Another "Sick" American Undergoing Ebola Testing, This Time In Columbus [Update: Tested Negative]
UPDATE: Ohio Department of Health has confirmed test results have come back NEGATIVE for a person tested for the Ebola virus in Columbus.
Which raises the question - why is taking Mt.Sinai 24-48 hours to test their Ebola-suspected patient?
Sickened Columbus, Ohio, woman who recently traveled to west Africa is being tested for Ebola as precaution, public health dept. says.
— ABC News (@ABC) August 5, 2014
Columbus Public Health confirms a person is undergoing testing and has been quarantined for the deadly Ebola virus.
CPH says the person recently traveled to West Africa, where an outbreak has left nearly 900 people dead.
A spokesperson says they’re working with the CDC to learn the preliminary results of those tests.

More great Ebola news to go with other news about a U.S. general just gunned down in Afghanistan by an Afghan soldier at a military college.
Could this be the USSA gubmint's way of dealing with the illegal immigration problem by scaring people away at the border with the fear of contracting Ebola?
Tylers how did you miss this : http://uk.reuters.com/article/2014/08/05/uk-afghanistan-attacks-idUKKBN0...

Africans Accuse ‘Westerners’ Of Spreading Ebola
a eugenicist's wet dream
Oh those superstitious Africans...
Everyone knows where there's smoke, there's ___________.
there's a 15 inch dildo up Obola's ass?
Obama will leave no golf course unplayed in his search for answers.
A few more false alarms like this, and everyone will become so used to it, it won't even make top of the news when the real shit starts...
Everyone knows where there's smoke, there's ___________.
Bush Meat?
Africans Accuse ‘Westerners’ Of Spreading [insert grievance here]
This has been going on a long time...
Contained? From WHO data found at http://www.who.int/csr/don/archive/year/2014/en/
March 2014
Cases - 151
Deaths - 95
Mortality - 63%
April 2014
Cases - 338
Deaths - 160
Mortality - 47%
May 2014
Cases - 436
Deaths - 222
Mortality - 51%
June 2014
Cases - 779
Deaths - 481
Mortality - 62%
July 2014
Cases - 1603
Deaths - 887
Mortality - 55%
I pulled the data as close to a full month as possible, off by a couple of days here and there. The trend is quite clear, however. Graph it and it begins to look exponential.
I did plot the exponential function and got 150,000 cases/day by late october
Those are month-end data, and cumulative, in case that affects your calculation.
yes, that makes it only 58,000 cases/day by end of october
The 4 data sets above yield a simple average mortality increase of 177%/month.
Using that as a basis for projection:
August 2015: 3,412,196 deaths (cumulative)
August 2016: 3,226,545,501 deaths (cumulative)
And just for the heck of it:
September 2016: 5,710,985,686
Fuck 'em then. I'd rather that their shitty country not spread disease and pestilence across my border. Some of us would rather live to see 50 than die with a bleeding anus.
(No games. I am quite happy to not allow "Western foreigners" into a disease-riddled cesspool.)
Who made the decision to let Mrs. Whitebol and Dr. Brantly back in? Hmm? Whoever decided, the buck still stops at the President.
And why is the CDC not moving FAST on the serum?
* * *
Fast moving story, I may have to update...:
"President Ebola"
http://goo.gl/KujHQE
Not like the US military couldn't have airlifted some quarantine chambers to Africa and helped the Americans who contracted Ebola there, watch until syptom free for weeks then brought back to States. This actually seems like something worthy of our miltary, as in a real threat, but no.... doesn't enable our industrial military complex selling enough weapons I guess.
And while the US Military is at it, they could airlift actual gloves, respirators, suits, IVs and saline solution, disinfectant, and other things that would make difference today. Instead they airlift tweats and facefuck posts about the future contributions of Yellen's printing press that would love to channel through GE Healthcare and a resurrected ExIm Bank.
Other ideas I had heard about were:
1) Treating US victims on remote African US military bases
2) Treating on board a hospital ship
* * *
If Ebola goes airborne, we have some problems ahead...
Interesting piece on the serum:
[T]here is such a [serum], it is a secret, and it is reserved only for select individuals (because there probably isn’t much). Oh, and it is totally experimental and until now, never before tried on humans.
This is an untested drug that is not available for general use. But, it could be. All it takes is deciding to spend the money and effort on developing it.

