Military Coup In Iraq: Prime Minister Maliki Refuses To Step Down; Security Forces On Alert, Encircle Presidential Palace

Tyler Durden's picture

Just days after the US launched a campaign that implicitly aides the current regime headed by the supposedly outgoing PM, al-Maliki, it appears that latest US intervention has already led to "unexpected" consequences, this time with the prime minister appearing to have just staged a coup overthrowing Iraq's president President Fouad Massoum moments ago.

Reuters reports that the prime minister "indicated that he will not drop his bid for a third term and accused the president of violating the constitution in a tough televised speech likely to deepen political tensions as a Sunni insurgency rages. Maliki, seen as an authoritarian and sectarian leader, has defied calls by Sunnis, Kurds, some fellow Shi'ites and regional power broker Iran to step aside for a less polarising figure who can unite Iraqis against Islamic State militants.

The days of Iraq's president appear numbered:

Bloomberg adds that Maliki says he’s going to federal court to sue President Fouad Masoum for violating the constitution, according to comments made to Iraqi state television. President Masoum in breach when he extended constitutional period for chosing a candidiate to form government and for missing deadline for new period, according to Maliki. Maliki adds that Masoum is in a "coup against the poilitical process” that would lead “Iraq into a dark tunnel.” Maliki warned Presidential council, parliament and federal court about Masoum.

The news has promptly led the WaPo Beirut chief correspondent Liz Sly to ask the question: did Baghdad just have a coup 3 days after the US conducted its fourth military intervention under as many US presidents?

Others are inclined to agree:

And according to less credible sources, the army is already in play:

Odd timing indeed. One thing is certain: the US will not let this crisis go to waste either.

However, what makes this particular development especially interesting is that a very organized ISIS is already doing its best to conquer the Iraq capital. A very disorganized army coup may be all that was needed to facilitate this goal, and to put the Iraq oil trade "in play" once again.

And the worst news of all: Obama two-week vacation on Martha's Vineyard is ruined one day after it started.

This is all the fault of the British who carved up the middle east on the back of a cocktail napkin.

Too bad so many people had to die for a 3 state solution.

We don't have plan, did you say.

Har de har har.

We have a plan alright. But the sheeple are too deep in denial to see it.  It's a rather simple two part plan:

First part  Tell the American peeps there is plenty of oil left for their precious global economy and their precious military EVEN THOUGH THERE ISN'T.

Second part  Gas and nuke up your TWENTY aircraft carriers and send them round the world wherever the place runneth over with black gold. Turn those places into war zones

Embargo and sanction those places you can't get to. Foster revolution where possible.  Aid coups d'etat when necessary.

TRY TO AMASS EVERY LAST DROP OF OIL IN THE PLANET UNDER YOUR CONTROL BECAUSE YOU ARE EXCEPTIONAL AMERICA AND MANIFEST DESTINY TOLD YOU TO FUCK EVERYBODY.

"We" don't have a plan however the 200 or so neocons who dominate US foreign policy have had the same plan since the late 90s: rubble-ize the middle east and split the ruins into little pieces who aren't a threat to Israel.

(Which is actually just a scaled down version of the Wolfowitz doctrine.)

The ultimate false flag now will be for the US to blow up the dam ISIS just took control of, and blame ISIS. This will defeat ISIS as they would be shunned by the world and all Muslims and create a gargantuan distraction for the collapse of the US economy. We're all starting to think like the CIA, FBI or Moassad, this has to be a bad sign.

I wonder if this has been discussed by the rogue state of the USA?

I hear from US "Deep State" sources, that the Kurds will declare an independent state soon, after a referendum in which 90% are expected to vote for a Kurdish independent state and sever ties to Baghdad. The USA is now totally oboard with this and the State department is preparing to use propaganda about the election for statehood to seal the deal. You might note, American plans for the Kurdistan nation mirrors the Russian Federation Plans for Crimea, they are mirror images of eachother. Yet, NATO is prepared to go to war to overturn the Crimean vote. Also, Washington is now arming Kiev to prevent any vote in the east to decalre independence as the Kurds are planning. Again, USA can create a state of Kurdistan, Russia can not create Crimea or Donbass, even though 75-90% of these people voted for independence. These types of votes are considered as grounds for war by NATO. New information out of Kiev is saying that American troops are now on the ground in Kiev is consdierable numbers. Also, NATO troops are in Karkov to secure the airport and to unload arms shipments to Kiev's army. These two facts are listed as confirmed by on the ground intelligence of the Self defense Forces and the Russian Federation.

