De-escalation Delayed: NATO Chief Warns Again "High Probability" Of Russian Intervention In Ukraine

Tyler Durden's picture

Deja vu all over again. Just as he stole the jam from the market's donut last week, NATO Chief Rasmussen has done it again:

  • NATO'S RASMUSSEN SEES "HIGH PROBABILITY" THAT RUSSIA COULD INTERVENE MILITARILY IN EASTERN UKRAINE

He also adds he sees no sign of troop withdrawal. So, despite the market's confidence that it's fixed and Putin has folded, it seems NATO is not so sure. Un-De-Escalation begins.

Rasmussen added "We see a military build-up that could be used to conduct illegal military operations in Ukraine."

Furthermore Reuters reports the leader of East Ukraine's rebels Zakharchenko is said to be "mulling a counter-attack on government forces in 2-3 days"

This counter-offensive, of course, has been spun as Russia-supported by NATO and thus excuse for NATO involvement - which, as a reminder, includes Canada's commitment to provide military support to Ukraine.

Last week Rasmussen popped the bubble...

This is the exact opposite news that the market apparently ripped higher on from Friday's lows...

Following is Bloomberg's compilation of actions by Ukraine, Russia, U.S., EU, including effects on global markets.

POLITICS:
* Kremlin attempts to pacify Armenia-Azebaijan conflict as Ukraine war continues
* Ukraine says stopped Russia convey trying to enter Ukraine under guise of humanitarian mission
* EU opposes any Ukrainian cutoff of Russian gas, official says
* Assessing impact of Russian sanctions on agribusinesses

WHAT TO WATCH:
* Ukraine urges mass evacuation as army surrounds strongholds, declining cease-fire proposed by separatists
* Ukrainian humanitarian situation can’t wait; Russian President Putin to meet with Crimean Parliament in Aug. 14: spokesman Peskov
* Russian 2Q GDP growth 0.8% vs est. 0.7%
* Russian PM Medvedev asks govt to watch food prices, mortgage rates

We have spoken before of Albert Pike and his chillingly accurate predictions of the two World Wars.  For WWIII, he predicts that Zionists (Israel) and Islam will annihilate each other along with most everybody else.  The lucies are still in charge, as he goes on to say about WWIII:  …We shall unleash the Nihilists and the atheists, and we shall provoke a formidable social cataclysm which in all its horror will show clearly to the nations the effect of absolute atheism, origin of savagery and of the most bloody turmoil. Then everywhere, the citizens, obliged to defend themselves against the world minority of revolutionaries, will exterminate those destroyers of civilization, and the multitude, disillusioned with Christianity, whose deistic spirits will from that moment be without compass or direction, anxious for an ideal, but without knowing where to render its adoration, will receive the true light through the universal manifestation of the pure doctrine of Lucifer, brought finally out in the public view. This manifestation will result from the general reactionary movement which will follow the destruction of Christianity and atheism, both conquered and exterminated at the same time."

I like the comment above, "EU opposes any Ukrainian cutoff of Russian gas, official says". Of course they do, why do you think the Ukraine is using that as a trump card? They are telling NATO get your sorry ass in here and help up before Putin solves the problem permanently.

Perhaps Mr Rasmussen can explain to us the difference between NATO's "legal military action" in Lybia's civil war vs. Russia's "illegal military action" in Ukraine's civil war and exactly what the definition of "legal military action" is anyway ?

Rasmussen blows with the wind (or NSA got his bells in a sling) - I don't believe anything he says

"The former Prime Minister of Denmark, Anders Fogh Rasmussen, wrote the book From Social State to Minimal State in 1993, in which he advocated an extensive reform of the Danish welfare system along classical liberal lines. In particular, he favors lower taxes and less government interference in corporate and individual matters.

However, since then, Rasmussen has repudiated many of the views expressed in the book, moving towards the centre-right and adopting environmentalism.

He'd explain that anything we do is legal and anyone's response is illegal.

If he was honest.

But that won't happen.

Strangely enough, the term "Legal" which, in itself is a search for precision in matters of judgement of conduct, has achieved a very high level of fungibility with this administration for excusing the exercise of raw power.

Legality has been pushed aside and ignored because the Congress and Courts will not exercise their power to hold this (and prior) administration accountable for it's actions.

The Executive branch of govt. has a blank check which is indistinguishable from a dictatorship.

Welcome to the declining empire phase of America.

it's not "Luciferian" - that is idiotic nonsense meant to distract you from the quite temporal motives.  Every person I see mentioning "Luciferian" never has anything but smoke and mirrors to offer, no evidence, no proof, just nonsense - like "illuminati" and "annunaki"

In fact the Luciferian thing is often blended with the other nonsense.

And by the way, the idea it's all Zionism is nonsense too - there is more than one brand of militarism on the planet.

I really don't mean to attack you, I know you feel sure, and that I don't get it, but just consider whether or not the greatest trick of all is to get you to think satan/lucifer is anything more than a symbol, or that the people who rule the world, the billionaires and bankers, believe in any of that nonsense.

They've got you chasing ghosts, man.

Putin will never invade Ukraine as it would legitimize the anti-Putin crowd in the West. There is nothing in Ukraine that Putin needs, and he can keep the rebels going for years if he wants to - against a politically and economically weak Ukraine. Under such conditions, Ukraine will be nothing but a drain on the EU.

