America's Dumbest Move Yet: Seizing A Foreign Bank

Tyler Durden's picture

Submitted by Simon Black of Sovereign Man blog,

Ten dark suited men entered the premises of FBME bank in Cyprus on Friday afternoon and took it hostage.

It must have looked like a scene from the Matrix. And given the surrealism of how this conflict is escalating, maybe it was.

The men were from the Central Bank of Cyprus (CBC). And they commandeered FBME because an obscure agency within the US government recently issued a report accusing the bank of laundering money.

It just so happens that FBME… and Cyprus in general… is where a lot of wealthy Russians hold their vast fortunes.

Bear in mind, there has been no proof that any crime was committed. There was no court hearing. No charges were read. It wasn’t even the government of Cyprus who accused them of anything.

There was just a generic report penned by some bureaucrat 10,000 miles away.

Funny thing—when HSBC got caught red-handed laundering funds for a Mexican drug cartel last year, the US government gave them a slap on the wrist. HSBC got off with a fine.

Yet when the US government merely hints that FBME could be laundering money, the bank gets taken over at gunpoint.

Welcome to warfare in the 21st century. It’s not about battleships and ground troops anymore.

This time the adversaries are battling each other using what ultimately affects everyone: money.

And on this battlefield the US doesn’t really have many options.

  • US banks still form the nucleus of the global financial system, but this is quickly being replaced.
  • Just last week the BRICS nations met in Fortaleza, Brazil to launch the origins of a brand new, non-US financial system.
  • The US is still the largest economy in the world, but will likely lose this status to China by the end of the year.
  • The US dollar is still the most widely used currency in global trade, but even America’s closest allies (Canada, Western Europe) recognize that the time has come to move beyond the dollar.

So while the US is still running around and barking at others, it is quickly losing its capacity to bite.

Their only tactic is to haphazardly attack Russian interests wherever they can.

They’re sanctioning Russian companies. They’re trying to torpedo international support for Russia. And now they’ve resorted to plundering Russian assets held in other sovereign nations.

Imagine you’re Qatar. Or China. Or Kuwait. Or Singapore. Or anyone else who holds substantial amounts of US debt.

All of these countries understand the lesson loud and clear: when the US doesn’t like you, they will do everything they can to make your life difficult.

Does this inspire confidence? If you’re holding hundreds of billions of dollars of US Treasuries, does this really improve your level of trust in the US?

Probably not.

By terrorizing Russian interests, the Obama administration is begging the rest of the world to reconsider their misplaced trust in the United States.

All these foreign countries really have to do if they want to retaliate is start dumping their US Treasuries. Or simply stop rolling over when the notes mature.

That will cause catastrophic consequences in the United States. Interest rates will soar, inflation will kick in, and the government will be even closer to default than it already is.

Inexplicably, Mr. Obama is practically begging the world to do this. It’s tremendously arrogant.

It’s like the economic warfare equivalent of Napoleon pompously leading his overstretched, exhausted army into Russia.

And neither Napoleon nor Obama gave the slightest consideration to the big picture consequences.

At $17.6 trillion in debt, the US is trying to wage economic war without any ammunition. It’s not something that is going to work out well for them.

The U.S. Is trying to create animosity towards Putin from the Oligarchs..evidently they are too stupid to realize that many are wealthy from him carving out monopolies governmentally sanctioned by him and partnered with him for years..they despise the West for their interference in their affairs for decades now.
They will stick together and he will make them whole regardless.

Re "All these foreign countries really have to do if they want to retaliate is start dumping their US Treasuries. America is doomed.

Even if Bath House fails in a number of his efforts, he will still leave the US a broken, demoralized country replete with violence, starvation, and eventually- as all dictatorships devolve into- mass murder.

Yeah, lakecity55, I originally thought it was quite astonishing that Kyle Bass was directly told that apparent truth about the PLAN being to kill the American dollar! Lots of people were speculating about that, on the basis of agenda analysis, however, the statement that Bass reported upon being baldly told succinctly summarized that PLAN.

