New York City Hospital Quarantines Man With Ebola-Like Symptoms Who Walked Into ER

Tyler Durden's picture

UPDATE (via Mt.Sinai Press Conference):

* * *

As CBS reports,

A patient at Mount Sinai hospital is being tested after traveling to a country where the Ebola virus is present, the hospital said in a statement.

The man arrived at Mount Sinai’s emergency room early Monday morning with high fever and gastrointestinal symptoms.

The man told doctors he had recently traveled to a West African country where Ebola is present, the hospital said.

The man has been placed in “strict isolation” and is undergoing various tests to determine the cause of the symptoms, the hospital said.

All appropriate steps to keep patients, staff and visitors safe are being taken, the hospital said.

Let's hope we do not start adding to this...

*  *  *

NY Times adds,

A hospital spokeswoman, Dorie Klissas, said that to protect the patient’s privacy the hospital was not making public his occupation, which country he had been in, whether he had been exposed to a patient with Ebola there, or whether he had close contacts like family members, friends or co-workers who were also at risk. Ms. Klissas said the patient’s blood was being tested for Ebola, but she declined to say when the test results would be available.

...

Ian Michaels, a spokesman for the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation, said that another patient was isolated at a hospital in the city last week after arriving on a flight from West Africa and showing symptoms found in Ebola patients.

That man was screened at Kennedy International Airport on Wednesday night and taken to Bellevue Hospital. He had a fever, but within a day the fever had gone away and it became clear that he did not have Ebola. Mr. Michaels did not know the details of the tests performed on the man.

“We are on a heightened state of alert,” he said. “We have instructed all 11 of our hospitals to follow C.D.C. guidelines and be on the lookout for Ebola-like symptoms.”

As we noted previously, this is what to expect if Ebola comes to America

RE: Patient with Febrile Illness and Recent Travel to West Africa

A patient with high fever and gastrointestinal symptoms, after recent travel to a West African country where Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) has been reported, presented to the Emergency Department at The Mount Sinai Hospital last night. The patient has been placed in strict isolation, and is currently undergoing medical screenings to determine the cause of the symptoms. All necessary steps are being taken to ensure the safety of all patients, visitors and staff.

The Incident Command Centers of The Mount Sinai Hospital and the Mount Sinai Health System have been activated and are working together in a unified fashion. The Mount Sinai Health System has been activated to a (HICS) Level 1 Alert. The Mount Sinai Hospital has been activated to (HICS) Level 2.

The Department of Emergency Management and the Division of Infectious Diseases at The Mount Sinai Hospital are employing all necessary infection control measures to protect patients and staff and to continue to provide the best care to our patients.  It is important to note that EVD can only be transmitted through direct contact with bodily fluids. The infection cannot be transmitted through casual contact.

General Information Regarding EVD:

  • As of August 1, 2014, approximately 1,300 cases (suspected and confirmed) had been reported in the West African countries of Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone.
  • EVD is a severe, often fatal disease (case fatality is 55 to 60%).
  • Along with direct contact with bodily fluids, including infected blood, urine, sweat, semen and breast milk, exposure to objects (e.g., needles, sharps) contaminated with infected bodily fluids can spread the infection.
  • Patients with EVD are potentially infectious from onset of fever until weeks or months after recovery.
  • Ebola symptoms can appear from 2 to 21 days after exposure to the virus, with 8 to 10 days being the most common. Symptoms typically include fever, headache, muscle and joint pain (myalgias/arthralgias), weakness, diarrhea, vomiting, and abdominal pain.
  • Hemorrhagic symptoms include broken blood vessels in the eyes (conjunctival hemorrhage), easy bruising, and GI bleeding.

Reporting:

Contact the Infectious Disease Attending on call or Infection Control for further guidance.
Immediately report all suspected cases of EVD to the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOH) at 866-692-3641866-692-3641 .

For additional, accurate information, please visit the CDC’s webpage: http://www.cdc.gov/vhf/ebola.

We will continue to keep you updated.