I think we'll really know for sure it's an airborne pandemic when they start handing out free face masks at Harbor Freight.
ok... hold on here... back up
('beep beep beep' as george costanza would say).
we didn't hear anything about ebola in this country for decades and now it's on every street corner?
tell me this isn't a manufactured crisis again?>>>>>>
Okay. This isn't the manufactured crisis you're looking for...
The only guaranteed way to stay safe is to "LINE UP!" for shots when the overlords say so.
Fuck that! I'm in the process of Tyveking over my entire house. My family will remain inside until this whole thing blows over. We have lots of canned goods, rice, MREs and bottled water. I made sure to use heavy duty duct tape in securing my airtight cocoon. I figure Ebola should burn itself out in the next few months and we will emerge victorious!
The CDC could issue your house a BSL4 certification...

As most people don't have insurance under Obamacare, they can't afford a doctor and just go to the movies "to spread the wealth"
With all credit to McMolotov
Eeeeeee-bol-aaaaa
It's called tourisme and well... A few more weeks and most of them will all be back into America.
And luckely, as most people still have no clue what's happening, it will all be about the surprise.
Give it 1 to 2 more months and there will be massive bans on flights from and to Africa in general. Way to late off course...
Just imagine if we hit 30K deaths in 6 months from now? And half a million in a year...
We think that Nature is at our will and whim. Nature thinks otherwise and is demonstrating who is in charge.
Slight tweek to your post:
"Nature acts and is demonstrating who is ultimately in charge"
No it could not.
Don't worry... the social living conditions under which ebola spreads are unique to Africa and the third world. Don't need to go into that any farther.
And even under these best conditions for exponential growth the curve is still rather level all things considered.
That said I approve of the move by British Airways to suspend flights to and from Western Africa. Some day a real nasty pathogen or a more viral mutation of this disease will be heading to the Western world.
A special reminder to all African infectees...
The cure to the disease comes from a government lab in Canada so do not come with your infections to the United States.
"TORONTO — The experimental Ebola drug given to two American aid workers is based on years of research done at Canada’s National Microbiology Laboratory in Winnipeg.
The drug is a cocktail of three monoclonal antibodies, disease fighting proteins that target a specific part of an invading virus.
Sources have told The Canadian Press that two of the three monoclonal antibodies in the drug were designed at the Winnipeg laboratory."
http://o.canada.com/news/national/experimental-ebola-drug-based-on-resea...
The Harper Government however is a faith based government that has cut off research funding for diseases that are clearly caused by God to punish bad people. Therefore stocks of the antidote are extremely limited so get on a plane to Canada now.
"unique to Africa and the third world..." So the "developed" world docs and healthacare workers contracting this disease in Africa are so careless as to not avoid/minimise these third world conditions? This variant is obviously airborne and robust outside the host - this might be the viral mutation you're speaking of.
All things are possible and the mutation of this disease as it is spread is a real possibilty. And no one is sure yet of the length of the incubation period before symptoms appear.
I never said this couldn't turn into a global pandemic but the evidence that this will does not exist yet.
There is shit absolutely everywhere down there and it's hard to the scrub the dirt floors of makeshift hospitals clean. Plus you can see how the disposal of wastes and bodies is difficult to keep sterile in the tropical conditions.
So don't freak. Plus they love it when you freak.
That is why I wholeheartedly approve of the British Airways travel restrictions.
You mention "the curve is still rather level all things considered." Please check the WHO data (you can look at my post 5050152 above). It's anything but level. No editorial comment from me, it's just the data and it doesn't suggest containment.
Just banning flights from West Africa in the UK or the US won't work. You have to put up a no fly zone around West Africa, except for humanitarian flights in and out of that area.
Time to put up quite a few aircraft carriers off the coast of W. Africa and shoot down any attempted flight out of the zone unless properly vetted.
Also, no flights from Africa period allowed to land anywhere at any international airport until well after the outbreak has died down.
Time to put up a ring of fire around the disease and kill anyone trying to cross the fire line.
Of course that means they would have to start shooting all the African refugees trying to reach Europe across the Mediterranean.
Better start now before it starts working its way up to North Africa through the Middle East up in to Turkey and on in to Europe. Buy then it will be so uncontrollable that no amount of vaccinations, even if they have a viable one, will stop it.
That's a little extreme and we aren't quite there yet but yes NO FLY is what should be initiated until we know more about this disease.
As for shooting down the flights... well that could infect innocent whales and dolphins so better put a hold on those plans.
If that's too extreme then you wouldn't think twice about flying into West Africa today and then back out again would you?
Just touch down at the airport, walk around the terminal, then fly back.
No need to visit the country side or anything.
So when in your mind would we be 'there'? 10k deaths? 100k? 1mil?
No they want open borders. I hope we get some carriers in Calif, Manhattan, Long Island, Chicgo and other blue states who voted for this in 2008 and 2012. F U Democrats.
Wow. Just. Wow.
After nearly 4 years of posting here, you STILL subscribe to the left/right nonsense spilling out of your TV?
Maybe Ebola shouldn't be our biggest concern.
President Obola expected to issue a statement as soon as he holes out on #9
He is currently refueling the Doomsday Golfcart.
The latest trend....Take a Flight...land at destination....die at exit gate of the destination airport...and, no...it is not Ebola...it is a coincidence that you were just in West Africa....

