Why the Heck Are We Bringing Ebola Patients Into the U.S.?

George Washington's picture

There’s no cure for Ebola.

Ebola is deadly and contagious.  90% of those who catch it die quickly.

Normally, the extreme lethality of Ebola means that the virus quickly “burns itself out”.  Specifically, if a villager eats an infected fruit bat and comes down with Ebola, it quickly kills the villager and everyone around him … and then the spread stops because it can’t travel to the next village over.

In other words, extreme deadliness of Ebola normally insures that it doesn’t spread very far.

But – for the first time in history – it is now spreading worldwide. As Michael Snyder notes:

#1 As the chart below demonstrates, the spread of Ebola is starting to become exponential…

#2 This is already the worst Ebola outbreak in recorded history by far.

#3 The head of the World Health Organization says that this outbreak “is moving faster than our efforts to control it“.

#4 The head of Doctors Without Borders says that this outbreak is “out of control“.

#5 So far, more than 100 health workers that were on the front lines fighting the virus have ended up contracting Ebola themselves.  This is happening despite the fact that they go to extraordinary lengths to keep from getting the disease.

***

As Paul Craig Roberts so aptly put it the other day, all it would take is “one cough, one sneeze, one drop of saliva, and the virus is loose“.

As Dr. Sanjay Gupta notes, there have been lapses in safety at the Centers for Disease Control and U.S. hospitals in treating infectious diseases.

So why is the U.S. flying in Ebola patients to be treated on U.S. soil?

Yes, I feel sorry for the American aid workers who were trying to do good in Africa by helping those infected with Ebola.  But the risk of losing containment of this beast is too high.

Mono-clonal anti-bodies,

actually, a combination of three different mono-clonal anti-bodies,

three different methods of attacking virus, or blocking cell infection.

I really don't understand the MSM demonizing people who have concerns about Ebola.  They obviously have no understanding of how quickly and randomly viruses mutate, and it has never occurred to them that an airborne mutant is a possibility.  I know some posters here have argued against this possibility.  However, read about the Reston virus, a different Ebola genus virus that almost certainly DID go airborne at a facility in Reston, Virginia.  This was the topic of the book: The Hot Zone.  If a simian filovirus can mutate to be spread by airborne transmission there's no reason any human Ebola strain couldn't do the same.  That being a possibility the prudent thing to have done would have been to fly whatever the American patients needed to them rather than bring them and the virus to North America.  This decision should really make you wonder what the real agenda is...

It's a bit surprising that there's little mention of the two Americans receiving an experimental drug, never tested on humans, without a FDA approval.  For all those who have died or are close to death from other diseases while waiting for FDA approvals, this would seem to be a massive slap in the face.  For example, glioblastoma multiforme patients have little hope of a long term solution and there are many experimental drugs denied patients.

"It's a bit surprising that there's little mention of the two Americans receiving an experimental drug, never tested on humans, without a FDA approval."

Why?

Does the Army or the CDC need permission from the FDA?

I'm NOT saying that there can't be something funny going on here, but to suggest that these folks don't have a means of expediting in case of emergency...

Is Glioblastoma Multiforme [readily] communicable?

The Army needs permission from the FDA, yes, indeed. They may use "off label" drugs or experimental drugs, but they still need FDA permission to do so. They may not apply these druges to non-uniformed personnel, however.

I suspect the patients were brought to the US for controlled clinical trials of treatment, and, as pointed out by some other posters, that the CDC and the government has detemined the virus is most likely already here in any event, so we might as well as get as most clinical controlled studies going as early as possible. I think this is the rationale, bit it's just a guess, really.

Hope I am wrong, but I do not take this as a very good sign.

Seeing Ebola victims in the US soon will give weight to my reasoning.

I also suspect the government may try and deny the existence of the virus in the US until the numbers are too high to deny any longer and is spreading uncontrollably. They will do this to try and avoid panic and hope the virus can be contained. Time will tell.

