WHO Warns Ebola Outbreak Out Of Control, "High Risk Of Spread To Other Countries"

Tyler Durden's picture

Things just went to 11 on the Spinal-Tap amplifier of massive infectious disease outbreaks. As AP reports, the Ebola outbreak that has killed more than 700 people in West Africa is moving faster than the efforts to control the disease, the head of the World Health Organization warned. Dr. Margaret Chan pulled no punches in her direct statement, "If the situation continues to deteriorate, the consequences can be catastrophic in terms of lost lives but also severe socio-economic disruption and a high risk of spread to other countries." Time to panic?

As AP reports,

Dr. Margaret Chan, director-general of the World Health Organization, said the meeting in Conakry "must be a turning point" in the battle against Ebola, which is now sickening people in three African capitals for the first time in history.

...

At least 729 people in four countries — Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia and Nigeria — have died since cases first emerged back in March. Two American health workers in Liberia have been infected, and an American man of Liberian descent died in Nigeria from the disease, health authorities there say.

While health officials say the virus is transmitted only through direct contact with bodily fluids, many sick patients have refused to go to isolation centers and have infected family members and other caregivers.

The fatality rate has been about 60 percent, and the scenes of patients bleeding from the eyes, mouth and ears has led many relatives to keep their sick family members at home instead.

...

"Constant mutation and adaptation are the survival mechanisms of viruses and other microbes," she said. "We must not give this virus opportunities to deliver more surprises."

...

"I believe we're only seeing a small portion of the cases out there ... The virus is getting to large, dense, city areas. We're now getting samples (to test) from all over," he said Friday.

...

Meanwhile, other countries are taking precautions to prevent the spread of Ebola.

*  *  *
Interestingly, worries are spreading quickly as one Commonwealth Games competitor found:

a cyclist from Sierra Leone competed in the Commonwealth Games after being tested for Ebola. Moses Sesay, 32, was admitted to a Glasgow hospital last week after feeling unwell, and doctors tested him for various conditions including Ebola. Sesay was passed fit, and released from hospital in time to compete in the individual time trial on Thursday.

Yahoo has kindly provided this 'panic sheet' for where the nearest CDC quarantine stations are in the US...

From  the live news conference at Emory:

Both patients now coming to Emory

Emory accepted the patients at the behest of Samaritan's Purse (Franklin Graham) and the air ambulance company that owns the Gulfstream that is transporting them. (Can't remember the company's name). CDC did not request this. Emory officials professed "not to know" what regulatory agencies approved the air ambulance flight.

That's not really an answer, and other than the obvious issues with what they wrote, there are some more subtle issues.

Some gallows ebola humor that US expats will understand:

The reason so many of the healthcare workers are getting infected is because MSF (EU7/French and the front line responders in Africa) are looking at USAMRIID (American) protocols and thinking that Eau de Javel/Javelwasser is the same thing as Bleach. As any American expat will tell you -- Clorox or even it's cheap Wallyworld Chicom Knockoff is 2-4X as concentrated as the crap 2.5% solution you buy in the EUSSR. Bleach and Eau de Javel are NOT comparable products.

The answers (if there are such things) all lie with-in, nto with-out.

Inner strength, higher vibrations, clean insides...these are the things to be going for at this time....not ammo and masks so much, though that too, but as a last resort.

I'd suggest a temporary vegetarian diet all around (most meats weaken the immune system).

Herd, I heard that the down side of introducing what comes to the body thourgh meat might out-weigh everything.

Maybe I'm coming more from a philosophical perspective. But dietary habits and myths are as strong or stronger than religious ones (or deeply intertwined with them anyways), so it's really to each his own.

Stay healthy and strong, key. Thanks for the Brazil nut tip.

Since you brought it up, I have been trying to determine what movie script this event is shadowing.

Its a cross of Contagion, Outbreak, and Twelve Monkeys.

Possibly even remnants of The Stand. Look for communications black-holes from certain areas. If phone, internet, and satellites are lost to any specific area.....would be a likely indicator that, its goin' down.

A more realistic, today style approach, would not let a good crisis go to waste and you will start seeing the promos for the vaccine on every news outlet 24/7. Along with instructions to shelter in place, martial law tidbits, and instructions on how to turn in your firearms to the local Gestapo.

