US: Just TRUST Us, We Wouldn't Lie … and Those Iraq War Lies Are ANCIENT HISTORY

George Washington's picture

Graphic by Michael Rivero

In the following 5-minute clip from a question and answer session between State Department spokeswoman Marie Harf and the American press, the U.S. State Department says (stripped of fluff):

We’re the good guys who tell the truth, and Russians are liars.

Forget Iraq … that’s ancient history.

Just trust us.

If the Iraq war is too far back to qualify as modern history, the U.S. government also told a pack of lies LAST YEAR to try to start a war against Syria.  Or is that too long ago to be relevant to judging U.S. willingness to tell whoppers?

As Zero Hedge pointed out days ago, it doesn’t matter what really happened … the U.S. has announced that Russia did it.  Forget fiat money … this is fiat intelligence.

You CAN trust me on that. I worship Putin and that is well known around here.

You should try to be honest with yourself. You will understand things better.

We can start with the bullshit photo of the "launchers minus two missles being driven to Russia" that turned out to have been taken months earlier in territory controlled by your precious Maidans.

We can include the disgusting lie that possessions of the dead were being looted.

We can include the disgusting lie that the US has proof when it claims that radar data is classified, really should we wait for the next Snowden to tell us what we already know?

How about the continuos flogging to the Coptic Christian as the cause for Benghazi, same State Department we should trust now?

That is the kind of characterization 'americans' long for.

'Americans' are responsible for everything.

'Americans' always lie.

'Americans' have always had a strong interest in diluting responsibility. Claiming that things are undiscerned helps the case.

Since 'americans' always lie, why bother?

The tale that 'americans' are responsible for everything helps to elude times when 'americans' are responsible.

The fear for 'americans' is that if their government states facts on this case, it only magnifies the times when their government lies. As their government might be able to tell facts and sput propaganda, it only puts one another in perspective.

On the oppposite, by claiming that their govermnent always lie, the commonality of the event dilutes any attempt to discern, why bother discerning since all of this is lies?

Ever deal with a compulsive pathological liar? I have. I was married to one for a time. After a while, you stop giving that person the benefit of the doubt.

The US gov't has never, ever told the whole truth about any event that has occured over the last 150 years, and in most cases have at the very least been obfuscatory, if not just bald-faced lying. There is no reason to believe that they're telling the truth now, especially considering that they are offering not one shred of evidence to back their claims. Meanwhile, the Russians are offering up real forensic evidence and asking very pointed questions. You tell me who is more credible.

Don't forget that the US had a spy satellite overhead when MH17 went down. The Russians have brought this to light, which exact satellite it was, and has asked for the photos to be made public. The fact that the US has classified those pics is pretty damning.

A fuck of a lot more than the West is offering up.  http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2014-07-21/russia-says-has-photos-ukraine-...

The Russians simply showed the civilian radar signatures, that's all they needed. You see what you want to see - and since you are a russophobic fucktard, you don't see a group of hard working fighters giving up time from the front lines to guide a bunch of officials to a crash site when they have a war to fight.

Way I see it is that it is either the US or the Russians who are responsible for murdering the passengers on the plane.  Both sides are making lots of noise but until the results of an official investigation are known nobody can say for sure who done it.

Who stands to gain most from committing such a terrible crime?  Identifying the motive is as good a place to start as any.

The sad thing is that whoever is responsible for the murder of these 300 people will probably never be held accountable in a court of law.

On the other hand...  (playing devils advocate)

There is no crime here at all.

(assuming) the separatists shot down MH17...

They had the complete right to do so.

An aircraft they did not give authorisation to - overflew their airspace - during a time of war.

They were completely within their rights to shot it down.

And the Kiev regime(air traffic control) had no business routing any flights through this airspace.

And that makes them the liable party - such as any exists.

( altho not to let Malaysian Airlines off the hook either, for flying there - and then over-flying Syria for Christ's sake... how stupid are these guys??? )

Being anti-lies and anti-war does NOT equal being pro-Russian. As an American, I want peace and prosperity for my country.

The same cast of characters who got us into Iraq, Libya and (almost) Syria now want to get us into Ukraine and eventually Russia. THEY are anti-American, because war with Russia would destroy BOTH the U.S. and Russia.

Hey dumbass,

Putin is not trying to get the US into a war with Russia, or Syria, or Libya, or Iraq, or Afghanistan, or China, or anyone.  There is no need to debunk him as long as the urgent issue at hand is the liars, theives, and murderers in DC ARE trying to do those things.

Once our house is in order, then call out Putin.  If you see someone saying Putin is the best thing ever then yeah, call it.  For now, Putin is not our problem, we are our problem.

Roadhazard:  You don't see allied governments' willingness to point the finger and demand sanctions before there is a clear picture of what happened as even the slightest bit provocative?  For me, it calls to mind attitudes in 1914, a period when, most modern historians will agree, there was a 'general will to war'.  It's also very similar to the attitudes displayed prior to the first Gulf War.