Definition of Ukraine - a hole, surrounded by super powers, into which EU money is poured.

Putin has plenty of options. Ukraine on the other hand needs to defeat the insurgents in the next 60 days. Once winter sets in Putin can pull the strings on Europe with natural gas delivery. (Or, more specifically no gas delivery)Even if it appears Ukraine has won by taking the large cities insurgents can conduct a hit and run operation while based just across the border in Russia.

Agreed. The rebels from the beginning said that they could not possibly win a conventional war against a full army supported by USA and Europe. So they intend to cause as much damage as possible to the Ukie forces and then go into guerilla mode and continuosly drain the resources of Kiev and the EU - that could last for decades if they chose to, esp if Russia supports them from the sidelines.  Go rebels!

The problem with that is, that it turns the industrial East Ukraine into rubble - which is the same in all territories "liberated" by the US or its lackeys at NATO.

At some point, a real force needs to take over Kiev itself and depose the US/Zio-Junta.

Not even 1% has a clue and most never will, because the ugly truth is that the majority is too stupid to understand even when spelled out.

That's why they have to be ruled by deception and propaganda, the masses are too stupid and too selfish for any form of self determination or real democracy. That's another sad and ugly truth.

Edward Bernays and the Art of Public Manipulation-VIDEO

Go out in the street and talk to 30 random people about any important subject for 10 minutes and you will understand why real democracy would be even worse..

This is a video on the psychology of propaganda. Prof. Kroth reviews five major techniques for how mass media manipulates and twists the view people have of their world.

Don't think you or anybody else can change anything, this is impossible, for the simple reason mentioned above: the average IQ is way too low and people are too narcistic to really care for the common good.

I reoeat... Russia first needs to turn up the PR at the UN and MSM that the humanitarian crisis is so bad, that UN Blue Helmets must go in.

That will give them a pretext and legitimacy for the next move: Send in their own Blue Helmets, which also ends up shaming the UN for its impotence.

Russia then states that their peacekeeping troops will leave when the UN does its job. Which is good for posturing and PR. But in reality, this gives them the opportunity to build a strong underground resistance in Kiev itself, which will rise up and depose the Junta.

Nothing like serving up a good dose of Deception to the US itself. While continuing the global de-Dollarization.

Assault on Donetsk risks war with Russia

By Niles Williamson
11 August 2014

Ukrainian armed forces have encircled the east Ukrainian city of Donetsk in preparation for a bloody assault on the city’s population. Kiev is slowly tightening the noose around the pro-Russian separatist stronghold, threatening the lives of hundreds of thousands of people in a city that claimed nearly one million inhabitants prior to the US- and German-backed onslaught.

The Obama administration’s policy of escalating pressure on the Russian regime by backing the Kiev regime’s indiscriminate murder of civilians and destruction of infrastructure in east Ukraine is driving the situation towards war between nuclear-armed powers.

Kiev rejected calls for a ceasefire, instead demanding a complete surrender from the pro-Russian separatists in Donetsk and in the areas throughout eastern Ukraine which remain under rebel control.

In response to the ongoing US-backed military campaign, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov called for a ceasefire in east Ukraine and the rapid deployment of humanitarian aid supplies to stem the crisis

EVERY conflict begins and ends with a PR campaign. So far, the US Neo/Zio-cons are driving the public/MSM case against Russia.

Russia must turn the debate into their favor - at least in Europe.

In the meantime, the Empire keeps building it's forces and pressure on the Rebels, while it's PR machine is keeping Russian military sidelined: All show, no action.

If E.Ukraine falls, Putin's standing will fall domestically. That's why he needs a hybrid solution. And that's why I proposed the Russian Blue Helmet solution above.

I would hardly call "providing helmets" a military commitment by Canada.

Obviously calling what's coming up a "counter offensive" is even more ridiculous. Not even the separatists are calling it that.

Lot of space out there...as the "hourglass turns" the entire affair so far seems more a matter of border issues and creating a working economy.....for Ukraine ideally.

Russia should just blitzkrieg through Ukraine in 24 hours, and take ownership of the whole country. Send the neocons and Israeli handlers home then let NATO figure out how to send their goyim sons and daughters in to "liberate" Ukraine and die for the cause. Nobody but a mercenary wants a piece of this militarily, and if the body bags start to come home even the merc's won't find it cost effective. Russian soldiers will do what they have to, they know they are defending the fatherland. Most Ukrainian population won't be too upset, things there will only get better if Russia takes over. And after Ukraine keep crushing the dollar and bankrupt America back into the stone age, let them focus and managing bread lines rather than military bases.

More from Lavrov

SOCHI, August 11 (RIA Novosti) – The Kiev government’s military operation in eastern Ukraine seems to be aimed at “razing the southeast to the ground” and forcing the Russian-speaking population to flee, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Monday.

“So far, it seems that the purpose of the so-called anti-terrorist operation is to raze the southeast [of Ukraine] to the ground and make all Russians leave it. Apparently, with a purpose to later populate it with those who have a different view of our history, culture, friendship and centuries-long ties between our peoples,” Lavrov told reporters during his visit to Sochi.
