Lets look back at Irish history.

and so i've given up hope altogether. i'm an american, after all...and if an issue cannot be resolved in five or so minutes, it's probable that the only solution is some variant of 'shock & awe'.
it is therefore best for janus to meditate on the nature of faith itself; to approach this issue philosophically, such that he may gain some insight into the thinking of the unhappy religionists at enmity over yonder.
i am pleased to report that i now understand religion in its totality. earlier today, janus did experiment with his faith, and the results were an unqualified success.
Christ once said something about loving them that hate you and repaying evil with good and such-like...verily, janus set about to test this inscrutable inversion of logic. and it was in that spirit of Christian charity that i called my mother.
now, i'm not going to say that it was easy or pleasant or that the phone-call failed to disturb me profoundly...moreover, Jesus had already set a clear and unambiguous example...you see, Christ had a fretful and possibly neurotic mother as well, at one point rebuking her thusly, "woman, what does your concern have to do with me?"...it was an argument over wine; and some say Jesus overreacted, but i side with my Savior...in fact, i think i'm gonna inscribe next year's mothers day card with that exact phrase.
anyway, it seems that my earnest endeavor to be gracious and loving no matter what...to swallow all pride and honor father & mother...pleased the Big Man upstairs. and twernt' long before janus was rewarded big-time for his active belief...no sooner had i hung up the phone, and a long, leggy model is peeling off her mini-skirt for my viewing pleasure. oh ye of little faith, i don't think The Lord works in ways that are in any respect mysterious...it all made perfect sense to me. additionally, i came upon an amazing discovery.
it's like this:
during my lil trip, i really missed boston...and i'm distressed over this. as a ramblin-man and vagabond-extrodinare, i get anxious at the thought of staying forever in one place. the open highway and the notion of home do not mix.

the following all went down at @8:45 PM, on cab-stand #7, smack-dab in the middle of a vine-like spool of streets, somewhere on the rim of boston's perimeter.
things were grim when first i settled into the stand. turning up the music did nothing to help. not even tobacco could cheer me. for you see, immediately adjacent to the stand is a 'modeling school', and as all who're familiar with these deplorable shams are aware, all and every of these poor things will never be paid for photos (unless they are of the unseemly sort).
watching that place will depress the most cheerful among our species. to begin with, i have a very low opinion of those who're positively lacking any sense of self-awareness. furthermore, just how many plus-sized modeling gigs do these girls think there are to go around? very few, and i'd be pleased to see far fewer.
nevertheless, there i sat, watching some nicaraguan blimp pose and primp in a fashion whose strategic objective was the covering of endless folds of flesh...all under the pulsing strobe of some second-rate outdoor photo-shoot (paid for (1500 dollars) by the 'model') canopy of white umbrellas.
if i were to guess, i would say that her ancestors were all employed in some very basic agricultural enterprise...probably involved endless squatting -- hence the ample haunches. i bet her great-great-grandaddy would sure be proud to see his ancestor posing so proudly. stunning!
finally she leaves...what's this? how now brown sow? why returneth thou? have you not haunted and tormented me enough?
another fifteen minutes of flirty bulge camoflagin for the cameras. i could almost hear the entire nicaraguan nation swoon.

it was all very stirring, satisfactory and stimulating. precisely what you'd expect from a life devoted to faith. feeling the spirit strong in me, i said that i would look her up and that i'd call when her boyfriend next went out of town. he laughed as if i was joking. i wasn't joking...not contacting katie would be near blasphemy. it's the Golden Age or bust for janus; for it is written, "in the Kingdom of Heaven there will be no marrying nor giving in marriage." so you're all probably now wondering what discovery i made during my lil pilgrimage...well, i realized that i've been going about this all wrong. it occurred to me that, if one is to effectively win over the masses, there may be tactics more productive than ceaseless and consistent cruelty (but it's some knee-slappin cruelty, i think most will confess). people don't take it as they should when you insult them and hold up the awful and tormenting mirror...they actually prefer to be told what they want to hear (the more inane and idiotic, the better).
and so i've now developed a flawless and indefatigable system for taking over the world and declaring myself emperor for life. i'm just gonna promise all the best stuff to everyone.

Perhaps if the USA and their friends had tried to invest in Gaza and the Palestinian camps, and create employment for people and the prospect of a better life, then each side in this assymmetric war wouldn't have had reason to foment more violence with every year.

I believe there was a very short window during which this invest in Gaza meme almost took off. Prosperity would lead to peace.

I don't purport to be an expert on this subject. This is what currently works for me.
For many years I wallowed in the confusion caused by the prevalent assumption that to be a good Jew one must support everything the Israeli State does without question. This put me in an uncomfortable quandry since there are Jews in my family, I have lived and worked around Jews all my life and I have close friends in Israel...[walking on eggshells everytime there is a flare up in the M.E.]
As we all know, if you are not a Jew, you risk the accusation of anti-semite when leveling criticism at Israel. Much like you are accused of racism when critical of Obozo.
The Jewish religion contemplates a return to the "promised land" upon the coming of the Messiah. Modern day Zionism, and there are many definitions of Zionism thrown about, contemplates a much more aggressive/militaristic scenario under the banner of Judaism (if you are not a Zionist you are not a good Jew) and there are many scholarly religious Jews who adamantly disagree with this.
In conclusion, the distinction between Zionism and Judaism, for me, is a way to acknowledge that all Jews are not automatic supporters of the actions taken and condoned by the State of Israel and its indigenous right wing.
In my view, fanatical Zionism tarnishes followers of the Jewish faith much like radical Islam tarnishes followers of the Muslim faith.
How do you reconcile that with the results of the poll from Times of Israel showing 97 % of Israeli Jews support the current actions in Gaza and 89% say the actions not enough force is being used?
I used to be of the opinion that the actions of the state of Israel were product of a small group or elite. However thsi poll came as a shock to me, for it seems the populatin is on-board with the actions of the regime.
So the commenter above says that Palestinians condemn themselves by voting for Hamas, he presents the standard American double-standards and ignore that majority of Israeli Jews voted for Netanyahu, and that Hamas is resitance group that did not even exist before Israel started the land grab.
They ignore the nearly 80 years of Israeli terror and seem to argue that Israel has a reason to kill every Palestinian because they started firing rockets ex-nihilo. Again ignoring the fact that before zionism became influent in the British and US Empires, arabs and jews coexisted peacefuly in Palestine.

Miko Peled was born in Jersusalem into a famous and influential Israeli Zionist family. His father was a famous General in the Israeli Army, of which Miko also served his time. When Miko's niece was killed by Palestinian suicide bombers, you may have expected the family to put Palestinians at fault, but surprisingly they blamed the state of Israel, and their violent torturing and persecution for driving people to such sadness that they would take their own lives.
