Obama Sued: House Authorizes Lawsuit Against President With 225-201 Vote

Tyler Durden's picture

Argentina defaults; Russia, Ukraine, Libya, Israel, Gaza, Iraq all in a state of (hot or otherwise) war, the worst Ebola epidemic in the history of Africa, and now Obama is getting sued.

And from Reuters:

The Republican-led U.S. House of Representatives on Wednesday cleared the way for the launch of a lawsuit accusing President Barack Obama of overstepping his authority in carrying out his landmark healthcare reform law.

The 225-201 vote, along party lines, to authorize the suit will allow House lawyers to draft legal documents over a five-week summer recess starting on Friday.

It cements the action as a lightning rod for months of bitter campaign rhetoric from both Republicans and Democrats ahead of November elections that will determine the political control of Congress next year.

The suit is expected to claim that Obama exceeded his executive authority in making unilateral changes to the Affordable Care Act, known as Obamacare.

And then this:

If this doesn't send the S&P to new record highs tomorrow, the Fed better find another market to rig.

Incidentally, for those confused, this is nothing but more theater. If the GOP, i.e., the orange folding lawnchair, really wanted to go after Obama, they would have impeached.

Meanwhile, somewhere in the bowels of the Kremlin, Putin is cackling like a madman.

Does this mean we finally get to see his REAL birth certicate and citizenship?

When does he pay his fair share ?

Since the last impeachment of a president went absolutely nowhere, I'm sure this lawsuit will entertain for about a week, if that...

flacon's picture

The last impeachment backfired on the Repubs. Remember Ken Starr?

11b40's picture

Sure do.....he is the character who spent about $100,000,000 taxpayer dollars poking around in Bill Clinton's underware.  The funny is, if it had not been for the blue dress, he would have proved nothing - zip, nada, zero.

Just stop the hatin', y'all!

Complete waste of time and money.

But what else can they (congress) do?

cowdiddly's picture

Right, it will take more than 2.5 years to even get to the courts if at all. You have to laugh because if you think about how sad our leadership has become you would cry. We are the laughing stock of the entire world.

Mr. President, please implement Martial Law in THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, abolish Congress and the Supreme Court, and govern by decree.

r00t61's picture

It's been mentioned before, but if the Demopublicans were actually mad about Obamacare, they could simply choose to de-fund it.  That is one of the explicitly-defined powers of Congress in the Constitution.

That they haven't done so, and decided to grace us instead with the usual WWE pro-wrestling theatre of a "lawsuit," should tell anyone with a functioning brain all they need to know.

"Politics is show business for ugly people."

Comte de Saint Germain's picture

The US legal system doesn’t have any jurisdiction over Barack Obama, since the title of President is merely a symbolic position defined in the Constitution to effectively govern the brute and ignorant masses, while giving these savages a false sense of freedom and independence. Mr. Obama is the current Viceroy of THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, the chief British government official and representative of the British Monarch in those territories. He is also a Patriarch representing His Holiness Pope Francis I and appointed to manage Vatican’s secular affairs.

As a staunch liberal, I just don't get you Constitutionalists. Why don't you want to be ruled by your government officials? Why would you ever want to, like, run your own life and stuff?

Life is hard enough as it is! Think about it. You never have to think again!

jwoop66's picture

right on, dude!   Don't worry, the R's are just setting the stage to throw the next election.   They probably feel they are getting uncomfortably close to winning; and therebye having to do stuff(only one or two small things) that is in thier party platform.

I can see jebbushromney sayin," I coulda been a contenda, challie! I coulda been someone!"

I hate this lawless president with every fiber of my being...

And think we will destroy this country.

But with that said...

I think the Republicans are such spinless wussies.

They're deathly afraid of what the MSM...

Will say about them.

So they're going the suit route in hopes...

Someone else will do their dirty work for them.

We're so fucked!

You can't despise Barack Abominable enough.

But then that was true of Bush and will be true of whoever comes next.