but no...except Lagos...nowehere it is Ebola....carry on....it's just normal to die at the airport once you land! :)
One was old (72) and one died of a heart attack. If there were no Ebola outbreak, these deaths wouldn't be newsworthy. However, to give you some credit, two were 40 and had flu like symtpoms. Those I might worry about.
I can imagine Morris Dukuly is a bit busy right now, but apparently he didn't get TPTB's memo about the "heart attack" line. (Business as usual in Africa)
http://www.news.heritageliberia.net/index.php/inside-heritage/health/358...
lordylord,
To be fair, airport deaths are extremely uncommon. There are not many 70 plus year old people who have died at the gates of their destination airports. They might get sick, but dead, no. Heart attacks on planes, yes, new born on planes, yes, but deaths at airport, I cannot remember any, even in the last year or two, do you?
You missed the common thread being West Africa.
If someone from London died at HK airport, it is not the same. But that was not the case. There is common denominator here....and everything must be treated suspiciously unless proven otherwise.
airline customer service just isn't what it used to be.
Can we divert some of these flights to Baltimore, Chicago, Oakland, Philly, DC and Islip on LI?
Fredrik Sunesson had high hopes when the first tanker truck unloaded feces from some of Accra’s 4 million residents at his recycling plant in Ghana’s capital. Seventeen months later, those expectations have been dashed.
A combination of red tape and disputes over payments mean Sunesson’s Slamson Ghana Ltd. is running far below capacity, he says. Most of the 140 tankers dump the contents of Accra’s toilets each day into the Gulf of Guinea at a foul-smelling dune known as Lavender Hill. The lagoon nearby is so polluted that scientists says most life-forms can’t survive. The slum nearby has earned the nickname Sodom and Gomorrah.
“It’s a shame for everybody, most of all for the environment and the people of Accra,” Sunesson said.
Despite a series of infrastructure projects backed by foreign donors, Accra doesn’t have a working sewer system, leaving most of its citizens to choose between communal latrines or defecating on open ground. That’s contaminating the city’s groundwater, according to the World Bank, and almost 700 people have contracted cholera since June. The failure to maintain existing treatment plants has rendered them unusable, while a lack of political will means there’s little prospect of any immediate improvement.
Accra’s problems are an example of how external investment and good intentions often aren’t enough to make a difference in Africa. As many as seven out of 10 people in sub-Saharan Africa have no access to flush or chemical toilets or latrines, according to the World Bank.
Feces everywhere?
Then if Ebola gets to India [where they shit EVERYWHERE] and parts of China (where they will let kids shit in the road), those countries will be screwed.
Meanwhile, Bill Gates, the most enlightened man who ever lived, ploughs another squillion dollars into vaccination programs.
Separating people and their shit does a whole lot more for human health than any vaccines. But it just ain't profitable enough. If that shit-recycling company in the story was called Bayer, or Monsanto, then things would be different. They would be MADE to be profitable.

