Ukraine Says 45,000 Russian Troops On Border With Tanks, Missiles, Warplanes And Attack Helicopters

Tyler Durden's picture

Another day, another round of the usual warmongering soundbites, because someone clearly is on a mission to escalate the cross border hostilities into all out war. From Reuters:

  • UKRAINE MILITARY SPOKESMAN LYSENKO SAYS RUSSIA HAS 45,000 TROOPS ON ITS BORDER WITH UKRAINE WITH TANKS, MISSILE SYSTEMS, WARPLANES AND ATTACK HELICOPTERS

From Reuters:

Russia has massed 45,000 troops on its border with Ukraine backed by an array of heavy equipment including tanks, missile systems, warplanes and attack helicopters, Ukrainian military spokesman Andriy Lysenko said on Monday.

"As of 11 o'clock today, about 45,000 troops of the armed forces and internal forces of the Russian Federation are concentrated in border areas," Lysenko told a briefing.

He said they were supported by 160 tanks, 1,360 armoured vehicles, 390 artillery systems, up to 150 Grad missile launchers, 192 fighter aircraft and 137 attack helicopters.

Apparently Lyesnko does not know how to read an upside profit surprise warning from Raytheon, Lockheed and Boeing.

Meanwhile:

  • RUSSIA'S PUTIN TELLS EU'S BARROSO BY TELEPHONE THAT RUSSIA IS COORDINATING WITH INTERNATIONAL RED CROSS ON SENDING HUMANITARIAN AID TO UKRAINE - KREMLIN

It gets better, from Bloomberg:

  • BARROSO WARNS PUTIN AGAINST UNILATERAL MILITARY ACTIONS

Or else the prices of Russian fruits and vegetables will go up as European gas prices explode?

And concluding the comedy, from Interfax:

  • LAVROV SAYS ALL DETAILS OF HUMANITARIAN MISSION AGREED WITH UKRAINE GOVT, EXPRESSES HOPE MISSION WILL TAKE PLACE SOON
RUSSIA HOPES THAT HUMANITARIAN ACTION FOR DONBAS WILL NOT BE OBSTRUCTED BY PARTNERS - LAVROV
  • LAVROV: IF MEDIA REPORTS, SAYING THAT BRITISH, FRENCH, GERMANY LEADERS AGREED NO NEED FOR HUMANITARIAN AID EXISTS IN UKRAINE, ARE TRUE, THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS CYNICISM MANIFESTATION
  • INTRODUCTION OF FOOD IMPORT RESTRICTIONS CONDITIONED, AMONG OTHER THINGS, WITH SANCTIONS AGAINST RUSSIAN AGRICULTURAL BANK, WHICH COMPLICATES FINANCING AGRICULTURE PRODUCERS - LAVROV
  • IT IS HARD TO CALL GOOD PARTNERS THE COUNTRIES UNITING AGAINST RUSSIA - LAVROV
  • LAVROV: ONE MAY GET THE IMPRESSION THAT THE COUNTERTERRORISM OPERATION IN UKRAINE AIMS TO WIPE OFF SOUTHEASTERN UKRAINE FROM THE FACE OF THE EARTH AND TO MAKE ALL RUSSIANS GO

Then again, judging by today's latest plunge in the VIX, it is quite clear that the most recent warning by the TBAC against low vol and complacent markets, almost had an impact.

But US & EU have Weak Banks & Weak Economies and NO War Chests.

USA can't manage Federal Budgets, Federal Contracts, Expansion of Federal Spending & Inflation of Federal Contracts. $17.6 Trillion in Federal Debt Indicates we can't go to Ukraine or Iraq/Syria to fight a World War.

Reality Bites. Epic Fail.

Want to fix something, Keep Politicians & Lobbyist away from it. $17.6 Trillion seems proof of US Corruption.

a bit superficial. in Iraq, there is some humanitarian relief going on for dislocated populations fleeing the Islamic State forces. then they do like to pick on "undesirables". Next to it, the bombings

meanwhile, what Putin is doing was formerly known as "rattling the saber". not a friendly gesture, though one that might help or not help, depending from what Russia does next

and that's the point: did Putin steer himself into a position where he has to keep up appearances? then the claim of "ethnic cleansing" is more difficult to make, in Eastern Ukraine (at least compared with Ex-Yugoslavia). how the heck is that supposed to happen, there? by language? by religion?

the whole thing is soon ripe for a conference on the resolution of this mess, imho. btw note where the citizens of the embattled cities are fleeing to

Thats an 1hr long.  Let me give Coles Notes to people.

When you hear a politician say something, imagine he said the opposite, then weigh the likelihood of the truth of the two statements.  You will instantly parse the lies.