We reieved shots in the first Gulf War  that were not advertised. We recieved shots including Small pox before we left CONUS for OP Iraqi Freedom. These were not placed on our shot records like the rest. This is Big Pharma fixing to make a big pay day, Some people have to die for the system to work. They had to import the friggin' disease because it couldn't get here fast enough. Evil people are trying hard. Have you noticed the rise in sales of Mega Yachts over the last 18 months? Those that don't have underground bunkers are buying boats and going to sea to wait it out. It's coming, fast.

There was real concern, perhaps nit justified, but real nonetheless, regarding the threat of anthrax and small pox being used by terrorists and Iraq. As the result of law suits intiated and won be service personnel, the Department of Defense needs FDA approval to administer experimenal or "off-label" drugs. Service members may also now refuse these drugs. In 2003, you had to take them, but a couple of people refused, bravely I think, and got matters changed.

My late wife got admitted to a UCLA chemo program for GM. All she got was Avastin and chemo cocktails. It didn't work and she seemed to be poisoned faster but at least it was tried.  Took forever for insurance to accept the huge charges but you never know what might work.

As far s Ebola I always wondered if a UN delegate might bring it to NYC and spread it in a place that might not recognize it quick enough.  Glad we are seeing it , collecting data and trying new meds. Being it is not common here or Europe I don't think the pharmaceutical companies want to spend much researching a new drug for it.

But how controllable could any outbreak such as possible here with ebola be?  That is, how certain could any of the "chosen ones" be that they are going to be protected?  While most anything is possible I have to wonder about probabiity, and it seems there's likely other actions that are likely to have a far greater probability (of being able to be a bit more discerning on selection of target audience).

There is really no cure for a virus, there is only prevention, containment, mitigation or recovery. Since the charts I've seen look like hockey sticks I can only assume this thing has gone exponential and containment is no longer possible. I caught the measles in 1956, and I can remember being really sick for a very long time. My mother said I was out of my head delirious for several days. There was no vaccine at the time. My parents were both immune, but my sisters got gamma globulin shots. The youngest never got it at all. The middle sister only got a few spots and was hardly ill. The rest of us might be screwed, but I bet there will be gamma globulin made from the serum of survivors, at least for the government elite and the princes of finance and industry.

The single biggest question we should be asking ourselves as "citizen/slaves" in addition to the fact they brought infected patients back into the United States which is one of the most egregious violations to protocol of health and safety given the nature of the crisis and condition of the patient(s), is the uncanny timing of all those thousands of illegal immigrants being detained in military facilities starting last month across the Country that none of us still know about and the potential for there use(s) as conduits for "Ebola passage"...

But hey! This is the same government that can declare you a "terrorist" at the flip of a coin and be your judge, jury and executioner whenever and wherever they see fit?!!!

If the militias don't grow expotentially at this point to take care of the problem at the State and Federal level, think it's safe to say that we need to get comfortable with the notion that our lives will be considerably shortened and that we can either make preparations with an automatic weapon of our choice with lots of ammo or finding the toll free number to the nearest FEMA facility in our neighborhood!

High profile incidents covered by the media often reassures the public that the government stands ready to rush to our aid in case of a national disaster. Following a tornado or hurricane in the newscast we see FEMA workers spread-out and moving from door to door offering help to Americans in need.

Be prepared that in the case of a major crisis or disaster if you find yourself in an large area of devastation the government will prove largely ineffective. If and when a really large Armageddon event does occur we will quickly become acutely aware that God helps those who help themselves. More on this subject in the article below.

They have been taken back to the US conduct experiments on, not spread the disease. If there is going to be an outbreak of Ebola in the US, it will be well after these people are dead or cured, so that no one serious will be able to blame it on these two patients and their presence in the US. The "vaccine" is expected to be ready only by September or October. There will be no other cases of Ebola in the US until the "vaccine" is ready.
