Rebels Shoot Down Two Ukraine Fighter Jets, Defense Ministry Reports - Video Coverage
At this point it is beyond any one (or countless number of) human beings to distinguish truth from lies from epic propaganda, so we won't even try. Here is the latest relevant news that just crossed the stream from Ukraine's defense ministry. From Bloomberg:

More from Reuters: Pro-Russian rebels have shot down two Ukrainian fighter jets, a spokesman for Ukraine's military operations said on Wednesday. The spokesman said the two were downed near Savur Mogila in eastern Ukraine. No details were known about the pilots.

Pro-Russian separatists shot down two Ukrainian fighter jets Wednesday over a town close to where Malaysia Airlines 3786.KU -2.17% Flight 17 crashed last week, a Ukrainian defense ministry spokesman said.
Two SU-25 planes were brought down near the town of Saur-Mogila, which sits close to the Russian border and is 20 kilometers (12 miles) from Torez, where the civilian jet was brought down last Thursday, the spokesman said.
The alleged shoot-down of the jets would mark the first time a plane has been brought down over Ukraine since the crash.
The spokesman said the army dispatched a team to the scene to establish the exact circumstances of the downing of the jets. Rebels didn't immediately comment
As a reminder, it was the same Ukraine which hours before the MH17 crash insisted that a Russian fighter jet had downed a Ukraine warplane, a story which promptly disappeared once Russia rejected it as idiotic and once the much more severe fallout from the MH17 disaster hit.
Somehow we have a feeling this is merely yet another attempt by Ukraine to keep the pressure on the rebels now that the international response to MH17 has been muted by nearly 100% following Europe's complete inability to agree on what if any sanctions should be imposed on Putin, and the US state department presenting evidence of Russian involvement that can best be described as laughable.

These are low flying ground support aircraft that have a maximum altitude sell below that at which airliners fly. They can be shot down with shoulder fired missiles, which the rebels have. Airliners require more advanced systems which only State armies possess.

They said the fighter was flying the same line at roughly the same altitude. They did not say the fighter shot down the airliner, they ask why it was there and what it was doing.
Look at the 'evidence" supplied by Russia, it clearly shows the fighter below the airliner.
It is assumed the airliner was downed with a missle, seen any proof of that yet ? I have not.......

"Rebels" have claimed shooting down many planes at lower altitudes. Leader either misspoke or was misquoted or mistranslated. Remember these are for all intents and purposes civilian volunteers in a citizens army, not professionals. Resistance spokesmen have reported Ukraine has resorted to high altitude bombing. Thus even if they don't have missiles that can reach high altitudes (I don't for a minute believe the Ukie story) the airspace over the battle for Donetsk and Lugansk is a war zone, because the Ukies are "shooting" from high altitude and the "rebels" would be fully justified in shooting back if they were ever to obtain the means to do so.
Routing civilian airliners through that airspace is criminal insanity.

SU25 is mainly a low level attack aircraft...at Saur Mogila would be very much low altitude in real compared to Commercial Airline normally.

Su-25, according to my information, has a maximum altitude (unloaded) of about 23,000 feet MSL.
Loaded maximum altitude is about 16,000 ft MSL.
Maximum speed is about 525 knots (600 MPH) at Sea Level, slower at altitude.
There are two Russian-made man-portable Air Defense systems that could hit it at the 'loaded' maximum altitude:
SA-16 a.k.a. 9K310 "Igla" (needle)
SA-18 - a.k.a. 9K38 "igla" (needle)
If they were between 16,000 and 20,000 feet then an SA-24 could hit them. But Russia only fielded the SA-24 to the Russian Army in 2004. And Ukraine has never had SA-24's.

So, didn't Russia report yesterday that there were 2 SU-25's "accelerating" towards MH17 in its final moments?
MH17 was at 33,000 feet and traveling at about 550kts.
In other words MH17 was 13,000 feet higher than an SU-25 can fly under ideal conditions, and flying faster than an SU-25 can fly at sea level.
How could they possibly 'accelerate' towards MH17?????

If the SU 25 was traveling at mach .46 and accelerated to mach .86 (my understanding of its max) towards the airliner it would, in fact, be accelerating towards.....
It does not appear the fighter has the ability to shot down a airliner at 33,000, yet the question was not did it shot it down. The question was why did Ukraine order this fighter to fly "with" the airliner ?

I didn't say anything about SU-25 shooting down anything. I understood that yesterday's Russian report said two SU-25's "accelerated" towards MH-17.
I am noting that since MH17 cruise speed is faster than SU-25 maximum speed, that should be impossible ... if they were SU-25s.
But I might have mis-remembered. Maybe the report did not specify SU-25's. I didn't read the original in Russian, but only extracts in English. So there could have been mistranslation, or also comments interjected from outside.
If I were sure, I would not ask whether I misremembered!