The language that I tend to use is that, since the debt controls were always backed up by the death controls, therefore, when the debt slavery systems generate numbers that become debt insanities, which are mathematically impossible to ever repay, then the "reasonable" conclusion is that will provoke death insanities, in this case, democidal martial law.

I REPEAT this quote, that I always find relevant to summarize the tragic situation:

http://www.conspiracyarchive.com/NWO/silent_weapons_quiet_wars.htm

Silent Weapons for Quiet Wars

Energy is recognized as the key to all activity on earth. Natural science is the study of the sources and control of natural energy, and social science, theoretically expressed as economics, is the study of the sources and control of social energy. Both are bookkeeping systems: mathematics. Therefore, mathematics is the primary energy science. And the bookkeeper can be king if the public can be kept ignorant of the methodology of the bookkeeping. ... In this structure, credit, presented as a pure element called "currency," has the appearance of capital, but is in effect negative capital. Hence, it has the appearance of service, but is in fact, indebtedness or debt. ... if balanced in no other way, will be balanced by the negation of population (war, genocide)... They must eventually resort to war to balance the account, because war ultimately is merely the act of destroying the creditor ... War is therefore the balancing of the system by killing the true creditors (the public ...) the economy has been transformed into a guided missile on target.

SINCE THE AMERICAN MONETARY SYSTEM WAS TAKEN BACK OVER BY THE INTERNATIONAL BANKERS, THERE HAS BEEN EXPONENTIALLY ACCELERATING DEBT SLAVERY, WHICH WAS ALWAYS INHERENTLY HEADED TOWARDS DEBT INSANITY. The nearly perfect match of the total debts of the USA to an exponential growth curve has meant that under President Bush II those debts increased more than under all Presidents before him, while under President Obama, total debts increased more than under all Presidents before him, including Bush II.

As long as America continues to have a MAD Money As Debt system, then nothing else can happen but more runaway debt insanities. The American Empire, or the Anglo-American (Zionist) Bankster Empire is continuing to throw its weight around, attempting to continue to enforce frauds, and back up deceits with destruction, despite that being MADNESS. Almost everyday, another news story like this story appears, about badly backfiring attempts made by the American government to continue to be able to back up its lies with violence. For a long, long, time, that was working. However, in the end, it never works, because enforcing frauds never stop those from still being frauds.

The collapse into chaos of the runaway, American led, triumphs of organized crime controlling civilization is reaching the point of some major "corrections," which are outside the box of the established systems, as well as their controlled opposition. In the end, I expect we will finally end up with some new system of organized lies, operating robberies, that arises after the collapse into crazy chaos of the one that was built up, which surrounds us now.

I see insufficient signs to indicate enough technological and political miracles to prevent the established systems from doing what lakecity55 predicts, i.e.: "leave the US a broken, demoralized country replete with violence, starvation, and eventually - as all dictatorships devolve into - mass murder."

I still WISH that I could come to some different conclusion, however, since about 2008 I have found it impossible to avoid that conclusion. The pessimists have all the rational evidence and logical argument, despite that the optimists still feel better by maintaining some irrational hopes. I WISH I could time warp back, to when I used to be able to day dream more easily about some technological and/or political miracles. However, after listening to people warning what would happen IF we did not change, for decade after decade, I now believe that what they were warning about happening is now too far gone to be avoided. The established systems of enforced frauds have continued to double down, and double down again, on backing their lies up with more violence, and that always made everything get worse, faster ... Therefore, I see nothing left but for the runaway social insanities caused by too much enforced fraud for too long ending any other way than through MAD self-destruction, with psychotic breakdowns of the debt insanities into death insanities.

If the destruction of the American economy continues as it has, then there will have to be martial law to attempt to cope with the consequences of that, which will eventually not work, but still make things get even worse, faster ... (since continuing to try back up the same frauds with more force really reaches diminishing returns.) It remains to be seen to what degree the puppet masters will go through those events. I still like to day dream about some radical truth being enabled to break through, due to the circumstances of the enforced fraud systems breaking down, however, it is hard to see how the political puppets and the masses of muppets, are not going to substantially suffer, due to too much evil deliberate ignorance, for so, so long!

