and hide in order to perform some bombing runs on rebel held territory.   The rebels then shot down the commercial airliner mistaken it for Ukraine military.

Dewey Cheatum Howe's picture

Think of it this way spoofing the airliner's identification signatures or not.

Eurocontrol considering the size of it most certainly works with NATO and other military organizations to coordinate flight paths etc.

They are the ones that approved the flght plan that took this plane over the region and cruising at just above restricted airspace.

Once it gets into Ukrainian airspace the Ukrainian air traffic controllers had to have picked up fighter jets shadowing the plane on radar going in for a bombing run using the plane as cover if that is the case and would be reason more so than anything else why the records were all confiscated in the first place.

It doesn't answer who shot it down but it does tie all the other pieces of information so far together.

conscious being's picture

Its not very complicated.  Why won't the Kiev Junta release the control tower tapes??  MH370, Kuala Lumpur released theirs right away.  [Remember all the talk about the last word heard from the flight, saying "Good night." etc.??]

The fact that Kiev is hiding this important evidence stinks to high heaven.

From Ron Paul at The Ron Paul Institute for Peace and Prosperity:

Just days after the tragic crash of a Malaysian Airlines flight over eastern Ukraine, Western politicians and media joined together to gain the maximum propaganda value from the disaster. It had to be Russia; it had to be Putin, they said. President Obama held a press conference to claim – even before an investigation – that it was pro-Russian rebels in the region who were responsible. His ambassador to the UN, Samantha Power, did the same at the UN Security Council – just one day after the crash!

While western media outlets rush to repeat government propaganda on the event, there are a few things they will not report.

They will not report that the crisis in Ukraine started late last year, when EU and U.S.-supported protesters plotted the overthrow of the elected Ukrainian president, Viktor Yanukovych. Without U.S.-sponsored “regime change,” it is unlikely that hundreds would have been killed in the unrest that followed. Nor would the Malaysian Airlines crash have happened.

The media has reported that the plane must have been shot down by Russian forces or Russian-backed separatists, because the missile that reportedly brought down the plane was Russian made. But they will not report that the Ukrainian government also uses the exact same Russian-made weapons.

They will not report that the post-coup government in Kiev has, according to OSCE monitors, killed 250 people in the breakaway Lugansk region since June, including 20 killed as government forces bombed the city center the day after the plane crash! Most of these are civilians and together they roughly equal the number killed in the plane crash. By contrast, Russia has killed no one in Ukraine, and the separatists have struck largely military, not civilian, targets.

They will not report that the U.S. has strongly backed the Ukrainian government in these attacks on civilians, which a State Department spokeswoman called “measured and moderate.”

They will not report that neither Russia nor the separatists in eastern Ukraine have anything to gain but everything to lose by shooting down a passenger liner full of civilians.

They will not report that the Ukrainian government has much to gain by pinning the attack on Russia, and that the Ukrainian prime minister has already expressed his pleasure that Russia is being blamed for the attack.

They will not report that the missile that apparently shot down the plane was from a sophisticated surface-to-air missile system that requires a good deal of training that the separatists do not have.

They will not report that the separatists in eastern Ukraine have inflicted considerable losses on the Ukrainian government in the week before the plane was downed.

They will not report how similar this is to last summer’s U.S. claim that the Assad government in Syria had used poison gas against civilians in Ghouta. Assad was also gaining the upper hand in his struggle with U.S.-backed rebels and the U.S. claimed that the attack came from Syrian government positions. Then, U.S. claims led us to the brink of another war in the Middle East. At the last minute public opposition forced Obama to back down – and we have learned since then that U.S. claims about the gas attack were false.

Of course it is entirely possible that the Obama administration and the U.S. media has it right this time, and Russia or the separatists in eastern Ukraine either purposely or inadvertently shot down this aircraft.

The real point is, it’s very difficult to get accurate information so everybody engages in propaganda. At this point it would be unwise to say the Russians did it, the Ukrainian government did it, or the rebels did it. Is it so hard to simply demand a real investigation?

DeadFred's picture

It's not clear to me why they do this but they have a history of putting out utter rebish for evidence. Take for example the 'birth cerficate' you can find on, a gifted third grader could do better. Is it hubris? Are they actually trying to get caught like a serial killer leaving clues? Is it blackmail leverage left there so if they don't toe the line some 'real' MSM reporter can 'discover' the evidence? This stuff goes beyond simple incompetence but the real reason eludes me.

RafterManFMJ's picture

This stuff goes beyond simple incompetence but the real reason eludes me.

The beliefs of the Satan worshippers COMPELS them to warn and to provide clues to just what exactly they intend.

TheReplacement's picture

It is because they are convinced that the majority won't even look at it much less question the official narrative.  The majority is dumbed down, sedated, captured.  There is no need to try as hard as they used to.  Don't be surprised if they eventually start using stick figure cartoons as evidence.

ATM's picture

I think it is actually because only somone with half a brain would question it (while those with no brain do not).

Those doubters can then be ridiculed into submission. Ever read Saul Alinsky? Rdicule is powerful.

Dewey Cheatum Howe's picture

It is worse than that. They have a hard copy of his Kenyan birth certificate with baby foot prints on it. That one could be totally debunked or proven very easily since law enforcement in the past and to this day have used baby foot prints on birth certificates or other hospital documentation to identify adult victims where they don't have other records to work with especially in years past before DNA testing became available.

That is something that would stand up in any court of law including a request to authenticate the document in the first place.

boattrash's picture

Dewey, you're both spot-on. It seems though, that our judges/courts/justices can NOT be bothered with such trivial things as Conatitutional Issues on eligibility for the office of POTUS.

The Alarmist's picture

Ah, the birth certificate ... I especially liked the fact that the signing doctor in Hawaii was name U.K.L. Lee (if it doesn't jump out at you, try saying it a couple times).

NOZZLE's picture

That and the disgusting lie that Russians were looting the belongings of victims, also debunked

0b1knob's picture

And if the Russians were responsible wouldn't you see people on RT quiting in disgust at the propaganda?  Oh wait...

conscious being's picture

Just presstitute tools, hoping to lick some bankster crack.  Let's see if they made the right career move.

Engage you powers of critical thinking and save yourself knob.

neuronius's picture

Awesome powers of deduction...  Your argument is completely irrelevant.  The Russian government's responsibility for this tragedy has absolutely nothing to do with who RT hires (and who subsequently leaves the organization for whatever reason).  A smart person would realize that all news outlets (Al Jazeera, MSNBC, Fox, RT, PressTV, etc. etc.) conduct propaganda missions against their viewers/readers, and this same person would also conclude that the only way to get the full story is to listen to all and follow none. Of course, trolls and shills don't get this, and immediately use every lame opportunity to divert blame to their least favorite group of people for the tragedy of the day.

Shut your hole, crap is leaking out.

The Alarmist's picture

But, but, but ... didn't our leaders tell us that these photos were geotagged and that that was the proof that they were taken at the border, and should't we believe that since you can't just open up a programme like photoshop and change things like dates, geotags, and other identifying information?

ebworthen's picture

ABC News with Diane Sawyer tonight reported that video as part of the "proof" that the Russians did it.

They also called the Russian military presentation today "like a movie set", and said "supposed radar signatures" about the radar data displayed, and called the illustrations of the planes in the air at the time "cartoonish" (it looked a lot better to me than anything the Pentagon has put out).

Journalism?  Goebbels is jealous.