Of the 700+ Ukie troops who fled to Russia, 6 officers and 12-14 enlisted NCO are being held by Russia to face war crimes trials, the evidence and documents taken by the SDF in their capture of hundreds of Ukie troops give written evidence of use of illegal weapons on civilians. Russia is going ahead with the case, NATO and KIEV will scream like wild dogs over this.

Iraq is being split up into different nations and AMerica is carrying out the creation of a Kurd state. Russia should, in my opinion immediately copy the American plan for Kurdistan and apply it the the entire Donbass. No better time than while America is nation building and nation tearing apart. The USA bombs Iraq to help civilians, Russia should be bombing right now to save Donetsk from NATO artillery and Rocket forces.

no one wants an independent Kurdish state not Iraq, not Turkey, not Iran. if Obama thinks he can push this through he should stick to golf. besides he has one destabilizing influence in the region ISIS or ISIL, what insanity would it be to add another? well just sit around and wait for the caliphate to take over Turkey, and drive the Iranian hardliners back into crackdown mode. the only imaginable reason for doing this would be one to recognize Kurdistan, and promptly set up a US military base to help them defend themselves, (but of course Turkey Iraq and Iran would also be contesting the new borders. sheer fantasy

Where's Christ In
Christian Zionism?

By Harmony Grant
1-7-8

Three in four adult Americans believes Jesus Christ was born of a virgin. Since so many Americans respect the Bible, I wonder why they aren't more jaws dropping over Christians United for Israel (CUFI)--a "Christian" Zionist group that totally lacks Christian priorities.

The following testimonial is from a Jewish student who attended a CUFI rally:

"The room essentially turned into a Mega-Church, with thousands of Christians shouting and praising God, praying for the protection, safety and prosperity of Israel and the Jewish people, and for the destruction of the enemies of America and Israel, while waving American and Israeli flags and listening to the sound of shofars being blasted. And yet the name "Jesus" was not mentioned once the entire night (emphasis mine)By the end of the night I had met so many people who just were hugging me because I was Jewish, giving me their names and asking me to pray for them (emphasis mine), telling me I was blessed by God."

CUFI's head, John Hagee, speaks for a "50-million strong movement". He says his TV and radio ministry reaches 99 million homes.

Hagee's followers believe he preaches a Biblical message toward the Jews. They believe that by sending millions to Israel, they are obeying God's command to "bless" the Jews. It's likely that most of these churchmen and women sincerely believe they're doing the right thing. But they have been so blinded by the platitudes and false premises of Christian Zionism that they can't even recognize Hagee's grave apostasy.

This supposed "Christian leader" believes Jews can be saved without accepting Christ. "I believe that every Jewish person who lives in the light of the Torah, which is the word of God, has a relationship with God and will come to redemption" ["San Antonio fundamentalist battles anti-Semitism," Houston Chronicle, April 30, 1988, sec. 6, pg. 1.].

In his recent book, In Defense of Israel, Hagee went even farther. In an ad for the book, he says shockingly, "Jesus did not come to earth to be the Messiah."

There was outcry over this heresy. Michael Brown, a Jewish Christian and theologian, says Hagee's book explicitly states the following heresies, "The Jewish people, as a whole, did not reject Jesus as Messiah. Jesus did not come to earth to be the Messiah. Jesus refused by word and deed to be the Messiah. The Jews cannot be blamed for not accepting what was never offered." Brown says "some believers and even leaders! are buying into this error hook, line, and sinker, and some have begun to teach and preach it as well."

The Union of Messianic Jewish Congregations responded to Hagee's book with "serious concerns," saying his teachings contradict biblical doctrine, undermine the testimony of Jewish followers of Jesus, and weaken the cause of Christian supporters of the Jewish people.

There was enough controversy over the book that Hagee is releasing a revised edition. He wrote a letter to address the "confusion," saying that while Jesus is the true Messiah, Christians can accept Him as the "suffering Messiah" whereas Jews will not recognize Him until He comes as the "reigning Messiah." We shouldn't judge them for their mistake.

Hagee says he hopes "we can return our focus to what I had anticipated to highlight all along, the fact that we Christians must shift from condemning the Jews for what they missed to thanking them for what they gave."

This emphasis is shared by Hagee's many followers, who increasingly idolize and romanticize Jews and Judaism, exalting Jewish law and Jewish blood perhaps even more than Israeli settlers do!