"Inexplicably, Mr. Obama is practically begging the world to do this. It’s tremendously arrogant."

President Obama is a POLITICAL PUPPET.

The financial crises in 2008 were deliberately designed inside jobs, which can be traced back to the excuses for those developments created by the events on 9/11/2001, which were also inside job, false flag attacks. The line of political puppet masters that pull Obama's strings were able to get away with the assassination of President Kennedy, by controlling the investigation afterwards, the same as the events on 9/11 were covered up by public authorities that deliberately prevented any of the proper investigations from being done. Meanwhile, the financial crises in 2008 did not result in any significant changes to prevent things like that happening again. Instead, the perverse systems of incentives were greatly increased by the government's reaction to the financial crises in 2008.

The people that control the people that control the government of the USA have an agenda to deliberately destroy the American democratic republic, and they are clearly succeeding in doing that. There are barely any significant politicians left in North America who are not puppets, performing for the masses of muppets, which were brainwashed to believe in bullshit by the mass media, for generations!

Warfare in the 21st Century is CRIMINAL INSANITY.

What the USA is actually doing is the result of runaway criminal insanity, which was produced by too much success through applying the methods of organized crime to dominate the political processes. The USA is the most advanced system of legalized lies, backed by legalized violence, in the world, which is therefore leading the way in the manifestation of the profoundly paradoxical results flowing from being able to control civilization through backing up deceits with destruction, which are due to the FACT that the violence never makes the lies become true, but nevertheless, continues to succeed in promoting those lies, in ways which drive that society as a whole to become more psychotically insane, as it gets further and further out of touch with reality, since it gets more and more controlled by lies backed by violence, WHICH IS TRAPPED INSIDE CRIMINALLY INSANE SPIRALS!

... Meanwhile, I can see no practical ways to pull out of that downward spiral into that social black hole, where the power of ENFORCED FRAUDS has overwhelming everything else, to the degree that we have already passed beyond the event horizon of that social black hole. More radical truth about how the PREVIOUS "successes" of warfare and economics were based upon deceits and frauds would require enough people to stop understanding those phenomena using false fundamental dichotomies, which were BASIC to the ways that human beings have been thinking and developing their natural languages regarding presumed dualities for a very, very long time. More radical truth of that kind would require enough people stop believing in bullshit "solutions" based on impossible ideals, which actually make the opposite happen in the real world.

The apparently incredible level of stupid incompetence of the American government is due to it being the result of being reduced to having a "government" of puppets performing for muppets. The paradoxical ways that the short-term social successes of enforced frauds drive the entire society towards psychotic madness, resulting in trends towards self-destruction, is unfolding before us.

The only realistic solutions would require explaining the apparently "inexplicable," which requires an intellectual scientific revolution, in order to understand how and why human energy systems are best described by the principles and methods of organized crime, and then embracing that understanding as the only genuine basis to upon which to better resolve the dilemmas, that we need radical social psychiatry to deal with the runaway social insanities, due to the triumphs of organized crime so completely controlling civilization, that the same bullshit also dominates the controlled opposition as much as it does the establishment!

We seem to have to go through the social storms that are coming, because there is no way to stop the social insanity that is driving them. In my view, since we cannot stop it, we should attempt to embrace going through ...

I suggest it is all under control.

Any thinking person armed with the facts can discern Backdoor Barry has been tasked by the powers who own him to collapse the USA.

The US is under Invasion. The military does nothing. Nor do the courts or Congress.

Backdoor Barry is dismantling the US nuclear weapons program. He is dismantling the military and building a fascist police state apparatus with dhs and fema.

Backdoor Barry is pursuing policies designed to push other countries away from the Dollar and encourage a second economic power via the BRICS.

He is destroying the healthcare system and overloading the national budget with utterly incredible levels of debt.

He is now directly provoking Russia with the introduction of US Military personnel as a result of the quite suspicious shootdown of the Malaysian airliner.

I do not think the American people have the ability to wake up and stop the destruction of the United States.

