American Ebola Patients On Way To Atlanta Hospital, Customs On Heightened Alert For "Ill" Passengers

Tyler Durden's picture

Two American healthcare workers, described as in 'grave condition and worsening' are being infected by the Ebola virus are on their way to Atlanta's Emory University Hospital for treatment. As WSBTV reports, the hospital has a separate isolation unit set up in partnership with the CDC to treat serious infectious diseases. CDC officials have called this "the biggest and most complex Ebola outbreak in history." Sentiment across social media appears rather biased towards the negative on bringing the patients back. As we warned last night, there are significant implications should Ebola come to America. WE also note that while the CDC is not screening airline passengers, customs and border agents are on heightened alert for 'people with flu-like symptoms."

As WBSTV reports,

The hospital has a special isolation unit set up in collaboration with the Atlanta-based Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to treat patients with serious infectious diseases.

At least one of the two will be taken to a hospital at Emory University, near the headquarters of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, according to CNN.

A spokeswoman told Channel 2 Action News she did not know when the patients would arrive, but confirmed the patients are from west Africa. The Associated Press reported the patient is an American aid worker.

"It is physically separate from other patient areas and has unique equipment and infrastructure that provide an extraordinarily high level of clinical isolation," a spokesman said in a release.

Sources told CNN the two Americans being evacuated are Dr. Kent Brantly and Nancy Writebol. Both are described as being in grave condition but are stable after their health worsened overnight.  Both healthcare workers have been in Liberia with the faith-based charity Samaritan's Purse.

The hospital said doctors, nurses and staff are trained in procedures to handle this type of patient.

The hospital is only one of four such facilities in the country.

...

“This is the biggest and most complex Ebola outbreak in history. Far too many lives have been lost already,” said CDC Director Tom Frieden, M.D., M.P.H. “It will take many months, and it won’t be easy, but Ebola can be stopped. We know what needs to be done. CDC is surging our response, sending 50 additional disease control experts to the region in the next 30 days.”

Protection...

Airline officials were told to notify the CDC before ill passengers board a plane. The CDC will then investigate ill passengers and quarantine them if necessary.

Channel 2's Dave Huddleston spoke with officials at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport who said customs and border protection agents are on heightened alert to watch for people with flu like symptoms.

At this time, the CDC will not screen passengers traveling from the affected countries, but will provide guidance to airlines for managing ill passengers and crew for disinfecting the aircraft.

Working in Nigeria, we were made aware of this news:

http://www.nairaland.com/1836518/helper-late-liberian-shows-ebola

http://naijamusicmovement.blogspot.co.uk/2014/07/another-suspected-case-of-ebola-in.html

And yet the Government here is claiming "NO NEW CASE":

The Lagos state government says no new case of Ebola virus has been discovered in the state or in any part of the country.

According to the Special Adviser to the Lagos state Governor on Public Health, Dr (Mrs) Yewande Adeshina, all the 59 people who had direct or indirect contact with late Liberian Patrick Sawyer who died last Friday in Lagos from the virus, have been traced, tested and found to be hale and hearty and have not exhibited any unusual body temperature or any other symptoms of the dreaded virus. Continue..
In a related development, the state Commissioner for Information, Lateef Ibirogba advised residents to be wary of the activities of fraudsters who are making spurious claims about their ability to provide cure for the Ebola Virus, urging them to always contact health providers to report unusual feelings noticed as only medical solutions are known to be appropriate for the disease. He warned those making false claims of being able to cure the disease to desist from it or would be made to face the full wrath of the law once they are caught.
He reminded residents of the State to make use of the emergency phone numbers- 08023169485, 08033086660, 08033065303, 08055281442 and 08055329229 provided to contact health authorities in case anyone with observed symptoms of the Ebola disease is noticed.

Atthelake asked if you were their family, what would you want? Of course it is only human nature for people to want to see their loved ones given every opportunity to survive. My question is what would they want? One cannot venture into the hot zne without the idea that it is possible they may not return.  If it were me I would rather die in country than be the patient or the corpse that brought the epidemic home. I would guess this is more about studying the illness in a more controlled environment than about saving lives. Also at least one of them have taken an expiramental serum, so no doubt they are hot to study what exactly that does.

Interesting that I saw a graphic last night that there had been at least one US case of hemorrhagic fever caused by Ebola. If that is true then maybe this will not be the first time Ebola was intrduced to the US.