Blind to Injustice

f Christians can recognize that Hagee is wrong to say Christ is not the Messiah and that Jews do not need His saving redemption, they should also be suspicious of Christian Zionism's other premises. They should take a closer look at the real situation in Israel.

In mid-December, the Red Cross broke its normally neutral silence to speak out on life in Gaza. The Red Cross said no amount of humanitarian aid can solve the crisis, and pled for political action. "In Gaza the whole Strip is being strangled, economically speaking, life there has become a nightmare," said the director of Mideast operations.

But the United States will do nothing to force Israel to dismantle settlements or stop oppressing Palestinians--not while the Israel lobby can exert so much political pressure on Capitol Hill.

The time is long past since Christians should have started analyzing their role in this lobby. American evangelicals should question their reading of the Bible, and their definition of how to "bless" Jews. Listening to John Hagee, you'd think there was just one easy interpretation of the Bible. That's hardly true.

In December, Christian Leaders from the National Council of Churches in Australia visited Israel. Their organization includes 17 diverse member churches. The leaders reported that they "were distressed to hear Palestinians, both Christian and Muslim, relate the suffering and fear experienced daily by large numbers of their people." The church leaders "saw and heard evidence of systematic harassment, physical and psychological oppression, widespread unemployment, poverty, and economic deprivation, resulting directly or indirectly from Israeli military occupation of the West Bank."

Christians, more than any other people, are obligated to disregard power and convention and seek the truth. Without truth, there can be no justice or mercy. It's high time Christians return to the Biblical truth that no group can be called "God's chosen people" unless they practice the obedience of the father of faith, Abraham.

The term "Christian Zionism" is a lie. It is Zionist. There's nothing Christian about it.

You're picked the wrong team there, Sparky.  I simply wouldn't want to be you in the Coming Days.

You still have time, but, uhm - tick tock, pal.

xx oo

It is courageous statements such as these that will eventually force the truth on the motives, hypocrisy and murder that those who have taken our country away from the true purposes of the American people are committing against this nation. And those who know the truth and then take action will demand a different government.

AE911Truth has gotten a lot of traction with the Building 7 stuff. Frankly, it's depressing that basic physics [and the size and strength of the core columns] isn't so basic as to the towers, but it takes a special kind of remedial to believe Building 7, which absolutely did have more structural damage than many "truthers" will admit, came down like that because of office fires.

The hive mind, the media... well, you know, man - it's a form of hypnosis.

Anyway, I'm just some slob but I do love reading comments on messages boards/sites in the dark corners of the intertubes and there's a definite shift in the past few years.  Although I don't think anything will come of it to 9/11 myself.

I think it's more about making the hypnosis harder and making future ffs harder to pull off.

better to light a candle and all...

Well, the news is pretty much on repeat, it gets boring. ISIS was going to take over Baghdad, but we are still waiting. Russia was going to invade Ukraine, and we are waiting. Then ebola is going to become a pandemic, but meanwhile it's not. Financial appocalypse: not happening. Face it: it sounds like there is news, but there is no news.

People might watch if news reporters actually did their jobs as reporters and sought the truth by asking the hard questions. I have been appalled at even Fox News - which while not the typical liberal newsfeed - does nothing but serve as a chance for their guests to bash liberals without anything substantive to back up their opinions. Shockingly, I am flipping to Al Jazeera News - where stories get more complete coverage!

Food, food, food, food.

Heat.

How many wars the United States will still forgetting about the food?

Invaded Korea and Vietnam, what they did? Bombed food courts of opponents, brought food from home.

The Roman and before them, the Greek army, so they killed the deposed armadua and turned farmers, who read a little more about history knows.

Let's be realistic, imagine a Russian base in Cuba, a base intelligence needs at least four battalions (2,000 men) armed a few more 500 operators, some 1,000 (if good) technical support.

Even with all the whores there, feed this bunch of people (I'm not speaking families) bringing food from Russia, is very expensive, not worth it.

Cuba evil and nastily feed its population, imagine if you had to feed approximately 10,000 more people!

People who do nothing but monitor radio waves!

Cost, cost and cost.

Does any American citizen thought to take the number of soldiers in the smaller base - among the 170 known - around the world and make a simple account of how much it costs?

Swear to you that would be horrified.

It's a lot of money thrown out, that money could have been spent indoors.

Brazil is as "troop UN peacekeeping" in Haiti, concerned citizens want the guys back already spent money on this nonsense. Brazil has been the Suez Canal, nowadays there is a ship in the Mediterranean.

Do not understand the reason.

