Obama's Message To Republicans: "Stop Just Hatin’ All The Time"
Two weeks ago the head of the "most transparent administration ever" (perhaps to the NSA?), president Obama, told the common American to "not be cynical" and have hope. Today, speaking appropriately in an ornate theater in Kansas City, he had a message for republicans: "Stop being mad all the time. Stop. Stop. Stop just hatin’ all the time."
"They're not happy that I'm president, but that's OK. Come on!" he said, gesturing as if to welcome lawmakers to a table.
"I've only got a couple of years left, come on, let's get some work done. Then you can be mad at the next president," he said, chuckling.
This is taking place hours after it was reported that Obama, in a clear challenge to republicans, was preparing to announce a plan to deport fewer illegal immigrants, even as one of the biggest immigration scandals in recent years has emerged as the relentless influx of illegal immigrant of Central American children into southern states, something even Obama has acknowledged is becoming a problem.
So why the attempt to fire up a confrontation with the GOP?
Obama has been delivering variations of the fiery stump speech all summer as he tours the country trying to motivate Democrats - and wealthy donors - to get involved in November's congressional elections.
His aim is to energize Democratic voters ahead of the elections in hopes of stopping Republicans from gaining control of the Senate, which would, when joined with a Republican hold on the House, could make it extremely difficult for him to pursue his agenda in his last two years in office.
One could almost accuse Obama - the most unpopular president since World War II - of taunting republicans to commence the impeachment proceedings that some of his adversaries have floated in recent weeks, in order to get democrats to "rally around the flag" ahead of the crucial mid-term elections.
What one certainly can't accuse the president of, is taking responsibility. As AP reported earlier, in the endless feud over Obamacare, the latest scapegoat for the disastrous rollout of the website has been found.

And speaking of government, and thus capital misallocation and inefficiency, the GAO also reported that the administration has spent roughly $840 million on HealthCare.gov, including more than $150 million just in cost overruns for the version that failed so badly when it launched last year.
But as noted above, blame managers, not the president. From National Journal: "The Government Accountability Office says cost overruns went hand-in-hand with the management failures that led to the disastrous launch of HealthCare.gov and the 36 state insurance exchanges it serves.
GAO's report, prepared for a Thursday Energy and Commerce Committee hearing, details a long series of management, oversight and contracting problems that plagued the entire process, from risky contracting practices in 2011 through the botched launch last October.... the GAO says similar problems could arise again without structural changes in the way the government manages its contracts and spending.

If you want to have a real discussion about the extent to which an authoritarian deep state exists and how much power it has amassed, then I'd be up for that, although it's a tough question. But to say that Obama or Bush II are/were close to becoming dictators is inaccurate and simplistic; authoritarian power in the U.S. seems to be forming in a more complex and chronic way, in dynamics that span decades or more. A couple of presidential terms is too short of a time frame for this dynamic. This is not to preclude the possibility of a tipping point where slow change suddenly accelerates and we wake up one day with soldiers in the streets. That is certainly possible, but it won't be under Obama's control because authoritarian forces in America are not primarily under Obama's control and may have been around for much longer than Obama has been a politician.
There is no one right answer - that I know of at least - as to how much power the deep state has, but there are definitely some wrong answers about the nature of authoritarianism in the U.S. and one of those wrong answers is that Obama is close to becoming a dictator.
Some owners of large corporations, some Wall Street interests, some officials in intelligence agencies, and some parts of the military-industrial complex are all likely to be forming some type of deep state (or perhaps formed one long ago...) but this type of authoritarian control is very different from a single man becoming dictator.
Obama is not the next Trujillo or Pinochet...he's just one in a sequence of presidents whose power seems to be constrained and/or directed in some unclear ways by a non-elected deep state, as well as by the legal and constitutional constraints of sep. of powers and federalism, and also the legal and sometimes illegal lobbying and contributions by special interest groups ranging from unions, the Bar Association, NGO's, and college classmates to corporations and billionaires. Reality is a bit more more complicated than the meme of Obama-as-dictator.

