Russian Defense Minister Tells Troops "To Be In State Of Constant Battle Readiness"

Tyler Durden's picture

Having discussed his view that the Ukraine government is at fault for worsening the conflict, Russia's Putin explained to Angela Merkel that a "rising civilian toll has created a humanitarian crisis in Ukraine." However, it was Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu's comments that "the world has changed and changed dramatically," demanding that his troops "must be in constant combat readiness," are the most disconcerting as his strong tone in the following clip appears to confirm Poland and NATO's fears.

Putin's conversation with Merkel...

Russian President Vladimir Putin, German Chancellor Angela Merkel spoke by phone, exchanged views on “intensifying crisis situation” in Ukraine, Kremlin says in e-mailed statement.

*PUTIN TELLS MERKEL UKRAINE GOVT AT FAULT FOR WORSENING CONFLICT

Putin says “real political dialogue” needed between authorities in Kiev and representatives of rebels

Offensive by Ukrainian forces in southeast leads to mounting civilian toll, humanitarian problems: Putin

Shoigu starts talking (in Russian) at around 30 second mark, clip includes coverage of the military drills that are under way...

Excerpted Transcript (via NTV),

Sergey Shoigu, Russia's Defense Minister said that "Peacekeeping units should be in a state of constant battle readiness."

He added: "The world has changed, and has changed dramatically. As you know from previous examples, including in the brigade, peacekeeping units can be activated without warning."

After checking the 15th motorized rifle brigade of peacekeeping forces, the defense minister said that now all peacekeeping brigades are staffed exclusively by contractors, reported "Interfax".

Meanwhile, the humanitarian crisis in eastern Ukraine is getting worse by the day. Today the problems of those who are located in the eastern Ukraine zone where the Ukrainian army has been dispatched was discussed at an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council.

According to recent reports, the casualties of the conflict now amount to 1,400 people, with more than four thousand injured. In addition, about 300,000 people have fled their homes.

"Prepare for the unexpected," Shoigu concludes...

You say the Russian Defense Minister's "strong tone in the following clip appears to confirm Poland and NATO's fears."

Sorry, it is the actions of the US, its support and direction of Kiev's ethnic cleansing of Eastern Ukraine, which are confirming Russia'a worst fears.

All we get is f**king propaganda for news, demonization of Russia based upon insinuation and transparent lies, which go unquestioned in the corporate media, which acts as a ministry of propaganda for Washington.

Please don't compliment it with more BS on zero hedge!

i'll remind you that the 'seperatists' were once ukrainian armed forces, and together with ukrainian nationals residing in eastern ukraine, are resisting the west backed coup that created the now in power kiev junta. so in essence, the 'rebels' got their weapons from the ukrainian armed forces.

what could more acurately be described as a civil war in eastern ukraine is being sold as a conflict between east and west by the msm

"west backed coup"

What is your basis for these allegations ?

Do you really believe that these rebels would last that long if they were really up to Kiev + the West ( whatever that is according to you, USA + EU ? ) and without Russian support ?  The area these rebels are controlling is tiny ( I do not take Crimea into account ).

So either the so called West is at best only marginally involved and Russians are not, or the West is really involved and the Russians as well.  Which one is it ?  There is actually a not very likely third possibility in my opinion : US is more or less double dealing, a kind of divide et impera strategy.  ( I hope this scenario is not too complex for you to consider.  If it is, just stick with the 'rebels good, Kiev and West bad' paradigm and you will be good on Zerohedge )

Ok sorry folks, this was a botched up attempt at logical analysis.  Skip it. ( as you would :-) )

Another pathetic attempt at finding reality by logical reasoning :

Basic point I guess is that the forces backing the respective sides in this conflict are so overwhelming, that only some symmetry in involvement of these forces can explain the lack of fast moving developments on the ground. In other words : claiming that the West is heavily involved and Russia is not or vice versa is inconsistent with lack of fast developments.  Or we are in a completely different game with US kind of double dealing ( not likely ).

There might be some arms from Russia, but most have been captured from Ukrainian forces and weapons depots.  Folks like you tend to neuter the forces of Donbas in order tio villify Russia.  But the truth is that the self-defense forces of Donbas, though small numerically, are dedicated and resourceful fighters who in spite of being heavilly outnumbered and underarmed, are beating the shit out of the Ukrainian forces wherever they meet.  Of course, unless Russia does intervene militarilly, they will likely lose as they are faced with a full army that has huge support - but not without having given the Nazis in Kiev a good scare.  Of course, if they can last until winter, then all bets are off the table - Kiev will be in deep, deep trouble, and even the army might turn on them.