We've been in Twilight Zone territory for a long time now, but peeps should definitely stock up if they haven't already. And while ebola is a serious threat, one can't help but wonder about the lack of recent news re: happenings in Ukraine, Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, Gaza...
How are you cats handling water storage?
By my math a gallon of water weights about 8.34 lbs. A 55-gallon drum of water weighs about 458lbs.
A person needs about 55 gallons of water a month as bare minimum.
A six-month storage of water per person weighs about 2,700 lbs.
Storage of water for four peeps for six month (5.5 tons) will crack the basement foundation after awhile.
Store some, use a purifier to create your own.
The key to prepping is getting the equipment necessary to produce the things you need since its nearly impossible to store up all the food, water and other items.
Yes, water production equipment is what is necessary over a longer term.
Long rain barrels and pool shock
Get dehydrated water
It's about 1/8 the weight and 1/6 the dimensions of liquid water so you can stock way more.
Just add water to rehydrate
Funny,
My 450 gallon hot tub (9 month supply for one) hasnt cracked the slab its set upon.

You flunked 3rd grade multi-step word problems?

He is that woman's specific bunghole. And it types.
55 gallons per month? That is more than 1 gallon per day. Please, that isn't a bare minimum. You can survive EASILY on MUCH LESS. It's better to be over-prepared, but you are being silly. Like others have said, producing or collecting your own clean water is the only long term solution.
Your body needs a gallon a day. Your food needs water (rice, beans, pasta, cooking methods). You do in fact need to bathe every so often.
LL,
WHO says, a minimum of five liters per day per person.
Table 9.3.
http://www.who.int/water_sanitation_health/publications/2011/tn9_how_muc...
ready.gov says, a minimum of one gallon per person per day with conditions:
To determine your water needs, take the following into account:
One gallon of water per person per day, for drinking and sanitation.
Children, nursing mothers and sick people may need more water.
A medical emergency might require additional water.
If you live in a warm weather climate more water may be necessary. In very hot temperatures, water needs can double.
Keep at least a three-day supply of water per person.

You can only eat bushmeat on the isle of Lesbo.
Shouldnt the quotes in the title be around "American" and not "sick"? No one who truly is from/loves this country (or what it used to be) would travel to that shithole with the outbreak going on. Wife was asked to travel to Nigeria last week, she said no and if thats an issue give me two minutes to type up my letter of resignation...ended up doing a video conference...
Agreed. Medicine and public health have become infested with politics and basic principles have been abandoned. Why are we not banning travel to/from this part of the world or at least screening passengers OVER THERE before allowing them on a plane???? I do not think Africa is a shithole but I think a lot of our "leaders" are shitheads.
Probably because people were of the mindset that it didn't spread out last time like it has this time. Last few times it was contained in Africa and died out relatively quickly.
This time it was different.
And, as is generally the case, Obama and his administration have been caught with their pants down quite literally.
Nothing to see here, Columbus is one of the CDC satellite offices.Your government loves you.
Woohoo! I'm just Northeast of Cleveland. Anybody familiar with Montagraph on youtube he has a new video out on his other channel. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cB-KZLyn-7Y They already know how to cure this. Now will we get the medicine if needed?
As for Mrs Writebol, is she going to skip into the isolation room and pirouette after a perfect dismount from the ambulance or merely saunter in like the other doctor which defies all protocol of medical transfer?
Probably several people in the US already infected with Ebola. If they don't get a handle on it now it will get a lot worse with winter coming. It will blend in with symptoms from the flu.
I don't know that it can survive in cold temperatures.
I do know, however that when I went to the ER with meningitis (no insurance, thanks obama) I told them my symptoms and sat in a crowded waiting room and triage for over 4 hours before they made me put a mask on to prevent infecting people. Those kind of cases are real low priority in our increasingly crowded emergency rooms and get no special attention.
I was in the ER at Stanford a few days ago. Kids knife-fighting again. Penetrating abdo wound, leaves a nice scar on a 4-year old. Big signs up saying it's Flu Season, wear a mask, and security types going around enforcing it.
It's not fucking flu season.
When I went inside, the RN's and doc's were not wearing masks. Only the peeps in the waiting room.
No idea what that all means.
Ebola hates the cold.
I am really amazed at how many Phd Microbiologists and MDs specializing in tropical diseases post here on ZH and make all sorts of proclamations about 'the breakout'. They let us know what will happen and when . . . and (from their comments) without actually viewing any of the patients that are supposed to be involved.
Quite amazing. There must be two or three dozen of these very qualified experts on ZH . . . .
or not.
If you get Ebola might as well go on a shooting spree because you are being murdered.
Just say'in.
By the time you know you have it, you are incopacitated.
I read it here, the article about maybe the reason they were bringing the two health care workers from Africa to the U.S. was because it was already here. Yep. It is.
I'd handicap this being a 'Summer of Sam' or 'DC Sniper' type distraction where a few die but millions temporarily tune in to watch the spectacle. If Ebola did take hold in a US city it would be the event of the century, as big or bigger than WW2 or WW1.
Obama virus has you bleeding from your wallet for 8 years.
Ebola-in-chief.
I thought that was called the wife and family.
Will "Ebola" replace the long, cold winter as the latest excuse for a sagging economy?
It makes perfect sense for “Ebola” to be the new “cold winter” because after all, who will go out and spend spend spend if they’re afraid of contracting Ebola?
In short, I’m wondering just how long it will be before we hear Ebola mentioned on CNBC, CNN, Fox News, The New York Times and elsewhere as the excuse to slash GDP forecasts, earnings estimates, and employment predictions.
Over/under, two weeks?