Either way, I'm gonna go ahead and nominate this for Worst Idea Ever. The follow up question becomes, if they were TRYING to cause a US outbreak, what would they do differently?

the big question is can this strain of Ebola, in fact, be spread through the air?

it appears there is at least some evidence that ebola can spread through more ways than just direct contact with body fluids...

A study conducted in 2012 showed that Ebola was able to travel between pigs and monkeys that were in separate cages and were never placed in direct contact.

Though the method of transmission in the study was not officially determined, one of the scientists involved, Dr. Gary Kobinger, from the National Microbiology Laboratory at the Public Health Agency of Canada, told BBC News that he believed that the infection was spread through large droplets that were suspended in the air.

"What we suspect is happening is large droplets; they can stay in the air, but not long; they don't go far," he explained. "But they can be absorbed in the airway, and this is how the infection starts, and this is what we think, because we saw a lot of evidence in the lungs of the non-human primates that the virus got in that way."

the implications of this study are when coupled with the current situation in west Africa deserve close attention. the fact that this outbreak is spreading at an unprecedented rate in ways and in areas not before seen suggests that this old dog may have learned some new tricks, even the WHO in a recently released statement warned of the potentially dire consequences...

"Excellencies, honourable ministers, members of the press, ladies and gentlemen,

West Africa is facing its first outbreak of Ebola virus disease. This is an unprecedented outbreak accompanied by unprecedented challenges. And these challenges are extraordinary.

West Africa’s outbreak is caused by the most lethal strain in the family of Ebola viruses.

The outbreak is by far the largest ever in the nearly four-decade history of this disease. It is the largest in terms of numbers of cases and deaths, with 1,323 cases and 729 deaths reported to date in four countries.

It is the largest in terms of geographical areas already affected and others at immediate risk of further spread.

It is taking place in areas with fluid population movements over porous borders, and it has demonstrated its ability to spread via air travel, contrary to what has been seen in past outbreaks. Cases are occurring in rural areas which are difficult to access, but also in densely populated capital cities.

This meeting must mark a turning point in the outbreak response. The presence here of four heads of state is clear evidence of the high-level of political concern and commitment.

Let me give you some frank assessments of what we face. And by “we”, I mean your countries and your neighbours, WHO and its partners in outbreak response, including civil society organizations, and the international community, including countries on other continents that can give you the support you so clearly need.

First, this outbreak is moving faster than our efforts to control it. If the situation continues to deteriorate, the consequences can be catastrophic in terms of lost lives but also severe socioeconomic disruption and a high risk of spread to other countries. As I said before, this meeting must mark a turning point in the outbreak response.

In addition, the outbreak is affecting a large number of doctors, nurses, and other health care workers, one of the most essential resources for containing an outbreak. To date, more than 60 health care workers have lost their lives in helping others. Some international staff are infected. These tragic infections and deaths significantly erode response capacity.

Second, the situation in West Africa is of international concern and must receive urgent priority for decisive action at national and international levels. Experiences in Africa over nearly four decades tell us clearly that, when well managed, an Ebola outbreak can be stopped.

This is not an airborne virus. Transmission requires close contact with the bodily fluids of an infected person, also after death. Apart from this specific situation, the general public is not at high risk of infection by the Ebola virus.

At the same time, it would be extremely unwise for national authorities and the international community to allow an Ebola virus to circulate widely and over a long period of time in human populations.

Constant mutation and adaptation are the survival mechanisms of viruses and other microbes. We must not give this virus opportunities to deliver more surprises."

to me this statement and others like it from the CDC show a few important things that we all need to pay very close attention to...

one, this outbreak has caught them by surprise because of it rapid spread and ability to move more quickly through populations than outbreaks past, it even for the first time in history, found it's way into a major airport so god only knows where it went from their, how many other major transport hubs infected people have visited and where they went from there.

second there are not really sure of anything in regards to transmission at this point, the constant repeating and reinforcement of "it can only be spread through direct contact" is to be expected as if even the speculation that it could spread through the air by any health agency would cause a panic.

at this point all we can do is keep a very close eye on developments and keep reading between the lines of official statements and press reports.

but it is not wise to simply brush this aside, we really do have to pay very close attention.

thanks to the Tyler's and ZH for getting on this weeks before the MSM did.

based on the doctors getting it and the studies you cite and how fast ebola mutates - it's almost for sure airborne, and I think it possible its communicability from asymptomatic infecteds is widening...  not a doctor or scientist in that/related field though so pure paranoid conjecture on my part.