Yes, noticed. Could be a translating glitch, or could play to the theory of 'rollout' of private corporate armies to replace public corporate armies (eg Corporation of DC masquarading as reps of 'we the people'). First as 'operational theatre' for the masses, then permanised globally. Ukraine/Donbass is another beta test. Kolomoisky has one, albeit as a 'regional govenor'. Why not the Russians going Blackwater/Academi also? Seems to be part of the shift away from 'public ownership' to broader 'private ownership', as much as the big US corps buying back their own shares with free Fed $.

Now, you all know that I support Ukraine.  But I have to wonder about this Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu.

It is NOT wise or effective to demand extended or lengthy periods of "full battle readiness". That is just poor generalship.  It fatigues the troops and ultimately undermines the perceived seriousness of future orders.

My two cents.

Is the bitch Hillory Cliton going to Kiev to get her picture taken with Nazis?  Where is the Israeli bitch Nuland now, when her revolution is heading for the rocks? Why has the USA media fallen silent about the AirLiner shoot down now that pictures of the plane's body riddled with Su-25 30mm cannon rounds are all over the internet?  The Canadian observer, one of the first on site is now on public record as describing the body of the cockpit full of 30mm cannon shell holes, all aimed at the pilots? I know a BUK missile does not aim for the cockpit, it either goes for an engine or explodes at a distance shredding the whole plane with jagged shrapnel.

I believe that anyone who claims they can use any machine gun made on planet earth  at a distance of 3000m to make holes a few inches apart when both target and firing platform are moving is full of shit.

A difference of humity, an eddy of wind, a goose fart, all of those things will move a bullet more than an 1 foot at 3000m of distance - when target and shooter are stationary.

To do it at 550MPH while both are moving?  BULLSHIT.

BULLSHIT.

I went and looked at the photos and holes he is talking about.  Firstly they are not round.  Secondly, they are spaced a couple of inches apart.

At a distance of 3000 meters a ground based 30MM cannon firing at a stationary target has greater dispersion than that. I invite you to visit a military range where such things are tested, and see for yourself.

Let's ignore that the SU25 isn't fast enough to make strafing runs on MH17 because its MAXIMUM UNLOADED speed is less than MH17s Cruising speed.

Let's just ignore that for a moment.

Is it physically possible to make that tight of a pattern using any machine gun of any caliber, at any rate of fire, mounted on a moving vehicle, while shooting at another moving vehicle from a distance of 3000 meters?  No it is not possible.  A single eddy of wind will move a bullet several feet over 3000m distance.

The conclusion from the so-called "expert" is pure bullshit and totally transparent to anyone who shoots guns.

Nightmarish World War II memories linger in Moscow, Ukrainian neo-fascists were among those who seized control in the new government in Kiev yet the U.S. rushed to give its blessing to what the Kremlin later described as a "coup d'etat". Sergei Lavrov, the Russian Foreign Minister, reflected these worries when he voiced "most serious concern" over Ukraine in phone calls to the French, German and Polish foreign ministers. The EU, knowing this was what Washington wanted did nothing.

Regardless of who shot down the plane the Russians are furious at what they see happening in Ukraine. Don't hold your breath for Putin to back-off or back-down, he has put down his marker and is now playing both Obama and Kerry for fools in a contest that cost Russia little. It is likely that if If Putin doesn't get Eastern Ukraine next week he will next month or next year at the latest. More on this subject in the article below.

Of course they are.

And the whole past thousand years of discontent between the part of Ukraine which avoided domination by the Khan, and the part that didn't  - all that needs to be swept under the rug and forgotten so that Russians can imagine that Ukrainians pushing back against Russian domination are just puppets of the West.

I am not saying that they are doing it the right way.  I am saying that to imagine all of this is the result of recent Western interventions is totally false, obviously false.

And to asset that it is all a result of recent interventions flies in the face of history, flies in the face of reality, and is fundamentally dishonest.

The fact is that the Ukrainian language was forbidden - IN UKRAINE - FOR CENTURIES.

Now some Ukrainians want to make Russian illegal.  And Russia wants to imagine that the West created that Ukrainian resentment of Russians.

