Iraq Airstrikes Begin Despite Warning ISIS Retaliation Could Put Baghdad Underwater

Tyler Durden's picture

Pentagon Press Secretary Admiral John Kirby confirms:

  • *U.S. MILITARY AIRCRAFT STRIKE ISLAMIC STATE ARTILLERY: PENTAGON
  • *STRIKE CONDUCTED BY 2 F-18A AIRCRAFT DROPPING 500 LB BOMBS
  • *U.S. CONDUCTED AIRSTRIKE IN IRAQ AT 6:45 EASTERN: PENTAGON

We anxiously await ISIS' response which - as the State Department warns "could leave Mosul under 100 feet of water."

The aistrikes begin...

The retaliation awaits...

As we first warned about the Dam over the weekend...

According to Al Arabia it is this "weakest link" that is now in play after ISIS took over Iraq's biggest dam unopposed by Kurdish fighters, who also lost three towns and an oilfield on Sunday to the Sunni militant group, witnesses said cited by Reuters.

Iraqi security officials said Wednesday that fighters for the
Islamic State in Iraq and Syria were advancing on the Haditha Dam, the
second-largest in Iraq.

VOA confirms:

Islamic State fighters seized control of Iraq's biggest dam, an oilfield and two more towns on Sunday after inflicting their first major defeat on Kurdish forces since sweeping through the region in June

Local officials said militants with the extremist group Islamic State took control of the towns of Zumar and Sinjar near the city of Mosul on Sunday, waging fierce clashes with Kurdish forces.

The French news agency AFP quoted a United Nations spokesman saying 200,000 people have fled Sinjar and said there are grave concerns for their safety.

It gets worse: control of the dam could give ISIS, which has threatened to march on Baghdad, the ability to flood major cities.

*  *  *

And if Baghdad does indeed fall, all those recent Crude shorts will be less than happy.

Yawn...  It's not like the USA's / Saudi's evil sprog ISIS started doing naughty things yesterday.  The loons have been slaughtering people, beheading infidels, and blowing shit up for a couple of months.

There must be some bad news for the USA coming out of MH17 investigation in the next couple of days.  Or perhaps the Isrealis need more MSM cover so they can get even nastier in Gaza and finish their ethnic clensing job. Or perhaps, the timing of the ISIS strikes is cover for both.  Now that would be an efficient use of taxpayer money

Deflect.   Wag-the-dag.  Yeah baby.

Meh, it will fall to pieces, the world will wring its hands, and in the end pay the US to go back, stabilize the country, and start the whole thing all over again.

It might be a crooked game, but its the only one in town.

yes indeed Microdrones with needles! Want to start a company? Been thinking about this a while now. Flocks of drones with curare tipped needle bullets (a slow death by suffocation) from a distance fly them in and take the enemy out one by one in scores.

Funny thing with ISIS is that at least in the past, "terrorist" groups were given a history, leaders etc. Our masters have now seen that this is not neccesary at all.

Just mentioning that there is some kind of terrorist group, and giving it a name (which seems to change every month) is enough to have us believe it's true.

So, the USA is conquering the Middle East, without any objections, inquiries, resistance. Only when they pull big shit, like stuff you can see from satellites (bombings etc) they give us a heads up.

If you want to know why ISIS doesn't attack Israel, now you know: why would the US army attack Israel?

Syriah will fall, the Palestinians will be exterminated, Egypt will be submitted, so that Qatar, SA and Israel can sit around the table and claim victory.

ok, so i work in the oil patch. i want iraq to produce oil. not sure why some of you assholes keep down voting me - someone is going to get this oil and it may as well be the US instead of the Chinese or the fucking ISIL Zombie Hordes. I swear, some people think the world revolves on pixie dust or some shit. the US should just be up front and callous and take the oil. With regards to the latter, unless you want your kids buying oil from guys who will make the Saudis seem like missionaries do yourself a favor and support MOAR bombing (seriously). Wipe ISIL off the earth.

That said, (2) 500 pounders from a couple of F-18s on a clapped out f350 towing a field gun isn't what i had in mind....i imagined they would have at least brought in a few b-52s from Diego Garcia.

Fuck. Can Obama do anything right?

To secure the nation’s streets and borders in the immediate future, Israel can:

  • Work closely with Turkey and Jordan to contain, destabilize, and roll-back some of its most dangerous threats. This implies clean break from the slogan, "comprehensive peace" to a traditional concept of strategy based on balance of power.
  • ....Israel can shape its strategic environment, in cooperation with Turkey and Jordan, by weakening, containing, and even rolling back Syria. This effort can focus on removing Saddam Hussein from power in Iraq — an important Israeli strategic objective in its own right — as a means of foiling Syria’s regional ambitions. Jordan has challenged Syria's regional ambitions recently by suggesting the restoration of the Hashemites in Iraq. This has triggered a Jordanian-Syrian rivalry to which Asad has responded by stepping up efforts to destabilize the Hashemite Kingdom, including using infiltrations. Syria recently signaled that it and Iran might prefer a weak, but barely surviving Saddam, if only to undermine and humiliate Jordan in its efforts to remove Saddam.
  • Clean Break
  • Richard Perle, American Enterprise Institute, Study Group Leader