Maybe if enchêssemos Fox (currently ship Airfield São Paulo) of food and medicine and he was sent to Gaza to help, everyone agreed.

Brazil does not want war but will not flee to fight when needed.

Provided it is within our territory.

hehe.

Very good way of poking the US in the eye, let them have kittens for 24 hours and then running away.

Agree that it costa an absolute fortune to keep troops overseas, especially when they are fed and water to the extent that US troops are.

The big news is former Congressman Ron Paul says the US knows more than it is telling about the Malaysian air crash.

This is a former United States Congressman saying his government could be lying about one of the most important world-turning events in the past decade.

It is one thing when a country shoots down another country’s drone or fighter plane that crosses its border illegally; it is quite a different story for a nation to shoot down a loaded passenger airliner and blame it on another nation. We are entering dangerous new territory...

"The US government has grown strangely quiet on the accusation that it was Russia or her allies that brought down the Malaysian airliner with a Buk anti-aircraft missile," Paul said on his news website on Thursday.

Ron Paul: US 'likely hiding truth' on downed Malaysian Flight MH17

Ron Paul is right. The story of MH17 has taken some strange twists in the recent week or so...

The strongest evidence produced so far are the visible round bullet holes in sections of the cockpit fuselage which - according to a German ex-pilot & aviation expert - were probably made by Ukraine's SU-25 fighter jets which are fitted with a 30mm cannon. The holes exactly match. He is quite clear they could not have been made by missile fragments (A-2-A or G-2-A). They are visibly too round for that and some are entry holes, others are exit holes, indicating it was attacked from two sides. A missile cannot do that.

Then there were the two eye witness interviews published by the BBC on video where the witnesses were quite clear that they heard loud bangs in the sky at the time of the downing. They also allege without hesitation that they saw two military jets in the sky at the time, trailing MH17. The BBC pulled the videos, claiming they were not up to their usual standard of news. Yeah right.

Then we have the MH17 black boxes sent to Farnborough/UK for analysis. Nothing has been heard of them since. The voice recordings could have been released within 24-48 hours.

Further evidence is that the Kiev ATC ordered MH17 to reduce altitude to 30,000ft prior to the incident. This will have been to ensure it was within range of the two SU-25's because they have an operational ceiling of 10,000m (33,000ft), not the 23,000ft asserted by some people posting on ZH and elsewhere (paid .gov disinformation trolls?).

Joining up the dots, it is virtually certain that MH17 was attacked by the Ukraine air force with 30mm cannon and an air-to-air missile (before or after being attacked with cannon fire).

YET, none of these revelations have been touched on by MSM. A conspiracy of silence is in place. If MH17 ever gets mentioned nowadays, these revelations are completely ignored and all comment is based upon the circumstances that existed before the revelations were made public.

The USG, UKG, MSM and hoards of expert "talking heads" wheeled on to TV News shows are collectively guilty of a massive cover up of mass murder of 298 innocent people.

"The Islamic State (IS) is not an independent political entity. It is a construct of US intelligence." To not know your enemy is to lose the battle...

“The conflict is casually described as ‘sectarian warfare’ between Radical Sunni and Shia without addressing ‘who is behind the various factions.’  What is at stake is a carefully staged US military-intelligence agenda.” – Prof. Michel Chossudovsky

The Engineered Destruction and Political Fragmentation of Iraq. Towards the Creation of a US Sponsored Islamist Caliphate

The Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham: An instrument of the Western Military Alliance by Prof Michel Chossudovsky | Global Research, August 09, 2014

First published by GR on June 14, 2014.

Update, August 9, 2014

Summary: President Barack Obama has initiated a series of US bombing raids in Iraq allegedly directed towards the rebel army of the Islamic State (IS).

The Islamic State terrorists are portrayed as an enemy of America and the Western world. Amply documented, the Islamic State is a creation of Western intelligence, supported by the CIA and Israel’s Mossad and financed by Saudi Arabia and Qatar.

We are dealing with a diabolical military agenda whereby the United States is targeting a rebel army which is directly funded by the US and its allies. The incursion into Iraq of the Islamic State rebels in late June was part of a carefully planned intelligence operation.

The rebels of the Islamic state, formerly known as the ISIS, were covertly supported by US-NATO-Israel to wage a terrorist insurgency against the Syrian government of Bashar Al Assad.  The atrocities committed in Iraq are similar to those committed in Syria. The sponsors of IS including Barack Obama have blood on their hands.