Who is whitewashing their history to pretend they are without fault?

The US and EU have no place dictating in Ukraine.

I don't think bears have morals - they simply want their just food due and react violently when they are threatened.

I would never defend the Russian Bear's actions in crushing Chechnya in order to kill a few hundred terrorists - it was massive brutal overkill.

But when a stupid arrogant ASSHOLE goes into bear territory just to antagonize it, and gets swiped across the face with the claws, don't ask me to have ANY sympathy for that idiot. The U.S. and Europe have been doing just that since the mid-1990s, and they've been asking for it, and now they're going to get what's coming to them. That's justice, and I applaud it.

While you're documenting the innocents slaughtered by Russia, don't forget all the innocents slaughtered by the U.S. and Europe in Iraq and GhannyLand and Libya and......

Literally 100s of thousands of non-combatants slaughtered and maimed - for what? In the name of what? Why do you evidently give the West a pass on all that blood-letting that was really all about greedy geopolitical interests - NOT ABOUT DEMOCRACY as the priests of war would have you believe! The West doesn't give a stinking DAMN about the people - it only uses so-called democratic ideology as cover for their greedy geopolitical conquests. generally, i as i see it there are two separate issues being merged into one for 'economy'

the situation ukraine finds itself in and the situation russia finds itself in

the msm conveniently make no distinction; russia is responsible for the situation in ukraine (inc. mh17), and thus directly responsible for the situation it finds itself in (a 'pariah' state worthy of sanctioning) - cause and effect.

this coincides with the 'official' views of the EU, US and Oceanic states, like Australia and NZ.

the 'who' that is ultimately responsible for the mess that is ukraine (specifically, eastern ukraine) is obvious and well documented, and it isn't the russians. further, the kiev junta themselves were certainly instrumental in bringing down mh17.

russia has been positioned so as to be on the receiving end of one of the greatest propaganda campaigns thus far in the 21st century. russia, so far, has played the game and played it very cool. the question however remains: with the ukrainian situation getting worse and the pressure on russia increasing, will there be a tipping point?

Let's never forget that the Kiev Junta or the Ukraine situation, came to power by the persistance of an obstinate mob of 200,000.

200,000 out of a population of 45,000,000.

A mob, we know now, which was organized by Svoboda, Pravy Sektor, and the Nuland Nazis.

But the speed with which the new Kievan government was fondled, licked and petted by Washington, London and Brussels was breathtaking.

while there were indeed several groups in that "mob", the very fact that they were 200'000 shows that there was widespread malcontent

I find it distasteful to use the "mob" and "riot" terms so dear to our American cousins for a prolonged demonstration of political discontent, however doubtful the various little and not-so-little "me-too" groups within were

what did the demonstrators want first? the Ukrainian Prez to resign

why did the demonstrators want the Ukrainian Prez to resign? corruption

how was the corruption of that man made so blatant? the way he was treating trade pacts with either Russia or the EU dependent on how much he would gain personally

so without taking parts either for the US, the EU countries or Russia: Ukrainians were, generally speaking, very pissed about their government, and this was very visible in the persistance of those obstinate 200'000

It shows nothing of the sort.

Privy Sektor and Svoboda could have organized half of the mob and the other half were bought by Victoria Nuland's $5 billion

I would like to see America show a bit more gravitas and influence in foreign matters, but not this time around. I saw this weakness in leadership in another time. When I was in Vietnam. If you dont have a Patton and a president to back him up. Best keep your mouth shut.

I gave you the only up arrow, because you make a good point: when push comes to shove you need a big, fast fist.

However, push should come to shove about once every 100 years and certainly not every other week somewhere in the world as we are now acting. The military you so appreciate has become - without a doubt - the enforcement arm of the oligarchs who run America. As such, we can only hope and pray for its defeat.

Winter IS coming ... tick tock

Energy costs in Europe exploding

Russia's most reliable ally to date is Mr. Winter... each and every time Russia is about to be defeated. Winter comes out swinging for Russia's benefit. NATO can't make a move if Russia cuts off all energy supply to Europe during the winter.

What about "vulnerable" countries like Lithuania, who have LPG terminals capable of supplying them with an entire YEARS worth of gas coming on line BEFORE winter? Oh, winter isn't (hasn't been) what it was in central/northern europe years ago... remember, GEOGRAPHICALLY speaking, Lithuania is actually the center of continental europe.

