In NYC, it could be handled better than Lagos where i believe it will spread to next and that is when it gets hyper-fucked.

I have a sinking feeling its already in Lagos and its only spreading from there. We will know in another 1 or 2 weeks at the most. I read somewhere recently that Russia is sending Biological Weapons experts to Nigeria to asses the situation as well, anyone else read that?

BTW, I read the article.  What part of Russia are those health workers (in the JPG) from?

Breitbart:

"In addition to the individuals from terror-prone nations who attempted to illegally enter the U.S., individuals from nations currently suffering from the world’s largest Ebola outbreak have been caught attempting to sneak across the porous U.S. border into the interior of the United States. At least 71 individuals from the three nations affected by the current Ebola outbreak have either turned themselves in or been caught attempting to illegally enter the U.S. by U.S. authorities between January 2014 and July 2014."

Yes. I actually think he is the President right now actually anyways.

It's really just a formality involving something along the lines of "who is that dude sitting at the end of the Mall staring at Congress where that other dude gave the I have a dream speech?" (Hint, hint...if you answer that question correctly you get a job he once held.). You have thirty seconds to come up with the correct response.

Tenshin, this underscores the madness of the situation.

One would expect that the powers that be out of basic self-preservation would at least quietly take basic measures to limit the chance of Ebola spreading. Perhaps maintain the political correctness for those still suffering from post-1960s acid experimentation, but ‘direct’ things in the background to protect their own hides.

Nope. Not a chance. Every action of theirs is truly psychotic, comparable to jumping into water with live electric lines pumping major voltage.

The appeals to ‘compassion/charity’ are absurdist (it is evil to endanger millions to feel good being a do-gooder) and inventions of legality laughable (‘right of return’ they say- I guess the droned people somehow are exempt from this novel concept.)

My business requires me to travel and I have to watch this very closely.  I’m shocked so many people I talk to think it is ‘mean’ to be concerned about this.  I know the MSM is spreading the BS thickly, now claiming on CNBC that it is “very hard” to catch Ebola (sure, USAMRID keeps it in Level IV labs and works with it using space suits just for kicks.)

I don’t know gang.  My sense is that intelligent people are reasonably concerned with this.  I told all my compatriots, expect no refuge at the ASACJon redoubt.  Y’all should have been prepping with the rest of us ants.  If Ebola breaks out, it is DEFCON 1 and me and my family will defend ourselves from any trespass.

God willing, this blows over, but I’m not so sure it will.

I don't see it (in the short run) becoming a huge deal in the US. However Africa might depopulate in a big way over the next 6 months.

Now. As Africa implodes there will be a lot of desperate people in flight -- desperate people with money. They will not come the the US because we will have shut down air travel. However they will get into places like Mexico and Haiti with ease. Once there, ebola will take on a new life and might even become more viral than it already is (by being exposed to a greater number of pathogens from which it can "learn" new tricks). In maybe a year you get a serious outbreak in Mexico, and those people already have connections to money and health care in the US, so they stream across the US border by the millions. Short of deploying the US Army there is no way to stop them, no way at all. So then you start getting ebola outbreaks in places like LA, Colorado, rural parts of Texas and New Mexico. Probably the California Bay Area. At that point ebola will become naturalized -- part of the local environment -- and will never go away ever for evar.

fuck the cdc, they're in on the bull shit show, ebola cannot be spread in an aerosol form, I.E. sneezing, it must be spread through direct contact. hence the reason they have not been able to weaponize it, that and it kills too fast for proper fear mongering tactics.

Canadian scientists have shown that the deadliest form of the ebola virus could be transmitted by air between species.

In experiments, they demonstrated that the virus was transmitted from pigs to monkeys without any direct contact between them.

The researchers say they believe that limited airborne transmission might be contributing to the spread of the disease in some parts of Africa.

They are concerned that pigs might be a natural host for the lethal infection.

Not surprised.  After all, "Air" is technically just a low-density FLUID, if you ever studied Thermodynamics.

Also, if you think about it... When in close physical proximity (short travel paths for pathogens), they can hitch a ride via any of the 6 transfer mechanisms that come to mind immediately: Leftover contaminated food bits, a fart, a sneeze, oral slobber, vomit, or hand-to-face-object transfer.