You really should have done your homework right now, but in case you didn't:

  • Do proper exercise; something that revitalizes the body, not that exhausts it.
  • Find out how to meditate. Sitting, walking, gardening or fishing, it doesn't matter - but learn to find inner peace. Aside from being the end of life itself, integrity and inner alignment are the foundation of a proper immune system.
  • Eliminate sources of toxins. Those can be intellectual (fearmongering), emotional (toxic relationships) and physical - in hygiene products, fluoridated/chlorinated water, hormones outgassing from plastics, etc
  • DIET: Eliminate processed foods, all refined sugars, all non-fermented soy products, all chemical-process oils (canola, rapeseed, sunflower, safflower, etc). Cold-press oils are fine (coconut and cacao are great, olive is so-so) and animal fats (from organic grass-fed) are the best: butter, tallow, lard, duck fat. Make bone broth, use unrefined salt (not pure-white, iodized). Preferably avoid carbs as filler calories (grains & legumes, starchy root vegetables) as carbs are the most inflamatory macro-nutrient in an otherwise healthy diet. Reasonable protein, fat for calories and high nutrient-to-calorie dark leafy greens for filler; be paleo/ketogenic for maximum viral/bacterial resistance.
  • Stock up on vitamin C; incredible by itself but better if you learn how to DIY-liposomal.
  • Hopefully you already have some four-nines silver. Learn how to make colloidal silver out of it or buy the pre-assembled electronics online.
  • Have some other natural means of treatment. Homeopathic works but is complex to learn and apply. Better go with essential oils to start with. Get some Thieves' essential oil blend for the most powerful anti-viral/anti-bacterial/immune-system boosting medicine I know. Young Living products usually come highly recommended.
  • Make peace with Life - because anyway, on a long enough timeline, the survival rate for everyone drops to zero.

P.S.: Pro-tip : If they come out with an ebola vaccine, run like hell. Seriously.

Also, try using a Neti pot. Many people suffer from low grade sinus infections, and use of a NP will knock them out quickly. They also enhance the natural effects of cilia.

Grow some basil and it's super easy to grow [if I can do it, anyone can!]:

In addition, basil has been shown to provide protection against unwanted bacterial growth. These anti-bacterial properties of basil are not associated with its unique flavonoids, but instead with its volatile oils, which contain estragole, linalool, cineole, eugenol, sabinene, myrcene, and limonene. Lab studies show the effectiveness of basil in restricting growth of numerous bacteria, including : Listeria monocytogenes, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli O:157:H7,Yersinia enterocolitica, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

Essential oil of basil, obtained from its leaves, has demonstrated the ability to inhibit several species of pathogenic bacteria that have become resistant to commonly used antibiotic drugs. In a study published in the July 2003 issue of the Journal of Microbiology Methods, essential oil of basil was even found to inhibit strains of bacteria from the genera Staphylococcus, Enterococcus andPseudomonas, all of which are not only widespread, but now pose serious treatment difficulties because they have developed a high level of resistance to treatment with antibiotic drugs.(September 8, 2003)

Ebola is a virus.  A VIRUS - and you don't get it.

Anti-bacterials cannot and do not affect a virus.  Not even basil oil.

Ebola and AIDS share many characteristics and are some of the oldest forms of life on the planet.  AIDS kills slowly and Ebola kills quickly - major difference.

No meds, no cure, no vaccine, and no hope for the majority of those infected - that is the sad reality.

And there is NO bioengineering involved - natural mutations within the infected population will certainly occur and may involve a droplet means of transmission similar to influenza - then the planetary population of primates will crash.

I'm sure this thread is stale by now but...

Have you really never heard of antivirals?  They help your body fend off viruses via several mechanisms such as through inhibition of virus DNA and RNA polymerase, through inhibition of retrovirus reverse transcriptase, by binding to the haemagglutinin of various viruses and so preventing the virus from entering host cells, and various other ways.
There are many herbs and vegetables that contain them.

I don't know how to feel about this Ebola deal.

For years I watch documentaries dedicated to the suffering in this exact part of Africa.   Suffering for a lot of reasons, but near the top of the list is just too many people.

Now....nature's cruel culling machine drags the net through town and does what nature does.   I'm not sure if I should be cheering on the culling machine in sympathy for the 99.99% of the survivors who continue to struggle daily, or curse the machine in sympathy for those who suffer with the illness?