One thing to bear in mind though - Africans are extremely genetically diverse relative to all the rest of us for reasons which should be obvious - people from neighboring tribes in southern africa might be less closely related than Mizrahi Jews to Mongolians - literally.

It's a great place for a virus that mutates easily to mutate...

Completely agree with Donald Trump this time round. I don t think to much of him. But EBOLA is too deadly to fool around with. If it gets out in the US it means the whole world will get it. In means 90% of the world will die. It is too big a chance to take. Better gamble in Los Vagas than with this. What should be done to contin this desease all flights out of all of West Africa should be canceled. And everyone comeing from other African countries should be quarentined for 21 days.

Is it Ebola or is it psychological warfare?

by Jon Rappoport

July 31, 2014

www.nomorefakenews.com

Now that the world has been put on notice about Ebola, it’s time to try facts instead of scare tactics.

The World Health Organization (WHO) is the primary reporting agency on case numbers and deaths. Taking their stats with a few grains of salt, but recognizing that mainstream accounts come from WHO, here is their July 25 update, “Ebola Virus Disease, West Africa”:

1201 total cases. 672 deaths. These numbers cover Guinea, Sierra Leone, and Liberia—the Ebola focus areas.

Looking a little deeper, we see that WHO divides each number into categories: “confirmed,” “probable,” and “suspected.”

Diagnostic methods for IDing Ebola in those 3 countries are uncertain. Therefore, we should only consider the category labeled “confirmed,” and even then we should have doubts.

So let’s look at the total for confirmed Ebola case numbers in those countries.

It’s 814.

Confirmed number of deaths? 456.

Now consider another WHO report. This one is titled: “Influenza (Seasonal) World Health Organization,” dated April 2009.

It’s the WHO fact sheet on regular seasonal flu, the kind that is said to infect people globally, year after year, like clockwork.

Ready?

Annual number of severe cases: 3-5 million.

Annual number of deaths: between 250,000 and 500,000.

Remember, that’s every year—not a one-time shot.

When it comes to seasonal regular flu, the World Health Organization issues no scare reports, no dire warnings, and the press mentions nothing. Zero.

However, with 814 confirmed cases and 456 deaths from Ebola, the whole world is put on notice.

We hear about possible travel restrictions. In the US, portable disease-diagnosing machines have been passed out out to many local communities. There are murmurs aboutdetaining people who may have come in contact with somebody who may have Ebola.

Something is very wrong here. Something is upside down.

If you set aside the images and fear-mongering of the press, you begin to see this is a propaganda operation, there is a selective process at work—what disease to promote, what disease to ignore.

Imagine what would happen if WHO released a statement in which it substituted “Ebola” for “regular seasonal flu”:

“There are 3 to five million cases of Ebola worldwide. Between 250,000 and 500,000 people are dead.”

The world would go crazy.

But again, there ARE 3 to 5 million cases, every year, of regular seasonal flu, and according to WHO, between 250,000 and 500,000 people die from it.

And the world does nothing.

People would respond, “Oh, but you see, Ebola is different. People hemorrhage. They bleed out and die. It’s horrible.”

Now we’re talking about the process of dying, as if that really matters.

And, with flu, when people die, they often drown in their own mucus. Is that vivid enough to rank alongside Ebola?

Ebola is a propaganda operation.

Choices are being made: what to emphasize, what to ignore, what to use in order to invoke fear.

Producing fear, one way or another, is a standard element in exerting top-down control over the population.

When people are afraid, they’re compliant, they’re obedient to authority.

And that’s the agenda.

Rappoport often seems pretty 'out there' to me (just personal opinion, I know he has a good following), but I think this is a pretty objective view, regardless of who said it.  Thanks for posting this, timely and rational.  Also interesting that Ebola and Flu have similar transmission paths (i.e, bodily fluids).

That was well said and worthy of consideration.

People get confused and hung-up about whether events (like this virus, Ebola) are real or if they are "natural" or "manufactured"?  The real issue comes from what you point out.

We are meant to stop questioning and rally around the leader.  Events are meant to create "compliance".  Public scares work EVERY DAMN TIME!

The question is:  What are we supposed to be compliant to?

Personally, I say "follow the money".  That is where you find the answers.

Its because the Flu only typically kills people with already compromised immune systems, or the very young and very old.  And it's usually because of a complication such as pneumonia.

Ebola on the other hand has a 50% mortality rate among completely healthy adults with strong immune systems.   That rate climbs as high as 90% once you include the young, old, and those with weakened immune systems.