That's why "Charitable Treatment" seems the height/depth of voluntary or self-induced stupidity, given the scope and threat of the problem.

/ p.s. Jesus never told you this, nor did your Church, but... "Being a Good Samaritan" does not work on some microbes.  And "Unconditional Samaritanism" is just Reverse Darwinism (Devolution, not Evolution).  Mother Nature will teach you real soon on what she thinks about that. /sarc

My wife read the news about the lady dying at Gatwick, whether ebola related or proven to be otherwise, and stated that this disease will make it here. She worked in Sierra Leone doing travel nursing and now runs a clinic. She thinks that the US Gov should have sent a Medical boat to Western Africa or Freetown and set up shop there. It breaks every protocol for dealing with a morphing and 90% deadly virus like Ebola. Everything she has read about this is totally wrong. Now I read today that our porous borders have people streaming across from Western Africa. "At least 71 individuals from the three nations affected by the current Ebola outbreak have either turned themselves in or been caught attempting to illegally enter the U.S. by U.S. authorities between January 2014 and July 2014." (Breitbart). She believes that it is airborne too. It has to be because 100 medical professionals would not be stricken with the disease otherwise. My cousin is a PHd epidemiologist who works at Emory. I am trying to get my wife to contact her as they are better friends due to their medical field background. I'll keep you all posted as to any info I may glean. in the meantime, get some P100 masks from Home Depot in the Painting section and a box of latex gloves at the bare minimum. For a family of four, the cost would be about 20 bucks. It's well worth it. This is coming here. Get ready. Have a plan.

The other very suspect thing was Doctor Brantly walking on his own from the ambulance. He either is not infected or he is a decoy for the real doctor who arrived another way and time. He should have had IVs and been on a gurney. He sauntered into the hospital. That was very strange.

Maybe, if that really was the infected doctor,

perhaps he was already in recovery mode.

He supposedly received a blood transfusion in Africa from an Ebola survivor,

which would give the receiver some working anti-bodies against Ebola from the survivor,

supposedly the only proven method of treatment,

as used in previous outbreaks in Africa.

Cogs, without sounding 'too' paranoid:

- overpopulation

- resource shortages (oil, water, food)

- accelerating global crackup boom, about to enforce net-worth discovery on some very 'rich' people (and nations)

- all attempts at WWIII 'hot war' have fizzled

- internet has destroyed the secrecy that used to cloak the ruling class

- government spying is openly discussed by populations around the world

- 'national security' tends to arouse fear and suspicion rather than nationalism and loyalty to leaders

- the internet has crippled corporate and government propaganda

Cogs, when war fails and famine is too slow, what is left for the oligarchs to try but pestilence? That's the riskiest option (well, in some ways), but 'risk' is not a word that today's oligarch notices much.

Call me paranoid, my brother. Do your worst. I can take it.

Our greatest liability when considering and confronting the PTB is we fail to imagine their sociopathy. What to us appears to be mental illness and a dark path is to them business as usual. The only constraint holding them back is their fear of being caught and hung from the nearest lamp post, not what they're actually doing.

When they become desperate even that constraint disappears.

Being in San Diego I have seen many cases of active TB cases trying to cross the border. These are not all Mexican. We have many different nationalities represented including from the ME. If someone is showing signs of TB they can hold them but for only a certain amount of time. I can't tell you how many times I've called border control saying I've isolated TB when they say Damn, just let him go. Remember, obvious hemorrhage in Ebola is found only in 50% of cases. It would not be outrageous to suggest one could cross the border considering the laxity I'm witnessing.

The only sane approach to this is containment. We have lost our one chance.

I'm just speculating, but there is a possibility that the 72 year old lady that died at Gatwick may have developed a deep vein thrombosis during the 6 hour plane trip.  When she deboarded it could have dislodged a clot and caused a pulmonary embolism, which can cause the sweating and vomiting that witnesses described.  So it might have been a false alarm after all. Or not.

Or acute MI (heart attack). Women don't always get the crushing chest pain that men get. Women can often experience sudden intense fatigue, acute nausea/vomiting, sudden and severe back pain as opposed to chest pain, severe sweating. But, yes, it is in the realm of possibility that she had a fatal pulmonary embolus or even fatal ischemic stroke from a DVT.