When you watch a commercial, they are trying to instill an emotion in you (envy, greed, lust...) and this product can provide said emotion. Or convince you a product conveys social status (see iPad, iPhone, iEtc)

US Military is held back by it's own Group Think.

We took Afghanistan quickly with low troop levels. Then promptly forgot the advantages of this and choose to go into wars knowing we might fight guerrillas at any point.

We build up troops & Equipment with Expensive Logistics Tails and maintenance hubs for chains of camps or bases. Effectively we blow the whole DOD budget on wars heavily laden with huge corporate expenses.

Putin is not going to have a Capitalist War like the USA. He is going to strategize for longevity & sustainability.

US Corporate Logistics for Future Wars Needs to be seriously cut back in view of $17.6 Trillion of Public debt.

I've been taking the position that US & EU Banks & Economies are weak, there is no War Chest, and that we can't afford a major war. So there are possibilities:

A) Proxy Wars
B) Covert Actions, but not sure these resolve a thing
C) Small Scale Wars, more like max 50K on ground with one navy ship & Air Forces of maybe 50 Air Ships, Satellite Intel, NSA Spying, Human Intelligence
D) Robot Wars, Satellite Wars, Drone Wars
E) Thermonuclear War

Rumor has it that more underground bunkers have to be outfitted before we can move to Nuclear War, say 2-10 years more.

Their red line is real, and fixed . They don't want Ukraine, why would they ?

They will disable the Kiev junta without boots on the ground, as a last resort.

Lets not forget that there are NATO troops stationed in Kharkov handing out "non-lethal" equipment.

It is confirmed that there are Nato troops on the ground in Kharkov to assist in the unloading of the cargoes and the training involved with the new equipment and to guard the area in aerodrome proper. Note. To train Uke soldiers in the sophisticated night vision and other electronic equipment will take a month or more of intensive work. Ukeland does not have a month nor does Nato. Who is going to use this equipment? It is also confirmed that there is an ever increasing and not small cadre of American troops in Kiev assisting the Ukeland government in their prosecution of the war under the nominal auspices of NATO.

That puts NATO troops a paltry 24 miles from the Russian border. What could possible go wrong?

the ultimate hubris is when one's dumbass projects upon an opponent the same dumbass. putin is not stupid. he has exihibited great intelligence, savvy and cunning to thwart the western(usa) powers. chess to checkers is the best analogy once again. putin is not as stupid as the usa. he will not invade ukraine because he knows that is precisely what the usa wants and needs to make their next move. the king is trapped by a pawn. putin must find all this amusing except that people(russians especially) are being killed for empire.

OK, but he can't lose the short-term struggle in hopes of winning in the long-term.  If he fails to take steps to smash the Ukie army in the east now, Donestsk and Lugansk could go down.  If that happens, there will be no long-term for VVP.  No amount of marvellous chess moves and elegant strategems will matter.  The moment the pro-Russian resistance collapses, NATO will swarm over Ukraine and it will be lost -- and the next step will be Orange Revolution in Red Square.

Stealing once was harmful being a limited commodity, now with printing there is no reason to stop the theft, you just print more.
This is why the world is as it is, no one in power is suffering loss.
They are gaining faster then ever, more channels of theft.

Putin should declare a no fly zone over novorussia and drop medical supplies and food and repeatedly urge the red cross and HRW and others to record what Kiev is doing.

By the way, what the fuck is the American national security interest in Ukraine, exactly?  People have stopped asking what gives the US the right and privilege to interfere anywhere in the world.

It's not like the CIA is working for the American people or anything.  They've been an above the law, quite profitable criminal enterprise for decades, it seems.   The iron fist, the dagger, and the slow poison of the powers behind the throne of the US Presidency... a confederacy of murderers and thieves.

People are talking about german divisions rolling into Ukr territory when the modernised Bundeswehr is comprised of two mechanised divisions with armor component. On paper.

Same goes for the Poles, they could field(with difficulties) two mechanised divisions, incl only one battalion of Leopards 2a4.The rest of tank park is T-72/T-80rebuilt(Twardy).

Also, the whole Bundeswehr has (on paper) three artillery battalions. Its actually much less in fire volume than Poles have, as they still have three soviet-style  arty regiments, plus lots of organic battalions.

Father Guderian would roll in its grave.

Crying Bear, Bear is getting tiresome. Crying to the IMF and EU for money like a destitute welfare recipient is tiresome. Crying for NATO support is worrisome. This begs the question, why? I think Hunter Biden can answer that. This all begs the question if Quebec, Canada can ask and receive as many referendums on self determination and secession as they want, why not the ethnic Russian Ukrainians have a referendum on secession from the Ukraine? Again, I think Hunter Biden can answer to that. Secession by Scotland is possible, nobody in England is calling the Scots terrorists are they? Why would the Ukrainian government label their own ethnic Russian citizens terrorists? Lastly, I think Hunter Biden can answer that.