Before he supposedly leaves office, I am confident the US will no longer be a world power, perhaps not even a single country.  It seems obvious there is a plan to Balkanize America, eliminate US Sovereignty and establish a North American economic unit.

Buckle up.

It WAS "under control," only to the degree that lies backed by violence WAS able to maintain control. While that used to work throughout thousands of years of history, the social pyramid systems based on backing up lies with violence were never before amplified by science and technology to become many orders of magnitude BIGGER.

I agree that: "I do not think the American people have the ability to wake up and stop the destruction of the United States." However, I believe that the ruling classes that made and maintained the established systems, and are apparently carrying through their agenda, have become criminally insane, because they are NOT adapting to science and technology providing powers and capabilities that are trillions of times BIGGER. In my view, while there certainly was a conspiracy by the ruling classes to consolidate a globalized social pyramid system, there are no longer any groups of human beings who fully comprehend what is going on, and there are no longer any groups of human beings that are able to control what is going to happen.

In my view, political puppets like President Obama has gotten his control strings so tangled up that he no longer behaves in a coherent way, and his controllers have lost effective control over that situation. Of course, that does not mean that Obama has become free of crazy and corrupt control, but only that the entanglements of his crazy corrupt controls have resulted in nobody being in control. The ruling classes had an agenda. However, that agenda has become criminally insane, while they are too insane to be able to do anything to fix that problem.

Indeed, "buckle up" IF you have a seat belt. However, I do not believe that any seat belt is going to be enough. Thousands of years of successful warfare based on deceits, and hundreds of years of successful finance based on frauds, is NOT able to cope with science and technology advancing at an exponential rate. The human experiment which started that going is now out of control of any groups of human beings!

I just can't buy this "political analysis," or whatever crap it is:

"Inexplicably, Mr. Obama is practically begging the world to do this"

"the US is trying to wage economic war without any ammunition"

This implies that there is a total and serious level of incompetence in political-economic-international affairs (which, is overseen by many more groups than just "Mr. Obama" and his team) which I simply cannot buy.

This article utterly fails to recognize that just maybe, there's a little more to these actions. Could there not be more reasons for Obama going after the Russians besides going out in a last ditch 'bang' of financial desperation because of the US's debt and crumbling global reserve currency status? Yes, of course. How about the imperial conquest for the control of natural resources? Hmm, that sounds about right.

Secondly, if it were so easy for these countries to dump US treasuries, which would have a devasting effect within the US, why haven't they done so already? Why hasn't country even mentioned the possibility of this? I'd like to know more.

Why not?

Do you think anything over the past 25 years can be considered a success? They've had three different wars in Iraq. The country was attacked by a small group of terrorists that many believe were armed by us. The collapse of the Soviet Union would have been the perfect opportunity to bring light to Eastern Europe, instead the old scars of neofascism have been picked again in the Ukraine. The EU is a complete disaster zone of its own making. North Korea, though starving to death, still won't end a 60 year conflict that no one wants to continue. The US' stature in the world has never been lower. And not only that, the only solutions coming out of Washington after an international bank run have been to lock the doors next time a fire starts and hope to god no one reprices oil in another currency besides the dollar.

What exactly makes you so unsure about the level of incompetence here? Even the most sinister on this site have to admit that if there were some sort of elite band of quacks running the world, they've got to look at this and say "whoa, this is fucked up".

Fri, 07/25/2014 - 00:47 | 5002319 Radical Marijuana
Radical Marijuana's picture

The SOURCE of the paradox is that all the "competence" was based on the ability to enforce frauds. Being "competent," in the short-term, to back up lies with violence, has an inherent contradiction over the longer term, that no amount of violence can ever make those lies become true.

THE "elite band of quacks running the world" ARE aware "this is fucked up," however, there is nothing they could do which would result in any sane response to saying "whoa!" They are trapped in their own spiraling black hole of the history of warfare based on deceits, and finance based on frauds, the same as everyone else, if not even more so. They are just as unable to promote more radical truth about themselves, and the nature of their problems, as anyone else, if not even more so!