Not quite.  The US is a corporation, not a territory. It's owners; however, are not plain to see.

I see that theory a lot, based on a certain ACT in the late 1800s, right?

Not actually true.

since they like to tout the virtues of democracy, I say get rid of them all and replace them with voting terminals along side the ATM machines.

anything that doesn't receive at least a 50% thumbs up (based on the entire voting population) doesn't pass.  boom done.  democracy inacted.

So Kim Kardashian will be president? Cool!

Georgiabelle's picture

Except that America is a constitutional republic, not a democracy. A constitutional republic has some similarities to democracy in that it uses democratic processes to elect representatives and pass new laws, etc.  The critical difference lies in the fact that a constitutional republic has a constitution that limits the powers of the government.  It also spells out how the government is structured, creating checks on its power and balancing power between the different branches.

I think the word which you're looking for is plutocracy.

Very good.  The acronym representing this is "CWAC" for Congress Writes All Checks.

If they were actually mad about obamacare, they wouldnt have passed it.

Too late for the money from the last funding.  They should not fund at next opportunity and sue to hold him up from further implementing the overreach till then.

hardmedicine's picture

It would be far easier if Obama would actually go for MARTIAL LAW....... maybe then we could get on with it.  As it goes now it just continues on in it's three ring circus atmosphere.  I'm so tired of people telling me the economy is getting better!!!

What about all the empty commercial real estate?  What about all the local businesses going bankrupt?  What about all the state Unemployment funds going bust?  State Unemployment down here in Texas is just turning people down for benefits by finding of fact instead of telling people the fund is broke.  This is partially why the unemployment numbers appear low.

We are seriously considering getting the hell out of this country.  Perhaps New Zealand will be a better place to ride out this storm.  This JOKE of a country and politics is NOT FUNNY ANY MORE!

hot sauce technician's picture

It's not just US leadership that has come to a dead end, it's governments worldwide. The big biz/big gov model that has become a staple of modern statesmanship is corrupt at its core. Its ammo is fiat, its weapon is debt, and its objective is subjugation of the herd towards the needs of those in power and their cronies. China,Russia, Israel, south Africa... you name the country and it seems as if this is the model du jour.

You can argue that it was invented in late 19th century England (universal suffrage, nationalism, compulsory education etc) and was refined in early 20th in the US (federal reserve, new deal), but that's for the academics. At this point the only way out is to "opt out" - live minimally within your means and associate only with those you're comfortable with. The internet is practically our only hope.

More was spent on that impeachment than the 9-11 investigation.

Are we counting the $2.012 trillion that were apparently maybe missing from the defence budget the day before, never to be seen or questioned again (given that the only records seem to have been in that exact section of the Pentagon plus in Blg 7 of the WTC).

Or are we letting that one slide by and only counting the $814 million that have been spent on the rebuilding of the site that no-one seems to admit contributing?

And while we're at that, are we wondering why there was dug an estimated 130 foot deep hole at the center of the foundations of the new World Trade Tower building - which was a big fookin hole one day and apparently filled with rebarred concrete the very next morning?

And we're going to examine the business dealings of, say, Dick Cheney's extended family (6 or more slightly dodgy ones) that all appear to have made a boatload of money from investments in various military-industrial endeavours in the few years following?

And I'm NOT a conspiracy theorist, I can just read the actual fucking facts and smell a rat. Haven't got a clue who was actually behind 911, but the balance of evidence points pretty heavily to it being an inside job.

Whenever I wonder about such things, I apply the 'who benefits?' query. And there's only a couple of answers to that. And only one had the power to tell the second (the Russian PVO Strany would have been harder to penetrate, THEN - I spent 8 years as an air-defence engineer) most effective air defence network in the world to go fuck off and play elsewhere, that day.

Hey hey,
I don't know about all that other stuff but you have to remember that rebuilding the World trade site pumped $814 million into the economy and created lots of jobs.