While the flu may kill 250k worldwide per year, your number of 3-5 million contracting the flu is way to low.  Most peole w/ flu don't even go to the Dr.   By comaprison, flu and pneumonia combined have a mortality rate in the 6-8% range.

If 5 million people were to contract this strain of Ebola, approx. 4 million of them would die.  Almost all young, old and immune compromised would die.  at least 50% of healthy adults would die.

What makes it particularly dangerous is having a 9-21 incubation period.  You can be walking around for 1 to 3 weeks giving it to other people before you even know you have it.

Another thing that makes it incredibly more dangerous than the flu, is that there is no vaccine or cure.  Once you have it, you are likely going to die.

The only thing that is even remotely as dangerous as this strain of Ebola is Hantavirus Pulmanory Syndrom.

You think the Obama Administration wants to destroy America? Well, you just got your answer -- YES!

Opening up the southern border to communicable diseases and Islamic Jihadist wasn't quite doing it. So now they take the unprecedented decision to bring Ebola, the world's most deadly communicable disease, to the United States and the North American Continent. For the purpose of "potentially" saving two people!

But we are told not be worried. The United States Public Health Service, Centers for Disease Control (CDC) will be there to ensure our safety. Never mind the just in the last months, the CDC:

1. Mishandled live anthrax;

2. Misplaced live smallpox (found in a closet);

3. Mislabeled influenza virus that had been cross-contaminated with the highly deadly H5NI strain of bird flu.

Words escape me to describe the pandemic potential this moronic and inept decision by the Obama Administration can bring to America. And who stands between a catastrophic pandemic and us? The CDC.

If this doesn't bring America to its senses (remove Obama), than maybe it is time that the surplus population is removed.

What if this Ebola is just another distraction.  What if the world oligarchs are trying to come up with new and exciting ways to keep our attention from what it happening to our collective personal wealth?

What if the oligarchs in Russia and the USA and Europe colluded to create the "Ukraine Crisis" and then the Gaza crisis?

Is it just random chance that the street level opposition to the passage of the TPP (Transpacific partnership) will now find it more difficult to rally supporter interest due to these events?

Megalomaniac psychopaths are capable of doing anything, including exploiting this outbreak or the actions of 18 bearded, hateful monkey cave dwellers. If you think this is crazy, recall that the POTUS and the CIA cooked up wild lies to get us into attacking Iraq.

The easiest way to establish Martial Law and confiscation of all private property and forced resettlement of a population would be a biological threat.

I would propose the current Regime has decided numerous diseases from the Open Border and importation of Ebola would be the most effective way of seizing control of Absolute Power and the seizure of every private enterprise in America.

There is now a very short window of time to remove the current Regime by lawful authority.

It is quite possible that within a few months, maybe two, an Enabling Act will be issued.

I don't have any problem with them bringing back 2 people known to have the virus for treatment.

I have a problem with not controlling the borders, especially the one with Mexico, and those who defend this completely irresponsible dereliction of government duty by hiding behind red herrings like "anti-immigrant" and "racism" and "hate".

How about, whatever your views on mass immigration per se, we at least know who's entering the country?

Maybe if conservatives and moderates framed it in terms of rape - the # of rapist entering illegally, liberal women would start to get on board. It has to apply directly to them to stop them from the enjoyment they get in calling other people "racist."

The thing is, certainly 95%+ are entering with the intent to work hard and have a better life.  Still doesn't mean their desire to be somewhere translates to a "right" or one that overcomes our "right" to know who and what is entering the country.

In July the CDC in Atlanta had "to crack down at the nations highest level bio security labs because of lost live smallpox vials, accidental shipment of a highly pathogenic bird flu and an anthrax scare that exposed more than 80 CDC scientists to live anthrax. Taken together the breaches raise serious and troubling questions about the nations culture of laboratory safety. Fundamentally, what they revealed was totally unacceptable behavior."

You had better have a big problem with these patients being transported here. There is no reason why the military can't set up specialized treatment centers in Africa, containing the virus to one continent. If they can't do that, the God help us all if this Ebola breaks out here.

Even if this Ebola outbreak remains relatively contained - i.e., if it doesn't get much worse than the present state of emergency (let us pray) - it still has the potential to seriously impact the global economy by shutting down air travel, disrupting trade, and causing workes to stay home rather than go out and risk getting infected. It reveals the fragility and artificiality of the whole system, and it is only one of many such things that can do so. The baselessness of most of what we call normal life never ceases to frustrate me and I would be glad to see it destroyed if it weren't for the innocent who would inevitably suffer in the process.