Let's pause to "deconstruct" this imperative.
1) I characterize it as being in the imperative mood. It is given as a command. It implies a superior/inferior relationship - one pary has authority over the other. It is authorized to give commands and the other obeys. Barry has no authority to order the Republicans or any member of Congress around. he can order his staff around all he wants. Barry chose to use this "mood" to make the Republicans appear inferior. It is almost incumbent upon them to address this "rubuke" lest they appear submissive. Consensus builders and Nobel Laureats don't use the imperative voice.
2) Father would always say, "Dogs get mad, people get angry." Obama is not suggesting that Republicans are dogs, but maddness is an emotional state beyond anger. It suggests irrationality and extreme abandonment of self control. I am not suggesting madness in the sense of the insane asylum. Anger is not a good thing either. Suggesting that the Republicans are mad is an insult to them. Furthermore Obama's word choice is a bad display for the children. It shows a lack of poise and contemplation.
3) "hatin" Again this is very similar to the use of "mad." It is an insult to suggest that someone is full of hate. (Is Barry doin the hatin here?)
A few years ago, Barry stated that 'Putin was acting like a bored kid in the back of the class.' All I could do was think of the cost/benefit ratio in that statement. Who was he trying to impress? Does he buy anything by publically demeaning Putin? I don't think so. Would Putin simply be a stand up guy and let it roll off his back? Could he do so if he chose? Could Jesus, Budda or Gahndi? I wonder. In short barry made an expensive move with a C/B ratio approaching infinity.

The beauty of the fact that ZH is not enforcing its notice on racism in this thread is that the racists can come out of the woodwork and expose their hatred to the light.
While I have seen, in ZH comments, several examples of racism either mixed in with a general dislike for Obama, and sometimes the primary reason for that dislike in the past, the hatred and racism is quite clearly seen here.
And, no, all dislike of Obama is not racism. If one doesn't like Obamacare, or his fiscal policy, or some other substantive aspect of his leadership, then it's politics as normal. Substantive debate about policy is the real deal, and if people put forward reasonable arguments against a president's policies then they will be likely be taken more seriously, and their ideas will be more compelling.
But, hating him because he's black...well, that's just sad and ignorant, and unAmerican to boot, if you consider the ideals TJ put forward in the Declaration as American ideals.
When the thread is about Obama using the word "hatin'" in a speech, and several of the comments contain remarks that evince racist hatred, then doesn't this provide support for the hypothesis that some important segment of the American population just can't accept having a (half) black president?
Here are some choice examples from this thread. Again, I don't expect anyone to feel ashamed....I doubt anyone who wrote the following comments will. But, I will cite these comments as evidence in support of the belief that an important segment of the opposition to Obama is because he is (half) African-American.
And before we start, anyone who would say that the remarks below were in jest, and that I just don't have a sense of humor, you're wrong, I do. That's not the point, though. The point is that some people - including some ZH commentors - seem to hate Obama b/c he's black. This, of course, should not be surprising b/c we all know that racism still exists in some number of households in the US.
In the late 90's I was driving from North Carolina to West Virginia and I decided to stop at a bar in Southern WVA before sleeping for the night. I was wearing a t-shirt, shorts, and a pair of ratty old tevas, well-worn on the river and the street. A sign at the entrance said "Dress code required." I told the two guys that the door that I guess I probably didn't pass the dress code. One of them said, "Naw, we just have that to keep the niggers out." As I turned around to leave, I heard the other guy whisper to his indiscreet buddy something about how some people won't like comments like that so he had to be more careful.
It's hard to see racism in action...it tends to hide in the shadows of denial or be voiced in circles where everyone is in agreement, or at least unlikely to object.
Today, I see it clearly in the light in these comments. If you think I'm wrong about some of them, fine...the point is, for every openly racist comment, how many other people are there that are better at masking or denying illiberal racism?
If you like the enlightenment and the libertarian, rights-centered and free market theory that was part of that movement, it's hard to also justify racism, a reactionary type of thought...similar to belief in the benefits of a hereditary aristocracy, divine right monarchy, and a government that belonged to the ruler.