James Colbert, Jewish Institute for National Security Affairs
Charles Fairbanks, Jr., Johns Hopkins University/SAIS
Douglas Feith, Feith and Zell Associates
Robert Loewenberg, President, Institute for Advanced Strategic and Political Studies
Jonathan Torop, The Washington Institute for Near East Policy
David Wurmser, Institute for Advanced Strategic and Political Studies
    Meyrav Wurmser, Johns Hopkins University

They did not care if Iraq turned into a smoldering mess.  For that matter, they didn't even care about the goyim golem of Team America enough to plant some WMDs there for them to find in order to justify the whole thing for veterans of their war and the pet (scape) goat of 911, W.  After all, they just don't care about any of the tribes/goyim but their own.

The process of creating a war based on lies:

Passing off a threat against Israel as though it were a threat against the United States is a trick to which Netanyahu had no need to be converted ; he has been employing it since the 1980s to rally Americans alongside Israel in the “international war on terrorism,” a concept which he can claim to have invented in his books International Terrorism: Challenge and Response ( 1982 ) and Terrorism: How the West can Win ( 1986 ). In An End to Evil (2003), Richard Perle and David Frum likewise work the semantics to embed the fears of the Israelis into the minds of Americans, when for example they urge Americans to “end this evil before it kills again and on a genocidal scale. There is no middle way for Americans: It is victory or holocaust.” [374] It is, however, impossible for anyone to be consistently hypocritical, and it happens eventually that some neoconservative recklessly opens his thoughts to the public. Philip Zelikow, Counselor to Condoleezza Rice and Executive Director of the 9/ 11 Commission, said about the Iraqi threat during a conference at the University of Virginia September 10, 2002: “Why would Iraq attack America or use nuclear weapons against us? I’ll tell you what I think the real threat is and actually has been since 1990: it’s the threat against Israel. And this is the threat that dare not speak its name, because the Europeans don’t care deeply about that threat, I will tell you frankly. And the American government doesn’t want to lean too hard on it rhetorically, because it is not a popular sell.” [375] That’s really it in a nutshell: the United States must be led to make war with the enemies of Israel, and in order to that, Americans must be convinced that Israel’s enemies are America’s enemies. In addition, it is necessary that the Americans believe that these enemies hate America for what it claims to represent (i.e. democracy , freedom, etc.), not because of its support for Israel. The signatories of the PNAC letter to President Bush on April 3, 2002 (including William Kristol, Richard Perle, Daniel Pipes, Norman Podhoretz, Robert Kagan, and James Woolsey) go as far as claiming that the Arab world hates Israel because it is a friend of the United States, rather than the reverse: “No one should doubt that the United States and Israel share a common enemy. We are both targets of what you have correctly called an ‘Axis of Evil.’ Israel is targeted in part because it is our friend, and in part because it is an island of liberal, democratic principles— American principles— in a sea of tyranny, intolerance, and hatred.” [376]

ISIS, Al-Qaeda, Al-CIA-duh, whatever names they are given, all "Wag The Dog" mercenaries funded and trained by the CIA to either overthrow governments or destabilize (and indiscriminately murder for effect) to keep them dysfunctional while they are being looted or being set up for geopolitical purposes.

Wash, rinse, repeat ad nauseam throughout the World, you'd think people would get the drift, but no, they prefer being propagandized.

But I read reports that isis wasn't on the dam yet and just posting poorly photshopped images. Some Kurdish bigwig was supposedly visiting there this morning. Apparently not, because if the state department says so, it must be true..(wait..eeuh..).

That is bad news but I can see how liberating their villages is more important to peshmerga than keeping malikis feet dry.

I'm not sure if isis will take that step though. They'll drown more of their own territory than anybody else's and lose all tribal support. That alliance is already fragile.

Putin's letting the U.S. pay the price in Iraq - remember when Russia couldn't do anything to stop the invasions? Well they knew it would turn out bad for the U.S. and were just waiting for today.

So once the place is screwed enough, Russia and Iran will come in and pick up the pieces by helping the anti-Western govt get on its feet and grant Russia all the oil rights it wants. All the while the U.S. and Barumph Obola will stand by and wring their hands.

Russia's gaining an arc across the Middle East that it can control without military invasion. The Great Game is on, and Obola-checkers just won't do against Putin.

This is how alienating Russia and starting Cold War II works out for you.

IS are nihilists. Expect nihilists to be nililists and fuck everthing and everyone up for some imaginary thing or the man in the clouds. Nihilists have never added to human culture or productivity other than the fact that they need to be stopped and that is something the 'folks' who promote perpetual war are not willing to do. The Obummer syndicate and the Fed are also nihilists of a different flavor, they are more interested in financial nihilism vs. religious nihilism, it occurs to me that its a match made on Earth.