That would be this Hunter Biden, now gearing up to bri..influence Congress

An obscure private Ukrainian natural gas company has been hiring friends and family of Secretary of State John Kerry and Vice President Joe Biden, while seeking to influence CongressWhen Vice President Joe Biden’s son, R. Hunter Biden, joined the board of a private Ukrainian oil and natural gas company this spring, he explained his new job as a legal one, disconnected from any effort to influence the Obama Administration. In a press release, the younger Biden boasted of his abilities on issues like improving corporate transparency.

But the company, Burisma Holdings, did not disclose at the time the scope of their plans for influencing the U.S. government. Recently released documents show that Biden’s hiring coincided with the launch of a new effort to lobby members of Congress about the role of the company in Ukraine and the country’s quest for energy independence.

Bombing of the chemical plant Gorlovka - Ukraine, Russia and Belarus in danger

Today we sum Aug. 10, 2014.

My name is Pavel Brykov I'm the press officer of the consortium "Stirol" (Gorlovka, Donetsk region.'s Largest chemical Ukrainian consortium).

I would like to make a statement of extreme emergency. Throughout the past three weeks the city of Gorlovka general and the territory of the largest chemical factory "Stirol" in particular, suffer bombings, strikes and artillery fire with the Ukrainian military use multiple rocket launchers "Grad" and even "URAGAN." Including 5 August last, in a targeted manner, in addition to strikes GRAD, 5 strikes URAGAN multiple rocket launchers were carried out on the plant. it is the most powerful weapon of mass destruction into service in the Ukrainian army.

The bombing of the city and the chemical plant are ongoing.

I officially declare:

Given the irresponsible actions of the Ukrainian army, the people of Ukraine, Russia and Belarus suffer daily mortal of an ecological disaster, which it is impossible to predict the consequences and risk assess the extent of damage.

An accident "Stirol" will result in the release of a hazardous chemical that is mono-nitre-chlorbenzène extremely harmful. The lethal radius, given the wind direction, river basins and marine areas is 300 km minimum. I do not understand why this fact is ignored by all the Ukrainian media. "

I wonder what Putin is playing at here...so far the only confirmation of any aid convoy from Russia to the Ukraine has come only from Moscow. I have found nothing to suggest that Kiev is going to allow, or is even considering the idea, in fact they just turned one aid convoy aside a few days ago. Kiev also refused a cease fire offer from the PRD to allow aid to come into the area, they are gearing up for a major assault and have advised residents to evacuate the city.

there is nothing to indicate Kiev is going to cooperate with any aid mission from Russia so I wonder why Lavrov is announcing it as a done deal? it just seems strange to me...

my guess is it's one of those "it's either this or war" type of deals, if Kiev does not allow the convoy through the next thing Moscow sends over the border will be of a lethal and decidedly non humanitarian nature.

you've got to wonder if the algos just made this shit up just to keep the markets from tanking on bad geopolitical news on a monday.

Here we go

MOSCOW, August 11 (RIA Novosti) – Russia and the International Committee of the Red Cross are sending a convoy with humanitarian cargo to eastern Ukraine, the Kremlin press service said Monday.

Russian President Vladimir Putin told European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso in a phone conversation that “the Russian side, in cooperation with representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross, is sending a humanitarian convoy to Ukraine.”

At the UN Security Council last Tuesday, Russia proposed to deploy an international humanitarian mission with Russian humanitarian aid under the auspices of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Ukraine’s troubled eastern regions.

A number of Western countries, such as the United States, Britain and Germany argued that Russian humanitarian aid should only be delivered to Ukraine after Moscow secured Kiev’s consent, otherwise it would be «unjustified and illegal."

Earlier on Monday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov urged the West not to hamper the delivery of the humanitarian aid and sharply criticized recent statements by officials in London, Washington and Berlin that the population in eastern Ukraine does not require humanitarian assistance, despite the worsening situation in the regions caught in armed clashes between Kiev-led forces and independence supporters.

So the nice people from the Red Cross who everybody in the world loves is going into eastern Ukraine to help all the civilians that Keiv has bombed. The Russians will just be going along to escort them in case any nasty people should attack the Red Cross while they are helping. Who can argue with that?

After Donetsk

The eventual destruction of Donetsk by Kiev only begs the the larger question: when Donetsk is levelled and its population are either dead or emigres, does the Chocolate Lickspittle order the retaking of Crimea?

This is what the heavy fighting now is about.

Russia, which had no official relation with Eastern Ukraine but officially has annexed Crimea and will answer Kiev missile for missile if Crimea is attacked.

Whether or not Putin decides to take part of the Russian hail of missiles away from the Ukrainian Army near the shore of the Black Sea and put it down in central Ukraine remains to be seen.

As does NATO's response to the fighting between the two nations.