The new slogan of what's left of the former U.S.A; "What's deadly for the rest of the country is good for big pharma".
Anyone notice how there has been no forthcoming news on the results of Ebola tests conducted on individuals in Western countries? E.g. Individual who died in London at airport, individual in NYC, etc. It should be criminal for the govt to keep basic info from people. Citizens have a right to that info so they can make informed decisions; e.g. to forgo air travel, or forgo going to a certain location, etc.
An informed public? What kind of lunatic are you?
/sarc
it's your patriotic duty to board planes and buy shit.
Head of CDC "argues it’s unlikely people sick with Ebola with board planes, because the symptoms are so debilitating." Um, but you can carry the disease for 21 days before symptoms appear. So either you're a complete dunderhead, Mr. CDC, or you think we're all idiots. (He opposes suspending flights from stricken African countries, meanwhile, British Airways has suspended flights.)

Global Pandemic and its effects. You have 14 days before TSHTF. The Ebola exponential curve is already steeply ascending. As the slope steepens even more, the likelyhood that it can be stopped is small to nil.
Don't say you haven't been warned.

What was the sign for that ebola-tester manufacturing company again....
Never thought of buying stawks but....never mind, what's the use.
Or perhaps i can become rich beyond ebola ?
One is TKMR, other is CONX and finally CLX. Allergan makes the cigarette infused cure for D'bola. 3M may not be bad either as they make masks and latex gloves.
CONX - no one cares yet.
This is getting ridiculous. Sheesh, every time I come back from Europe I have the tummy wimwams.
I can't wait for this thing thing to be a footnote in history. I give it another 6 months.
No, its different this time.
Not like swine flu, bird flu, HIV/AIDs pandemic among heteros, etc, etc, etc
People are so freakin' stupid and run by fear that its no wonder the puppet masters keep using the same game plan each time.
Uh. They said she made a miraculous recovery after getting the secret serum. That picture looks like she's strapped to a gurney. Also looks like the cdc is treating this as airborne judging by respiratory suits.
Airborne? Funny, their web site tells health care workers to take droplet/contact precautions.
If it IS airborne, then it's goodnight all front-line health care workers.
No one has a fuckin' clue anyway. I picked up a positive-pressure HEPA filter pump for blowing clean air into my helmet a few weeks ago, PAPA I think it's called, a TB patient, and noticed that some sort of bung was missing from the side. It was pumping unfiltered air from the environment straight into my helmet. Don't know how many people used it before me, and didn't notice.
Goodnight healthcare workers.
Preps, preps and more freakin' preps.
Shit, i already have day 11 signs. brain damage and bleeding from my anus.
I am doomed.