The killings of innocent civilians by the Islamic state terrorists create a pretext and the justification for US military intervention on humanitarian grounds. Lest we forget, the rebels who committed these atrocities and who are a target of US military action are supported by the United States.

The bombing raids ordered by Obama are not intended to eliminate the terrorists. Quite the opposite, the US is targeting the civilian population as well as the Iraqi resistance movement.

The endgame is to destabilize Iraq as a nation state and trigger its partition into three separate entities.

time to pull out an old aurora ex machina post:

In America, steer the fuck away from ultra-Religious groups / Rapture types (personal faith is fine: large mega-Churches? WarZone soon), grab family and look at your geography. Urban area outside growth / protected zones? Move. Suburbia? Move. Area where water tables are low / fracked / polluted? Move. Area where you're completely dependent on gasoline? Move. Area where mercury / heavy metals are abundant in the water table? Move. (If you need help on where to find this data, I can provide)

Now, I'm not preaching Armageddon here. This all happens in slow time, especially in Ameria - life gets slowly shittier, more expensive, more degrading, more annoying, more polluted and so on. You'll read about far away countries and massacres and still have shitty chocolate. You really don't need money: you need a plan, friends / family and a realistic appraisal of your means. Homo Sapiens were nomads for thousands of years, you don't need the money, you needknowledge. Find that, and you're golden. If you can't repair your quad bike, you can't afford the cut, so quietly go find a nice place to live, out in the wilds. (Cut is roughly ~ $250k single salary @ age 34 to be considered "useful to save" these days).

But yeah: best projections are about 2-3 billion dying if you don't start throwing nukes. Worst projections get to the magic 500 number. I've known this for about 15 years now. None of you muppets listen: and Alex Jones is not your friend.

This increasing descent of Iraq into dystopia ever since the 2003 GWB Crusade began reminds me of a dictum : Self fulfilling prophecy.

Just to contextualize : After the NWO began, Wolfowitz prophesied; as did Huntington in his opus Clash of Civilizations; that America's future enemies would not be Nation States but "Rogue States" or "non legal" entities.

So... First they had created Talibanism to fight Soviet incursion into Afghan, then they encouraged Wahhabism--or Salafism (think Al Qaeda ideology)-- to fight the Iraq Iran war with Saddam as ally, as paid spear carrier for the Sunnis againt "evil" shiite Ayatollah Iran. Then they invaded Iraq to take out Saddam, now declared renegade and "terrorist", then they set up a Shiite Maliki led puppet government in Iraq, then they repeated in Libya the Iraq/Saddam caper with Q-daffy's evisceration, and finally, they have succeeded in destroying Syria by trying to take out Assad.

How can the leading lights of Pax Americana all through these years of fake NATION STATE  building which has been proven as more nation-state destruction as summarised above, now lament about a "terrorist" enclave in Gaza and a jihadist enclave in Syria and Iraq? Aka, perfect examples of those very ROGUE states that Wolfowitz said would be the enemy due to forces beyond America's control.

When you create that very enemy, by your very own acts over thirty years, that is called acting out, in perverted logic, a self fulfilling prophecy.

Well played neo-con America !

The real reason is elsewhere for this nation destruction : OIL !

That's why the Kurdish enclave is so vital to US interests.

PS : To further recontextualize over a longer period; the warmongering that Pax Americana unleashed on three small South East Asian countries; Nam, Cambodia and Laos; to further the compassionate ideology of Uncle Sam, then later re-enacted in Operation Condor Latin America, now finds is logical sequel in Near Asia before being disseminated into Far Asia--think South China Sea.

Clash of Civilization is some self fulfilling credo !

Ngo Dinh Diem-ish US-arranged deposal or assassination of Maliki in 3...2...1... AND/OR, as mentioned by the dear general in the video, a sign of impending full-scale civil war within Iraq. Mission Accomplished (tm).:

don't mistake my comment for promoting genocide ...but.....

what's stopping the american, european governments from cutting a deal with russia and china to kill EVERYONE in the middle east and take all their oil.

between syria, iraq , saudi arabia, and ALL the gulf states but NOT yemen lebanon and jordan (they have not very much oil) --------------there's 100 million people.

what's to stop the u.s. russia, all of europe and china ( and india why not) from agreeing to kill everyone and just split their oil entirely?

100 million fewer people to buy the cheap oil. 100 million fewer people to slow down the oil in wars.

i think maybe one day the superpowers will commit a genocide for oil that will put world war 2 to shame. that's how scary this is.