I can't wait for Blacks to watch their family members dropping dead, as the White African-American president goes on playing golf, taking vacations, making speeches to brain-dead celebrities, makes plans to go totally White by retiring to a White-oligarch gated community where he will be the only person with dark skin, and ends up drunk every night (as he does now) at his endless dinner parties, aka drunken gab fests.

I wonder how they will react when they see this . . . will they keep being Black Racists and tell themselves it's the fault of White people, and not Obama, or will they finally stop lying to themselves and accept the reality that Obama just used them, and now that he doesn't need them to get elected, he is just going to let them die while the illegals get the meds and the housing?

My bet in the office pool is that the so-called leaders who are Black - Jackson, Holder, Sharpton, Wright, Winfrey, et. al - are now so White in their lifestyle that the ordinary Black will continue to buy the lie about Obama, and watch their friends and family end up in the morgue, all the while telling themselves it's all because of Whites that they are dying.

What's your bet?

Health Department Conducts the Largest No-Notice Emergency Response Exercise in New York City History

The exercise is the most comprehensive, no-notice test of the Health Department’s ability to respond to large-scale public health emergencies

Today, the Health Department is conducting the largest no-notice emergency response exercise in New York City history that will test our ability to respond to the release of a biological agent. Called RAMPEx, which stands for Rapid Activation for Mass Prophylaxis Exercise, the exercise involves notifying and deploying over 1,500 staff from more than a dozen City agencies and setting up 30 temporary locations that would be used to rapidly dispense life-saving medication in the event of an emergency. The majority of participants in today’s exercise were given no notice, meaning most participants were not informed of the day or time of the exercise, in order to better test and simulate a real emergency and response.

Please - the polls they cited are absurd....  And by the way, the American media is so absolutely pro-Israel, and let's be blunt - disproportionately Jewish owned and managed and staffed, Americans get nothing like the truth.

They've been told over and over Iran is working on nukes by Netanyahu and his 5th column allies - somehow unaware the IAEA and American intelligence agencies all said they aren't.  But Israel is.

They've been told the former Iranian prez said Iran would "wipe Israel off the map" - a deliberate mistranslation which has been parotted so often it has become Goebells-truth.

If Americans had anything like an objective understaning of Netanyahu, Likud, Zionism, and the occupation, they'd be in the streets demanding aid to Israel be stopped and that AIPAC be made to register as the agent of a foreign power.

They'd also wonder about the effects of having a 2 party system to which reliable, highly esteemed, Jewish magazines have indicated Jews comprise half, or much more of private donations - to each.

Other than never going outside, do you have any idea what the average American can do to protect him/herself? Thank you and I think something evil has, already, come this way and WE elected both parties.

STOCK UP.

The WHO is saying that it is spreading too fast.

The Ebola outbreak in West Africa is spreading faster than efforts to control it, World Health Organization (WHO) head Margaret Chan has said.

She told a summit of regional leaders that failure to contain Ebola could be "catastrophic" in terms of lives lost.

But she said the virus, which has claimed 729 lives in four West African countries since February, could be stopped if well managed.

The smoking gun in all of this is the notice that Bio-War detection kits were shipped to all 50 states NG units in April, 2014.

These test kits contain Ebola test capabilities.

Obamabola is planned, primed, and now executed.

Your "government" has decided most of you should now be murdered.

Looks like those "FEMA coffins" were just as advertised.

didn't Atlanta have a FEMA/DHS "drill" back on 25 June this year?

props in place, perhaps.

On 22 July, Michael Farrell resigned as head of the CDC’s Bioterror Rapid Response and Advanced Technology Laboratory in Atlanta, and other heads may roll, too.

OK folks, I haven't done a "Big One" in a while. But I finished up something I have been working on for two months.

I have summarized all the data on Global "Warming" using real temperature data from all over the world, for every month, from 1880 until 2013.

Seriously. And charted them and ran statistics on them. It was kind of a pain. But I thought it important, and the only way to get through the rhetoric on both sides was to get real DATA.

Bottom line….there is no Global Warming. We have been level for 17 years. Check it out. If you want the spreadsheet now, email me, I will later add it as a download in Excel.

Nukepro got your back with real information, not the disinformation of the MSM

If Obamacare doesn't kill you, Ebola damn sure will.
Just remember, this is all possible thanks to the people we pay to represent us.

God Help Us because we are all subjected to "death by democrat" aka Democide. The republicans can take credit for being accessories to all their crimes.

When will the American people say enough is enough? We are running out of time.
