Russian Defense Minister Tells Troops "To Be In State Of Constant Battle Readiness"
Having discussed his view that the Ukraine government is at fault for worsening the conflict, Russia's Putin explained to Angela Merkel that a "rising civilian toll has created a humanitarian crisis in Ukraine." However, it was Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu's comments that "the world has changed and changed dramatically," demanding that his troops "must be in constant combat readiness," are the most disconcerting as his strong tone in the following clip appears to confirm Poland and NATO's fears.

Sergey Shoigu, Russia's Defense Minister said that "Peacekeeping units should be in a state of constant battle readiness."
He added: "The world has changed, and has changed dramatically. As you know from previous examples, including in the brigade, peacekeeping units can be activated without warning."
After checking the 15th motorized rifle brigade of peacekeeping forces, the defense minister said that now all peacekeeping brigades are staffed exclusively by contractors, reported "Interfax".
Meanwhile, the humanitarian crisis in eastern Ukraine is getting worse by the day. Today the problems of those who are located in the eastern Ukraine zone where the Ukrainian army has been dispatched was discussed at an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council.
According to recent reports, the casualties of the conflict now amount to 1,400 people, with more than four thousand injured. In addition, about 300,000 people have fled their homes.

I wouldn't want to live in Russia, but I am increasingly embarrassed to live in the United States. Some people on ZH might be Putin ass-kissers, but I'm not one of them. I simply observe the facts. And last I checked, Russia isn't the one shelling towns and killing civilians in east Ukraine. So on that point, I've concluded Russia is a bit more "right" in this instance than the Kiev puppet government.
(And please don't bring up MH17. We still don't know where the ATC recordings are, which is odd to say the least.)

By the time the first Chechen campaign erupted the share of Russians diminished drastically due to hostility on behalf of "freedom loving" radical islam driven separatists. Besides, before this campaign there had been several Chechen terrorist attacks on the Russian territory. I wonder what you would have done considering the circumstances? After the 1st Chechen war, Yeltsin granted Chechnya virtually complete autonomy within the RF. The ruling coalition of (secular) Chechen nationalists and Islamists was wracked by endless acrimony. The secular head of the government (Aslan Maskhadov) sought to appease his Islamist coalition partners by appointinh the Islamic extremist (and terrorist) Shamil Basaev to the post of vice premier. The radicals pushed through a sharia law regime, which did not go over well in Moscow, which had no intention of having parallel legal sysetms on the soil of the RF.
After the 2nd Chechen war, Russia, by then under V. V,. Putin, organized a referendum on a new consitution for Chechnya granting it autonomy within the RF. Although there were no Western observers in the field, the Arab League and the Islamic Conference declared the vote "democratic and free."
It should be noted that General Dudaev, the secular, nationalist Chechen leader at the time of the 1st Chechen war opposed separatism for Chechnya, a land surrounded on all sides by the RF. Dudaev believed an independent Chechnya would not begin to be a viable state.
Keep in mind that in Eastern Ukraine, V. V. Putin urged locals not to hold the referendum of last May 11th. Once the vote happened the RF said it "respected" the result, but did not say it recognized it. Russia said the same thing about Proshenko's election.
These matters are complex and do not lend themselves to facile comparisons. And there is another dimension to all this: of all of the USA's activism in the world since the end of the Cold War, the US has always targeted Russian friends and clients: Serbia, Iraq, Libya, Syria, now Ukraine. VVP said when he became president: "We Russians will not serve as cannon fodder for the New World Order." That's why he's drawn a line in Ukraine. If he can hold the line, it could presage the unravelling of the US Empire; if not, he could presage the destruction of Russia.
Here's the difference. When Russia behaves badly, we will hear about that on the MSM. So people in the US know what's going on there is criminal. What Kiev is doing to its separatists, however, is being blatantly misrepresented in the US. To be pro-Putin is an over-reaction, but to accept the in-your-face imperial actions of the western powers in Ukraine (remember Joe Biden's son) is inexcusable.

Sanctions are a two way street and both directions lead to war the longer they go on. At some point Putin will get aid to the so called rebels. If nothing else he will position Russian troops in such a way so as to provide protection to the rebel areas. But while Kiev crumbles he is more likely to. Bide his time.
This is the problem with sanctions actually. "They draw people into conflict where in fact there is none." And so we have a war now too? This strikes me as the true "heart" of the conflict.

Today the EU is looking to NATO to help deliver 'humanitarian aid'. Lets see who blinks first. My guess is Russia will react if NATO tries anything otherwise Russia is content to let Ukrainian national suicide take place. Russia knows it is not in their interest to provoke NATO in anyway and Russia is willing to wait and Europe will freeze. Soon cold weather will begin in the Ukraine and it is difficult to get the grain crops off when your in a state of civil war. Expect wheat and other grains to go up in price. There will be no fuel shortages in Russia or China.