Am I the only one struggling with this?

You raise a good point. If West Africans have been being preyed upon by various fever viruses since the Dawn of Mankind, and current residences are the survivors of generations of Ebola-type diseases, then the spread of this kind of disease should be slower there than other parts of the world. And if the ancestors left Africa to get away from everything there trying to kill them, then everyone else in the world should be easy prey for this virus since they missed out on generations of fights.

So would a 60% mortality rate in West Africa mean a 90% mortality in a green-field America or Asia?

Thread is likely stale by now, but for what its worth,

I felt just like you, until I started reading a series of articles in the local newspaper about a guy from the Congo who was eventually quarantined by the sheriff and forced to wear a gps anklet. He was a known carrier of TB, and was refusing to get treatment, take medicine, or restrict his movement to his apartment. The best part was figuring out that him and his girlfriend rented the apartment right NEXT to mine.

A little searching will reveal this is not an isolated incident. and several individuals from Africa have undergone mandatory quarantine in relation to TB.

This is the same little bastard that denied finding my cell phone. After losing it I checked the call log online. Guess what country was called until the airtime was drained? If you answered the Congo, you would be correct.

Is it a struggle? Absolutely!

But when it comes down to them or you, its not much of a choice.

It's where they send you when they aren't sure whether or not you have it.  A containment or isolation centre is where they send you when you have it or they want you to have it.

That much Vitamin C will actually hurt you.  As Kaiser said, you will shit your guts out.

The problem is most of your immune system and your absorption of micronutrients that help you weather attack from pathogens depends on the beneficial microbes that reside in your gut, or if you take too much C, your toilet.

As for silver, I use it, but have not found it to be helpful against viruses, only bacteria, and mostly in topical usage.  Still take it orally and have a throat pump and nasal pumps with it though.  It can help with secondary bacterial infections.

This guy evidentally does not understand the concept of efficacy.   You're odds of dying if you contract ebola are 6 in 10.   Odds of contracting Flu are 1-8, and then dying from it, 1 in 345k.

Slight difference in amount of paranoia that's merited with ebola.

I was in Windhoek, Namibia (consult an atlas or GoogleMaps) a couple years back, and happened to stay close to the newly opened Chinese Embassy.  Now bare in mind Namibia is really only important because of its proximity to Angola and South Africa, two economic 'powerhouses' as far as Africa goes. It exports diamonds, and other 'valuable' rocks, like tungsten.

Any way, you should have seen the satellite dish on this (newly built) Embassy.  Gigantic!

Actually, knuks, I tried this a few years ago and it worked: I put on a serious-looking mask you get at Home Depot, after I was seated, and no one was phased.

Might have been because my body language did not send out danger signals, or because I didn't "look" like a potential baddy (and people do profile subconsciously).  Anyway, after about 1/2 an hr, this thing got so annoying, that I took it off and put it away.  The guy beside me smiled, with that "Feel better?" look.

It's hard to believe how stupid people are in airports. A lot of people are actually surprised that they have to take off their shoes...and wind up walking around barefoot.

I swear this is true...I saw a young lady waiting for her husband (I presume) outside the mens room at Orlando International. She had her infant aged kids crawling around on the floor, right at the busy entrance, eating bits of fruit out of a plate that was also on the floor.

Unbelievable the amount of germs they had to be putting in their mouths.

Among the Amish allergies are unknown.

Last time I drove through part of Amish country (PA route 340 / Route 10) was early summer.  It was a Sunday, and meeting / services had obviously just let out.  I passed some teenagers walking down the side of the road, a road which has buggy lanes clearly marked on both sides, which had lots of buggy traffic and which are somewhat liberally spread with the resultant horse manure.  The teenagers were walking barefoot, and not troubling to pay attention to watch out where they were stepping as they chatted and continued walking.  I watched one step into a smashed pile and not react at all.  It was a beautiful day, they were obviously happy and healthy.

We weren't meant to spend so much time trapped indoors, nor to eat the crap that's made available to us in the "supermarkets".

Had some furniture built by the Amish this year; just picked it up about 3 weeks ago actually.

So I was finally talking to the wife of the furniture maker (took a while to get aholt of her, as she obviously didn't own a phone) and was asking for some directions. She said, "You know where the Cheese Mill is, yah? We're just a 25 minute walk from there."

I lol'ed.