In chapter four of my 5 part "Welcome to the Insane Asylum" I talk about the time when I shot my leg just above the knee with a nail gun. Waited several hours in the ER for the orthopedic surgeon to show up and experienced a revelation regarding 'fear' and pain. Once I recognized the connection I was able to sever it at will and greatly reduce the 'pain' I felt.

We control the chains that bind us to our fear and all the resulting complications in life that spring from that fear.

That chapter can be found here under the section called "Fear the Nailman".

LOL

At least I survived my attack on myself.

Nailman

The surgeon said an inch lower and it would have blown out my knee. A half inch to the left or right, instead of straight thru the center of the bone, and I would have split in half my femur. A million in one shot designed to teach without permanent damage.

I post that image now and then as a reminder I should try to remain humble. That 'shot' more than anything else is a wonderful example of my ego run riot.

BTW anyone who knows nail-guns realizes the nail is barbed and glued. It was pulled out in the ER without pain killers with the surgical version of vise grip locking pliers using a twisting motion similar to removing a cork from a bottle.

It took a few minuets to be removed. It was stubborn.

Pretty good shot.

Went to the range with our new 380 this weekend.  First time we'd fired it.  The wife shot the crap out of the bullseyes.  I had some loose groupings around the belly.  Everytime we go shooting it becomes more and more clear, I don't want her really mad at me.  I do believe she could nail me to the wall if she wanted to.  Not that I don't like getting nailed by her.

You don't want to be around Mrs. Cog when she is really angry. Teddy the local bear runs and hides when Mrs Cog has her steam up. She always tells me I haven't yet seen her when she's really angry. That may be so, but I've seen enough to get the message.

Our back property line is along the edge of a ridge that has a near vertical drop of a quarter mile. I always make sure Mrs. Cog and I don't walk the logging road along the ridge when she is angry. All it takes is a little shove and........ :)

Thanks for link CD, have been enjoying dipping in to some of your bits and bobs on the blog, will have a read.

I think you're right, I'm thankful that I seem to have found, by long hours of searching and reading, the same principle.  The fear of pain, loss and death are the only tools with which we can be controlled.  The hilarious irony of our situation is that all of these things are inevitable.  It's possible to be free from any circumstance, if you simply choose it.  Perhaps this is the only real choice we can ever make.  'The myth of freedom' as Chogyam Trungpa called it.

Edit: just saw the xray.  That's impressive fail my man.

Save your hate for the real puppetmasters, the ones with the brains. They don't change. Some of them have been the same names for over a century. Your energy should be saved so it can be focused on the real problem, the people who have captured your government to the degree that Barky even has this kind of power, and the criminality is this obvious.

I wanna say 9 million in 1919. Maybe it was 19 million...but people just dropped dead and it was definitely war related.

That's where the playbook comes from for dealing with these things...and simply put "containment means containment."

Simply "rushing off to Africa to save the day" is the height of incompetence. The folks I the ground there set up their own containment facilities first...have themselves checked out...then proceed from there.

There is no "special treatment" when you're dealing with an outbreak.

The CDC conflates flu with secondary complications, usually pneumonia, in their influenza statistics.

Flu by itself kills almost nobody in the U.S. these days. That 36,000 per year number is almost 100% pneumonia and other complications in individuals already compromised by the flu, usually the very young, very old, or already very sick.

Do a little reading on the flu of 1918.  I wonder if that virus, which infected 500 million and killed somewhere between 50-100 million, caused a touch of 'fear-mongering'.  That was at a time when the world's population was 30% of today's level.  Another virus WILL destroy >10% of the world's human population.  Ebola is more lethal than the Spanish flu.  This outbreak suggests it is also becoming more virulent than prior forms.  A 21-day incubation period is what will make this a global killer.  Over time, more than 1 great plague has originated in Africa: (1) fireants, (2) killer bees, (3) Obama's father; (4) giant African land snail; (5) Ebola . . .

Storm in a teacup. Many Africans sadly are uneducated and/or ignorant about infectious diseases and will keep on eating tasty (therefore fine) bushmeat or shagging someone who looks fairly healthy on the outside. Also, in 1918, immunity and resistance to disease was weakened after four years of world war. This will all blow over fairly quickly.