@proofreder...

whew!  for a minute there, i thought there may be some cause for concern.  fortunately, you're here to redeem us from our folly and convincingly allay all concerns viz. our government and its proclivity for conspiracy.  boy, is my face ever red.  i, for one, cannot blame any who lay suspicion at DC's door -- at any and all occasion arousing suspicion.  it's becoming my first and reflexive instinct.  but, again, whew!  your tidy lil explanation of this ebola's operative mechanics sure made me feel like an ass.  when will i ever feel whole and respectable again?

do you have any fuckin idea the level of our 'involvement' in sierra leone, libera, guinea, IC...etc., etc. etc...along africa's western coast (particularly in that area).  knowing this, and understanding the operative mechanisms by which uncle sam plies his trade, you want us to feel inferior and/or insecure in our well-warranted suspicion?

by-the-by, what if i felt it in the best interest to cultivate an atmosphere of dubious suspicion with respect to our 'public-servants' down in DC?  i don't think you'll do a fuckin thing about it, bitch.  and i furthermore have my doubts about you.  you didn't give one goddam reason why that virus wasn't in any way manipulated or planted in the most-delicious fruit-bat population...no you just rambled on briefly about that general virus-family-tree, gave some overview of it's protein density and followed up with its favored nesting sites.  you offered nothing to prove that it's a natural and spontaneous event.

very unHedgelike, dude.

a lil advice: that preening tone of yours is nauseating...best work on that, lest i do it for you.

i can't tell whether your being sarcastic or not...couldn't take that chance,

I had read the SV40 with the Merck Dr. involved that knew of the virus/vaccine & gave her passing mention. Never had any idea of the poor woman's demise. The web is intriguing & the author is in the catbird seat regarding the whispers not to mention knowing her from childhood. The collider is an interesting spoke in this wheel. The Oswald angle is interesting too, especially coupled with Michael Ruppert & William Coopers take on the assasination, plus EO11110 & LBJ making boatloads with his C-ration interests during the VN war.

It's piqued my interest & moved to the top of my reading list.

Can you imagine if we knew what these evil people were really up to & what we have no clue of?

Commercial ebola vaccine 'unlikely' say researchers

Scientists researching the lethal ebola virus have told the BBC that a commercial vaccine to prevent the onset of infection may never be developed.

Two companies with leading vaccine candidates have had their funding from the Pentagon suspended in recent weeks.

An expert said it was now "unlikely" a prophylactic vaccine would ever be used to prevent outbreaks of the disease.

you are too jaded fonz. both of these americans survived while everybody else is dropping like flies. it was fairly obvious from day one they would get the same type of treatment that the german woman received several years back after she had contracted ebola.

in fact, that would explain exactly why the govt was willing to fly both of them back to atlanta, as they were already recovering and wanted to see the effects of the experimental medicine.

Well as unhealthy as most amerikans are, they are still light years ahead of most of Africa.

Something with a 90% fatality rate in Africa might not translate the same in the developed world.

Anti-virals as medicines suck ass.  If anything they are looking to isolate antibodies from these two to help with some type of patent medicine.

But you have the underlying problem of shitty immune system=shitty effect of any vaccine.

Important to remember that Mt. Sinai Hospital of New York was/is a known CIA subcontractor, at least it was from the 50s - 70s. "Doctor" Harold A. Abramson was the head of their "allergy" department, which was actually a front for LSD distribution and experimentation. Gerald Oster, another CIA agent who authored a paper called "Auditory Beats in the Brain" was later passed on to The Monroe Institute, a half-DoD-half-MKULTRA subcontractor, and is the genesis of the Cohen Brothers movie "The Men Who Stare at Goats," though obviously portrayed in a way that heavily obfuscates what was really going on. The former connection is outlined in H.P. Albarelli's book, "A Terrible Mistake;" the latter is a connection I made myself.

Yes. Agree. A real shot in the arm for pharma industry. In other news today the status of the two American help-workers who contracted ebola is now reported improving after they recieved an experimental drug.Let´s hope there will be a robust pricing on new antiviral drugs. If the MIC can , we can. ACA you say? Medicaid and Medicare you say? Yes very good outlets for robustly priced new drugs for new diseases. The sucker called tax payer will not be in a position to argue this once an ebolaendemic gets going. And refusing to buy and provide to the poor Africa will be addressed as racist.Very rayciss´

At this point I am convinced that only one of two things can be true:

1) The Ebola scare is a psyop

2) The plan to cull the human race Georgia Guidestones-style has been set in motion.

