They are just there to feed and clothe the Ukrainian Army deserters.  Hope they don't put them on that damn Mexican train.

The Ukraine should follow the example of the US and secure that border to keep those poor Russian children out.

Glad you mentioned Mexican trains.

Just 100 years and 100 days ago the United States blockaded a Mexican port and thus began the American invasion/intervention in the 4 year-old Mexican (Ukrainian) Civil War (Revolution).  Kaiser Wilhelm (Ceasar/Czar) of the German Empire (US Empire) had been supporting the Porfirio Diaz (Elitist/Dictator/Fascist) faction with arms and supplies in the hopes of diverting America's (Russia's) attention to threats of war in Europe.  Wilson (Putin) was concerned for U.S. (Russian) commercial interests and eventually sent in American (Russian) troops.  There was never any Declaration of War.

Funny how history rhymes.

Now the shoe is on the other foot.   Viva Mexico and Pancho Villa and his Mexican trains carrying horse mounted troops.  Long live the Donbass and Russian intervention on its border!

The deserters weren't getting fed or have enough ammunition. Where did all those MREs go? In some generals warehouse?  I have to visit European EBay to see if they are on sale.

Boy, was I mistaken.   I thought Obama's intelect was far superior to any mortal man.  Putin playing him for a fool.   EXPOSED.

crazzziecanuck's picture

Neither Obama nor Putin run their side of the show.  However, the quality of those advising their respective leaders is starting to come through loud and clear.

There is no better illustration about the quality of an Ivy League education than realizing that George W. Bush went to both Yale and Harvard.  So, if that "cream of the crop" can be President, it goes a long way an explaining the ineptitude in rest of the "deep state."  And this "deep state" runs the show, whether or not it's an R or a D in the Oval Office or even whatever the makeup of Congress actually is.

Looks like Russia doesn't suffer from this problem.  Appears that their leadership acquires their positions by merit, not because they share the same alma mater.

Having KGB on the CV seems to help somewhat.

The difference is, presidential candidates learn how screw ups are covered by money and other peoples demise so they don't really learn anything.

KGB screw ups, well you dont learn much from yours, but you do from other peoples.

cynicalskeptic's picture

Screw up in Russia (as well as in much of the world) and there are (deadly) consequences.   You have a very Darwinian 'winnowing' process where the inept/incompetent are eliminated early on.

Contrast this process to the US where the inept but well funded seem to actualy rise to the top.   Accomplishemnts and ability matter for little compared to connections and family.  George W. Bush would have faded into oblivion with his first bankruptcy but family and friends bailed him out.  His political career was based solely on his name - he had no accomplishments of note in his record.   Even H.W. would've found his future cut short what with his involvement in some very questionable endeavors.

The US has become an inbred oligarchy - and we all know how THOSE end up.....  look at who's being mentioned for 2016 - another Clinton, another Bush.....WTF?     but I suppose that one can argue that our 'leaders' are mere figureheads with those pulling the strings remain in the dark.

Nonetheless, it's clear that whoever's actually running things is a parasite killing the host.  There's no way on earth that this can end well for anyone.

I agree, this has getten to be too stupid to not be on purpose. Its like throwing a bag of kttens into the river, they're finishing up putting the kittens in the bag. Time to tie'er up and take it to the river.

tonyw's picture

The situation with yeltsin in charge was awful, assets were being sold off to criminals at rock bottom prices, threats were made against other bidders so a bunch of very nice oligarchs got control of assets worth many billions - similar to the situation in ukraine. These oligarchs were only interested in stealing as much as possible regardless of consequences and were trying to get into politics to have even more control. This was pretty much taken to extremes in ukraine the most corrupt country in europe where people fought to have one leader replaced then a few years later voted for a complete 180. During the last 15 years putin has cleaned up the situation and things have been improving for the people - note i'm not saying he is any sort of saint. Also during the last 15 years who has invaded the most countries or tried to overthrow their governments? Hint the same country that has been doing it for the last 100 years.

Read Overthrow: America's Century of Regime Change from Hawaii to Iraq by Stephen Kinzer, of course it needs updating.

In a meritocracy, ethnocentric groups are llikely to achieve dominance, because as soon as a few of their members get into positions of power, they chose other members of the 'tribe' rather than the best person, who then do the same, and who then do the same...

Quality of leadership will go down for the same reason; ethnicity trumps talent.

El Vaquero's picture

If I were Putin, I'd put the troops on the border and then not do shit unless they were directly attacked.  I'd then wait until September or October, then announce that natural gas is going up in price to make up for the sanctions.  I'd also start settling oil and gas deals in something other than the dollar, quite possibly at a discount from dollar prices and then make it clear that the discount is because the sanctions aren't having an effect on non-dollar trade.  Making bypassing the dollar an appealing idea to trade partners, but making it voluntary could be a major blow to the US.

Anarchy 99's picture

all good ideas but nothins is going to happen because Germany (and then Europe) economies would die, he cannot have a dead europe, just waiting for the inevitable divorce beetween europe and US, hint: Merkel is in the way, she either moves Germany's ties east or is replaced by someone who will.

all coming this fall.

El Vaquero's picture

That's why I would make settling trade in non-dollars voluntary.  It would be giving Europe a choice - the US, or Russia.  It would also be making the choice easy if the non-dollar price is not raised vs raising the dollar price.  If Europeans don't trust the Ruble, then do it in something else.  Euros or Yuan or even PMs.  Whatever works, just so long as it isn't the dollar.  It is in Russia's best interests to end the stranglehold of the US via the dollar, and since Russia has the oil and gas, it has the leverage to do so.  It can even play the victim while not "forcing" the choice on Europe (yes, it will be a forced choice, but not in a "here's how it's going to be" way,) while watching the US have a shit fit.

Anarchy 99's picture

everything you say makes sense "on the surface" and that is why it will not happen that way, too many heads (of state) will roll and that is also not going to happen, change will happen when those at the top (the invisible ones) will benefit, not suffer from it. years not months to get there.  2016-2018, after the us sheeple "elects" the next puppet to take the blame.

Rootin' for Putin's picture

It would be fun for them to ask germany for payment in gold.  What do you mean the americans wont give it back to you?

SDShack's picture

Like you say, it is probably already happening, and we just don't know about it yet. Your timeline could still be valid, but it will only be a confirmation of what has been going on for several years before.... meaning now.

A border threat is almost as good as all out invasion when nobody knows what he will do next. That border is swiss cheese.

Chief KnocAHoma, what you're saying is more or less the gist of the mainstream anti-Putin propaganda. The only adjectives you have forgotten are "tyrannical" and "autocratic". Ah, and there's the noun "oligarch", too.

The sorry thing is that such pathetic rhetorics work on plenty of gullible people.