And such countries (as Lithuania and Poland) are NATO/EU allies, and are subject to the dramatically reduced gas prices that the US offers to it's "friends". Gas prices so low, feeding the "bread and butter" that Moscow/Gazprom have already figured into their budgets.

Klaipeda (LT), Swinoujscie (PL), two huge terminals to come on line this year, in Russia-dependent regions.

Even, in a worst case scenario, Romania is still a huge EU refinery that can filled up with (GASP!) Iranian oil.

And such countries (as Lithuania and Poland) are NATO/EU allies, and are subject to the dramatically reduced gas prices that the US offers to it's "friends".

You might want to try visiting reality before you freeze to death. First, the US is a net importer of natural gas. Second, the US currently has no LNG export facilities to supply Europe. Third, if the US is ever actually able to sell LNG to Europe, it will be at a much higher price than the gas from Russia.

Gas prices so low, feeding the "bread and butter" that Moscow/Gazprom have already figured into their budgets.

Your vivid fantasies will not heat your home. You'll learn that the hard way soon enough.

Klaipeda (LT), Swinoujscie (PL), two huge terminals to come on line this year, in Russia-dependent regions.

If those terminals are waiting for exports from the US, they'd better have enough firewood and coal to keep them warm this winter.

Even, in a worst case scenario, Romania is still a huge EU refinery that can filled up with (GASP!) Iranian oil.

Only if they buy that Iranian oil from the Russians. In a worst case scenario, you'll learn what happens to those who depend on promises from US politicians as you freeze to death.

"300,000 Ukranians have been displaced from their homes."

If these were 3 JEWS in Israel, Congress would provide an illegal, supermassive aid package, and Obama would have Kerry's freakenstein ass on the next available Air Force 2 headed straight for Tel Aviv.

But since these are white people, fuck em'... nothing is done on their behalf.

They don't matter. Only the christ killing goblins are of importance.

"christ killing goblins"

Can't find that reference in scripture.  The Word does tells us that He died and resurrected for our sins.  Yours and mine.  Even today, we kill and torture Him to death in that garden, at that post, under those thorns, and on that tree.

I'm no fan of Israel or its recalcitrant Tribe, but let's not make a blasphemous crusade in His name of this.

A bit more on the search around MH17

Another quote from the Dutch Prime Minister. So much for all the MSN 'slander' at the time, my emphasis, that's the 'rebels' searching!

The Netherlands' prime minister has halted the search for remains of victims of the Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 disaster in Ukraine, saying it is too dangerous to continue... found remains of only a few victims, despite expectations it might find as many as 80.

Rutte said that it now appears "fortunately that more was done after the disaster than we thought until now." Local Ukrainian authorities carried out "an intensive search in the area with 800 volunteers, and there were many bodies recovered in those (first) days," he said.

Go watch videos of SU-25s attack ground targets with their 30mm gun.

Watch how bullets impact all around the target, several feet apart.

Note that the SU-25 is less than ONE km from target when he fires.

Note that the SU-25 is firng at LOW SPEED.

Note that the target is moving slowly or not at all.

Now explain to me how an SU-25 can make the same bullets from the same gun impact within inches of one another while traveling 550MPH, at a distance of AT LEAST (according to Russian Radar) 3KM.

BULLSHIT.  TOTALLY TRANSPARENT LIES.  Next they will tell us that Ukrainian SU-25s have warp engines and transporters to beam them instantly in front of MH17.

Which brings up a good point.

Russian radar shows the aircraft situated behind MH17 when MH17 disappears.

So, how did the holes get to be in MH17's cockpit at the front of the plane?

Magic bullets?

The bullets approached MH17 from the rear, then accelerated and flew at 90 degrees to go around the air frame so that they could shoot the cockpit from a perpendicular angle?

Were the bullets really, really angry?  Were they cunning bullets?  Did they too have transporters to transport them throught the rest of the aircraft so they could hit perpenducular to the cockpit?  Perhaps the gremlins transported them.

Sure.

When monkeys fly outta my butt.

This assertion has departed from any semblance of reality that it is no longer worth discussing.

Someon who is actually prepared to believe such bullshit despite little things like evidence, the laws of physics, Geometry, etc is prepared to believe anything they are told.  They are beyond reason.