I remember the "Russian 10 Questions" information as unspecified "a military aircraft" that became visible on the radar as MH17 disappeared. One aircraft. I went back to check the video presentation. They said:
At 17:21:35 with aricraft speed of 200km/h there is new mark of an aircraft to be seen". It was monitored for 4 minutes by two different radar stations (names given). The air controller inquired for the air plane characteristics, but couldnt get them. Suggested that no secondary identification thingy on board - which is typical for military aircraft. Then they went on to say that the detection of this aircraft should not be possible because the standby radars operate detection at an altitude above 5000 meters, but in this case the plane was detected as it ascended (not mentioned specifically, but presumably through that 5000 meter threshhold). It remained in the area monitoring the crash site. Then they said this finding should be seen together with the Ukrainian Officials statement earlier, that no Ukranian military craft was in the area at the time of the crash.
So the Russians only spoke of one unspecified aircraft.
The two fighter jets information came from "Carlos", but he did not say anything about SU-25, if I translated correctly . He just mentioned 2 Ukrainian Fighter Jets.

That final para is very interesting. SU-25 max altitude of 10km equals 33,000 feet. 33,000 feet is the altitude that MH17 was ordered to descend to by Kiev ATC.
They will not be carrying missiles at their maximum altitude.
That is why it is the maximum altitude.
It is maximum because it is the most that is possible with a particular engine and wing design.
Is it possible for them to fire a missile and hit?
Yes... But only if they are already in a position to hit it. That is stretching the imagination.
The Russian report yesterday said that they ACCELERATED towards MH17.
I don't think that is possible.
Boeing 777 cruise speed is .84 mach - about 550 knots.
SU-25 TOP SPEED while carrying NOTHING is .8 mach.
If you talk about the SU-39 or some of the local upgrades to SU-25s (SU-25TM, SU-25UTM)... they can get up to .82 mach.
That is not enough to catch up to the air liner.
The particular aircraft in the report could have never caught up with the airliner.

A MIG 29 could have done it. But no one has alleged that there were MIGs there that day.
And also, the aircraft would not be at it's top airspeed relative to the ground when flying at it's maximum altitude.

Ukraine military reports these SU25 were flying at 5km (15000ft). These planes aren't just flying, they are attacking ground targets with unguided rockets. They don't have the up-to-date electronics and can't see much from 15000 ft, they need to come down to 2-2.5km to engage. And at that altitude Strela 10 (SA-13) or Igla (SA-16 or SA-18) can hit the SU25. Doesn't have to be Igla-S.

But I will say that I have challenged, and continue to challenge ANYONE to go to https://www.flightradar24.com find a plane overhead that is above 30,000 feet, then walk outside and report if they see it.
I have yet to get a positive response.
If you can't see a GIGANTIC BRIGHTLY PAINTED commercial airliner at that altitude, then you won't see a small camoflaged fighter.

The Spanish air traffic controller from the Kiev tower who blew (tweeted) the whistle on the Ukie Interior Ministry, and was reportedly threatened with death, her/his Twitter account deleted, and deported, is still missing as far as I know. The media called the tweets and her (his) existence unconfirmed.

When I narrowed the Google Search to "News" and "Past 24 hours" only one news media item in English showed up: a Yahoo News article which included this:
"In May, the Spanish-language channel of Kremlin mouthpiece RT interviewed Carlos and blurred out his face because he claimed he was in danger for criticizing the Ukrainian government.
"However, the Spanish Embassy in Kiev has no record of Carlos, reports Fox News Latino. “We have no knowledge of ‘Carlos’ having been in Ukraine. There is no record of his passing through the Consulate, and no one from the (relatively small) Spanish colony knows him,” it said. Carlos’s Twitter account no longer exists."
(They lost me at the "Kremlin mouthpiece RT" part. I'd trust RT over Yahoo News any day.)
My question is this: Why isn't the world's media still buzzing with the question "Who was Carlos, was his Twitter story real, and where did he/she disappear to?" Instead they've simply stopped mentioning it.
Because of its timing, starting minutes after the flight disappeared, Carlos' tweets, if not authentic, would have to have come from someone fully prepped and aware of what was about to happen and its importance. Finding Carlos then could lead to uncovering the plotters.
Thus the fact that the media is giving the Spanish tweets the silent treatment strongly suggests to me that they are in fact authentic and someone very powerful on "our" side wants them forgotten. If so, authenticating them and finding "Carlos" are of utmost importance, especially now that the Nazi-run Ukraine Interior Ministry has siezed the recorded Kiev Tower conversations and the perfidious British have been given custody of the Black Boxes.

Matthew Bennet of "The Spain Report" is the source of the information that "CARLOS" the infamous Ukrainian Air Traffic Controller who claimed Ukraine destroyed MH17 - DOES NOT EXIST.
The report is behind the paywall of his site.
However, on his facebook page he includes the Spanish embassy's response to his queries. (It is in Spanish - I cannot translate it)