I'm not sure 'can't afford a war' is really valid either.  Prior to the outbreak of WW2, a lot of debt was written off very quickly indeed.  Also, how broke can you be when you can print as much of the world's reserve currency as you damn well please?

In short, and as demonstrated in responses above, I think the main reason that ZH'ers are picking apart the evidence is because if western governments are left to their own devices the consequences could potentially be very dire for all of us.

I'm being SHOWN that the rebels shot it down with or without Russian help. You show me ANY evidence it is a Western op. You got nothing but smoke, check yourself.

The civilian radar shows a plane on an intercept course. That's all we have at this time. Watch the video again, if you can't figure it out then, well, I for one think you are gullible and that you do tolerate bullshit. She was asked for evidence, she gave none citing security concerns. That's bullshit. That's a MASSIVE PILE of it.

And if you think WE'VE got nothing, check yourself... NONE OF US have anything because this is a news site and we are people sitting with computers gassing about something that happened at the other side of the world. You're not a master of anything, know nothing of evidence, have no evidence of anything and never did becuse you're just a consumer of news with a keyboard and a fantasy that you can cut through all of the bullshit. Evidently, nobody here thinks you have brought anything to this party. Maybe we're all full of bullshit I don't know, I'm passed caring to be honest.

I noticed you've ducked my question, so I ask again - why shouldn't reasonable doubt delay war?  How can a snap judgement, such as the one you are making, be justified under such circustances?  What you are being shown is being shown from a well documented instrument for propaganda.  Should it not be questioned?

Tue, 07/22/2014 - 18:33 | 4990464 roadhazard

"snap judgment", funny you don't ask the Western op people that same thing. It's like the red/blue deal, only the supposed "blue" people get the red/blue speech. As far as I'm comcerned at this point the US is in a cherry position. Something happened they had nothing to do with. McCain is so happy he can hardly stand it. I can smell bullshit PDQ. I am 2/0 against government bullshit from day one (Vietnam and Iraq) so I am pretty confident in my track record.  All you have to do is show me I'm wrong instead of leaning on past history.

Why the obfuscation and back peddling by intelligence services if the US position is so clear?

Yes, 'snap judgement', the snap judgement that you have made based on some ego re-enforcing  'bullshit detector' mechanism that you claim to have, the efficacy of which is, apparently, demonstrated by your own personal 'past' history (though I should not be allowed to form my arguments using historical examples).  We are discussing evidence, your arguments are a tangle of illogical nonsense.  And yet again you have ducked my question, though I was good enough to answer yours.

To borrow from good old Will Shakespeare, “I would challenge you to a battle of wits, but I see you are unarmed!”

The FP explanation for the backpedaling:

2nd to last paragraph-

The officials were especially concerned with countering various theories put forward in the Russian press that claimed Ukrainian military forces shot down MH17. Dismissing the stories as "propaganda," the officials spent about half of the briefing debunking claims that a Ukrainian SA-11 battery or an attack plane was the guilty culprit.

Ty.  I think this will probably become the official narrative very quickly.  It allows the Obama administration to save face somewhat, blames a Russian proxy instead of Russia outright, yet prevents Putin from justifying a retaliatory invasion of the Ukraine.

They certainly sound concerned about the 'propaganda'.  I don't expect the victims' families will ever get a sensible answer, sadly.

This made me laugh though:

"he holds Putin responsible for, at the very least, creating the unstable and confused wartime conditions in eastern Ukraine that set the stage for such a tragedy."

Would probably land most of the past and present leaders of the developed world in jail if used as a measure of guilt in international law.  And no metion of the installation of a US/EU friendly admin in Kiev.

Did I say there was a lie?  Certainly there are questions surrounding an alledged Pro-Russian Gadfly SAM which has been now been identified as operating in a Ukranian held territory.  There are questions surrounding Pro-Russians use and ownership of these weapon systems.  There are questions surrounding the diversion of the flightpath.  There are questions surrounding the Russians' evidence.  There are questions surrounding the timestamp on 'intercepted' footage.  There are questions surrounding motivation.  There are questions over the EU/US involvement in Ukranian government.  There are questions surrounding Blackwater's involvement.

There are enough questions to provide enough 'reasonable doubt' that snap judgements shouldn't be made.  Reasonable doubt would delay a murder conviction, why shouldn't reasonable doubt delay the death of hundreds/thousands (millions?).

This time we need to see the WMDs.  There is far too much at stake.

Anyone remember the time the US airforce dropped a bomb on the Chinese Embassy in Belgrade, killed a whole bunch of chinks and then blamed it on a faulty road map?

Anyone remember the time the US airforce dropped a bomb on a Tv station in downtown Belgrade, killed 13 men and women and blamed it on some bullshit targeting error?

Anyone remember the time the US airforce dropped two boon a commuter train in Leskovac Serbia and blamed the second run on faulty intelligence even though video from the first bomb indicated they had just killed 43 civilians instead of Arkan's Tigers?