I'm not seeing any other explanations that fit the facts. Either it's total bullshit, which explains not taking straightforward measures like suspending air travel; or these developments are deliberate efforts by those in the government (and presumably, those to whom they answer) to spread an engineered bioweapon.

Anyone got a plausible alternative hypothesis? I could really use one...

Its kind of weird. The more accurate our weapons, supposedly to minimize collateral damage, the more outrageous collateral damage becomes. If the Jews and the Palestinians were murdering each other with machetes, I guess it would all be OK. Unless of course the jews had bigger knives. I'm not going to defend any of them but it does seem odd that those who actually attempt to minimize collateral damage are the immoral ones while those who admit to random acts of violence and go so far as to deliberately use their own people's lives for political strategy are some how on a higher moral plain. Are the morals being evaluated based on who is losing the most lives? If so I would think the only means America has of redeeming its moral high ground is to destroy all of our weapons and absolutely do not fight back if attacked, unless it is done secretly or through third parties. Is this the Obama doctrine? Under current rules of engagement our military is absolutely prevented from achieving any real victories and it sounds like this is the approach we want Israel to adopt. Only shoot when shot at, and if found in a position of superior firepower, restrain yourself as to not take advantage (the one hand held behind your back approach) and anything you destroy you must rebuild twice. Things are so distorted that it is impossible. This belief that we should endeavor for everything to end in a draw so we don't have victors guilt syndrome is nuts. We should either fight to win or get the fuck out. Israel will need to come to this end. Win absolutely or disband and move to NY.

I never attribute anything to malice or conspiracy that can be explained by abject stupidity. What's distressing is how stupidity manifests itself at the highest levels.

Senator Jeff Sessions is one of the most conservative Senators in the country, representing one of the most conservative constituencies in the country - mine.

I met him a while back. I led a team of software developers that developed a software application that allowed Alabama citizens to upload pictures, videos and other information about veterans; and provided a web portal where people can view information on any war or campaign and then look at the local veterans who participated in that campaign.

At the unveiling ceremony, the good Senator showed up. As he stepped up to the podium, an aide whispered to him "Talk about the military - the veterans, we're here to honor the veterans".

It filled me with confidence and pride to know that our leaders are primed and ready to go at all times.

By the way, here's the website if anyone wants to take a look: https://www.veteransregisterofhonor.com/Pages/Home.aspx

It seems we both live in the same area (northeast Alabama.) It was interesting to read your post, because some years back I was hired by someone to design a web site for the "American Veterans' Hall of Honor", which was a monument someone was trying to put up down near Birmingham. I don't remember who it was that hired me, but he or his employer was trying to get funding to build the place, and I built the web site which looked a thousand times better than their old one. After the job was done I lost touch with the guy, and a year or two later checked back to see the site was down. Figured the project must have been cancelled, but looking at the link you posted, I'm wondering if that's the same people? Small world...

Fine explanation, but what then explains the apparent active efforts of governments to facilitate its spread, including explicitly giving it a free lift over the Atlantic Ocean?

We get into "well, government is incompetent to..." territory here, and while I am a full believer in government incompetence, what we see here is not easily explained as such.

I am willing to allow for a combination of cupidity, stupidity, and hubris. So the usual reasons for just about anything.

A lot of the people working at the CDC must be from Big Pharma, Monsanto, Genentec, and a host of other minions of Satan. They just want the bug in-house. To play with mostly, but also to write up important-sounding papers and scholarly works the better to promote their careers. There is no creature more morally degenerate than a grant-writing academic working for a government agency. Nothing. And they would be able to get ebola into the States in about half a heartbeat.

That was my thought as well. It is more about showing you made it to the big time when you get to see this firsthand and your pockets get stuffed with grant money.

I doubt this would be some sort of nefarious operation. Hell, it is all over in Africa.  Just drop a team in and you have all you want in no time flat.

Let's be careful though. Sleazing ebola into Atlanta just so you can write your first-hand observations up in a medical journal just so you can land another $3.2M CDC grant is reasonably nefarious for most people.

The only logical reason to bring ebola patients here is if ebola is already here in the USA.  Then there is little extra risk.

I suspect that the CDC already has good reason to believe that ebola is in the US.  They might as well bring infected patients here to get experience in treatment first hand.