History selected for the successful series of short-term increments in being better at backing up dishonesty with violence, to gradually create the overwhelming systems of enforced frauds that exist today. However, that selection process for enforced frauds has created an overall situation which is runaway criminal insanity. The ruling classes were never good at anything but being the best at backing up deceits with destruction. However, that is NOT good enough anymore. The globalized systems of electronic fiat money frauds, backed by the threats of the force of atomic bombs, are NOT still within the frame of reference of the history that made and maintained the social pyramid systems, with the kinds of pyramidion people at the top of that system, who HAVE become THE "elite band of quacks running the world."

They are attempting to carry forward their psychological and political habits, and their old-fashioned agenda, despite the available technologies becoming trillions of times more powerful, and headed towards becoming quadrillions of times, which is how and why we ended up with quadrillions of units of funny "money" becoming debt insanities which only exist because they are backed up by matching credible threats of death insanities.

The ruling classes are merely human beings with habits, whose habitual ways of thinking and behaving have become psychotically out of touch with the realities of exponentially advancing science and technology. The first generation that grew up with atomic energy and electronics, etc., is still alive today. NOBODY HAS ADAPTED TO THAT YET, OTHER THAN BY CRUISING ON THE AUTOPILOT OF PERSONAL AND POLITICAL HABITS!

Natural selection pressures upon that situation have not had time to operate, while no kind of better artificial selection systems are able to operate, since the actual artificial selection systems that exist today are those whereby the death controls are done through the maximum possible deceits, and the debt controls are done through the maximum possible frauds, while almost all the controlled opposition groups share in that basic frame of reference.

We do not have the slightest clue how, (or even IF), any civilization adapts to science and technology becoming more powerful and capable at an exponentially accelerating rate, which then is attempted to be channeled through social pyramid systems, which have structural foundations of enforced frauds. The only thing clear now is that we are dismally failing to adapt better, because the only things actually happening are constantly doubling down on more enforced frauds!

The US looking at the longer term picture know that Russian and China will grow in such strength together to eventually dwarf the US. Thus they have desperately been trying to thwart Russian growth.

It would have made much more sense for the US to engage Russia as a friendly and work with them as a economic nation to their mutual benefit. But the US didn't and doesn't want to share global power with anybody.

....Cyprus Bank takeover happened less than 24 hours after USSA lost their control over the Ukraine.

Looks like the first of many desperate moves by the USSA.

Call of Booty: Modern Bankfare - Black Ops videogame incoming in 3... 2... 1

Bless those god-fearing christian bankers waging holy war on the infidel cypriots that have been laundering ter'rist blood money for Putin and Assad.

You get to play as a rookie central bank janitor who stumbles upon a conspiracy that goes to the very top (of Cyprus). On the run from FSB assassins clad in black leather trenchcoats and papakhas only you can stop the omnious ter'rist ops dubbed "Run, dollar, run".

So the bank has only be accused of money laundering. So they have no hard evidence and turn up, outside their jurisdiction and start looking.

If I was the Cypriot government I would send some big guys with no necks to BoA, Wells Fargo, Warcovia etc and say well you have been CAUGHT money laundering we are here  to check your books, here is our court order.

The bank should just kick them out, find a really dark and warm cell and make these guys a guest of the Government till their jurisdiction is found out.

All wars are banker's wars, therefore at the end of each war all bankers should be taken out and executed. This standard practice would thus end banker wars.

  • Just imagine how much better place the world would now be if in 1945 all bankers in the USA and Europe were executed.

Russia needs to hold the line I guess, as it looks like the US is standing in economic and energy quick sand.

But I think any fool can see that if the US really push hard for its goals in the Ukraine and looks like achieving them, then Russia will take more overt action that creates problems for the US where it hurts.

I mean this has to be so obvious - the US and Europe so energy cost sensitive, the USD shakey....with US relationship with Europe getting so much worse.....,

Sorry....but the "largest economy in the world" is NOT the US. It's the Euro-Zone thats the world's largest economy. Soon to be followed by China and then the US.
